This was my first time trying Botak Jones.

    We had the
    - Fish & Chips
    - Cajun Chicken
    - Beef sausage
    - Cheese Burger

The Fish & Chips came with the fries & the coleslaw. The fish was breaded. Ultra thin slices. They were not even full slices. Feels like regular dory sliced laterally. Too thin to feel the texture or even taste anything. Fries were quite normal.. not exactly hot. The tar tar sauce tasted very rich. Too rich & seems like a lot of garlic in it. Didn't use much of that. Generally a disappointing dish. (I must say that Aston's did a much better job on this)

The Cajun Chicken was huge. The top coat was fully covered with mix of sauce & cheese. When you slice it down, it seems to be 2 slices joined together cos it sort of fell apart. I was surprised that its chicken breast. It wasn't totally dry. But I shd say that its fairly successfully cooked chicken breast.

The Beef sausage was the first dish to arrive. We liked the onions that came with it. Like what it is described, it snaps when you slice it. We ordered this as a whole, on its own (told them not to slice it). However, I had to constantly spit out the skin (pork casing). Not too saltish as a whole.

The Cheese Burger looks pretty good. I tasted the patty, it was quite tasty. My friend asked for more fries.. but the amount of fries looked the same as our other 2 dishes.

I personally do not like the coleslaw from Botak Jones. I think they used way too much mayonaise. Very sick of it after a short while. I much preferred what Astons did.

Think because of the amount we ordered, we were Very Full after the meal. I will not have the Fish & Chips again. Its very disappointing. Ultra thin slices.

Finally tried Aston's Express @ bedok. It is situated in the coffeeshop diagonally across from the NTUC Supermarket.

I went there in a group of 5 on a weekday afternoon around late lunch time. The coffeeshop was still rather packed. There were groups of office workers, mostly Aston's customers. We quickly ordered the food while waiting for a table.

When a table was free, the friendly Aston's staff promptly came by to clear the plates and stuff. Not long after, our food came. The stall manager, Billion, was very friendly and told us of their plans to provide delivery to the nearby offices, in the near future.

We ordered a chargrill chicken ($5.50), 3 steaks ($10.50 each) and 1 pork chop ($8.50). There was also a variety of sides. The chargrill chicken was nice. Could taste the grilled taste despite the mushroomy sauce on top. The steak (Medium) & pork chop were also pleasant.

The sides were great. The coleslaw (although not cold) came in generous servings, so did the fries. The fries were the skinny type, sprinkled with some orangy powder, like Cajun fries. Those who had the greens were happy with their sides too.

On the whole, service was great. Food was also great.

         Carrot Cake
You can find sinful carrot cake here. This stall sells a few varieties of Carrot cake. The Normal type ($2.50) and the prawn type as well as the squid type.

The normal type is an all time favourite. Available in both Black & White, I prefer the black version. They use the dark soya sauce that it rather thick, resulting in a sticky carrot cake. Do try the version with some chilli. Its heavenly. What I especially like is the tiny bits of carrot cake. The man tends to chop up the carrot cake so you can get a lot of tiny bits along with some chunkier ones. They are quite generous with the salty veg too.

The carrot cake is not served with garnish like spring onion / parsley.

The stall holders are friendly and their service is fast. They normally open rather early in the morning (around 9?) & close by 7 -8pm when they are sold out.

From my experience, I believe they are closed on (some) sundays.

Located in Bedok Interchange Food Centre, right next to the Hup Lee (Nasi Lemak), I doubt it has any relation to Hup Lee. The signboard only has the name "HUP".

Hup sells stew duck rice / noodles & porridge. The duck is nice and tender. THe chilli is great. You must try the wet chilli. Apparently, there are 2 types. They will normally give the drier one but do ask for the other one as well. The wet chilli has quite a lot of garlic and is rather sourish, thus adding a very nice taste to the duck rice.

Another fav is the duck noodle. It is the equivalent of the beef noodles. The sauce is rather thick and very tasty. It comes with herbal tasting soup.

Its been a long time since I tried this. My past experience with this stall has been great. Char Kway Teow with a lot of cockles. However, I do remember one occasion whereby the noodle was not well fried. The standard was really off. Haven't gone back since then.

Will love to try it again.

        :)
