After reading lots of great reviews on Komachi over at hardwarezone forums (yeah, salon reviews on an IT forum), I decided to give it a try. Guess I was in a crazy mood, as I usually don't get expensive haircuts. I also wanted to see what magic they could do to my hair for the high price they charge. Usually it's $65, but for first timers, there is a 20% discount which means I have to pay only $52. Still expensive!

My stylist was Mr. Maeda San. The service standard is excellent. The long hair wash and head massage was exactly what I needed to relax my mind. The shampoo used was some kind of milk shampoo, which smells absolutely heavenly! I was tempted to buy a bottle home. Fortunately, they are not pushy with their products, unlike many other salons.

As for the haircut, given my short hair length, it's needless to say that there is nothing magical he could do about it. It turns out to be rather normal, what I could get with my usual $18 haircut.

Conversing with the stylists can be tricky, as all of them are Japanese. Most of the time, I have difficulty making out anything other than "ne".

They are currently in the process of moving from Liat Towers to Liang Court. So this entry might need updating when they eventually move over, which I believe will be in June.

The infamous Gelare Tuesdays, the only time of the week when you get waffles at half price. Sounds good doesn't it? Except you can expect to wait for eons for your waffles to be served.

We waited for a good 40 minutes before our simple waffle with two scoops of ice-cream got served.

If they couldn't keep up with the service standard, or to train their staffs to politely inform us of a possible long wait, they might as well not try stunts like this. It only serves to stain their brand name.

And I totally agree with Polarbear above, no free water is a bad move. It's the little perks that keep customers coming back, and the little irks that keep them away.

Being one of those born in the "Strawberry Generation", film cameras aren't totally foreign. But by the time we grow up and start working, digital has taken over. So I never really got to own my very own film camera.

Digital is convenient and all, but somehow black & white photography in digital just seem to lack something. Or it simply feels unauthentic to me when you can easily convert that colour image to b&w in a single click.

So one faithful day, I saw this used camera shop at the ground floor of Peninsula Excelsior Hotel. Much to my surprise, not only do they have the pictured camera that I have been eyeing, they had two units. One of them was in pretty bad shape, while the other looked almost perfect. Amazing for a camera that is made in the 70s.

So without hesitation, I grabbed the good one at just $100, which is the typical price even if you buy one online. The owner of the shop was really experienced, as he patiently showed me every detail of the camera to the film-idiot me.

For his patience, his experience shown in handling the camera, and the good price he gave, I'm giving him a 4-star. Knocking off one star was due to the other unit that was in really bad shape. The lens was ridden with fungus, which I really do not think it should be sold at the same $100 price tag. So be sure to check meticulously if you choose to purchase a used camera here.

Step into Eden Cafe, and its homeliness is the first thing that hits you. Friendliness is next, as Clement and his team greeted us with their warm smile and polite gestures. Service like this is getting hard to come by on our little island! The cosiness of the cafe makes it the perfect place for a quiet evening dinner.

I'm a fish lover, but only if they have no fishy stink and no fish bones. So, Clement recommended me their Ginger Leak Snowfish, which is a made-to-order dish. I was swept off my feet! It has zero fishy stink and fish bones. Unlike regular fishes, the snowfish does not split into bits as you cut it. And most importantly, it tastes really good! It is covered in a special sauce which has peanuts in it for that nice crunchy bite.

My friend tried their famous Black Sesame Mushroom Pasta. The pasta is home-made and is dark in colour. As Clement said, this dish is pretty subjective. Some people might love it, while some might really hate it. I guess I belong to the latter, while my friend belongs to the former, as she loves black sesame. Being one of Eden Cafe's famous dishes, I'm sure there are more people who love it than otherwise. A truly unique dish that you can't find anywhere else!

Finally, we had their Lily Citron Jello. It is a jelly kind of dessert that is stuffed with grapes and topped with fresh yogurt and yummy strawberries. It is as healthy as how good it tastes!

Eden Cafe also serves many kinds of floral teas and floral cuisine. All very healthy food that I want to try one day.

Eden Cafe is definitely a 5-star. I'm already salivating right now over the thought of the Ginger Leak Snowfish!

Another vote on the bad back rest. The angle is awkward. And it gave me an aching neck after just a short 100 minutes show.

But the other Yebbers are definitely right about the spacious seats and the clean (but which cinema isn't clean while it's new?) comfy feel.

I still prefer The Cathay. :)

UNO Beef House is one of my favourite place for western food! I believe they are famous for their steaks, but since I'm no steak lover I can't give any steaky recommendations.

But their fish & chips and chicken chops are excellent! Portion is large and prices are reasonable (around $4.50 and above).

It helps that they are so near my home. :) Highly recommended if you happen to be free to drop by.

I totally agree with Natsu, the queuing system at IKEA Restaurant & Cafe made me felt like I was in National Service again! Queuing up and picking up food along the way just feels so much like NS.

In case you are wondering, no that is not a compliment. :)

The food is pretty decent, but the price is a little on the high side. I tried their Chicken Chop Rice.

Finally, getting seats might prove to be difficult with the amount of people there. So be prepared to spend a little time waiting.

What a pleasant surprise, when I discovered the good food and excellent service at Hog's Breathe Cafe yesterday. It was my birthday, so the good stuffs were definitely welcomed!

I had their Atlantic Salmon with fries and salad. The portion is huge and it's very nice! I tried their Chicken Tender too, which is just as good.

The prices are fairly reasonable for their portion. At the end of the meal we were really really full!

    Definitely must re-visit. :)

I have been a Starhub MaxOnline user for many years too. Let's see...at least 7 years? It has been serving me really well, and it's so nice of them to increase their plans' bandwidth for free (then again, it could be that they are holding back their speed and giving us bit by bit).

I'm on the cheapest plan, mainly because I'm the only person at home using it. I don't know if upgrading my plan will help, but whenever I try SingNet at my friends' home, it feels faster. I believe it's the ping time. The same reason why online gamers swear by SingNet. But when it comes to downloading, Starhub seems to excel with really fast speeds.

All in all, I am a satisfied customer. But I do hope they will reduce their pricing. I admit I've been tempted several times to hop to SingNet due to their lower prices.

    Bad Service

I'll definitely avoid going to this branch of Boon Tong Kee's again. Before we even stepped in, one of their waitress bumped into my friend with a dish on her hands. Instead of apologising, she gave him an annoyed look.

What happened to customers always being right?

And when we were trying to order food, the waiters and waitresses all seem to only have a 10-degrees viewing angle. All of them just can't seem to see the 7 of us frantically waving our hands at them to take our orders.

The food was not that fantastic either. The taste wasn't exceptional, and the food looks badly laid out. And being Boon Tong Kee, the price is on the high side too.

    Boycott this branch, I say...
