I like this place for its rustic charm and unpretentiousness. The focus here is solely on food. And I totally mean that. You sit on plastic chairs there and you have to put up with the occasional mosquito and random leaf falling into your food. I hope you like Airplanes, or there will be too many of them taking off for your liking.

While the staff members are all friendly enough, it was a little hard to mask my displeasure after a waiting time of 1 hour for my hamburger steak.

But was the hamburger worth the wait? Well I certainly thought so. The hamburger steak was nicely done, juicy and tender at the same time. The deep fried mushrooms are still to die for (unknown to many, the man who owns Sunset Grill is the very same man who started Jerry's) and the buffalo wings... well let's just say that they are the only buffalo wings I want to have in Singapore at the moment.

I will definitely want to be there again. Only this time, I will have friends who are willing to have a beer with me.

    7. Singapore Airlines

I fly at least once a month for work. I like SQ for the In Flight Entertainment it has and the impeccable service you get from their well trained stewardess.

However, in the recent years, these traits are no longer exclusive to Singapore Airlines anymore. Many regional airlines have been improving on their in flight entertainment and services. There is no longer any justification to pay for the overpriced tickets.

SQ also does not have a very attractive mileage point system at all. Fares on promotions are not eligible for mileage accumulation at all. That is despite the fact that you are still paying more than what you would have paid if you had taken another airline. What really upset me was that other airlines in the Star Alliance group do not have such practices. Thai Airways for example, gives you mileage points even if you had bought a ticket at a promotional price.

The Kris flyer member service is also extremely unhelpful. I was about 8000 points away from renewing my Gold Status (which for frequent fliers, is very important as you get to enjoy the use of the lounge) I called Krisflyer up and told them that I already have a ticket purchased to fly to LA (worth maybe about 16,000 points) in the following month and asked if they could credit that to my Kris Flyer points first. They denied my request despite having me as a customer for the last 3 or 4 years.

Thai Airways on the other hand, had very kindly acceded to my request in the past when I put in a request to give me a month more or two to get the points I need for renewal. I am very sorely disappointed that my national carrier would deny me a request that another Airline so readily acceded to.

Another thing I notice about Singapore Airlines is that you almost never ever get an upgrade on their flights despite holding Kris Flyer Gold. I have been upgraded on every other Star Alliance flights before but just never on the carrier of which I hold the loyalty card of.

Many of my foreign clients and friends would argue that it is worth paying for the flight just for the "beautiful" stewardess. I don't mean to be rude or insulting but I think that this perception no longer holds true and that I have seen a couple of stewardess who seemed to be bursting out of their seams in their tight kebayas.

Don't get me wrong, most of them are pleasant enough, but that perception that we have the most beautiful stewardess is just no longer true. If you have taken Thai Airways, JAL or Emirates, you will see more beautiful if not stunning stewardess.

All I am saying is that SIA is no longer delivering the image and perception they wish to potray of the Singapore girl and even if my foreign friends and clients think they do not mind paying for that, I am definitely not.

The service is still excellent on SIA but I just want to let my fellow Singaporeans know that there are better options out there, with better services, prices and mileage system.

I am just going to bitch about The Bar. That is the Alfresco bar overlooking the Garden. They had about 5 waitresses scurrying around looking busy but it does not stop the service from being ridiculously slow.

For some strange reason, the waitresses also never seem to notice your empty glasses. It will take at least 5 minutes each time before they notice our waving arms in the air. And that, may I repeat, is with an army of waitresses attending to the Alfresco Bar.

The ambience was not too bad but the poor service was enough to turn me off that establishment for good. The drinks were also slightly overpriced but that would have been overlooked if the service was on par as I would be more than happy to pay for the time spent there.

But will I want to go to the restaurant after this? I think not. I don't think I even want to go back to the bar again.

I love the place by the virtue of its location already. It's all too convenient to walk up to Artfriend after browsing for ideas at the Japanese Craft section at Kinokuniya.

The shop is well stocked and although the staff do not get any award for being friendly, they are certainly not rude at either. Most importantly, they are all very well equipped with answers if you have a question on where to locate certain items or if one a product is suitable for use on your craft project.

On the whole, I am always happy to be there.
