This is my favourite spot for skin care window shopping. The layout of the level 1 skin care counters are nicely packed without being too close to each other, and is also easily navigable too. The array of skin care products are aplenty and you can easily while 1hr away just looking at choices.
The shoes department on the same level also offer plenty of choices and brands for shoe-pa-holics.
The 2nd and 3rd floors are not places which I often visit and are usually quieter but nonetheless spacious enough for window shopping without having to fight the mad weekend crowds.
The only negative comment is how small the bag section is. Not too exciting if you're looking for bags but then again an excuse to not blow more moolah!
I shop here alot as its the nearest Watson's to me. It is a smaller store compared to the latest megastores but it is sufficient to get daily essentials and makeup stuff here without the frills.
I come here more to buy the korean hair care which other places dont carry - but I'd wish they have more promotions for it as it is expensive! Other than that, their Listerine mouthwashes are sometimes cheaper than the supermarkets too.
Being a watson's member will be better as you get rebates off - since you're going to spend at Watson's anyway, might as well get something out of it isnt it? It is a tedious process as the rebates are pegged at 0.3% but it'll slowly accumulate.
Every now and then they offer members special prices and members' day too where the rebates go up to as high as 6% so well worth the $5 you pay for a lifetime membership.
You can also quote your NRIC if you dont have the card with you, which is always convenient.
My mum for some reason had a random buffet craving and picked this place for her birthday dinner. Strange choice I thought as Grand Park was never in my mind for food. But heck, I put forth my trust in the Park Hotel Group brand and we went for it.
Which turned out to be a good choice~
Ambience - The way to the hotel can be packed if you go during weekends but once you step into the hotel, it's nice and quiet. You can hardly tell looking at the exteriors of the hotel that the inside is almost luxe and elegant but it was.
Price - $48 per pax for a Sunday buffet dinner, with 20% discount with DBS cards. We paid about $135 for 3pax as the discount barely scrapped off the but better than nothing I guess.
Selection & quality - the selection was good in my opinion, ranging from very fresh seafood (lobsters!) to sushis, appetizers (spinach tofus, cured meats), salads (with mutiple toppings), carving stations (roased pork leg anyone), soups (tomato and salted duck), hot dishes (indian curries, steamed fish, roasted root veg, risotto, pastas) and finally desserts galore (chocolate fondue, macaroons, ice cream, cookies, egg tarts, strudels). Except for the salted duck soup, everything was rather good! The buffet comes with coffee / tea too.
Service - Only a few other tables were filled, so service was not so bad, except for the times when a handful of staff were more engrossed in spacing out than watching for patrons waving for attention.
We had a surprisingly good experience, although I'm not sure if the quality can be maintained. I also did spot their Sunday champagne brunch priced at $100 per pax inclusive of free flow champagne, wines, and beers - which looks like a good deal as compared to other hotels' champagne brunches.
Most of the times, the only reason why I fly Tiger is because they are the only airline left that flies direct to Macau, my favorite chillout / space out destination. *Please dont take that away!!*
My new tip to fellow Tiger travellers is: please DO NOT EVER check in online. Because when they say the system will assign your seats for you, it means it will assign you the least popular seats ie the place ie the last row right next to the toilets.
I thought I was doing them a favour by checking in online. And there is absolutely no chance / way / methods of changing your seats after that. The officer just says 'sorry mdm, you cant change as you've done a web check in'.
Well obviously they failed to see the only reason why I am asking for a change is because their system penalizes web check in passengers instead of the other way round - so the cause of my appeal is the reason for rejecting my appeal. Really?
Their website says there is a special line for web check in passengers, maybe to incentivize passengers to proceed. Apparently not. You get mashed up with all the others in the same queue at the airport.
Oh, and their online feedback forms are there for their own entertainment purposes too. Either it says error when you click submit after you've typed in all you wanted to say, or its successful but you get no response in return. So the person reading it must receive it and trash them on a daily basis.
The management of Tiger Airways is a joke. Being a budget airline doesnt give you the right to ignore public feedback, especially when we're the ones giving you business.
The idea was to do a comparison between our long time favourite steak house, Morton's, and the relatively new entrant to Singapore's F&B scene, Ruth's Chris. And so one Saturday evening saw the both of us dropping by Ruth's Chris for dinner.
Located where Restaurant Bologna used to be at Marina Mandarin Singapore, the interior hasn't changed much since the days of Bologna - crisp table clothes coupled with leather backed seats and wooden panels adorned with art. The window seats offer you a view of a huge water feature wall and of course the warmth of natural sunlight (if you arrive early enough). This place is decidedly more "upclass" and stifling than Mortons, which I personally like for its casual, convivial atmosphere. To be fair, the place was pretty much empty save for another 2 tables besides ours. So that could be a contributing factor to the "over attention" from the wait staff.
Complimentary Bread - Just your regular soft baguette served warm, nothing like the onion loaf from Mortons. But still something decent to keep your hunger pangs at bay whilst you await your orders. Morton's 1, RC 0.
Sizzlin Blue Crab Cakes - A little dry on the outside but moist within, the crab cake was chock full of crab meat and topped with capsicum, which gave it a nice contrasting flavour and texture. Personally I thought it was nice just that the crab taste was a little lacking. I'll rate this as a tie with Morton's as I really liked the use of capsicum here. Morton's 1, RC 0.
Petit Filet Oscar Style - The petit filet was 210g, which was a decent size considering I ordered it "Oscar Style", which simply meant an addition of asparagus and a lump of crab cake smothered in Bearnaise sauce (all for a mere $15 extra). Now if only Morton's had such an option. That aside, the steak boasted tender, juicy meat that was a little crisp along the edges and well seasoned with salt. Very good! I'm gonna have to go with RC on this one as the filet marginally edges out the filet mignon from Morton's. And it definitely helps that RC has the option of an add on at a reasonable price. Morton's 1, RC 1.
Barbecued Shrimp - The BBQ shrimp were crunchy and decent sized but still a little smaller than what Morton's serves up (even after the downgrade in size). But what it lacks in size, it makes up in quantity (10 shrimps vs 6 from Morton's). The sauce reminds me of a creamy, garlicky concoction that has a mild burning sensation towards the end probably due to the copious amounts of garlic. In short, either you love it or you hate. And we loved it. But as Morton's Shrimp Alexander is vastly different, I am hard pressed to determine which dish has the edge. Morton's 1, RC 1.
Crème Brûlée - This is apparently a signature of Ruth's Chris. Though good, it wasn't anything I would go out of my way to order again. The vanilla bean custard base came across as creamily smooth whilst the caramel top was nicely and evenly torched. Portions are good for 2.
Warm Apple Crumb Tart - Huge, nicely sweet yet tart Granny Smith apple slices encrusted by a moist, fragrant tart shell and topped with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream. Only minor gripes I had was that the tart was a little too soft for my liking and that the apple slices were a little too big for comfort. Having said that, this was still an excellent dessert and we preferred this over Morton's Upside Down Apple Pie. Morton's 1, RC 2.
Portions are a bit smaller at Ruth's Chris but prices are slightly cheaper, as compared to Morton's. Even so, dinner for the both of us (without any drinks) cost to the tune of $285. Food wise, based on the dishes we tried, Ruth's Chris has a slight edge. However, factor in the more casual, laid back ambience and service of Morton's and its a tie. But maybe you think otherwise?
This is my secret place for all my shopping stress busting sprees.... Its a super economical place to buy all your toiletries, snacks and everyday household stuffs. Though they also carry a good range of casual clothing and footwear at super economical prices but nothing gives me the adrenaline rush more than toiletries especially travel sized ones.
Neatly stacked with a range of everyday brands and non-everyday brands; I love the well placed items which I find it easy to browse and sometimes we never know what interesting things and super great deals we could find here. I once found a bundle of 3 bottles of Theramed toothpaste gel-kind for the price of 1.5 bottles I buy in watsons.... The travel sized shampoos, hair conditioners (particularly hard to find) and shower gels which is usually sold for at least S$2, you could get them here for S$1.50 or less. Also you can find some interesting products from reputable brands here that you can never find in a regular pharmacy or other shopping malls.
So I say, do take time and browse, the stuffs are super economically priced and the huge variety of everyday items, there is bound to have something to be brought home with you. Shop is not exactly BIG but the merchandises are many and of a great value.... i quote again.... SUPER GOOD VALUE..... pop by and you know what i mean....
If you are looking for quality skin care products with an economical price, this is the place to go. I walked pass this shop a couple of days ago and was simply overwhelmed by the beautiful yet clean image. Smiling faces and warm cheerful "Hellos" greeted me as I entered this beautiful shop. The "whiteness" and refreshing scent of the shop is very appealing to me as it gives me a sense of purity, cleanliness and somehow serenity.....
While I browse through the enchanting bottles of body scrubs decked in various colours and flavours, the friendly staff actually offered me an experience of this product that is enriched with dead sea minerals over at this very posh sink. She gently rubbed some lavender flavoured body scrub on the back on my hand and explained to me the product, after-which she washed it off and pat my hand dry with some tissue. The experience was great and my hand did feel rather smooth and moisturized without the sticky feeling like most scrubs will do to me. The scent was gentle and does not give me a headache. You must be curious why i say that... because the scent of lavender usually gives me a headache and only from a few prestige branded products that I do not get a headache from smelling them and I'm glad.. this lavender body scrub isn't one of them. I liked the after-math feeling of my skin and decided to buy a large bottle at S$29.90. Be sure to also purchase a small little wooden scoop which pairs really well with the clean small square bottle. While I smelt the other various flavors, I've also decided on a smaller 150ml Cherry Blossom body scrub which gives a sweet floral scent. I mean.. a girl needs a new scent for every mood, every activity and everytime she dresses up. Just be glad I didn't buy the entire 7 flavours.
They do also carry matching flavors lotions, creams, shower creams, mist, the entire complete range of body care and 2 items i find extremely interesting. The foam whipped body soap is a pressured bottle of liquid body soap that creates a thick and rich foam when pressed that is of a light and creamy texture that cleans very well. The body souffle is also mighty fantastic. This gently scented body cream that is very moisturizing yet does not gives a sticky after application experience comes in a neat flat bottle for easy carry around and no spills. I love the texture as I find it rich and creamy yet easy to apply and I was surprised by the quick absorption of the smooth cream on my skin. My skin did feel supple after application, as such I also got myself a travel sized of 50ml one for S$13.90.
They also do carry various bath accessories including bath towels and bath robes... A true bath experience accessories, scents and products. Its like bringing the entire MiddleEastern Bath experience right to the comfort of your home.
The price is great, product is fabulous, exotic scents such as vanilla and sandalwood available and most importantly, the helpful staff generously puts you through trials after trials.... I love the attitude and indeed a feel pampered just by visiting the shop, not to mention the beautiful packaging which I will elaborate in the next review.. So stay tuned...
We visited KBox during the first week of the new year as we would like to start of this year with an out-blast of *non-coordinated* *heartfelt* *ear-bleeding* emotional declaration of love songs, kpop, jpop and Gong Xi Fa Chai Songs.... Yes.. Kbox do carry a wide variety of songs of various genre, language and artist from the international scene. What is most appalling is the songs our local Singaporean artiste sings. Matter of fact, if not for the interactive and easy to use Kbox computer song selection system, I would not have known that our local tv-serial stars did singing and you could sing their songs..
The outlet is at the second level of *Scape, if not the top level. It looked like a black/red hole with a counter. I am thrilled with the Kbox logo stuck to the ceiling, I thought its interesting but seriously, how many people do raise their heads to notice whats on the ceiling? Its not a big place and the rooms are small... We are sadly given this really small and oblong room to house 4 of us and the air-conditioning is really WARM.... Matter of fact, when we open the door to the outside we could feel the rush of cool wind into our room... While we kindly notified the staff, we were told that nothing could be done. While our group increased in size, we asked to change a room and the kind staff gladly agreed to let us, however this came with a PRICE.... which i will tell you later... The next room though slightly larger is also WARM... shortly as we inquired further.. the two rooms are sharing the same compressor unit... *FAINT*... yes.. laterally feeling faint...
Though the service is pretty friendly and the snacks are yummy, not all the gadgets in the room is working properly. I guess its about time for a total maintainance of the equipment must be made. Except for the song selection computer system, i should say the *applause / jeer / clap* functions which is very fun to me is NOT WORKING.... the wall control system is also not working and the microphone sometimes goes out of connection....
Now the price we are talking about... they allowed changing of rooms only when we had more people and just an additional of 2 person up us to the next catagory in which instead of just having to pay for the additional 2 person, we had also to pay for 2 additional snacks. Now the price of the snacks is the same as the price of 1pax... so its 4 pax in total. Not forgetting the room rental price and other misc. So it turned out to be pretty expensive and not the small promo amount they offer you. With the many separate charges here and there, i think its wiser to inquire on the phone or online first before you actually pop by.
This is a really small outlet and the rooms are small with no attached toilets. So if you are coming to this outlet, the sauna rooms are 503 and 505....
Someone had a craving for Peking duck for a family dinner so we randomly picked this place instead of the ever popular Imperial Treasure. 6 of us decided to be adventurous and over-ordered the no of dishes - but later realized that some of their portions are rather small so we ended up nicely full ~
Triple Delight Roasted Peking Duck (half) ($35) - to be honest I expected more from the reviews I heard. The skin was less crispy than ideal, although they did carve it tableside and all that. The sauces were very good though. Didnt manage to take a pic of the duck itself too.
2nd course Ee Fu Duck noodles ($8) - I was vetoed for my choice of how to have the meat done so we had this - which turned out to be actually quite nice as braised ee fu noodles are quite boring to me. It has a nice wokk hei accompanying it.
OHK Soup of the Day ($25) - This was excellent! The soup was double boiled watercress with pork ribs and they portioned it out for us but if you look at the colour of the soup, you'd know that it is really quality soup. A tad expensive for the dish but hey, ou pay for the ambience and quality.
Braised prawns with vermicelli ($13.80) - This was so good we ordered a 2nd portion. The vermicelli was full flavoured and must have soacked up whatever stock it was in. Generous portion of fresh crunchy prawns made this the best dish of the night for me. The crazy promotional prize is only valid for Fridays though - and other days have different dishes on offer.
Baked fillet of cod fish with white truffle sauce ($28) - 2 pieces of the fish nicely grilled and drizzled with white truffle sauce - simply yet very good. A smallish portion though.
Sauteed scallops with lily pulp ($28) - What I would expect and nothing out of the ordinary. You can skip this boring choice if you like.
Braised beancurd with mushrooms and vegetables ($13) - Same boring dish too - good but nothing wow.
Sauteed seasonal beans with conpoy ($18) - The long beans were not deep fried which is such a rare bonus. The plate was topped off with ikan bilis and shredded conpoy bits which made the dish feel more luxurious than average.
The bill came to $236 for 6pax (inclusive of the tea, towels etc) which seemed quite okay for the number of people we had and looking at the no of dishes we ordered. But its still not a everyday place.
Service was rather good and attentive so the experience was a plus.
I had the opportunity to attend a biz lunch there and had the set lunch at $38 per pax. The photos, by the way, are terrible as I had to sneakily snap them with my phone.
Steamed pork dumpling and deep fried prawn in pumpkin sauce - the pork dumpling is siew mai really which was okay but the prawn was fresh and crunchy and literally drowned in the rather tasty gooey pumpkin sauce.
Braised minced fish in thick soup - nice but I couldnt taste the minced fish - a dash of vinegar made it better though.
Deep fried spare ribs in vinegar sauce - the vinegar sauce was quite unique but the ribs were too fatty for me.
Chef Chan's famous roasted chicken - I had this before years ago and I remembered not being wow-ed by it. This time, it felt the same.
Sauteed seasonal vegetables with minced garlic - disappointingly normal.
Chilled hawthorn jelly - good and a big portion too.
Service was very good but maybe because we had the semi partitioned hall and had 11pax. You also do feel the atas-ness within the traditional Chinese settings which makes the experience a bit better.
That being said, I wouldnt return as the food is really average for a supposedly reputable restaurant. Maybe because Chef himself no longer runs the kitchen?
