I'm pretty sure everyone knows Killiney Kopitiam. They have a few outlets around Singapore and most people would have been to one or the other.

Anyway this particular one in Siglap is always busy. They are never empty and I wonder why.

Coffee at Killiney's ain't different from the 70 cents one you find at your regular coffeeshop. not to mention it's more expensive here. In fact, it's more diluted if they're really busy. It's a little wierd since they supposedly make each cup as they are ordered.

They also have local foodfare like Mee siam and Nasi Lemak. Taste-wise is pretty average. Nothing special, thus it doesn't quite justify that $1 or $2 more....

I like the toast though, but again it's nothing extraordinary.

Nonetheless this small outlet is always bustling. Only try if you really have no other place to go for breakfast.

    862. Ice Cream Chefs

Ice Cream Chefs ... located along East Coast Road... How could I not visit this place?! It's a quaint little joint located near where Jackie's Bowl used to be.

Initially I'd thought the ice cream would be made on the spot ... haha the bimbo I am...

The ice cream is displayed like normal. There are many flavours to choose from including special ones like Chocolate and Hershey's, Nutella Delight, Mrs Smith, etc. The ice cream is made from real ingredients... not just flavouring. There's real durian meat in the Durian Decadence flavour.

And The really special thing they'd do for you is CUSTOMISE your ice-cream. You can add Loacker's wafers, Oreos... into your ice-cream!! You can even mix flavours...

One large pint will cost $9.50. Two pints was nice for 3 people who loved ice cream.

I think it's worth a try. The quality is pretty good and it's great fun! The ambience is very casual with music from the radio in the background. You can choose to sit inside or outside... total seating area for about 20 people .

    Will definitely be back!

This is one site that all book lovers should join. Find books in BookJetty and it'll search through Amazon for details and listing of the books that matches your query. The most exciting thing is the integration of the search of the books in National Library too!! Yes! Our dear NLB! It'll tell you where you'll be able to find the book and whether or not its on loan and if you need the list of libraries with the book, you can even send a SMS to yourself so that you don't have to write it down on paper.

I've not been reading for long long long long time. (Apart from reading in Yebber and the other blogs I read.) But now with BookJetty, I might just pick up reading again! So loving the feature of BookJetty! Go try it to see it yourself!

Salute to the man behind this.

After a hard day’s work at my Conference, my Dear came over to meet me at Suntec. He insisted on trying New York New York, so we went there for dinner on the Full Moon night (yes, the mid-autumn festival night).

    We were starving.

We ordered the Spicy Buffalo Wings. Crispy, not so spicy. Seasoning is so-so.

We saw the “fried mushroom” on the menu. As mushrooms lovers, we wont miss this dish. They use Golden mushrooms and Shitake. The batter is too thick. The Golden mushrooms are not suitable for frying as they are too tough. If you are not careful, you might be choke by a bunch of the fried Golden mushrooms.

My main dish is the chicken chop. The seasoning is not very appealing to me. The sauce is good though.

I like the penne creamy pasta with roast chicken that my Dear ordered. The sauce is thick, the taste is just like the Pasta de Waraku’s. I dun really like their chicken. Not nice. :p

Maybe they are no good with Chicken.

My Dear & I decided to try out their branch at Thomson.

We cannot decide which appetizer to order, so we went for the Glutton’s Platter. We like the chipolata, chix wings and the wedges. The rest - onion rings and chix nuggets - CANNOT MAKE IT. Onion rings were too oily and the Chix nuggets too hard. The chipolata are chewy; the chix wings marinate is good - got the old primary school canteen chix wings taste; the wedges are fried just rite. The sauce is a mix of french onions with mayo. Nice!

Their salads are fresh and crunchy (as usual!). :)

I ordered Chicken Ballotine instead of my fren's recommendation of chicken cordon bleu. I like the chicken thigh roll with braised mushroom stuffing.

Dunno why my Dear like to order this Chicken baked rice. It’s not very nice. He said is not as good as the one he had at Purvis Street.

This entry contains many photos and best read at my personal blog. Click here to visit.

For more photos taken at Lunar, click here.

I received this eDM (electronic Direct Mailer) in my mailbox. From the design, I thought it was an atas club with nice stylo-mylo oriental music, possibly nostalgic and even some Shanghai Jazz too, interior decor that would make Shanghai Tang really proud and service that would come from a team of waitresses dressed in ankle length cheongsam.

So when Lunar opened, I got the girlfriend along with her friends to check the place out. Like all club openings, the place was packed and music booming.

Once we entered, the attention was on the large screen which was screening Rain's concert, with fans screaming in the background. There was hardly any room and on the first level, we decided to move up to the second floor. I was quite impressed by the lift and the waitress team that played lift attendants. Judging from their looks and grasp of English language, they were all our foreign talent directly from China. Good and Bad. Good because it sort of upped the kinky fantasies quotient. Bad because, well, you know how the locals think about foreign talent...

Since we are on the topic of the waitresses, their uniform was functional, especially the striking bob wig, which makes for easy identification in the dimmed environment. The whole package with the short cheongsam dress, stockings and boots however reignites the debate of whether Singapore's very own Annabelle Chong should be considered trailer trash or local pop culture icon.

There was hardly any standing room and it was rather difficult snaking through the crowd. When we managed to find an available spot to rest at, the live music started. The first reaction by the ladies was, "Bad singing of even worse songs."
A quick inspection and we realized it was a live band on stage. The female vocalists only scored in the looks department, singing wasn't great and failed to carry the feeling of the songs. Their attempts on interpretation failed spectacularly. Male vocalists weren't any better and looked liked the sharpei (Peking bulldog).

Just when I thought the music could get any worse, the band got off stage and house music resumed...
Guess what? They spun Afro-American Hip-Hop, Rap and R&B. Tak match to the extreme can!

Even though a waitress had previously taken our order, the drinks never came. Due to the crowds and the demand for the free drinks, we only managed to get one drink each after lots of pushing and shoving. I was pleasantly surprised by a quiet but friendly bartender who diligent served up requests of drinks.

We took our time to finish our drinks. One of the ladies wanted to hit the dance floor but was promptly discouraged by its emptiness. We decided to take our leave but also have a good look at the interior decor which was really nicely done up.

Some rather nice paintings too. There were also some racier ones on the ceiling, but I missed out taking photos of them. Guys, don't hate me for depriving you of those artistic paintings.

The ladies particularly liked this throne and spontaneously hammed it up there...

And the same pictures with some styling...

And just as we thought the first band couldn't get any worse, another ensemble took the the stage...

We waited for their first piece only to be disappointed and appalled yet again by the quality of sound made. It likened to the ad-hoc performances in Chinatown which employed Mainland Chinese ladies prancing around on stage looking as if they played the Chinese instrument.

So Lunar seemed to know nuts about Oriental music. Perhaps they should consult the Esplanade's producer for Huayi Festival for its musical direction. Seriously, the concerts there are much more happening.

    My Parting Note on Lunar

Lunar to me is pretty much like Café Del Mar (Sentosa) where the music failed to fit its image. The management probably didn't think the crowds would appreciate anything that is non-mainstream. Great effort in the decor, but it fails spectacularly by missing the complete experience by miles.

Cotton On is a reputable Australian brand that sells plenty of basics at low prices! It had a super long queue in its store on a sleepy Monday afternoon, so you can take my word for it.

Plenty of basics and a good number of printed Tees to go too. They have all styles : spaghetti tops, tanks, short sleeves, dresses, bermudas, shorts, etc. ANd don't be mistaken, they have stuff for guys too.

You know what I love most about them? Their tops are LONG. Absolutely perfect for low waist/ hipster jeans. And they have plenty of promotions like 2 for $20 tops, and even $10 dresses and $5 slippers!

And every style comes in a good number of colours to suit everyone.

I was telling myself to save money... but I went in bought myself two tops for $20, another for $12 and a dress for $20 !! And no regrets really. I love all of them. :)

I'll definitely be back and hope you'll be there too!

Tonkichi Restaurant is a Japanese Restie situated in Isetan Scotts itself. It's on Level 4 where you find the household items. :) It was a little tricky to locate at first.

    The ambience
Pretty much normal. It was quiet this Monday afternoon. So I was really comfortable with that. The decor is the conventional Jap sorts, though it doesn't require you to kneel on the floor. Better for gatherings than romantic dates I'd say though. Good for business meetings where they have booths at the side for more privacy.

Food Ordered (All listed below were sets served with rice)
    Oyster Fry
    Prawn and Crab
    Chicken Teriyaki Ju (mine)
    Shoyu Rosu (pork)
    Katsu Dory (Fried fish curry)

I had the Chicken Teriyaki Ju. Honestly I didn't find it fantastic. It was better than some places I've been to but not the best certainly. The rice was good, soft and sticky. Just the way it should be. The chicken was crisp and well covered in the teriyaki sauce. The sauce was pretty much like those you find in the supermarkets but it wasn't diluted (at least). It was going for $18 complete with the appetizer which I refused to try because the meat didn't look like chicken ( I only eat chicken and fish) and miso soup (of course.)

My other companions didn't have any problems with their food. I tried some of the pork tenderloin. It was ok, but had some fatty bits in it which is the reason why I try to stay away from pork. They all loved the oyster fry though. Could see that it looked really good though I couldn't have it today as my skin was acting up.

    The service
The staff was quite alert, filling up our cups time and again. But then the restaurant was pretty empty so that would have been expected. The tea was barely warm so it turned cold really fast. But everyone was all smiles and they were very polite so that was good.

    The damage
$111 for 5 people. I would say reasonable at about $22 per person.

When you walk past this stall, you will almost certainly miss it. Not only do they not have any flashy signs, this stall also does not have a name. At one glance it might also look like a stall that sells the standard vegetarian fare (what is commonly called the "economical" food). However, do not be fooled by the external appearance. They have a special dish that would make you keep going back for more.

It is the Ginko nut, brown rice porridge.

With a generous serving of ginko nuts and other assortment of ingredients (including a topping of crispy condiment), this would make your porridge tasting experience a unique one.

Another vote on the bad back rest. The angle is awkward. And it gave me an aching neck after just a short 100 minutes show.

But the other Yebbers are definitely right about the spacious seats and the clean (but which cinema isn't clean while it's new?) comfy feel.

I still prefer The Cathay. :)
