This must be my most-est favorite shopping malls out of so many in Singapore! Located right in the center of the train system (SMRT and NEL at Dhoby Ghout Station), getting to Plaza Singapura (or for short PS) is so easy and fast!
This 7-storey high shopping mall is packed with all the most sort after shops and labels. You'll sure be able to find whatever you want within PS! Wide range of fashion labels, eating places, electronic stores, IT gadgets, mobile phones, DIY shops and so much more! You name it, you'll find it!
Why PS is the place for families... just sharing some of the reasons...
For Mothers/Housewives: You have the biggest supermarket, Carrefour, for all your groceries and daily neccessities. Need a message to soothe all the aches and pain, well, you have Osim, OTO and Ogawa under the same roof. And how can we miss the irrissitable and friendly $2 shop, Daiso!
For Guys/Husbands/Fathers: Looking for electronics? Go to Best Denki. Looking for mobile phones? Motorola, Starhub, Singtel ans Samsun is there. Looking for gadgets? Creative and Pacific City to fill your IT senses.
For kids/children: Lego for the builder-in-you. Or read a book at Times Bookstore.
For teens/young adults:Movies, games, food, fashion, music, and so much more! In fact, everything in PS is so hip and cool, you'll love just being in the building!
So what are you waiting for? Go shop at Plaza Singapura today!
We were trying to find a new place for food, and was planning to check out the cafe at Thomson CC, but it seems packed and there wasn’t a parking lot, so we went to the opposit and parked the car. Walked down the row of shops and found this tiny coffeeshop lighted nicely in yellow light, instead of the usual bright white light. Seemed like a normal coffeeshop with run-down stalls in front and tables and chairs everywhere, but what got our attention was the raw-looked signboard at the back of the coffeeshop - Crab Shack. Interesting name! Took a look at the menu and the thought of eating real crab meat without having to go through the trouble of digging it from the shell tempts my bf, who’s allegy to crab shell. So we went in and have a try.
To our surprise, this place was quite popular few years back, there were magazine clippings and blogs that recommended this place. But guess, everyone’s the same, when something’s new and fresh, people will go, esp if TV show or stars went to do a cover for it etc… and after awhile, new places come up, and people go try them out and forget about the old ones.
I’m glad I found this place by chance. Sure going back to eat when I’m around the area. The Crab Au Gratin is yummmmy!! If you like fresh flower crabs steamed to perfection, Crab Shack's the place to try!
I don't know if they are the cheapest but they are certainly cheap.
Situated at the old Cinema along New Upper Changi Road, they share the premises with a Gaming shop/Arcade. It's hard to miss with all the posters and such pasted all over the front. Outside it may look a little sleazy and run-down. But they've done up the inside and it's pretty neat. Although they don't have large comfy sofas but it's just comfortable enough with air-conditioning.
The food tasted: Chicken teriyaki set served with rice @ $4.90 Cold Soba Noodles served with Mixed tempura @ $5.90 Unagi Set with rice @ $8.90
The food tastes much like Singaporean homecooked Jap food made with all those condiments you see at NTUC. Just minus the hassle of cooking. It's pretty good if you don't think about all the preservatives you're eating. Most importantly it's very fast. Occasionally the cook will be too generous with the sauces, but it's better than tasteless.
Sets are pretty good value as they also include fruit, appetizer and free flow green tea.
Good if you're gathering with a small group of friends... but not for impressing girls. :)
*******This outlet has closed down. I went twice last week and all the posters have been taken down, etc. Do visit them at other outlets stated at their website!
The Cheapest Japanese Food in Singapore is at Sumo House!! Its a no frill, good food japanese resturant (more like food court). Just good food at cheap price! Enjoy a tummy filling meal with a friend at less than $20! You should be able to get each a bento set, couple of side dishes and drinks. (Or just drink the self-service free flow green tea!)
I've been to the Ang Mo Kio branch couple of times and we keep going back for more! The place is usually packed during peak periods (lunch and dinner) and you'll have to join a queue. However the queue moves pretty fast cause the resturant (food court) is done in a way where you will just want to move away once you've finished your meal. (If you're a big motion eater, you might end up arm fighting with the guy next to you! Tsk tsk!)
Do give this place a try when you're around one. There's 3 branches now and guess more will be coming up. Check their website for the menu and operating hours.
Sharing good food at value-for-money quality with everyone.
||Provence Bakery||
This is no ordinary bakery shop, it has successfully combined japanese and french flavours into their breads. Provence Bakery has a bakery cum cafe concept, which i find it quite good. Whether you need some quick take away or a relaxing afternoon tea, you can definitely find it there.
Located in a quiet corner of holland village, it took me really some time to finally locate this bakery shop. But, its really worth my effort cause their breads are really amazing.
The definitely must try will have to be their wansat. It comes in two flavours -- chocolate and custard. Both are really nice (although i prefer the chocolate one). ha.
Shaped like a small croissant with inter layers of chocolate or custard filled in between. Whats more? Their texture is really really soft, one bite and it will melt in your mouth. Simply heavenly.
They are usually sold in a pack of 10s with either a mixed combination (custard and chocolate) or chocolate only and custard only. Really nice of them to pack in this way. So, if you wish to try both of the flavours, you can choose the mixed combination without having to buy 2 packs. hee.
Milk and cheese is the next bread that i would like to recommend. A fan shaped alike crispy crust, has milk and cheese combination filled up right in the middle. This slightly sweet bread has a very strong milky after taste which i loved it very much.
Overall, their breads are really good. However, if you want to try out wansats, my advice is to go there early cause their wansat are usually sold out by late noon.
||The Cheesecake Cafe||
Being a cheese lover, i simply loved anything contains cheesy. So when i heard of this cheesecake cafe, i told myself i got to try it!!!
The cheesecake cafe is located in the eastern part of singapore and only opens during the evening - night time. Glad that i did not went there early in the morning, if not guess i will miss these cheesy cakes. hee.
They have only a few parking lots just outside the cafe, but they are usually full so do come early if you do not wish to search for a carpark space (which is rather difficult in that area).
My very first step into the cafe really surprised me. For i nearly thought i have stepped in to a bar instead. ha. It is dimly lighted with some soft backgroup music, combined with big comfortable sofas, it is a perfect cosy place for you to relax.
However, didnt really like the height of their tables (which is rather low). Perhaps it is to complement their sofas, but i find it quite hard to eat a main course.
How can i not order cheesecake when i am in the cheesecake cafe??? Their range of cheesecake is very special as you will not be able to find most of them in the normal cafe. From the normal new york cheesecakes to peanut butter cheesecake. ha.
I ordered their recommendation -- peach jelly cheesecake. Every mouth of the cheesecake proved to be a surprise for me. Small diced pieces of peach is found in the cheesecake and whats more, a thick slice of peach jelly is hidden in between the cheesecake.
This peach jelly cheesecake tasted wonderfully nice. Now then i realised that peach can actually go very well with cheese. hee.
Overall, its a nice ambience cafe with warm staffs always ready to give you recommendation on their food. However, their cheesecakes are priced slightly higher than those normal cafe, but guess the surprise that you find in their cheesecake will worth the price you pay.
||Manhattan Fish Market||
Knew of two MFM locations in Singapore, one is at clarke quay and the other is at plaza singapura. Both offered the same menu but the one at clarke quay has something more.
Yes and the something is called the ambience!!! ha. Well, MFM at clarke quay has a balcony section whereby you get to view really surperb scenary with river, hills and best of all -- sunset. Sounds like a fanastic place to propose. ha.
As this is bascially a outdoor concept, you will not get to enjoy any air conditioning there. So, you can get pretty warm during certain part of the day. Good advice is to be there when the sun has set.
Thumbs up for their food!!! They have been said to serve the best fish and chips, and i guess this is very true. Deep fried golden brown crispy batter wraps the thick piece of dory fish, and the crispiness will actually last you till the last mouth. Their chips are really fanastic too. Really wonder how they can make every single fries to be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside? Does it has something to do with the potato?
Another must try has to be their mushroom soup!!! Their mushroom soup is not super thicky kind where you actually find them lump together. Whats more, it has a really strong taste of fresh mushrooms which is good.
Overall, a wonderful place to enjoy your meal. However, be prepared to wait for a while before being served as the servers are mainly located inside the main dining area and they may not be able to see your waving hand.
This is the place to be for all the IT geeks out there! Ever since I became a mobile blogger (on my macbook), I started searching for place where I get wireless connection and power source and still allows me place to relax and chill out at. More than often, I find myself sneaking at cafes trying to get my power block into their power socket...
But now, there's just the right place for me to go! Accessible via MRT at Raffles Place station. Its just a 5 mins walk from the station. The Geek Terminal is the one-stop place for all business meetings, friends gatherings, geeks get-togethers etc. They have high speed internet access and cool power lines where anyone can plug in and power up!
The cosy ambience gives you a very homely feeling. And the people are very friendly and helpful too. They serve food from morning till night. If you've got no place to go between meetings, and need a place to chill and surf, check out Geek Terminal.
||Prima Deli||
Prima Deli has quite abit of outlets all over the north, east , west and central zone of singapore. Defintely one of the major contributor to the bakery industry in Singapore. This particular Prima Deli lies in the corner of ang mo kio central. One would have easily missed it with soo many bakery shops available in the amk central.
Well, you may ask me wat its soo worth mentioning about this bakery. Firstly, their breads are not fanciful at all, be it the appearance of their breads or even the name they called for their breads. This is what i like as you do not need to take time trying to decode the name of the bread in order to know what is the filling inside the bread. ha.
I particularly like their deluxe vegetable bun. Although this is considered a simple bread which poses some similiarity of soon kueh, i like it cause you can hardly find it at other bakery stores anymore. Will defintely get one whenever i pass by prima deli store.
Secondly, i need to mentioned is defintely their pandan pancakes. These pancakes has definitely become one of their signatory food. You can choose to have the pancakes plain or with the varieties of fillings that they have. It includes cheese, blueberry, redbean and even chocolate. Yummy.
Not forgetting, their pancakes are always piping hot and will stay crispy even after sometime. Wonder what did they add in their flour to have these result. ha. Im pretty impressed.
Thirdly, their have recently added in a new series of bakery stuff, that is their puff pastries and muffins. Looks pretty delicious. And you get a pretty good deal promotion if you get their puff pastries and muffin this month. Guess now its really a perfect time to try out their stuff.
||SecretRecipe||
Secret Recipe is located at the 3rd level of Plaza Singapura. You will not missed this cafe as its situated right in the middle of the walkway. ha.
Was wondering where did all the people came from when we saw a long long queue forming right outside their cafe during national day. In the split seconds, we almost thought that they are giving away free cakes in celebration for national day. ha.
Then did we realise these cakes are not free but at a discounted rates. Yah, one whole regular cake which sells for $45 in normal days, is now selling at a shocking $26 after the 42% discount rate. That probably explains why a long queue is there.
Fear not if you cant make it for this promotion on the national day as they will be having this same promotion from mon to fri to celebrate the birthday of singapore.
Ok, we did not get the entire cakes but we did satisfy our taste bud with a small piece of raspberry cheesecake. Although this is not their signature cheesecake (marble cheesecake is their most popular cheescake), i still love this among their wide variety of cakes.
The sourish taste of the raspberry when combined with the strong cheese taste actually make the entire cake more appetising. You can easily polish up 2 slices at one go. The red raspberry is placed right on top of the cheesecake, and the colour combination actually makes the raspberry cheesecake even more appealing. ha.
If you do not like cheesecake, fear not as they have a wide range of non cheesey cake. Chocolate banana cake is one of them. Every spoonful of the cake, you will get to taste the real banana frutty. Whats more? The portion served is really huge, can really fill me up. This slice of cake is defintely value for money.
