While cruising along Neo Tiew Road, we came across this place called D’Kranji Resort Farm. It is more like a chalet type of resort but comes with additional facilities like spa, prawn fishing and locally planted fruits & vegetables farm. There is a beer garden where you could chill out for the evening or an in-house Chinese restaurant which serves pretty good food.

With chalets of different sizes, it caters to families who needed some quality bonding time and discover the kampong spirit of picking up fruits and vegetables from the nearby farm. We understand that the Family Suite consisted of 2 bedrooms and a separate kitchen & dining area. There is also a barbeque pit provided at the backyard. Although the leaftlet mentioned that there is a karoke system in each room, we didn’t hear anybody singing while we were having dinner.

Occasionally, the resort will hold organic farm fairs and even have mini fun fairs showcasing eating, cooking and planting of vegetables and snacks.

Our choice of food came piping hot and we decided to dine outside the restaurant as it was more breezy. Our main dish was the Sri Lanka crabs which was cooked in two ways - chillie gravy and freshly steamed in chopped garlic. Both dishes were delicious.

The fried rice and sambal kangkong were equally tasty. The yam ring basket was rather small but the generous servings of items like mushrooms, chestnuts, cashews and colourful capsicums were spilled over from the centre of the ring basket.

During the whole session of dining, we were entertained by music and singers from nearby beer garden. Indeed, the atmosphere was relaxing and with the cool wind blowing, we have truly enjoyed our dinner.

Karoke has been our past time hobby as it is one of the ways to relax and mingle with our friends. We have also brought our families along as our nieces and nephews also like to sing.

Our friends recommended this outlet as we had our dinner earlier at the food center. Since it is located within walking distance, we decided to take a slow walk to digest our heavy dinner.

When we entered the reception area, it was already freezing cold. We asked the staff whether the rooms will be equally cold, she said yes as this is central air conditioning system.

Before we were shown to our room, the staff handed us a holder containing a few plastic mugs. As they explained, it came to us as a bonus that drinks are free flow. Which means you can help yourself to hot beverage vending machine with cups of freshly brewed teh tarik, cappuccino, latte, etc. There was also a soft drink vending machine located on the same table counter.

The rooms are rather small but clean and decent. It looked like it was recently renovated as the sofa and wall coverings seem to be very new.

As we are familiar with the touch screen panel for searching songs, our friends were happily singing while we took turns to select ours.

Although we enjoyed ourselves, we just couldn’t stand the cold temperature and decided to end our singing session earlier.

We discovered a new Japanese restaurant serving belt sushi on the 3rd floor of Bedok Point. We sat and waited for the belt to go one full round before deciding to order from their ala carte menu. Although price was based on the colour of plate, there were not many items to choose from.

Tori Bibinba ( $14.88 ) - Rice with bits of grilled chicken in hot stone bowl. Similar to Korean bibimbap, we mixed all the ingredients with seaweed, fried egg and sesame seeds. The rice texture is a bit hard but chicken meat is tender and well marinated.

Shake ( $9.38 ) - Salmon sashimi was fresh and delicious although chef could have slice a fatter piece. The item look miserable when served.

Soft Shelf Crab Tempura ( $9.88 ) - The crabs were thinly coated with flour and deep fried in right temperature. We could taste the meat and at the same time, munched on the crispy shell.

Sunshine Maki ( $8.88 ) - Fried crispy prawns rolled together with sushi rice and topped by fresh sweet mango slices.

Shingiku Nabem ( $10.88 ) - By far the most expensive as it is basically a mixed vegetable soup based item.

Service was average as we have a hard time getting the attention of the staff when we needed extra bowls and soup spoons

During the school holidays, we took a short trip to Malacca. In order to maximise our time, we booked the coach leaving at 7.45am and managed to reach Malacca town about noon time.

When the coach dropped us off at the entrance, we were impressed by the simple and class design of this hotel. It is also one of the few establishments that was designated as non smoking on its premises. From the cheerful bell boy to the courteous staff at reception counter, we were being energised by their attitude after a long journey.

The rooms were clean and spacious with 1 set of LCD TV located at bedroom and another set at study room. Besides free wifi and coffee/tea facilities, the hotel also provides complimentary bottled drinking water.

We unpacked some stuff and headed towards the connecting shopping centre ( Hatten Square ) for our lunch. Unfortunately we couldn’t find anything to eat as the shopping centre was not fully occupied yet . Upon checking with the locals, we were told that because most of the restaurants can be found along the main road, this shopping centre decides to cater more for fast food like KFC, McDonalds and Pizza.

As we ended our first day eating at KFC, we decided to check out the 22nd floor sky lounge with the welcome drink voucher. This open aired lounge has an impressive view of Malacca coastal landscape and it was refreshing to see the night skyline.

We have an enjoyable trip and would highly recommend others to try out this hotel. With famous restaurants situated within walking distance and the rich heritage belonging to Peranakan, Portuguese, Dutch and British, this place is worth exploring. The hotel also provides free shuttle bus to some places of interest.

Looking for budget hotels in Jakarta has never been an issue as we know what we are looking for. Unlike Singapore, their budget price is really affordable for most travellers. We liked it because it is new and is away from the busy main road. Some considered it as 3 star hotel but to us, it was a memorable stay.

When you walked into the reception area, it was spacious and well maintained. Being Christmas season means that the place was sparsely decorated with few decorations here and there but at least, they made an effort to put up an unique Christmas tree near the entrance.

Our rooms were clean and bathroom look like any hotel with basic toiletries and rain shower head. Beds were comfortable and with free wifi, we quickly settled down to rest.

Although the room rates comes with breakfast, we were taken aback when we walked into an empty cafe the next morning. Surely at 8am, we expected to see hotel guests having breakfast but there was none. A young service staff ran to greet us upon seeing our surprised looks. He explained that breakfast is ordered from two options i.e. american or local.

Food was served piping hot and we were impressed by the quantity and quality. Staff was attentive to refill our coffee and served us the freshly cut juicy fruits when he noticed that we have finished eating.

We booked a taxi to bring us to nearby shopping centres. There were so many food outlets, cafes and restaurants that it looked more like a food enclave than shopping centre.

We really enjoyed ourselves as far as food and shopping are concerned. On top of all, body massage was relatively cheap and so relaxing that we were contemplating to extend our stay for few more days.
