    We used to pass by this place and it is always packed with people either waiting in the queue or busy walking in and out of the main entrance. What we have observed was that although this place serves buffet lunch and dinner, it is the food presentation and the wide varieties of seafood that have attracted the crowd.

    We were able to dine because of last minute cancellation by the previous group. The staff were very attentive by asking us whether they can first serve the complimentary mini “Buddha jumps Over The Wall “- which was basically a broiled soup with sea cucumber, mushroom, chicken meat. It was lightly flavoured and was good enough to warm our stomachs before we eagerly dashed off to pick our choice of food.

    The place was divided into few sections :
    1. Oriental - Steamed baos, pepper crabs, cereal prawns, herbal soups, porridge, Peking duck, satay, deep fried durian fritters, fried rice in bamboo tube
    2. Western – Wheat bread, corn soup sealed with freshly baked bread
    3. Japanese – Teppanyaki, sashimi, sushi, tempura, cold noodles, etc
    4. Seafood – Fresh oysters, steamed prawns, braised mussels, crayfish, roast beef, cheese baked scallops
    5. Desserts – Cakes ( must try ) , cold desserts, yam paste in ginko nuts ( must try ), fondue, fruits, Bird nest egg tarts, ice cream,etc

    This place was spoilt for choices and although our stomach have limited capacity, we managed to try most of the food except for those items that were not replenish fast enough for the diners.

    Price - $50 per pax for dinner

    We were looking for a light meal and happened to pass by this place. Although there was a short queue, the staff told us that we need not wait more than 10mins after handing us our queue number. As we browse through the menu, we got excited and hungry at the same time.

    This Cantonese restaurant is part of the Paradise Group. As we have tried the food served by Paradise Inn, we were confident that this outlet will not fail us. Unfortunately, the place is not brightly lighted and with the dark wall panels, dimmed lights and staff wearing black uniform, it can be quite a challenge to walk to your table.

    Fried Yam Puffs – The exterior part looked a bit over-fried but when we bite a portion of it, we could taste the yam paste and realised that the fillings consist of generous bits of succulent prawns.

    Congee – This was our favourite item as the peanuts were roasted unlike most places where braised peanuts were used. The crunchy peanuts were excellent and the congee was very smooth with bits of cuttlefish and crispy toasted dough fritters ( you tiao )

    Fried Carrot Cake – Looked very simple but when a piece goes into your mouth, it just melt. We preferred this texture as it is not only crispy on the exterior but also allow us to taste the dried prawns and bits of ham that were embedded in each piece.

    Custard Puff – When the staff served this item, she warned us that it is piping hot as it was freshly baked. We were a bit doubtful as most custard puffs are cold and hard. But true enough, when we hold one piece with our hand, both the soft crust and jelly custard just crumbled lightly on the plate.

    Stir Fried Vegetables – This plate of mixed vegetables was a welcome refreshing taste. Not only was it stir fried with garlic only, it also look appetising with the colourful variety of vegetables like celery, lotus root, carrots, fungus and lily bulbs.

    All in all, we were very satisfied with our selections. Service was good as staff were attentive by changing plates and refilling our teas.

      Read a lot of reviews on this place but did not have a chance to try as we were always there on wrong timing, i.e. weekends dinner crowds or during school holidays.

      If not for complimentary tickets to board Singapore Flyer, we doubt we will ever order any food as this place was always packed with both locals as well as tourists.

      We were quite amazed as this place was designed to resemble the 60s where rugged wooden tables and chairs were commonly used in old coffee shops. We also saw familiar street names being displayed to indicate what type of popular food being remembered by diners.

      We decided to try a few stalls to get a taste of the nostalgic childhood of ours.

      Fried Prawn Noodles – We saw a long queue and thought that it must be delicious but while waiting, we noticed that the noodles have already been pre-fried and one guy just took a portion of the noodle from a pot, threw some spoonful of broth, gave it a quick stir and then add in the rest of the ingredients. Instantly, we knew we have chosen the wrong stall.

      Fish Ball Noodles – This is a better bet as the handmade fish balls are big and chewy. The noodles were cooked just nice.. Not too soft or lumpy. The chilli gravy was good too.

      Ice Ball – The stall holder was a bit stingy on the colourful syrup but being a humid day, we don’t mind as what we wanted was to quench our thirst. We saw that some of the soft drinks like Coke or Kickapoo were sold in smaller bottles with a big tin cup which we found it quite memorable as that was how we used to share our bottled drinks with our siblings.

      We also heard old sentimental songs being played and this brought back many old memories that we shared with our grandparents during the kampong days.

        We chanced upon this place as we took the wrong route to Changi Village. When we entered the main car park, we realized that the eateries are open to both members and the public.

        As we trekked cautiously on the walkway, we discovered that this place is actually a sea sports centre where sailing, wind surfing or kayak activities are regularly conducted.

        This place also offers a mix of Indonesian, Chinese and Western restaurants. The best part about this location is that diners can choose to sit near the common wooden platform facing the sea. It was an amazing scene as we happen to witness the sunset.

        We were undecided but finally chose to try this Chinese alfresco zhi char café. The manager, Doris was friendly and helpful as she explained their specialty dishes. We have selected the following :

        1. Steamed Fish in Preserved Radish – The meat was fresh and coupled with the slightly salted radish, it was a good combination.

        2. Homemade Prawn Rolls – The roll was cut into smaller pieces before they were being deep fried. Each piece contained chopped prawns with crunchy water chestnut.

        3. Stir Fried Four Season Beans with Dried Shrimps – more popularly known as Gan Bian Si Ji Dou. The greens are deep fried briefly, thus retaining the fresh crispy texture. The minced dried shrimps that were scattered on top of the dish also made it more appetizing.

        Highly recommend this place to families, especially with children as this is one of the few remaining places in Singapore where we can sit back, relax and enjoy the sea breeze while rejuvenating our spirit. Children can choose to watch numerous planes about to land near Changi Airport or play around the open spaces under the watchful eyes of their parents dining nearby.

        We ordered simple and affordable dishes as we know we could never go wrong with our selection.
        1. Hot Plate Tofu ( Medium size $15.90 ) – The dish came with a sizzling sound and indeed, the silky tofu was embedded between the gravy, preserved vegetables, minced meat, mushrooms and egg. As a whole, this dish was well presented and being slightly spicy, it was just good for our taste buds.

        2. Coffee Pork Ribs ( Medium size $15.90 ) – The meat though well marinated lacked the coffee flavor and we felt that the meat was also a bit dry and tough to chew.

        3. Shrimp Paste Chicken Wings (Medium size $15.90) – This ordinary dish could be found in most hawker centers or coffee shops. Though easy to make, the ones we tasted here do not have that pungent shrimp paste. The outer skins are fried crispy but the meat is moist and tender.

        4. Stewed Pork Belly served with Steamed Bun ( $2.20 per piece ) – This signature dish was the best that we have tasted. Each stewed meat came with one layer of fat followed by one layer of lean meat. Being health conscious, we were contemplating whether we should remove the in-between fats but their elderly staff encouraged us to try without removing the fat. True enough, it was a melt-in-your-mouth feeling. For the first time, all of us woo...ar..shiok!! Surprisingly, we could not differentiate the meat and the fats when we took the first bite.

        This place also serves different kinds of double boiled soups like pork ribs with water cress, black chicken with spare ribs and ginseng,etc, Besides these nourishing soups, it also offers some interesting flower teas like chrysanthemum, jasmine, osmanthus, rose. It is indeed refreshing to drink these aromatic floral teas after all the fried and oily food.

        Overall, we were quite happy with the food and most importantly, prices must be reasonable if Paradise Inn wants to attract more families to dine there.
