Long Travellator at Bugis Interchange   Train Door   dsc_3379.jpg   dsc_3377.jpg   dsc_3378.jpg
I've always wanted but never had a chance to ride on the newly opened Downtown line until today and it was good, fast and a comfy ride. Though only 6 stations, this driver-less train I must say travelled at a much faster speed and no dangerous jerks that causes commuters to fly around and stack on one another.

I boarded at Chinatown, it was a short walk from the purple line and from the station. The entry point is pretty near for those interchanging or fresh entry from the station. Ample seats with good aircon breeze and the smell of spanking newness...

The train arrived in a good 3 mins and it was a little off lunch time so perhaps i'm still in the lunch time segment with more trains to cater for the hungry crowd. Doors were wide and as I entered the spacious cabin, a cheery mood struck. Perhaps its the matching overhanging handles and the plasticky seats in pop fluorescent colours or the pretty looking "reserved" seat signs. The colours and the pop art looking designs really lifted my mood.

The seats were slightly wider with less contours at the side, so for wider bums, it is more comfy and felt extremely spacious. Though I counted lesser seats in a cabin. 7 per row with 2 reserved (we used to have 7 or more per row in the older cabins) and we used to have another 2 rows of 2 by the door, now that has been removed to make way for more standing space. So be sure to strengthen those leg muscles and that may provide more excuses to exercise.

In less than 10 mins I've arrived at bugis in style, hair not messy, shirt not sweaty and most importantly, nobody shoved me around.
I started to make my way to the outlet near to the East West Green Line and after I made a turn at the corridor I met with another corridor, this time much much longer with a travellator as it is really far i guess.... so after about 5 mins or more ( i kinda lost count) of walk i finally took an escalator up to hit the main hall of the East West Line. It was quite a long walk and it smelt of fresh concrete with cement though it has been already about 3 months since its opening.

The downtown line ride was comfy and good, though at some points i guess you might have to walk a long way, but its generally faster and less congested. I hope it stays this way, I love my country and staying here.

    Convenience: 4/5

    Handicap Friendly: 4/5

Cleanliness: 3/5 (Its clean because its new but i hardly spot a rubbish bin, and for long corridors like this, no toilets is pretty tough for the older people and small children, not as though they will pee and poo inside but accidents is inevitable sometimes)

Service: 3/5 ( I didn't get much from the staff there, matter of fact I don't see any till at the station control)

Ambience: 4/5 (Nice and cheery in the train)

If you would really enjoy a whole roast duck or have an event to bring on the whole roasted pig complete with red flower in its ears, this is the place to be. Yan Chuan is famous for whole roasted duck, roasted chicken, roasted pork and Char Siew.

Its more a take away shop, especially crowded during chinese new year and festive occassions when these delectable meats are what many look out for during festive meals. I mean, you can never find roasted poultry as yummy as these right from the oven. Its no frills and prices are great. I mean $16 for a whole roasted duck is what i call "have another on me"! Matter of fact we love everything about the shop... it brings very much the chinese culture.

First when you approach the shop the aroma of roasted meats hits you and you quicken your steps... Nothing much about the shop with plenty of standing space with a few staff one on the chopping board, one packing another packing stuffs to the display cabinet and one at the cashier. So you decide what you want to have by salivating at the large display cabinet littered with hanging ducks, pork, chicken and charsiew soaked and dripping in precious animal oil, order and pay at the cashier and go over to the other side to collect your order.

The experienced staff with the chopper with pick your favourite duck and chop it up with such skill and tack that you have your drums whole and the duck looked decent with all the ugly parts removed... packed into a Styrofoam box and bagged with some chilli. The duck is still warm when i got home and boy, the skin crispy, meat juicy and if you wanna buy some egg crepes, you can even make your own peking duck wrap with some sweet sauce and veg.

The roast meat is another dish I love. $10 for half KG of roast pork is alot to eat and much more to share. Crispy and a good layer of meat littered by narrow layers of fats is what I call a good proportion. Its savoury and goes superbly with beer.

The roast pig, $99 for a baby one has crispy skin with very lean meat. I mean you get the whole pig including the head the throttles which are so hard and tiny you can't eat. So usually we will eat up the crispy skin with some lean meat intack with sweet sauce and the head chopped up further to fry with noodles... Best Ever...

Service is pretty fast i must say and professional though not the smiling and friendly kind, you just wanna take and go...

Location: 2/5 (not easy to find if you are not farmiliar with the place)
Value: 4/5 (Superb Value, you can not find cheaper in that area)
      Food: 4/5 (Yummy and fresh)
Service: 4/5 ( I must say fast and straight to the point)
Hygiene: 4/5 (The floor is not too oily, acceptably clean, I spotted acceptably clean aprons, gloves and money and food handled separately and most importantly, the packaged handed to me is clean and not oily, good enough for the car seat)

I will definitely return, and intro my friends!

If you love the carefully decorated, petite and mouth watering pastries, this is just the place to be in. Pastries made by the finest ingredients from Japan, I mean who imports flour from Japan otherwise the finest patisserie chef in Singapore putting his heart in every masterpiece of these delicious and beautiful looking edible artworks. Yes, I find their cakes just like art works, so intricately designed and made me eat them in small bites.

Though the breads are great, however nothing draws me to the shop more than the cake cabinet. Though the choices weren't too many yet every cake you feel like you wanna buy. The cakes were pretty, not the colourfully confusing pretty yet the clean cuts, non-clashing colours, soothing and charmingly pretty kinda pretty. While i salivated and logically disputed in my brain which cake to buy back for my beloved old man at home i read each description carefully and the fight ended with this two. Yuzu Cream Cheesecake or the pumpkin montblanc and guess who won?

MontBlanc because of its light texture and honey glazed chestnuts which I deemed a very ancient taste that suited the older ones yet with a refreshing young twist. The cake was small while the cake box was HUGE... matter of fact everybody had a shock when the cake was reviewed. A group of 6, all had a good 1 inch thick slice. I must say the chestnut and blueberries on top was yummy, especially the chest nut. The cake was not too creamy and of the right texture while the cream not too sweet nor too oily. The cake was also filled with a thicker cream which tasted a little nutty and was very mild. The cake was pretty and yummy tasting with layers of flavour emerging while we devour the cake hungrily.

Service was good and the staff was friendly. Selections for bread are many and I'm quite sure I will be back to try more.

Spotted MOSES while walking via the OLD WAY (citylink mall) towards Suntec from Raffles City. I must say its not visually attractive perhaps because of its uninteresting deco and clear glass shelves, as well as themeless retail items. However what really caught my eye was the SAMSUI women dolls which I must say speaks alot about my hakka heritage. The shop sells lots of stuffs, mainly lifestyle products and some accessories, the items are pretty jumbled up, which is also nice because only at such shops, you can find something truly special and unique.

The dolls comes in different sizes and some big enough to be an art piece on display and some so tiny it can fit into your keychain. I stepped in because I wanted to see more and the friendly staff smiled while she slowly introduced the various items and how they were being made, the significance and its story.

I begin to appreciate each individually handmade items with a sense of bewilderment. I can never imagine individuals with psychiatric disabilities could have such concentration to construct the fine details of the various pieces here. Somehow I guess this is a fabulous project as it not only provides a purpose for them to exercise and learn a skill, it also provides revenue and helps the society to accept them like a regular individual. Though the items on display were not many and some accessories are pretty pricey, yet its for a good course. So if you happen to drop by, be sure to come in and you never know... You might find something interesting and truly unique.

A classic departmental stores that sells everything from socks to yummy snacks. Yes, they have been popping up almost everywhere and has always got something for me.

If you are looking for good quality (used to be all good but now there were some changes) clothings with great cut and materials, this is the place to go. With jeans from ladies uk size 6 to 18, anybody even your great aunt can buy a piece from here. Though the styles are usually more western cultured and not as exciting, the basics are great. Men's shirts on the other hand has got great cuts and textiles. Be sure to check out the blazer and jacket section and for that casual day out, the "blue harbour" collection comes complete with berms, linen short sleeved shirts and even socks if you want to wear them with boat shoes. Sizes are extremely versatile and cut charming.
Everything fashionable from undergarments to outer coats with complimenting accessories such as shoes, heels for ladies, belts, ties and all available.

We don't call this a one stop if they don't carry toiletries. The shower gels, facial care, skin care and room aroma products neatly stacked on shelves resembles jewel glittering from a distant. Nicely designed premium bottled with shiny liquids, some milky some a shiny clear coloured liquid that smelled heavenly. There is a good variety of scent to choose from and like i always say, do not buy a huge bottle as after a while the scent might grow stale on you as such always good size with a large variety of different smell. The 200ml bottled size is still a little large for me as such I always purchase a few scent to use it at the same time. Some invigorating for mornings, refreshing for after workouts and sensual for the hot summer's night. One thing I also really like is the scented drawer linings in which you don't get to buy them as easily here in Singapore and loved the way the linings makes my clothing in the drawing smell wonderful. No more damp and moldy aged smell in my drawers.

Food was a superb selection of premium ingredient packed goodies and I must say mostly healthy. You can find exotic candies and my favourite Percy PIG collection of gummy. Interesting bakery biscuits and christmas pastries (YES Christmas they do stock the most interesting stuffs) but their food stuffs especially the speciality holiday mood ones are extremely expensive like $42 for a tin of cookies kinda ex. Few things I think is fairly priced and very yummy. 1) The chocolate digestives made of varied types of chocolate. - my fav dark chocolate. 2)mini flans with a gel centered - i kinda forgot what they are called usually sold individually or in a pack of 3 boxes, they have blueberry and raspberry flavoured. You cannot miss them and they are so delicious we can finish all 3 boxes in a day, no kidding. 3) the tea selections, their tea and coffee and mostly fairtrade and used great ingredients. You will love the special blends they have like the one I love is the DETOX blend. 4) Triple chocolate breakfast cereal is a heavy box of goodness muesli and whatever low GI stuffs with loads of chocolate in 3 varieties. YUMMY and reasonably priced.
