    1291. Au Petit Salut

Went to newer Au Petit at Harding Road, my first time going there since it shifted, and my first dinner there. Usually, I'll go for the more affordable lunch, but this was for a birthday dinner. Au Petit is one of my favourite choices for any meal as it has never once dissappointed me.
I had the Warm goat cheese salad with celeriac rémoulade, baby spinach and tomato confit ($15). Its a small portion of goats cheese, melted and runny at the sides, on top of celeriac, which is a crunchy root vegetable with a faint wasabi-ish aftertaste. It goes very well with the creamy goat's cheese. (the first picture in the side is labeled wrongly - it's the goats cheese).

My main course was the Oven roasted French quail stuffed with duck Foie Gras and wild mushrooms, mashed potatoes and brown jus ($32). It was a generous portion of wobbly Foie Gras cooked and stuffed into pigeon with tasty mushrooms. The pigeons was tender, though some work was needed to debone the bird. The mashed potatoes were extremely creamy.

The main course that I tasted and liked the most was the Boston lobster and scallops risotto with fresh herbs and lobster emulsion ($36). Like most well executed seafood dishes, the sweetness of the lobster was infused into the risotto, and the whole dish was bursting with flavour.

For dessert, we tried the French “Tiramisu” pink sponge biscuits soaked in Champagne fresh strawberries and raspberries ($14). It was a interesting change to usual brown and white layered tiramisu as this was pretty in pink and white, with luscious layers of cream cheese.

For variety, try the dessert platter, which comprises of a variety - Warm chocolate cake, profiterole, gingerbread, crème brulée, strawberry sorbet ($28)
Of course, the portion is pretty big - and good to share amongst 2-3 people. It comes with their popular chocolate profiterole drenched in decadant chocolate sauce, warm creme brulee with a caramellized top, gingerbread and tangy strawberry sorbet for a cool and sweet finish to the meal.

We were fortunate to get a corner table in the aircon dining area and all of us enjoyed our meal.

    1292. Ramen Santouka

Tried Santouka finally (after all the rave reviews). I'm quite a big ramen fan, and these ramen speciality restaurants are a must-try for me. I got myself the highly recommended Tokusen Toroniku (Choice Pork) Ramen ($18 ). It's the speciality dish here - roasted pork cheeks which are tender and bursting with flavour and melt in the mouth. According to the menu, pork cheeks are really valuable since only 200-300 g of cheek meat per pig.
The ramen base comes in 4 different flavours: Shio (salt flavour), shoyu (soy sauce), Miso (soybean paste flavour) and kara-miso (spicy soybean paste flavour). I tried the miso flavour, it's not too salty, very milky and robust and incredibly satisfying.
The ramen comes in 3 sizes, for a smaller bowl you take $1 off the menu price, and add $2 for a large bowl. Small on the left and regular on the right of the 3rd picture. I ate the normal size one - it's pretty filling because of all the soup.

Though I really like the 9 nuts (or was it 7?) ramen from Marutama, I think this will be a better place to bring a group of people who might not want to eat ramen to cos they have a wider selection of ramen and there are other rice choices besides ramen.

The restaurant is brightly lit and overlooks the Singapore River. Cold water is provided in abundance - a huge jug of it is left at your table for your convenience. The restaurant also provides a pecial basket from Japan to place your bags in. Seating area is rather small so do call in advance if you're going to bring a group of people.

Yes i finally FINALLY tried Relish.

Another new craving in my list(of Sashimi and fish n chips).
Burger. Ok well Wagyu Burger but relish can also

Liked how its located nxt to a antique furniture store..or sumthing. Its on the 2nd story and i like how its concept is like. very cool

I was torn between the Ramlee- Wild rocket burger and the new Blue Cheese & William Pear Burger. So the bf got Ramlee and I got the Blue Cheese. Upsized my fries to onion rings and we ordered the deconstructed Strawberry chezcake for dessert..

The burgers were alright. I wasnt wowed by my selection . Liked the walnut butter and thepear but it seemed abit too dry. But the Ramlee was gooood. Esp with the egg and the chili and mayo. calorie overdose but heck it.

Fries were nicce. Crunchy n not too salty. Didnt get too jerlak or full. But the onion rings were a dispointment. Not gonna go much into it.

according to ice, citibank cardmembers have a promo where we can get the molten cake if we spend over 50(wic we so did). but when i asked the manager he responded that there werent any promo-i accepted it. but when i asked again specifically qouting the citibank he then confirmed there was that promo but reminded that we have to spend more than $50. in a way i was like (uh u took our orders and we so spent more than 50.heck we spent more than 60!!!). but ok..nvm..gettin the cake although to me molten cake is molten cake.kinda over it.

Cheesecake was intresting. bf enjoyed it, i was just eating it. i like the cheesecake part esp the biscuit base but sumhow lost my apetite by then and molten cake i ate just to get my chocolate fix. I left feeling full but not really satisfied. Overall it was not abig deal and i would rather pay more and go for my wagyu burger at Brown Sugar

I think this is the only place where I wouldnt mind splurging on when dining in Tampines.

Only tried their sample appetizer platter last New Years eve and due to my recent Fish n Chips cravings, me and fren decided to try out this place.

I love the decor, u can either sit at the normal dining tables or a table for 4 but seated on 2 sofas. i loved that but abit hard to eat cos the table is like a standard coffee table and only reaches to my knees.

The drinks selection looked good too but will try it another day.
I had my fish and chips duh and my fren had the chicken snitzel with the brown sauce. Both came with salad and fries.

My fish and chips were super yummy!!!The batter was light and didnt look like it was drowned in oil*phew*. oh n did i mention it was HUUUGE!!! it was like they used an entire fish!well one that is as long or even longer than a small ruler. And for like 14.90 i tink.
But its a good thing though, if not my fren wouldnt have gotten to try the fish. Yes i actually had a hard time finishing it.(at first)

The chicken snitzel was well just like a chicken cutlet. Only drowned in brown sauce. Which was not bad but well it can be gotten at a food court. Although the size just makes up for it. For 11.90 it is another huge serving.

Drinks was bit ridiculously priced thou. One canned drink at 5 a pop. abit like roadkill rite. Maybe making up for the low price of the food.

Service was oryt. The place wasnt too crowded so staff were attentive. Wonder how if its packed.

One gripe though. Its just behind the taxi stand and entrance of Century square so people passing by will be looking through like they havnt seen other people eating before. Sometimes its just so darn iritating. Even fish tanks have this concept when people can see in but the fish cant see out i tink. Restaurants shuld use that glass.

Had been meaning to try out Nanbantei and the chance presented itself one evening when I happened to be at Orchard with my gf. Located on the 5th floor of the hip Far East Plaza, Nanbantei, which specialises in Yakitori, has garnered many accolades and rave reviews including that of Tatler's Singapore's Best Restaurant.

The interior of Nanbantei is rather tiny and cramp and the bulk of the seating comes in the form of counter seats (there are a few tables that can accomodate 4 though), which offer a live view of the chef grilling your orders. When I say cramp, it means almost shoulder to shoulder with the person beside you at the counter, which is really disconcerting to say the least.

The scallop was quite a size and came very well seasoned and grilled. A nice smokey taste lingered, complementing the fibrous texture of the scallop. I did find the salt a little too heavy though.

Asparagus Maki & Nikuzume Shiitake - If I may say, the asparagus maki was nothing short of excellent. It really surpassed all expectations. Soft asparagus covered with a layer of pork grilled till crisp and a sprinkling of salt for that extra flavour. If not for the price($5.70), I would have ordered more.
The Shiitake mushroom stuffed with chicken was average really. The chicken taste overwhelmed the mushroom and it was a tad too salty.

Ebi - At $7 per relatively large prawn, its honestly quite expensive especially when there was no marination or anything, save for the dash of salt sprinkled whilst grilling. To give it credit, the prawns were sweet with a nice grilled taste. But believe me, take away the shells and the meat is minimal.

Tokusei Tsukune - Nanbantei's Tokusei Tsukune or house special meatballs, was essentially 2 skewers of meat merged into one huge and rather unsightly chunk and came served with a single raw quail's egg sliced off at the top. The meat was nicely minced with bits of uneveness but I did find the dish to be very salty probably due to the sauce. A decent dish, but not fantastic.

Shiitake - Yet another overly salty dish, the shiitake didn't come across as too dry though due to the sauce. Not something I would order again for just over $5.

Yaki Onigiri - A Japanese speciality according to the waitress, the Yaki Onigiri was rather interesting and looked very much like a corn cob. Grilled to charred and hard on the outside yet a little soft and sticky on the inside. The flavours were a mix and match of salty and spicy, which honestly was a terrible end to the meal. It definitely didn't help that bits of the charred rice were very prone to getting lodged in between my teeth.

$68 for a meal with such meagre portions is ridiculously expensive in my opinion, even though the food is fairly decent. To be fair, Nanbantei does offer set meals at $32 for 8 sticks of yakitori which does seem a better deal, but going ala carte is definitely a big no no. Drinks are expensive as well and no complimentary iced water is served.

    See all my pictures here.

Went to this Sushi Tei for the first time two days ago.

I ordered the salmon belly soup, which was on promotion, sashimi salad, Golden roll, as well as a couple of Nigiri sushi namely the salmon sushi and the hokkigai sushi.

The taste was quite good and the sushi were fresh as well. However, one thing that needs to be improved would be the service as they tended to be slow in serving my table, even though there wasn't much of a crowd. In addition, I think that the pricing may be slightly higher to other similar Japanese restaurants.

Overall I find that the ambience was quite nice. The crowd there generally was more of the working class and thus was quite quiet, which was good. However, given the pricing and somewhat limited variety of food and also no discount given unless you are a Sushi Tei member , I would rather go for a buffet at Hanabi or Hoijin, which would be more value for money.

I bought the mushroom chicken tart during their food fair at takashimaya .

It cost me $1.20 per tart i think is quite valuable for it since the normal egg tart i bought at the neighbourhood bakery shop is 80 cents - $1.

Furthermore, there is Mushroom and CHicken !

Well, the tart is heavenly fragrant and tasty !

However, if you have more than 3 ... it will make you feel gross due to the oil .

So 1-2 per person is just nice. ( this is what i think )

I will try their jam flavour tarts the next time i visit to IMM :D

NOt only the fake crepes display,,, the ice-cream display beside the crepe stall look equally tasty ..*drooling*

My sister and i decided to order the strawberry crepes with Japanese imported CREAM which cost us $4.80 . The cheapest of all .

When the crepe was handover to our hand ... we could not take our eyes off !

The "pancake" is warm , in contrast , the cream is cold ...

SO it made a perfect combination of taste when you had your first mouth of crepe...

The staff were very friendly...as they describe each of the favours patiently and in detailed. I even mistook that the staff were Japanese! lol

Btw... don't you think that the logo is familiar to the Lorry in Death note 2 ! ?

    Small but cosy cafe.

Have past by this little cafe tuck at the corner of Marina Square several times. Over the weekend, we decided to give it a try.

As we weren't that hungry, and it was already pretty late, we decided to have some finger food. Ordered half dozen of NZ Greenlip Mussels and a Seafood Basket.

You can choose how you want your mussels to be done. We settled with White wine and garlic. This half dozen mussels was pretty alright. The wine was relatively mild and could taste more of the garlic than the wine.

The Seafood Basket took quite awhile to come. We were shocked to see it served in a bucket instead of the usual basket. There was a piece of fish, 2 prawns, 2 scallops, 2 fish nuggets and bunch of fries. All quite well battered and fried. Except for the prawns, which we both felt was too tiny and too much batter. Fish was crispy and crunch. Like the texture of the way it was cooked.

Overall quite a nice and simple meal. The place is pretty cool at night, we the lightings hanging from the ceiling of Marina Square and cosy ambience of Fin Cafe. (Check out the attached video and you'll know what I mean.) :)

And well, looks like they've started charging GST already! Its hard to survive without this these days.
