I was looking for a nice place for my sister's birthday when I came across Hog's Breath Cafe and they were having a 1-for-1 promo at that time.

After hearing from my friend how yummy their steaks were, I gave it a go and brought my family there for a meal!

We ordered a total of 6 dishes, with a variety of their famous steaks, chicken and a fish.

The service was great because there were less than 5 tables occupied when I was there. The waiters were meticulous when introducing the specials and the dishes to us. Ice water was also served and refilled promptly!

The food came shortly and we were really pleasantly surprised by their nice presentation.

    Tex-Mex Combo:
The mexican wrap was really good, the filling was genorously given and I love the special sauce that goes along with it. The whipped potato was nicely done and the mushroom sauce for the steak is good.

    Baby Back Ribs:
The ribs were tender & juicy! It has 8 ribs altogether and we had the Hog Tail Fries to go along with it. My family and I are totally in love with their fries! The taste is so good you won't get tired of it.

    Reef Ranger Prime Rib:
This dish consist of a prime rib and 3 grilled prawns. The prawns were big and fresh. Rib was medium done, juicy and yummy!

    Calamari w/ Prime Rib:
The calamari ain't fantastic to have much to rave about. I think their batter isn't that good as other restaurants have got to offer.

Pan Fried Sea Bass w/ Mango Chutney Sauce:
This dish is really refreshing with the mango sauce drizzled over the pan fried sea bass. The sea bass was fried till perfection and it tasted so heavenly with the sweet/sour mango sauce! Yum~

    Chicken Dijonnaise:
This is a chicken dish, with the chicken grilled and then eaten with a sweet mustard sauce. The sauce is very good.

Overall, Hog's Breath is a place worth to go for a catching-up meal with friends. After your meal, there's even a bar downstairs for you to have a drink! And with the 1-for-1 promo, we only paid a little over $100 for our meal.

Tired of wearing the same old outfit once every 3 days? Trying to find ways and means to spice up your dull fashion sense?

Look no further! www.sophistix.net is here to help! I first came across this website when a friend introduced it to me. Being a UK14 (plus sized), I am always thrilled to find online stores that cater sizes XL and above.

To my pleasant surprise, So[phis]tiX stocks up on unique casual wear and sizes go up to 3XL for most styles! I quickly browsed through the website and found many designs that I love.

The products include shorts, pants, jackets, casual seperates (my favourite section with lots of VESTS!), skirts and tops.

No trouble about sizing because the owner of So[phis]tiX usually put up the exact measurements of the piece of clothing on the product page for better guaging!

I couldn't wait further for someone to share purchase with me - becuase there's free shipping (within Singapore) for orders abover $50.

I added an item - Alice Shrug - to my cart after signing up for an account. The confirmation email came really promptly and soon I was discussing payment details with the owner, Prab.

Prab was very very friendly and polite in her email replies. She did not hesitate to answer all my queries & doubts on the item I chose as afterall, this is my first time purchasing from this site!

After paying (via fund transfer), Prab took down my address and the package was sent to me via a courier - flat rate of $4 for postage.

I loved the shrug alot as it looks exactly like the picture given on the website and the measurements were accurate.

Overall, I had a wonderful experience purchasing from this website. I would love to share it with my friends and I hope to purchase more in the future! :D

Ever since they moved to the heritage building in Chinatown, I have not paid them a visit till the beginning of this July. I've always been to their East Coast branch a few years back for family dinners and gathering. I vividly remember always going there for their anniversary special peiking duck!

This time round, my family brought me there for my 19th birthday and Spring Court was having their 78th Anniversary promotion - the 78cents peiking duck with every $78 spent.

We booked a table 2 days in advance and although we arrived just about 10 minutes later than our booked time, we had to wait for about 15 minutes before getting our table. Their reception area was so small and squeezy.

There were only 2 chairs available for sitting (while waiting) and I quickly got my grandparents to sit down because I was afraid it would be quite a long wait.

The crowd was really good, many big families were coming and leaving as we waited at the lift lobby for our table. Soon enough, we were asked to go up to the 3rd level as our table was ready.

The ambience was really very traditional, I love seeing big families eating together and having so much good time together!

    We ordered these dishes:

    - Spring Onion w/ Ginger Deer Meat
    - Spring Onion w/ Ginger Fish Fillet
    - Veggies (I forgot the name of our dish!)
    - Yam Ring
    - & of course, the Peiking Duck

The spring onion with ginger dishes were a huge disappointment! :( When the dishes came, all I could see was spring onions! The deer meat was served on an oval-shaped hotplate but the meat barely occupied half the hotplate...

However, the Yam Ring was crispy and light - not too sweet and the shrimps were really crunchy! I love the taste of yam with cashew nuts!

The bonus for us - 78 cents peiking duck was nice & crispy (oily too). I really enjoyed it cos it's not everyday that I get to eat peiking duck. The duck meat was chopped (additional charge of $5 to use their knife -_-) and I ate it with lots of sweet sauce.

The bill came up to $119 for 6 persons, quite reasonable I would say for a reputable restaurant like Spring Court. However, my parents commented that it would be more worthwhile to eat Tze Char at normal coffee shops (where we could easily get equally good or better food) because we paid more than $20 for peanuts, tea & wet towels, haha!

    14. Bakerzin (Paragon)

    Gwen Gwen says:

I admit I was drawn to this cafe due to its unique name - Bakerzin. After surfing their website, it made me more determined than ever to give it a try. Thus, I dragged 5 other friends down with me to their Paragon branch for dinner!

Ok firstly we had a hard time finding the place. I had to call up Bakerzin to get directions from a staff working there. After reaching the place, I found myself disappointed with the small space of the restaurant!

They had 2 parts - An interior and exterior dining area. The interior area had only about 7 small round tables that could sit maximum of 4 people. On the outside, they cramped around 10 or so rectangular tables.

We had to join 3 tables together for the 6 of us. Menu was given to us promptly after we were seated. I observed that there were only a few waiters on duty despite the heavy traffic of customers!

Menu was not too bad, we could choose from pasta, pizzas, sandwhiches or appetisers.

    We ordered:

    - spaghetti with meatballs
    - linguini in mushroom cream sauce
    - macaroons
    - fruit flavoured sodas

FIRST MISTAKE: They do not serve ice water!!!

I detests restaurants that do not serve ice water to their customers. This is an underhand way to make us order drinks from their menu!

    SECOND MISTAKE: Unfriendly Service

While waiting for our food, my friends & I went to their cake display to choose our cakes for desserts. There was only ONE waiter inside the cake counter while there were 2 groups of customers choosing cakes.

The waiter was not paying attention to us. He was inside cleaning some utensils, treating us like we're invisible!

After we managed to get his attention, we ordered our cakes by pointing to him. He took what we wanted and put it on a plate after which he placed the plate on the cake display AND TURNED TO ATTEND TO OTHER CUSTOMERS.

Ugh!!! It was like leaving us hanging there!!! My friends & I were so puzzled on what to do next.. so I stretched out my hand wanting to take the plate of cakes back to our table.

However, the waiter turned to me and took the plate away from me saying "No no, we will serve it to you!". I was so embarrased after she said that! After all, it was my first time there so I did not know their service patterns.

The food was average, the cream sauce pasta was too creamy that my friends had a hard time finishing it. The meatball spaghetti I had was tasty enough to pass but not fantastic.

On the whole, I have nothing to rave about this Bakerzin branch. I would like to try their desserts in another branch though!

PS. We even took about 15mins or so to foot the bill because they were seriously short of staff!

My advice: This branch is good for a cuppa tea/coffee and some cakes. Big groups should avoid this branch as it is cramp and not suitable for group meals! :)

This was my first time at Fish & Co.'s Changi Airport branch and I was thoroughly impressed when I first stepped in.

The ambience of the restaurant was soothing, with dim lighting and soft sofa seats. There was no queue when I went there on a Sunday afternoon and there were less than 10 occupied tables.

We were approached by several different waiters while waiting for our seats. They were friendly and approached us with a smile. We requested for a table we wanted and we were given it after they cleared it.

My friends and I took quite some time to look at the menu as it was filled with a vast variety of seafood and cooking styles. From their signature Fish & Chips to seafood platters and grilled salmon, we were spoilt for choice!

    After much consideration, we ordered:
    - Seafood Platter For 1
    - Tuna Salad
    - Pasta & Shrimp Salad
    - Swordfish Collar

The food was served in 20 minutes which the waiter politely informed us while taking our orders.

I had no complains about all the dishes that we ordered!

    Seafood Platter For 1:
My favourite dish for the day! This platter contained all their specialities - Grilled Calamari, Grilled Prawns, Grilled Dory Fish and Mussels were served with a big portion of fragrant butter rice and fries! All were fresh, huge and tasted perfect with Fish & Co.'s tartare sauce and chilli.

    Pasta & Shrimp Salad:
A generous amount of medium size crunchy shrimp with cold pasta and a variety of greens. The sauce was abit too little for me though as I like my greens soaked in salad sauce. However, the shrimp did manage to pull up the points for this dish.

    Tuna Salad:
Huge chunks of tuna that looked like beef to us were placed on top of a portion of greens and cherry tomatoes.

    Swordfish Collar:
We were amazed by the size of the swordfish! It was the size of both my palms, and what more.. we had TWO pieces! The collar was deep fried till perfect golden brown and there was a crunch to the meat. Fries were genorously piled at the side. The mango vinaigrette tasted so refreshing and yummy that we asked for a refill!

    Service:
Our waiter was polite and friendly, apologising for the 20 minutes wait and smiled at all times when serving us. Our ice water were refilled without prompting and plates were cleared after we finished every dish.

Overall, this was such a pleasant dining experience! Our tourists would surely get a good impression of our service quality if they visit this Fish & Co. branch!
