Been to Timbre (Substation) for a couple of times. An excellent place to chill and hang out with friends. The local live band plays very good music as well. You can actually write your song dedication on paper or servettes requested from the waiters and hear the songs you like
Timbre is famous for their thin crust pizza and they offer a wide selection of toppings. They also have main courses that are both filling and tasty. My personal favourite is their 'Bangers and Mash'. Quality sausages and smooth creamy mashed potatoes.
Went to this restaurant some time back because my girlfriend said she tried the same one at Cineleisure. They do have student meals which is quite reasonably priced. She had the Karage pasta in cream sauce. Tasted okay, very average. I had the Pork burger, which to my surprise, came in a considerably big portion. I was expecting a smaller version as I saw from the menu. Nevertheless, it was a plesant surprise. My girlfriend also insisted on the waffle with ice-cream. Do ask for butter or maple syrup because they will gladly bring over to you. Total bill came out to be around $36 for 2 pax. Pretty reasonable. Will go back some day.
Been to Aston's at Serangoon Gardens for 3 times and decided to do a review on it after having lunch with a friend on a week day.
Fried Fish / Coleslaw / Onion Rings The fried fish came very crispy and thin. Reminds me of Fish & Chips from Uno beef house. The crispiness is probably the selling point of their fried fish. The coleslaw is very fresh, with adequate amount of sauce used. But the onion rings seemed to be over-fried. Very crispy, too crispy in fact. Could not really taste the onion beneath the batter.
Pork Chops / Mashed potatoes / House salad 2 slab of pork chops that was grilled and topped with their sauce. The meat was exceptionally good near the bones, juicy and tender. The mashed potatoes is average, big portion but the sauce was a little unsufficient. House salad is always my choice of a side dish, we need the greens to complete our meal. Good variety of vegetables used for theirs.
Did not need to wait for seats the first 2 times I went but this time I had to. Perhaps it is getting more popular. Low prices with quality food. A must try.
Apart from the Spa treatment at House, they also do serve delicious food at their in-house restaurant, called 'Camp'. Very good ambience, great place to chill with friends espcially at night. Happy hours from 5pm - 9pm, which they serve free flow of fries with every drink purchase, if I am no mistaken. Below is a short review of what I had for tea-time the other day with a few friends.
American Sliders ($22) Came from the lunch time menu. Highly recommended by the restaurant and also the biggest picture on the menu. Bascially 2 mini beef burgers (I ordered for Medium done as usual), with your choice of ingredients and comes with fries and Fried Sweet potatoes. Could not remember the other options, but I chose 'Bacon & cheese' for my mini burgers. Turned out to be a good choice. The Medium done beef was grilled to perfection and the Bacon & Cheese made the burger very flavourful. Could easily have 4 of these mini burger. The fries was sprinkled with sea salt which taste very different from the usual fries you eat outside. The fried Sweet Potatoes coated with sugar.
Strawberry Shortcake $9.50 A hit with the girls. They love the soft cake which is very similar to a bread pudding. The taste of strawberry is very rich and definitely best eaten when it is warm. Did not taste too sweet and it comes with a special sweet milky-like sauce which i suspect is probably condensed milk. The sauce complements the cake very well.
Tea ($6.00 or $7.00 per pot) Each of us had a pot of tea, with many different flavours to choose from. Very ideal if you are planning to spend the afternoon with friends or love ones, chatting and connecting with them. Clear descriptions given on the menu on what ingredients each tea possess and you can also ask the waitress there for recommendation
Great place to hang out and with good ambience. Could be a little pricey and location might be a problem for those not driving. Shuttle bus is provided up to Dempsey hill from various location in town, adults priced @ $1.40 and children @ $0.80. Will definitely find a chance to check out their Happy hour promotion.
Went to Timbre @ The Arts House last friday and found the place to be quite a good place to 'Chillax'. The live band on that day was pretty good as well. Take note, if you want to dedicate any song or simply have a message to someone read out, just ask the waiter or waitress for a pen and write it on the servette and hand it over to them. The drinks were pretty much average priced for places like this. Also, Timbre is famed for its thin crust pizza, each at about $17 if I'm not wrong. 1 Pizza should be for 2 - 3 person. The place gets packed very quickly and would recommend going earlier. I went at about 10 pm and had to sit outside, with the risk of it raining. However, end up it turn out to be quite nice to sit outside where you can see the live band clearly due to the high chairs and also it is less noisy den inside, which makes it easier to have conversations with friends. Overall, a great place to hang out with friends. Do visit their website for more details on reservations and also promotions going on each day.
