Was a on-off customer of soup spoon since their first outlet in raffles place. Still remember they used to provide free flow of bread in the early days, but reckon they dropped this option realising they are dealing with Singaporean type of consumers.. its also a smart move to remove the free flow bread concept and expand their menu with other carbo replacements which generates revenue. ^_^
My current favorite is their tomato basil soup. The flavour is tangy with a hint of spice, consistency is not too thick & suitable for those still prefer soups that doesn't taste like thick cream. The raffles city outlet serves nann too & its pretty authentic ( u can see the nanns freshly baked as you queued for your turn. )
One tip, service quality is mediocre especially when queues are long during feeding times... be ready for an unsmiling counter staff as they try to clear the queues asap....
Ichiban Sushi Toa Payoh is always full house thoughout most times of the day. It's quite a feat, considering there are so many choices for food in Toa Payoh Hub.
Perhaps most of you would not know that before Ichiban Sushi, there was another Japanese restaurant "Fiesta" in it's exact location.
Also, Ichiban Sushi had undergone one complete face lift before it looked like what it is today.
The interior is well laid out and even when crowded, you don't feel as if you and your food partner has no privacy when conversing.
My favourite is their fried salmon skin. The secret is to order with the service personnel and it will come warmed up with mayonnaise for dipping.
Their service is good too, with their manager waiting on the floor with the rest of the staff which is rather unusual.
Han's is one of my favourite eating place...I call it an eating place as it isn't really a restaurant, deli/cafe or kopitiam.
I used to work around the area and for my meals, with colleagues or by myself, I will frequent here.
My all time favourite is not any of their dishes(though I loved their special Hainanese Pork Chop rice)...rather it is their coffee. Yes, coffee with evaporated milk added.
I believe the reason for it being so delicious is in it's evaporated milk. SO I spied on them when they were preparing my coffee and found out they used King's Brand. Ha! I knew this must be the X factor.
Sadly I have not visited this place for a long time. Ya, there are many Han's around in Singapore, but you can't find one where they located all their "old school" customer service personnel, lol. They give you more attitude than you give them, but in a retro way :)
Bobosaid: Hi rolly polly! Welcome to Yebber. I know what you mean when you say you have to call it an eating place. haha I get that sometimes. :) 03 May 2008 at 2:37 pm
