To begin with, I was totally amazed at how they charge! On their signboard you'd see that their noodles come in 2 prices, $2.50/$3. I wanted to order a bigger bowl, so I asked for $3 wanton mee, only to realize that $3 does not mean more noodles and char siew, but it means "do you want more noodles or more char siew?" I really cannot believe this actually happens! And from the noodles I ordered, it seems like a bowl of $3 noodles can fill up your tummy only as much as the $2.50 one.
Plus, their char siew is bad. It just tasted like pork and nothing else, with not even a single bit of that sweet-sauce-taste at all. From the meat itself, you can actually tell that the char siew was not very well marinated, if that's how you describe it. And there was really very minimal number of slices of meat..
The chilli was bad too. I don't quite know how to describe it but it didn't go with the noodles at all. I like my noodles spicy, but by adding that chilli I think I made my noodles less edible.
But there's one good thing about this place, that is the fried wanton they sell. It's very crispy and tasty and you actually can get a bowl of it as a side dish, at a price as much as a bowl of noodles..
But actually, I do suggest that if you’re nearby and are craving for noodles, you might wanna spend a bit more time queueing at the fishball noodles shop that’s diagonally opposite. It's more value for money, better quality and more filling.
This place sells more traditional Chinese food but cooked in a "modern" style. The dish they're most famous for is the Samsui Chicken! Of course we ordered that, and that definitely was the best dish at my table. I like the fact that the meat was soft and tender and the dish was not oily. Not even the skin! The skin has this smooth texture and feels very nice in your mouth. Because the dish isn't oily, it doesn't feel like you're actually eating fat (Yes, not like those that you get from chicken rice stalls outside)! The dish comes with this ginger sauce made by the restaurant which enhances the taste of the wonderful chicken!
Another good dish would be the Hometown Tofu. If I'm not wrong, it's one of the popular dishes there too. And I have only one word to say, good! The Tofu is slightly fried and so the skin on the outside is slightly crispy but when you put it in your mouth, the white soft Tofu literally melts in your mouth! I really like that. Plus the Tofu is complemented by this soyasauce-like gravy which is very tasty. It's somewhat like eating Agedashi Tofu. Haha!
On the whole, I enjoyed my meal but there is one dish that I feel is not very worth the money and that is the Dong Po Rou. It was a promotional item and cost $13.80. Promotion items always seem to look good right, and so we ordered that too. But I didn't quite like it. The only different is that they have to put in much effort to cut the meat into thin slices and roll it up to look nice. But at the end of the day, it was just 4 pathetic rolls of meat with 4 small fried buns, and it tasted very ordinary. like our home-cooked black soyasource port, only too sweet.
As for the interior, it it nicely decorated with the settings of an ancient China's restaurants. Quite interesting. Just that the place is rather cramp..
I'd give this place a 3.5 actually. But I guess I'd round it down..
I'm not exactly a vintage fan, but I was just exploring the shops in Haji Lane and when I went into this shop, I was actually pretty amazed, I must say. The common trend now is vintage, however the question is, how much are people into vintage now? And also, how vintage are those who are into it? I've seen a lot of people who dress in a pretty vintage manner, but I call that the "modern vintage". I think you'll really know what I mean when you actually step into this shop and see what vintage really is like!
The shop sells mainly vintage dresses that are brought in from places like Australia if I'm not wrong.
The sales people in the shop are quite friendly too. They actually offer their customers drinks! It's actually the first time I've seen that.
I can't quite comment on the quality of the designs of those dresses because I'm not into vintage stuff, but I do think that this would be a good place for people who are into vintage! (:
I guess we can't do much when I place is old. It's just old. Nonetheless, my experience there a couple of weeks back wasn't too bad. I was in Lido 2. It could have been because I didn't notice, but there wasn't a particular stench that I sensed. If I'm not wrong, Lido 2 could be one of the bigger cinemas? It does have rows A to O (or so).
Apart from the individual cinema, I think there is something nice about the place in general too. It's like a mini gallery of it's own, with posters hanging around the level. It kinda sends you back in time with the display of major blockbuster films shown over the years, and famous stars who have visited the place. It's something special that you don't see at EngWah/ GV.
For that, I think, despite the possible smell which I think most places would have eventually, Lido is quite special actually (:
Just another heartland mall, you may think. But I kinda like this place for the fact that it's kinda different from most heartland malls around. It's a new mall after all, so there's definitely room for a greater and more trendy design.
There are tons of shops here that cater to almost anyone and everyone! But one thing that was quite disappointing, I felt, was that there weren't many eating outlets around. I figured it could be because there were too many around the area already, so they might have just focused more on the shops than the food outlets.
The basement level was quite a messy level to be at. You could end up walking in circles and not knowing that until you recognize the shops around. This could be because they have those little stalls situated right smack in the middle of the walking area between the two rows of shops at the sides. But from the 1st level on, things look abit more organized.
I didn't see anything beyond the 2nd level. I think they're lacking a supermarket actually! Or it'll be just nice for heartlanders (: (Or do they have one? Because I don't remember seeing it =x But maybe they have it nearby, so it's not necessary.. =s )
On the whole, I'd say this place is not bad. Something good enough to replace Orchard-shopping time! It doesn't replace the "Orchard" feel though, but I would say it's not that difficult to find nice clothes/ gifts etc from this place. Like I said, it caters to almost anyone!
Nice place; worth going if you're looking for somewhere new to go!
