I heard the place was very run down in the past. They renovated it and expanded the "coffee shop" into a restaurant.
Other items worth trying is the MAN TOU!
I think it's one of the best that I have eaten. The man tou is cut into 2 and deep fried. The outside is crunchy but the inside is soft. It goes extremely good with the saucy crabs.
Another item to recommend is the fried mee sua. At $5 per plate, it has generous ingredients and it's not any other mee sua you have eaten before!
Of course the honey-black pepper sauce pork ribs "his food blog" mentioned is a 100% must try. The combination of the sweet honey and the slightly spicy pepper goes well with the friend ribs.
Other items I have tried are the golden dragon chicken, an imitation of roast pig but it's not comparable. Fried mini sotong is good but not it's not a 100% must try.
You think it's crazy? But it's true at Bai Koh Ken.
It originates from Japan and there are 2 branches over there.
It's authetic Japanese Ramen cooked and served by Japanese. Comes with a pot of free cold tea.
The ramen is very chewy and the soup is extremely tasty.
I have tried the shoyu ramen and even though the soup is rich in taste, I'm 100% sure it contains very little or even no ajinomoto. (I don't feel thirsty after the meal)
The add on egg is as good as the ramen. Even though the egg white is fully cooked, the egg yolk still remains sticky but soothing to the mouth.
If you are a ramen fanatic or a japanese food lover, you should definitely try this! Opens on weekends so you don't have to squeeze with the working crowd!
If you think that 1 bowl is too big, you can also opt for half bowl which costs slightly more than half the price!
I remember going with my group of friends 2 years ago as a pre christmas celebration.
There were about 10 of us and each of us tried to order a different dish from the rest as much as possible. The menu was comprehensive but we only manage to 6 to 7 different types of dishes.
I remember NONE of the dish tastes right. Even the most basic, the easiest to cook, FISH AND CHIP was HORRENDOUS. After the main dish, I don't even bother to order the EXPENSIVE desserts.
In fact, the cafe says for itself... changing appetite... changes your appetite... Ever since, I have never step into this cafe anymore.
Apologies for being so crude, but this place totally sucks.
For those who might be going to NUS Science faculty, never ever step into this cafe!
Cos the place is small and poorly ventilated BUT air conditioned with the kitchen outside. And it will stink your clothes with all the oil and smell!
If that is not bad enough, it takes a long time to order the food and it takes another few minutes for the food to get ready... so you will stink even more!
Finally about the food... I ordered a MEDIUM steak which costs me $5.50 (an indecent price given that it is in a university) and it took quite awhile for the food to get ready and I guessed they must have overcooked it. I gave them the benefit of doubt and took the food back to my seat.
The moment my knife lands on the beef steak, i guessed it... it's a piece of well done tooth breaking steak... Feeling damn cheated (because there is another fast food stall in the canteen which serves GOOD MEDIUM beef steak at $3 only), i went back to the counter and exposed myself to more smelly FUMES...
i asked the person to recook another piece for me and he complied (maybe this is the only good thing about this cafe)... BUT the results are the same... they gave me a well done piece....
probably you guys will say thats what you expect for a $5.50 steak... but if the $3 steak sold at the canteen can do a medium, why the $5.50 steak can't...

The founders of One Rochester started this One TwentySix... and you bet they can never go wrong with their concept.
Set along the East Coast beach located at the old Big Splash (after the revamp), it lies at one corner, isolated from the rest of the restaurants.. There are 2 choices of seats, brightly lit indoors with see through glass walls or outdoors crouch with live band and outdoor bar (yet to open, official opening on 20 feb)..
It was V-day and they provided set dinners, it was a 8 course dinner that includes...
Bread and butter
Fresh Oysters (it was very bad)
Scallop with egg and truffle oil (must try)
Maguro Pasta (unique)
Soursop Sorbet
Tenderloin Beef (side dishes are special)
Dessert (interesting)
Coffee or Tea
and it costs only $120 per pax with a bottle or red or white wine!
Yah, it may sound quite expensive but the food was extremely good, every dish was unique and special.. and we went back quite full after the food!
The service was ok, it wasn't bad neither it was extremely good but that place is a definite must-try for couples to go there and enjoy the ambience and to stroll along the beach after a hefty dinner. It's also great for chill-out with a large group of friends.... if you guys have run out of ideas where to bring your partners, this would be the place!
