If you love Kong Bak Pau.. (Braised Pork Bun) then WESTLAKE should be a farmiliar name to you. Being the winner of the excellent food award, westlake sends their braised pork bun everywhere. Many might have tasted their yummy buns but had never seen or eaten in the restaurant before.
WESTLAKE, a very old yet very good restaurant serves fabulously YUMMY traditional chinese food in every style. It is situated at the OLD HDB houses at queen's street in between farrer road and bukit timah road. Humble looking yet thriving with customers. I especially loved the outdoor sits as during a cool day, you could really enjoy the nice breeze, have your chinese tea and delectable crabs as well as the wonderful attention of the many waiters and waitresses... I could say their service is fast and good. For traditional chinese restuarants, i always face the problem of catching the attention of the waitresses and they usually come with an attitude. But here at WESTLAKE.. it seemed so different.
I also love to order the braised pork bun and usually have to DA BAO some back home. The soft moist buns filled with tender dark squares of glistening plush belly meat in tasty dark sauce is simply too irrisistable. I love how juicy it was when i bite into it while the meat is thinly slices and it simply melts in your mouth. These buns are not small... They are actually pretty huge when compared to other pork buns.
If you like chinese food, this is really a place to go. I would suggest go ALFRESCO if you can. There are also many other dishes like dim sum, crabs, hot and sour sichuan soup which are all yummy to choose from.
Food so good... its hard not to recommend my friends there......
If you like fishing, there are just a few places to go to in singapore. One of these places will be West Lake Fishing Village. There are plenty to do there instead of just fishing for fishes, you can also fish for prawn and there is arcade and snooker or pool for the entertainment of the entire family.
They are open almost 24 hours but you can either fish for a 4 to 6 hour time slot or get the 12 hour slots.... I tried fishing there once for the overnight fishing. It is an interesting place especially during weekends. You can see anglers using all sorts of tactics and baits just to capture those poor fishes.
You must note the time when they release the fishes from the cages as these fishes come hungry.... Everybody is busy and it is an excellent place to meet fellow anglers and exchange experiences and tactics.
Most fishes there are KIM BAK LOR... but there are some other species but very sparse.. I really nice place to hang out if you would just wanna relax and try something different other then cheonging every night.
They sell almost everything at the small shop there.. baits, accessories and rental of rods......
Challenger is a popular chain with a few stores around Singapore. They sell computers, computer peripherals, mobile phones, televisions, etc.
Dropped by today to get a webcam for my sister. They have quite a selection there from those "branded" ones to the lesser known ones. Needless to say there's a range of prices to suit your budget.
I found what I needed then proceeded to look for Data transfer cables... I went over and saw a whole rack of it... I didn't see the kind that I needed and asked the salesperson about it. He then pointed to the same rack I had just walked from. He made no move to walk over and show me which one.
Thinking that I might have remembered wrongly, i just took one that said data transfer... and consulted him again (I walked over to where he was) then he said... 'ya ya this is the one." I explained my purpose to him again and he just nodded his head. Then I explained how I used to see that there was a box thingy... then he gave a puzzled expression, walked away without saying anything and consulted a lady nearby. The lady replied loudly, "no stock no stock"
I very nearly bought the wrong thing because he refused to listen properly and had poor product knowledge.
This outlet is not as well stocked as the rest as it's much smaller... it also seemed like it had more LCD TVs then computer stuff...
Kobayashi is a small fast food outlet tucked away on the second level of Eastpoint Shopping Mall (near the lift lobby).
It serves up cheap Jap food (priced between $5-$14). They have plenty of one dish meals and some bento sets, along with ala-carte side orders. Their system is really like a fast food restaurant where you have to go to the counter, order and get your food immediately.
Food we ordered Chicken Katsudon (Fried chicken with rice and egg) Chicken Katsu Ramen (Fried chicken with noodles in soup) Beef Ramen (Beef with noodles in soup) Ice Green Tea
The Chicken Katsu was very crisp and tasty. The rice was soft and slightly sticky, as what is expected of Jap food. As for the Chicken Katsu Ramen, the noodles was fine. But the serving was small so my companion ordered a Beef Ramen after finishing his first bowl. They had more people then and the food became nasty. The ramen in the second bowl was overcooked and all stuck together... The beef was almost non-existent.
We paid about $20 and finished our food in under 20 minutes. It was ok but not really value for money. Good alternative if you're sick of Macs or BK...
I was really surprised that there is such a fabulous place in an area so ULU...... I was told by my dad that i could get a good servicing for my car at the AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY shop just opposite the OLD TAMAN JURONG SWIMMING POOL.
And so, I went. It was easy to locate as they had a big LOGO stating GOOD-YEAR TIRES outside their shop.... It is huge. As i drove in shortly after lunch hours, there's this really nice guy that came to ask me how can he help. So i told him i want to do servicing and he asked politely if he could help me get my car on the plateform... I was already impressed....... So i alighted and stood by my car when another service personnel showed me into a large aircon sitting area with a pantry and coffee machine. I was very impressed.
After making myself a coffee, i got myself sitted in front of the LCD TV to watch some news and there were various magazines of every topic available to view. I was happie as i am sure I will not be bored while waiting.
There was a very clean toilet and power plugs if you need to use your lap top to do some work. Shortly afterwards, one guy came in to advice me on the car. He told me how he would service my car and asked if i wanted to change the tires as they checked and found them quite bald. So i agreed and they cleaned the tire areas and portion of my under carriage. On top of that, they also balanced my tires and fixed them to perfection.
I was very happie with the intense effort they put into servicing my car. They also carry a wide variety of products such as tires, RIMs, high end wipers, car washing and maintenence liquids, etc etc etc....
For the value for money and good job they do to my car, plus the very nice environment to laze while waiting with plenty of space to move about and beverages to keep you busy, it is hard not to recommend other car owners to visit them......
New York New York is an interesting place.. The beautiful interior designs sets you in a gluttony mood. Though some might get a huge headache with the vast array of colours and designs, it makes me feel rather westerny. I like their furnitures. and seat designs. Though some people might need a little courage to eat in a restaurant LOUD like this, no doubt that, we do see queues all the time.
I was there for early lunch and was glad i could get in without squeezing or queuing... I was seated pretty near to the kitchen and i've got pretty good attention there. I ordered Ribs.... and it was delicious. The serving was enough for two and the sides were great.
The RIBS are honey glazed on the outside till perfectly glowy and the meat was tender and juicy. I had ribs from elsewhere before and lousy ones are usually overcooked with meat so dry and hard on the inside or looked too dead pale on the outside..
But the ribs here were perfectly beautiful on the outside and YUMMY on the inside... I could say they have one of the better RIBS in town.... I would say the price is quite reasonable as the servings were huge. Really good for huge groups to go out together but not so good for business lunches as you might have difficulty talking to each other without shouting. The lightings were too warm if not shining onto the customer's faces and it made me pretty uncomfortable. But for the DELECTABLE RIBS.... perhaps its worth the experience.
Finally I got to try the donuts at Donut Factory. Passed by the one at Raffles City so many times but the queue is longer than the MRT train. When I saw that there's a seperate queue for this outlet at Suntec, I was delighted!
There's a mini cafe within Donut Factory where you can sit and enjoy a cup of tea with your donut. They also has pretty interesting donut dishes. Can't recall the name, but there's one that is served with a scope of ice-cream (like how others do it on brownies) and one that comes like a sandwich with something in between and comes in a bento box with side salad. Didn't try these, maybe next time when I passed by it again.
And thanks to this cafe concept of theirs, they have a seperate counter for cafe or takeaway. But you can only buy max. of 2 donuts. So everyone in the queue bought 2 donuts each.
Now, the donuts, I've to say, there's really nothing that great about them. The dough taste like the one at Dippin Donut (used to be Vinco Donut). We tried the Hazelnut Milk Chocolate, Mint Dark Chocolate, Strawberry White Chocolate and the Glazed (which is reserved for my breakfast tmr).
The first we bit into was the Strawberry White Chocolate, it's too sweet for our liking. The strawberry tasted more like sugar cream and blended with the sweet white chocolate, its overpowering! Try it if you have a super sweet tooth, if not, try others. Hazelnut one was alright. The nut makes it crunchy and kind of compilment the soft dough. I like the Mint Dark Chocolate. Not too sweet and the mint taste is refreshing.
Overall, the donuts was just so-so. I guess its the variety available that attracted the long long queue. And also maybe due to the way they price the donuts. The more you buy, the cheaper you pay. So everyone also buy more. And when everyone infront of you buys more, the longer you got to wait for more to be baked. Even with the many staff, about 6 in the kitchen baking donuts, the queue was still long (but not as long as the one at Raffles City.) But if you aren't buying in boxes, join the cafe queue. It's faster.
************ Updated 19 October 2007 ************
Was at Suntec for dinner this day and passed by donut factory to check out the queue, and to our delightness, the queue was bearable. So we joined the queue and were served in less than 10mins. Great work! There were 2 staff taking turn to pack customers' orders and 1 cashier for the main donut queue. There were also 12 others working non-stop in the kitchen. Amazing team they have.
This time I get to buy all the flavors that I want to try. Yap, looking at the photos, I got almost all those that's yummilicious! The Double Chocolate is to die for! The filling tasted like Nutella and the chocolate melts in your mouth. Gives a great satisfaction when you bite into it. So relax... (yes choc helps one relaxes.)
I don't know what made me buy 4 of the Spicy Donuts, but I kinda regretted. It's nice, but not the flavor that I would like a second helping of. It's made up of nacho cheese I think. Guess I prefer sweet donuts.
Now, I know which are the flavors I'll get when I go back again. The Double Choc, Mint Dark Choc, Apple Cinnamon and Rasberry Dark Chco. And for the wide variety that I like, I'm increasing my rating from 3 stars to 5 stars. (Also cos of the many other donuts which I've tasted so far. Other than those that's yet to have arrived in SG. Psss... I heard some pretty good ones coming next year... Yeah!)
Being beautiful has never been easier with Benefit!
Chanced upon Benefit from their website and found it at CK Tangs. I just couldn't resist myself, the packaging is so cool! I told myself I just need to get them! After understanding about the various products from the lady, I bought dr.feelgood and some-kind-a-gorgeous. These two items burnt a $120 big hole in my wallet!
After using it for more than a month now, I must say, I simply love them! The powder is so light and you don't feel like wearing make-up at all! I used to hate wearing make-up, so when I say I loveeee Benefit, I truely mean it! I don't think I'll be using any other brands anymore.
Also bought their popular blusher, Dandelion online. And I simply love love love it too! Am waiting to buy more. In fact, I want all!
Would you believe it if I tell you this coffeeshop has depended solely on the customers brought in by this single stall? Would you believe if I say I would sometimes delay my sleep just to await the first sunrise to buy my breakfast from this stall?
Honestly, there isn't really a brand or stall name. At least it isn't displayed publicly. Over the past few years, this particular coffeeshop housing this wanton mee stall has changed several times UNTIL this stall started business here. Ever since, the coffeeshop has been able to make it because this stall brings in so much customers. Other stalls in the same coffeeshop on the other hand, comes and goes like stocks and shares.
If you like the usual hawker/kopitiam food, you should like this. The first thing I love, is the noodles. It's perfect, and not soggy! It's that amazing chewing sensation when my teeth sink into them that makes me swear my life upon this stall. Plate after plate, the noodles standard just doesn't fade.
This wanton mee also comes with a generous serving of sweet char siew, healthy vegetables and THREE WANTONS! I think most places still come with a stingy two wantons but they're more than happy to serve three - one fried wanton and two boiled wanton. I know it's only a difference of one but who doesn't want more? Especially when their wantons are stuffed with more meat than those flimsy ones we get elsewhere?
This stall has more to offer. Lor mee and fried chicken mee. Talking about fried chicken mee, it's really their speciality. I tried asking for the recipe of their fried chicken bits but the lady boss told me the recipe is a secret. All she could tell me... honey is one of the ingredients.
Not only is the fried chicken sweet... don't expect alot of meat too. The best experience of this fried chicken mee is the crunchiness of the fried exterior along with the wet noodles. What a contrast.
Wanting to meet me for dinner to try out? I'm so sorry, they're close by noon. No matter how much ingredients they purchase, everything is sold out after lunchtime. That's how good they are. It's little wonder why the customers keep returning to them every morning, starting from 7am. Like me, we are never sick of eating their noodles.
My verdict? A must try! It's probably not the most glamorous food around, but comparing the serving, taste and rapport with their customer against some other "famous wanton mee" in Old Kallang Airport Road or North Bridge Road - this neighbourhood stall beats the big names hands down.
Regular customers (twice or thrice a week) like me get just a tiny little whiny bigger share... haha... can I be blamed? The only saddening thing is GST taking a toll on them, and the price has since risen from $2.50 to $2.80. I don't care... I still want my good food!
Sasa is a store known to many Singapore women. It has a wide variety of beauty products, cosmetics and fragrances. :) One stop for your beauty needs.
I read about the Nu Ren products retailing at Sasa and went there over on Monday to see if I can get my hands on the chilli hot slimming gel etc.
I walked in to a shop with 3 assistants and no other customers. It was a Monday afternoon after all. Quite awed and distracted by the array of things I proceeded to browse every shelf. This store is much smaller than the others though thus have less items.
After some time, I realised that no one has tended to me. I then remembered about my slimming gel and turned around to get the attention of the staff since I couldn't see it anywhere. The staff saw me wave but turned away! I had thought that I was imagining things so I milled around again till I saw that another staff was facing my direction and i waved... and she turned to talk to her colleague!
