After visiting Nippon Koi Farm, I drop by at Qian Hu fish farm since it is just a min drive away.
Similar to Mainland, they carry a variety of accessories. In fact, it might be the biggest stockkist for aquarium accessories in Singapore.
There are many glass tanks in one big hall displaying various type of tropical fishes and Arowana. There is another hall besides it displaying all the aquarium accessories.
There is a hall equip with many concrete ponds keeping Kois, gold fish and some other tropical fishes. The Koi is of the lowest quality. There use to have big butterfly black gold fish in the pond but I see none of it now.
In short, I only like the Arowana here. Although there are places specialise in Arowana, you can pay a visit here if you are a hobbist for Arowana.
It has been quite sometimes I did not visit Nippon Koi Farm. Ever since the economy went bad, many Koi hobbists stop buying expensive Koi and many farm stop bringing in new Koi from Japan. I revisited the farm yesterday because there was an arrival of Koi lately.
To my disappointment, I did not see any adult koi except some baby Koi in the blue tanks. May be they were sold or added into the various concrete ponds already. But I did see one beautiful Koromo ( about 20cm ) in one of the blue tank belongs to the customer.
As it was quite late, I have no chance to look at the Koi in the concrete ponds. I believe Nippon supplies genuine Japan breeds Koi. I will have to come back again to take a good look at the various ponds and hope to be able to spot some nice pieces.
I used to frequent this farm and spent the afternoon of Saturday or Sunday just to look at the fishes. There are many small ponds build with concrete wall or fibre tanks and a big mug pond. There are aquarium fish, koi and fish commonly found in market. Although not much variety, if you look carefully amongst the few hundred Kois, you can still spot some nice Japanese Koi here. I like to bargain with the owner Mr Yeo, the father and son. They are approachable and easy to deal with. Buying a koi is different from buying a gold fish. Koi has no fixed value, it become expensive when you like it. Therefore, bargaining is a must.
There is also a children playground for kids to run about and feeding koi. You can do fishing and buy some seafoods for dinner as well. All this, I believe cannot be easily found elsewhere.
I like the atmosphere here as compared to other farms because the owners are friendlier and the prices are reasonable. Besides, they do 'give face' to regular customer by offering some small discount. ( Unlike Mainland, strictly no discount ) The only problem is the location being too remote and not accessible without own transport.
EastGear is an excellent shop for photography accessories needs. They are extremely popular for the 3rd party camera lithium batteries they carry. They also carry lots of rechargeable AA/AAA batteries and chargers, including the famous MAHA/PowerEX brand.
They recently shifted from Peninsula Plaza to Horne Road, which is very near Lavender MRT.
Although the shop assistants all seem to look a little intimidating to me at first, they all end up quite willing to help. Definitely not the usual "ah beng" attitude in most Sim Lim Square shops.
Their price are really competitive and they carry a pretty wide range of products. One of the more reputable photography shops around.
After visiting Qian Hu, I think MainLand is not the biggest stockist for aquarium accessories. It does carry a large variety of accessories, fishes, koi and fish foods. Accessories from tank setup to Koi Pond setup. The fish food from very small package for Gold fish to very large package for big Koi. If you are looking for very big quantity of Koi food such as 15 kg package, then this is the only place for it. Other places will probably carry up to 5kg package.
It has plenty of aquarium fishes displayed in glass tanks. But nothing special. There are many cement ponds with Koi, but I believe they are all local Koi. I do not see any nice Koi at all. If you are serious about Koi, I don't think this is the right place for it.
However, this is a very good place to look for pumps or water filtration equipments. They may not be the cheapest but I am sure you can find something you like here.
Parking is not a problem here. Kids may also like this place because the area is huge and the kids can enjoy feeding koi at the pond side.
One of the best known shopping mall in Singapore! It's huge, but yet it seems easy to find your way around. There are all kinds of shops here so almost anything can be found.
If you are a foreigner who is going to visit Singapore, this is a mall that you should drop by.
Great Vietnamese food at affordable prices. I like the spicy and sour seafood soup (cost about $4 for a small bowl), full of bits of fish, prawn, squid and seafood. The spicy and sour flavours are not too strong. Gets your appetite going. It has more than 100 items on the menu so eat till your hearts content. Pho Bo, Pomelo Salad, Fresh Spring roll and all your vietnamese favourites.
Nice ambience and classy place with good peranakan food. Portions are reasonably sized. Ideal for family dinners or if you are bringing guest savour Peranakan Cuisine.

I've only been there once. I don't own a dog, but if I do, I'm sure I'll keep going back.
Their food and accessories prices are supposedly very competitive, especially when you are a member.
They have an impressive dog run too, where dog lovers would bring their babies here to let them socialize.
