Went to this restaurant today. Had quite bad experience.
Firstly the "manager" cut in while we were talking among ourselves. Though he is explaining the menu, its real rude to just cut in while we were chatting.
2ndly, my medium well done steak came out medium, and CY's medium steak came out medium rare. (and the auntie waitress was going "too raw AH?" and "cook some more LA?")
3rdly, the waiter delivered the desserts wrongly. When we asked him about it (since we did not ask for it to be served) he insisted that his manager asked him to deliver and proceed to put the desserts on our table. He should have said that he will check and not just listen blindly to his manager.
4th, proceeded to bill us for things not delivered.
Nothing much to commend just that the ambience was quite good and suitable for some family gathering. Can go there if you want value for money portion of food esp the set lunch and dinner.
Great place for chilling out with a group of friends. Comfortably priced alcohol for all. Local uni students get 30% off listed price too! (How I wish I was still a student lah!)
Have been to ICB several occasions for gatherings with friends. Located in the center of Singapore, its easily accessible for people staying anywhere. This place serves over 38 types of bottled beers, and also martinis, spirits and sodas. Happy hours from 11am to 9pm daily and all day long on Sundays!
If you're planning to go there for decent meal, you can forget it. But if you just need something to bite, I'll recommend going for the beef wrap ($6) and big bowl of popcorn ($5). Works all the time for me with these and beer! (Avoid the hotdog bun, go for the beef wrap. Trust me! It's more worth it!)
There's also a pool table to play and every Thursday night, there's also free wii games!
Oh! And if you're sitting along the stretch of seats with pillows and red back rest, please sit with care k! The seats are NOT soft and the entire sit may just pop up at the side if one sits too fast at the edge of it. Don't say i didn't warn you ah!
Yebbers! Anyone wants to go party on a Thursday at ICB?
Notorious for its long history of prostitution, Geylang Road, fronted by low-rise shophouses – protected from urban redevelopment in keeping with its history and heritage – is also famous for the delicious food offerings. And Sik Wai Sin Eating House, once voted Top 50 restaurants in Singapore by the Sunday Times along the likes of Morton’s, Au Jardin, Les Amis, Iggy’s, and Garibaldi, is one of them.
Although located in a dingy tiny coffeeshop, Sik Wai Sin is nothing short of a stalwart in Cantonese-styled Tze Char (literally means “cook and fried” in dialect). In order to bring out the best in each dish, HFB quickly realised that one do not have many choices when it come to dishes to order – almost every table was eating the same fare!
Stir-fried KaiLan with Garlic was well fried, and wasn’t over-cooked – with stump of the vegetables still retaining crunch. The savoury sauce was flavourful, but dish was oily overall.
One of their signatured dishes, the Homemade Tofu Fried with Giant Prawns, in Egg Sauce was a joy to consume. The tofu was well woked with aroma, and the prawns, lip smacking juicy and crunchy – certainly a brilliant pairing with a bowl of rice.
The Steamed Minced Pork with Salted Fish certainly brings back the good old memories from my grandparents’ time. A dish, which HFB would claim to be traditional, he reckons not many youngsters nowadays would take to this dish because of the fishy smell (from the salted fish). Although another nice dish to go with the rice, HFB finds that the dish was slightly overcooked and thus, the meat was slightly tough. A pathetic serving of the salted fish, nevertheless any extra and the dish will be too salty for consumption.
The Steamed Fishhead is probably their trademark dish, and it was inevitable that one would find this on almost each and every table. Comes in only one serving size (big that is – we tried asking for small), the humongous fishhead can easily feed a handful of adults. Covered in Bean Paste and Pork Lard, it’s probably the latter that sets it apart from the many other steamed fishhead out there. Rid of the muddy taste of a typical fresh-water fish, the fish is fleshy and tender – so much so that even a non-fishhead eater has plenty of meat to go for. Go with a spread of the bean paste and a piece of lard and “nirvana” is the only word that came close to mind.
The last among all dishes served, the Sweet and Sour Pork wasn’t really worth the wait. Although the pork is nicely coated with an intensely tangy sauce captured via an incredible high heated wok, HFB found the meat a little too tough to chew – probably from over-frying. Since being served last, the meat also gets to one towards the end.
You girls are completely right.. The bread, especially the chocolate bowl is super duper nice.. As they always say.. besides diamonds, chocolate is the girl's next best friend. Man's Best friend is a dog and his next best friend is still the dog........ heehee! Sorry Guys!
What I love about the Cafe is the Jap feel to it... Everything they use is so JAP and with that i cannot help Warping to tokyo... Grab yourself some nice bread and coffee and hog a sit at the nice alfresco balcony. With the fresh air and beautiful greenary around you with the low houses you can imagine as huts.. One cannot but feel like Alice in the wonderland having tea with Mr Rabbit.... Chit Chatting the Day away with the occasional splash of perspiration from the guys at the tables next door.... Why must it always be guys.... BECAUSE perspiring Guys are supposed to be sexy.. So says the Gym Ads......
So much HooHa about the Chocolate Bowl.. Let me tell you why.. It is huge for the price.... Value for money and what more japanese chocolates are very yummy and to be exact tastfully yummy. It is just of the right sweetness and a good texture.. Not exactly spongy yet tacky... which is yummy to chew at. You do not feel sick after eating alot of it... It reserves its taste well and the glossy outlook of it sure brings alot of attraction. The other breads are fabulous as well... pretty in looks and creamy on the inside.
What more.. the Chef's name is KANEKO HIROE SAN... Bread from a HERO... Surely sends tongue wagging... Even the Tissue paper from the tissue box is JAP ok.......
So much good things has already been said.. I can't help but wanna say somemore.
I like ARTFRIEND because the art supplies are better then market rate. You can find everything under one roof and best of all.. Those u can't find elsewhere you can find them all here. May it be school projects, home projects, or office celebrations, they have everything u need.... I bought many interesting things there before.
1. a wooden man for some photography project for marketing brochures.
2. Some wooden cut stuffs to make a 3D Logo for Display
3. Styrofoam Hand for photography.
And so much so much more........
The prices are much better then elsewhere and for that moment of artistic pleasure.. its PRICELESS....
I believe everybody needs a moment of ARTY FARTY somehow or rather.....
For those on a budget, Tatsuya serves a really value for money set lunch, all under $31 . I've tried the Ladies Set and the Barachirashi from here, and pinched a bit of my friend's Sushi set. I really like the Ladies and Sushi sets.
The first time I went (after an extremely stressful exam) I ordered the Barachirashi set($$28 )in my confusion (there are quite alot of lunch sets to choose from!) which is the most unworth-it meal in my opinion, since all the fish is chopped up.
The Sushi Bento $30.90 have really delicious sushi and maki (negitoro!), with glistening fresh slices of fish on perfectly vinegared rice. The tempura which came with this set is less than fantastic - not really worth eating. The Califonia Maki is the best I've tasted, and it's moist without having too much mayo, and covered with lots of roe.
The Ladie's Set comes with cold udon, salad, kakiage (vegetable tempura), salad, a small portion of sushi including califonia maki, chawanmushi, miso soup and watermelon. Pretty generous for a ladie's set if you ask me :) Best of all, it's $26.80 , for this incredibly tasting meal, I say it's completely worth it.
The salad which comes with the lunch sets is extremely delicious - we loved the dressing so much that we ordered the Avocado Salad ($15), hoping to have more dressing. I found it too salty but it has lots of kelp and crispy tempura bits to give it a nice texture.
If you do come here for lunch, make a reservation - some days (not even Fridays!), this place is packed and you really don't want to be sitting in the al fresco area outside in the sweltering heat.
Counter seats are the best - you can watch with eager anticipation as the chefs show off their skills and make your sushi while your tummy hungrily growls...
I did not go there for a Tan..... However i did something else WAY DOWN SOUTH........ Its much Cooler then i expected.. heehee! However, this is not the first time i have done it and let me tell you ALL.... ABOUT..... IT....
I was surprised when i received the phamplet at a bugis roadshow. Surprised about the price and after talking to the lady who gladly informed me she run the whole penguin show..... I was pretty curious and perhaps i felt its time to do some HOUSEKEEPING... and so one fine day.. about a week later I've decided to make appointment and to my good luck... I've managed to secure one in the rush hour evening.... and so... here i go...
While walking to cineleisure i was secretly giggling to myself about how a good deal i've got as compared to my last wax... this one is one third the price... and so.. i was really happy... When i reached the place.... i was early and more then READY to GET CLEANED UP.......
Located at level 5 with a good city view next to me.. I can't help not fidgiting with excitement. After acknowledging my appointment, the lady at the bar counter gracefully lead me to small cosy area to fill up some details. I could see a good bunch of magazines on the table which i believed had been sorely utilized by boring boyfriends or whoever waiting.
After submitting my filled form, I was given a small towel and lead to a make-shift shower room. I was told to wash up with water and dry myself and proceed to a small room just next to the tight couch i sat on earlier. I was thinking to myself " NO SILKY ROBE"........ Nevermind.. The shower room was not small... however.. the shower area is badly stained with tanning lotions.. i could see brown patches everywhere and its not exactly as clean by my standards.. But I told myself.. KEEP AN OPEN MIND... WE NEVER KNOW UNTIL IT ENDS... and so after light washing... I wore back my jeans and proceeded to the room...
While in the room, I met my wax specialist... in other words.. the torturer today....... No Comfy towels.... Just one massage bed and one piece of paper that i think i used that to draw when i was teaching pre school kids.. anyway.. i asked her..." DO I Un-Robe NOW" and she said.. Yes.. Bottom only.. and so there i go... as naked as i was born.. on a cold cold piece of paper atop a massage table.. all ready to be tortured.......
There was no numbing cream or watsoever..... she started with the strip wax.. which is OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH! Its QUICK, It took out alot of hair but it sure hurts...... At that point of time.. while looking at the chandelier right above me.... I could not but ask her.... WHAT DO YOU DO to DROWN OFF the SCREAMs... she gracefully replied.. No SCREAMS.. only GIGGLEs..... We turn up the music..... NO SCREAMS.. MY A**...... How could it be...
As it moves downwards. she started to use the hardwax... which is too hot for my delight.... Perhaps too pampered by my last waxing lady.... I feel not so comfortable... But the hardwax is not as AWWWWSome as the strip wax...... At least I only OUCH twice... All she did to reduce my pain was spray something on the area which i thought was numbing stuffs.. but it turned out to be just some rose water.... I was HEARTBROKEN.......
One thing i liked about her is that she took time to tweeze out the stubborn and baby hairs.. and it did look quite clean and pretty afterwards.... After my thrill ride ended.. there was no lollipop... no soothing cream, just a word of advise that there will still be some wax stuck.. which will rub off once i take a shower... I mean who would RUB... OUCH !!!!
After dressing up i proceeded to make payment and she was nice and handed me a professional looking after wax directions. She also informed me of a one year unlimited waxing for less then $30 per month which is a real great deal. However, I need some time to think about it....
Today, I am still tempted to take up the offer.. I mean unlimited waxing... but then again.. there is still much to consider.... For seasonal waxers...... this is a fabulous place to go to.. QUICK, CLEAN and VALUE FOR MONEY.. But for fast timers.... I advise to bring a huge lollipop to suck on... help ease the screams........ First Timers.. THINK AGAIN!
Pictures perhaps I'm too traumatise..... Next time perhaps....
I found out about AllanBakes from the very-long-ago article in Life!, where Allanbakes made it to the top 50 cake shops in Singapore. It specialises in Cheesecakes, and I've tried 2 of the flavours, the white chocolate strawberry cheesecake (my fave) and the strawberry cheesecake.
The White Chocolate Strawberry Cheesecake ($5.50) was the hot favourite - the texture is melt-in-the-mouth and creamy (but not as heavy as the American Cheesecake kind). There's also bits of fresh strawberry (slightly soggy) embedded inside the cake. Best of all, it's not too sweet.
The Strawberry Cheesecake ($4.50) is rather like a normal cheesecake, again, it's not as heavy as the usually American Cheesecakes. The texture is somwhat between an American Cheesecake and the Japanese Light Cheesecake. It's only strawberry cos it's topped with strawberry sauce and fresh strawberries.
I would definitely like to return to try the incredibly tempting looking Peanut Butter Cheesecake (haven't got the time to do so).
Allan bakes all the cakes himself in the store - I must say it's an impressive variety of cakes baked by a one-man-show.
Although this place is really near my house, I've been here a grand total of twice in since the time it has opened.
The Caesar Salad ($8) This wasn't very fantastic - the dressing, which is the key to good caesar salad is mediocre, and doesn't have the nice anchovy taste. I wouldn't have ordered this ordinarily, but I just felt like having caesar salad that day. It's a pretty small portion for $8, and with no eggs, just iceberg lettuce, cheese and topped with fake bacon bits. I think Coffee Bean does a better caesar salad for slightly cheaper.
The French Onion soup (price is either $4 or $5, I can't remember) is packed full of tender onions, and comes with a piece of baguette covered with melted cheese.
Grilled Chicken Burger ($12) - lots of chicken (the real thing, not the processed patty) in a tangy slightly spicy thai dressing. It's a good amount of chicken so I'll be willing to pay the $12 bucks. Of course, if you're comparing this to Astons, Astons is definitely cheaper. The sesame bun is lightly toasted, buttered, and the burger is complete with tomatoes, lettuce and raw onion rings. The mashed potatoes are creamy and buttery, and the daily salad is tossed in vinaigrette dressing.
Of course, it's nearly half price compared to Brewzwerks (small and al fresco)which is just around the corner, but somehow I can't shake the feeling that I'm getting ripped off for a pseudo-coffeeshop turned al fresco bar.
I would definitely go back to eat the burger, but I won't recommend you trudging across half of Singapore. It's great tasting for convenience and free parking (but it's pretty hard to find parking on weekends).
If you are a die-hard Car Fanatic, then you will definitely know McWell Ventures. If you aspire to be a car fanatic, you must know about McWell Ventures.. If you have a friend that is a car fanatic.... then the more you should know about McWell Ventures... If you don't have any friends who are car fanatics and you are not one yourself, then its time to know why are there car fanatics by reading this post on McWell Ventures.
McWell Ventures is a well known space to go to when you need to change your headlights from that boring yellow torchlight to the cool super white XENON floodlights or perhaps improve your car's performance by changing your ECU or a simple tuning. The main thing is that they do the INSIDE and they also cover the OUTSIDE. The best thing is that they do it REAL WELL... Speak to the consultants there and they can recommend you the best add ons for your beloved bao bei Car.....
These add ons can enhance fuel efficiency at the same time provide power when you need it. Your beloved hippopotamus can now be reborn into a racing cheetah.... What more if we cannot afford an expensive car, the next best thing is a personalised car and personalisation not only requires good taste, but also great skill, which i believe the experienced technicians at the workshop can help u with. One nasty burp from your car, they could detect whats wrong with it and recommend the perfect cure for it.
Feeling bored with the fat butt that follows you around when you drive. Sleek it with a nice spoiler, straight through exhust to help breath better and prehaps some progressive springs to lower it. Don't forget the shiny momo rims u drool at car shows, in no time you will experience your dream ride expecially with that car fanatic flooding his car parked right beside yours at the traffic light.
If you just want some basic accessories, they too have some really nice stuffs like extra mirrors for that extra view, nice smelling air refresheners, loud and clear air horns, beng-ie lights, belt covers even Funky Stickers... I just got some really nice bullet holes for my dad's car... for that extra something for him to talk about and they have a good range of decorations stickers which are great to cover up scratches and dents.
If you are a Clean Freak... Yes they do carry a good range of ALL sorts of Protection Kits, Cleaning Stuffs, Antiseptics, Ionisers.. and wipers that last almost a lifetime. Look out also for the stock clearance items. I've got a few good stuffs there at a real bargain.
So if you're there... just remember that the workshop is all you see at ground level and get up on to the shopping mall at the second level and if you really really need the loo. Please don't go to the one at the workshop... though its open for use... You may want to try the one at the food court opposite. Please expect to wait if you want something drastic to be done... but they have some couches for you to laze around and read some magazines while you wait...
Cars are never cheap, so are their parts.. But the morale of the story i think should be VALUE FOR MONEY.. and i believe McWell Venture's Stuffs and Services are not only Value for Money, but also reliable and for all i know, they next time i ride with my speedster, i'm sure i'm in good hands....
