    6. Cotton On (Wisma)

ahh yes. finally a vintage-inspired retail branding that doesn't bring TOPMAN into mind. I remembered passing by this rather peculiar sounding shop and going 'it better turn ME on'. and it did !

Some of the tees i got at the wisma outlet were one of a kind. (although by now, i suppose singaporeans would be smart enough to catch the value of this store). The unbeatable prices, the never-ending discount corners, and lo-and-behold, the beautiful salesgirls. :)

Sometimes, you walk into a store not expecting a surprise. But with Cotton On, EXPECT a surprise. One of the vintage tees i got was apparently made in Bangladesh ! I don't know about you, but i find it quite amusing.

Do yourself a favour and walk into CottonOn, (PS or Wisma), and you'd definitely want to grab yourself something. Be it the $15 tee, the $5 flip flops, the $20 shades.. trust me.. you'd WANNA get something unique.

Oh...and if you're going with your girl, bring extra cash. Its apparently got a hypnotic effect on ladies. (my wallet went $100 poorer at PS outlet)

Overall, a cute unique retail outlet which deserves some talking about.

      7. Plaza Singapura

      Category: Malls
Plaza Singapura..or PS as we youngsters would normally refer it to. Its one of the malls in Singapore that is not exactly huge, yet never fails to attract crowds hour. This is probably because of the fact that the mall stands in between two mrt lines, alot of office spaces, and an en-route to orchard road-city hall.

A typical Singaporean mall, PS boasts an entire basement area with food stalls. Japanese,Korean,American..u name it they got it. The top floor is an ever crowded weekend spot for cinema-goers. (an arcade hardcores) In between, electronic stores galore, fashion outlets everywhere, cd shops, a carrefour supermarket and even a Times bookstore.

PS is a place for everyone. I find it filled with students, aunties, uncles, grannies, maids, working adults, ang mohs and at times.. celebrities. The main draw about PS is that it holds so much of a variety within the mall. You can't get sick of it. (unless you work there..perhaps)

I would recommend Plaza Singapura as a stop if you ever decide on watching a movie, chilling for a coffee, or looking for something cheap at Carrefour.. simply because, you would most likely end up leaving the mall with more things than you initially wanted to buy. (unless you're the kind that leaves the wallet with your grandma)

However, to be fair. i'd have to say that i got utterly disappointed with the fact that... THERE IS NO TOILET ON LEVEL ONE !
I had to rush to the 2nd level to get to the toilet to relief myself and by the time i got there, the cubicles are all closed and there were a few good men standing in queue outside the cubicles with excruciating red faces and locked arses! For a while, i thought i had to get tickets.

Nevertheless, PS is still one of my favourite malls in town for its variety of shopping ideas :)

Art friend is a convenient, fairly sized art supermarket located right smack between bugis and city hall.

i find Art Friend a rather intimidating store. Its one of those stores that scare me. I used to walk in there, to 'see-see' and i would get lost finding what i initially wanted. ( It doesn't help either that the cashiers prefer to stay by their cash register and their sales assistants prefer staying by their counters. )
I would usually end up like a lost deer and along with a few other lost deers in the store walking to and fro trying to figure out what we actually wanted.

The layout of the store isn't world-acclaimed. ( i used to believe the items were arranged by a drunk artist ) Yet, the simple warehouse-kinda shelves makes it all the more.. unique. Its an artist's warehouse stocked full with a variety of items, from beads..to boxes.. to canvases, all types of paper (toilet papers excluded..but then again ..), brushes, pens, pencils.. loads of everything.

One thing to note though. I bought a few brushes, pencils, an A4 canvas pad and a kneadable eraser.. and i paid about 50bux for it all !
      Was i shocked ? No.

If you consider yourself an artist, (aside from being in the real world still), try being in an art-shop owner's shoe. How many amongst us Singaporeans could even draw a perfect circle in the first place ?
Art business is hard business. But when you can finally draw your first perfect circle and sell it for a thousand bux. It suddenly looks easy.

Go to Art Friend with an open mind. Purchase what you need, and not what you want. That way, your wallet won't be groaning as much as you'd usually spend your night away getting drunk.

All in all, its one of the places you should go to get your art stuff, if the mama shop under your void deck doesn't stock up on drawing blocks :)

ah yes.. cafeela. This is one place i'd recommend.
Crispy prata.. with sambal .. ooo.
I am so used to this place, the uncle knows me too ! thats good service if i know one !

I work near jalan kayu, and i'd work through the night shift. So, by 3-4am, me and my team would get really hungry and scour the island for food. And jalan kayu would be our natural source of prata and sambal.

The coffee there isn't as sweet as most coffee shops too. Its a nice quiet coffee house and it's very well kept too.

I heard that this is one of the more popular coffee houses in jalan kayu.

But if you ever happen to pass by the place sometime in the future, take my word for it... try the prata with their sambal.
You would never get enough of it !

And get the milo dinosaur while you're at it !!! :)

I just had my latte at Starbucks in Raffles City just now. I must say i'm a tad disappointed.
I used to get my latte every morning before work and every evening after work from another Starbucks outlet. But i decided to get one from Raffles City today.
      As you can tell, i'm a coffee-person.

I was disappointed in the service at Raffles City just now, because of a couple of reasons. The place was not so crowded, there were places to sit. However, the tables weren't cleared ! So there were people sitting on the couches, but holding their cup of coffee, just because the tables weren't cleared !

It's disappointing to see such service from my favorite coffee-maker.

Besides that, i would normally receive a friendly smile and a cheerful voice behind the counter taking my order. This time was a little less different, though i shan't be making a fuss over it because who knows? the girl might have had a bad day. :)

My coffee wasn't well done either. A little bitter.

My overall conclusion is... i better stick to my usual starbucks outlet. .. at least until Raffles City gets its act together. :)
