Together with few Yebbers, we joined a foodie eat out at Tea Cosy. We had a selection of mains from the planned menu just for the gathering.
For the set, there was the homemade mushroom soup, infamous decadent salad, choice of main (laksa pasta, grilled lime chicken and pan fried foie gras). Paid $25.90 for pasta or chicken. Those who took the foie gras paid $32.90 .
It took them quite awhile to get the soup served. The mushroom soup was alright. Nothing special about it. Then after another long wait, the salad came.
It's quite sad to see the portion smaller than usual. Isn't it supposed to be a special promotional set? Promotional in terms of pricing and not the serving size right? If paying lesser for sets means getting lesser in serving, than what's the point of getting the promotion? Or at least it should be made aware to the customers that the salad served will be of sampling size or something? That aside, everyone at my table had to agree that the salad live up to its standard. The mayo on it was very tasty. Vegetables was fresh and the entire combination (with the saddening few tiny pieces of foie gras) was good. This will be the only thing that'll tempt me to go back for more.
The chicken was alright. Grilled to slightly charred on the outside and the sauce was alright only. Vegetables on the side could have been crunchier.
The desserts were not bad and I'll recommend girls who want a place to hang out over mini tea party to check Tea Cosy out. It's quite an experience with all the unique antique furnitures.
Overall my first experience at Tea Cosy was average. At times I feel upset too. This I shall not talk about it since it was a miscommunication between the mid-shift waitress they hired just for that night and us. In fact, the management should have given a better briefing before the night. Or perhaps get a more experience waitress the next time.
The only think I remember now is the smelly table. :(
It was quite a bad experience when I was there for dinner. When we walked into the sitting/dining area behind the serving/ordering counter, the place was quite messed up with tables and chairs misaligned and many tables uncleared. We sat ourselves at the "cleaniest" table we can find and looked at the menu. The food was quite cheap and there were quite a lot of variety. Then we spotted a piece of A6 paper with scribbling of some promo set available. $7.90 for main course with drink. (Can't remember if there's soup thou.)
We ordered the Grilled Sirloin Steak and Seafood Aglio Oli both at promotional price of $7.90. Added Fried Calamari for starter.
While waiting for the order, a lady came to clean our tables and after she wiped the table, there was a strong stinge of smell left behind by the cloth she used! It was as thou the cloth has been left unwashed for few days! Smell worst then toilet can? What disgusted me more was that the same pair of hands that handled the smelly table cloth was serving the food and folding paper napkins loh! I had to apply medicated oil on my nose to cover the smell. And when our food was served, all my appetite was gone. Good thing the food was still presentable the least.
When my steak came, I then realised that we didn't get to choose the done-ness of it. It was cooked, almost to complete well done. So it was too tough to chew. Didn't really enjoy it. Boyfriend's pasta was a tad better. At least the seafood was presentable and of a good size. There was more of a black pepper taste instead of how aglio olio pasta should taste like.
Our starter was then served after the main courses. (Hmm...) We should have expected what was served since it was only $2.50 for the Fried Calamari. It was pathetic and the calamari was overcooked. Again too tough to chew.
Guess I was just unlucky to get this kind of experience at Spagetti Too since the 2 ladies before me enjoyed themselves at the same location. Chef was different perhaps. And the lady serving was different too?

After staying away from sweet and oily donuts for awhile, I decided that its time to try something new. Saw this store at IMM few times I was there and finally decides to try it.
I used to be a fan for egg tarts before the craze for donuts. And this little store serves sweet little tarts with quite a number of different fillings. The original one looks like the usual Portuguese's egg tarts but of a different shape. I bought two flavors, the Melting Chocolate (shown in photo) and the Strawberry one.
The tart is soft yet the texture is well maintained. It's not too buttery nor eggy. Taste is just right. Topped with chocolate chips and inside filled with melted chocolate. The piece I got, the chocolate was only visible when I bite off almost half of the tart. But once there, every bite into the tart is greeted with just the right amount of melted chocolate and egg. Great delight when ate while its still warm.
The strawberry filling one is a tad too sweet for my liking. Perhaps the next time I will give the savory choices a try. They've the Mushroom Chicken and Pepper Chicken tarts too. Pretty unique since most egg tarts sold in the market are usually sweet ones.
The only sad part is their pricing. Each tart goes at $1.20. And you'll only save $1.20 if you buy 12 pieces. Not that encouraging for customers to want to buy more at a go. 12 pieces is a tad too many, unless you're buying for a party or to share with friends at gatherings ya?
One day, decided to pop by this outlet of Hanabi to try out their ala carte buffet with my gf as of yet to try it before.
As compared to the ala carte buffet at HONJIN, I find that the variety here is so much more and definitely more appealing in terms of taste and presentation. I especially liked teh sashimi platter, which had salmon, tuna, sea bream, hamachi, octopus and squid. Thinking of it just makes my saliva drool again.haha!!
As for the other foods, such as the Tori Karaage, skewed chicken, maki sushi, tempura and Kagiage, they were quite tasty as well. However, the chawamushi was not as smooth as I would have liked it to be. The taste was there but not the texture of the egg as I had ate at several other Japanese restaurants.
In addition, the air-conditioning seems a bit weak and we did perspire slightly. Nevertheless, I think that this is a place for a good Japanese buffet and the price is quite reasonable as well with us paying $77 for two adults. So do give it a try and see for yourself.
Chanced upon this place while walking hme one day. Decided to pop in for a look and found that this was a second-hand warehouse selling all kinds of furniture ranging from sofas, refrigerators, television sets, dining tables, study tables, mattresses, etc.
Took a brisk walk and found that the condition of most of the furniture were still quite good and before delivering to you, the staff would polish off any unwanted stains to the best they can and also give it a new coat of paint if deemed necessary. Of course, some of these additional works may offset you a bit more, but sometimes they may throw it in for free as well. So just ask and you may get it.
In the end, I got myself a computer chair for 80 bucks, which normally could have cost at least 90 bucks elsewhere such as VHIVE and COURTS. So if you happen to be in the area, do drop by to just take a look. Who noes, you may find a god deal for yourself, just like i found mine.
Saw this place a couple of times I been in the Katong area but never got around to trying it out. So after hearing from my friend that this place serves nice coffee and is a popular outlet when she went to Thailand, I decided to give it a shot.
WHen I went there at around late afternoon, not many customers were there. But the staff were not really that prompt in serving us. Nevertheless, they were friendly and gave some suggestions on what coffee were nice. So I ordered a Mexican iced coffee, which had Kahlua syrup in it. It had a nice taste and was served in a cute looking shoe-shaped glass. On the menu, saw that there were acouple more speciality coffee, which I may give a try in future.
Overall the coffee was nice, place was nicely done, but carparking could be the stumbling block for drivers. As for price wise, its reasonable and comparable to that of Starbucks and Coffee Bean
Having heard so much about Aston's Prime, I decided to give it a try last week and see if indeed it is that good(or that bad), as shared by other Yebbers here.
Me and my gf went in at around 6pm and got us a table near the entrance. First impression was that the place was quite small. Thus, for other Yebbers who wanna go there, do make a reservation if you aint gng there early to avoid waiting. As it was our first time there, we decided to try out the steak and ribs, which we think shld be nice. So we ordered the baby back ribs and the USDA strip (12oz slab). We also ordered the msuhroom and clam chowder soup and the steakhouse fries as side dish.
Before the dishes came, bread was served with thier in-house garlic spread and I must say that the bread was soft and fluffy and the spread was tasty, without too strong a garlic taste lingering on in your mouth.
The soup came and was fairly pleased with the amount of clams found in the soup. The mushroom soup was nice as well and was not too thick. As for the fries, they were chunky and served with a dash of spices (similar to the cajun fries served at Botak Jones). They were piping hot when served and crispy when bitten.
As for the main dishes, the slab of beef steak was quite juicy and succulent. We had ordered it to be medium cooked and some blood could be seen, yet did not taste too bloody. However, the exterior was slightly charred which affected the overall taste. Nevertheless, the steak was still quite good. As for the baby back ribs, they were nicely grilled and the meat came off easily from the bones, which was essential, to minimise the fiddling of the utensils by the customers to cut the meat.
And as other Yebbers had stated before, this place doesn't charge GST nor service charge. And given their attentive service by the staff, this was definitely a bonus. I would give it a thumbs up and would return for more in future
Was told that this place offered quite an exquiste range of Jap food. So decided to try it with my gf. Upon arriving there, was quite impressed with the decoration and ambience of the restaurant. First impression was definitely good.
The restaurant, as we learnt from the waiter, was actually set up by the same boss of TAO (the eatery at Paradiz Centre). As such, the method of ordering food is the same, with the customer ordering a dish from the menu selected from each category namely cold dish, main dish, desserts, drinks and a couple more which I can't remember at this moment. In addition, for dinner, there is an additional starter.
Since it was our first time, we ordered different foods to try out. In the end we ordered beef tendons, chicken roulette, beed steak on a hot stone, mushroom soup, seafood bisque, sashimi platter, egg custard, drinks, hot warm chocolate with vanilla ice-cream and macha green tea puree.
The food was definitely tasteful and would light up your palate. The staff were also very friendly and would give you opinions on what to order and how to eat some of the food as well.
ONe thing to take note is that the price may be slightly steep, with dinner at 58.80 for one pax. But to me, I think it was money well spent.
All in all, the service was good and food was superb. In addition, the staff, after we paid our bill, showed us around and said that in future, we could place a reservation and a room (min 4 pax) could be catered for us and the decoration of the room was quite artistic as well. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends who wanna have a place with good ambience to eat and chat.
Was introduced to this small cafe by my boss. So we had a small colleagues' gathering at this place for a meal. Basically this place offers only a small variety of dishes, mainly steak, fish and lamb shank. In addition to these dishes, there were also a few varieties of desserts to choose, mainly chocolate cake with ice-cream as the drawing attention one.
Overall I find that the food is not really that fanastatic. and that the service is a tad slow, as the crew is quite limited. So do be prepared to wait a while. And if you are driving there, do be there early as well as parking lots are very limited as it is very near to Jalan Kayu
Caught a late night show at the new Cathay cineplex at Downtown East. Arriving at the cinema level, I knew it's not going to be as good as the original The Cathay at orchard. Obviously this is one of the smallest Cathay around their cineplexes.
The cinema I went to was no. 3. It was relatively small but leg room was sufficient but not as wide as those at GV vivo. I've to disagree with genesis with the seats. After 100 mins of watching the show, my partner and I both suffered from neck ache and strain. We were seated on Row E, which's still considered among the back rows. The seats were uncomfortable and we were blocked by the couples in front of us. (Not alot thou, but still we can see their heads popping above the seats.)
Unlike GV cinemas, cathay still only provides "couple seats" with reclining arm rest at the 2 back rows. So if you're looking at getting some cuddling, especially for horror shows with your girlfriends, you might want to book the tickets in advance.
Another inconvenient thing about this Cathay is the toilet. It's located outside of the cinema and boy it was wet and dirty! Although the place is still pretty new, but the toilets were badly maintained. Guess the crowd overpowered the frequency of toilet maintenances.
Although the place is not up to our standard as compared to other Cathay and GV cinemas, we'll probably still go back for movies at nights. Reasons? Well, it's nearby our homes and the open space public parking outside is free after 10pm!
Love the salad and desserts.
