The thing that caught me and 3 other friend's attention to head into White Dog Cafe and Vivocity was the price of the beers that they were offering for all day long. $3.50 for a Tiger, $5 for Heineken and $6 for Kilkenny's. We headed in and stayed for 5 rounds of beer. In addition to that, we had lots of side dishes to go along the way. Wedges, Garlic bread, sauteed mushrooms, pizza, mexican wings and a few others. I have to say the food was actually better than I expected. Bill chalked up to about $50 per pax but it was well worth it for the amount of drinks and food.
Managed to book online through a 3rd party website for 1 night stay at the Carlton Hotel, situated along bras basah road. The stay was actually to celebrate our 3rd year anniversary and I called up the hotel 1 day before our stay to inform that of it and I was told that a fruit basket and flowers will placed in the room. Indeed, there was a fruit platter and a couple of stalks of orchid at the table upon arrival. Although I was expecting something more, it was sufficient. The room is neat and clean. Furthermore, we had a corner unit and the it turn out to be very spacious. However, some items like bedroom slippers was not in the room and had to be requested. I have to say that the service of the housekeeping was efficient. The only down side was the state of the TV. The sound was faulty and the visuals is rather poor too. Time to change to a LCD TV i guess. Overall, a very good experience and very worthwhile at a price of $150 (inclusive of taxes). Good location as well, only a stone throw away from Raffles City. Defintely a good choice of a city getaway for locals.
This restaurant seemed to be little known but it serverd pretty good food. Had dinner there and they are famed for their fish and chips, with many different choices of fish to select from. They also have very good appetizers/starters that has a portion suitable for ladies with small appetite or simply for someone who just want a small meal. Tried the 'Barred cod fish with beer batter' fish and chips. Decent and very evident taste of cod which I love. Also the pork loin and prok belly with caramelised apples (both comes under appetizers). Not as oily as I expected and the pork belly is a very popular dish there. All in all, good service, good setting, good food and good beer (little creatures beer are available, bright ale and pale ale).
4 of my friends and I were treated to Hi-Tea at Carousel, Royal Plaza Hotel which was next to DFS galleria. It was my 1st time there for a buffet and it turned out pretty well
The food I have to say there was sufficient variety of food and quite a few local fares, including nasi lemak, carrot cake, laksa, etc. My vote have to be given to the laksa which I had 2 servings. The portion given each time was not alot, but it tasted very fragrant and smooth. The amount of prawn, fish cake and chilli is chosen by yourself. The noodles in the laksa was springy too. They also have chicken kebab which is juicy but a tad too oily. The sashimi choices was pretty limited but they have a salad corner that looked impressive.
Dessert The chocolate fondue was defintely my favourite. Wide choices of fruits and marshmellows dipped in smooth creamy chocolate. Great! For non chocolate lover, they also do have lots of cakes, local or non local, which taste pretty good as well. Another top choice would be the warm bread pudding topped with vanilla sauce. And there is the usual ice dessert from the ice-making machine and hot pulut hitam and cheng teng.
Service Good service but the bill came a little too early for my liking. Hot tea/coffee and ice water was offered upon seating. One of the waitress did topple my friend's ice water and we were shifted to another table immediately.
All in all, a very good experience with my pals where we can sit down to catch up, enjoy good food and company. Bill came out to approx $140 (after OCBC card 15% discount) for 5 pax.
Went to Cedele @ Raffles City for a quick bite at around 2pm. The place wasn't crowded at that time, which was lucky because the seats was quite limited.
I tried the 'salad, sanwich, drink' combo. I had the Rosemary chicken sandwich, with the Oatbran bread. The filling was defintely good and healthy. Generous portions of steamed chicken, lettuce, tomatoes and I think a special sauce which I could not figure out what was it. Anyhow, it tasted good. The salad I chose was a mix of the 'Burmese Shan Tofu' and 'Red and Russet Potato', which you have to specially request as they usually dish out only one type. The portion was sufficient and it also makes one feel healthy eating it. Take note that the 'Red and Russet potato' contain celery which may not be to your liking, although the taste was very mild.
Also, they have different menu for their salads daily so do check it out. The drink was just ordinary iced tea, and there was a choice of coffee, tea, or orange juice.
3 items for $14.80 was pretty worthwhile and it definitely was a hearty and healthy meal. Will be back to give other sandwiches and salads a try.
