I was lured here with the promise of great pizzas. I was told that the pizzas were comparable to the ones I had in Italy. Now how is anyone supposed to turn away from such an alluring promise?
We started the dinner with an appetizer of Mozzarella and Parma ham. This particular course was listed under the Specials of day and so I will assume it is not always available.
A pity it is not because I had truly enjoyed this course and was quite grateful to the waitress who had advised us against ordering another course of appetizer as the portion was good enough for two to share.
With a great start to the dinner, I was waiting for my my pizza with glee and anticipation. But sad to say, this is where I felt really let down by the whole dining experience.
The pizza we had ordered, on top of not having a great crust ( a must for me when it comes to pizzas), also comes with a bland, tasteless base. While the toppings were fresh and delicious, no amount of its freshness was actually able to make up for the bland almost bread like base.
I felt like the whole dining experience was a roller coaster ride that night, with all the anticipation building up with that beautiful mozzarella and then almost hitting rock bottom with the pizza that tasted like it needed salt.
The wine selection was also pathetic. I would have expected a lot more from an Italian restaurant.
I might give it a second try but I will probably make my way there with a lot less enthusiasm this time. Unless maybe they have the mozzarella special again for that day.
I had a meeting at Plaza Singapura today. Not quite sure what to eat, I took a walk around the basement. Saybons caught my eye with its numerious newspaper clippings. On closer look... hey the girl on the newspaper (who's also the owner) is behind the counter cooking herself! Not really much of an excuse not to try is there?
I ordered a Mushroom soup and a Ham and Cheese Crepe. While my soup was served immediately in a paper cup, the waiting time for the crepe was around 8 minutes. Not exactly the grab and go counter I was expecting!
But with time to spare, I took a seat at the counter and waited for my crepe. I started sipping on my soup which I found too be a little too bland. I was a little disappointed with the taste since I had built up very high expectations from reading all the food reviews it had up at its store.
Do not get me wrong, you can tell that a lot of work has gone into making the soup fresh (unlike the instant ones you get everywhere else!) but the taste is just flat.
My crepe turned out to better than the soup. I was not blown away by it but I did enjoy it and not feel like it is an absolute waste of my stomach space.
At $7.70 for both items, I think the food is reasonably priced. What I also like about them is that they take great efforts in packaging their items. No expenses is spared to brand their products in good quality disposables.
I will definitely give it another try and see if it blows me away the next time.
Be warned. Reservations have to be made a week in advance to dine at this establishment on the weekend.
It was easy to understand why. The restaurant is best describe as mid sized and while other restaurants will be packing in their diners like a canned sardines, Kha was comfortably spaced, so you do not need to feel uncomfortable whispering sweet nothings to your date.
Service on the whole was good. We had asked for Al fresco seating but were seated in the restaurant instead. When we insisted that we would like to sit outdoors, they promptly set out to make arrangements. The very kind waiter even insisted on carrying my bag and shopping bags out to my new table for me. I have to say that's a first in Singapore.
I was a little overwhelmed when the menu came. The place was obviously not the traditional thai restaurant. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to order a starter and main for myself like at a western restaurant or if we could still share our courses like a regular asian meal. Fortunately the waitress was very helpful in offering information on the portioning of the food even without us asking.
The food they served is a contemporary fusion of Thai and modern. Our starter of salmon on pomelo was a pleasant combination of savory on citrusy sweet with a hint lemon grass fragrance. The Tom Yum soup we had was good but average.
We decided on a Thai Red Duck Curry and a Grilled Prawn Curry. Both was delicious. I liked the fact that the spice level is not watered down to suit to tastebuds of the large expat crowd they had there.
On the whole, the sceptic in me (I never a big fan of asian fusion or modern) was won over. I cannot say that it is the best thai food I have had but I can definitely say that it is the best Thai Modern that I have tried. Coupled with the ambience and friendly service, Kha has won me over.
The whole idea of spa, is to be able to relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The True Spa offered none of that experience from its location, ambience, service to pushy sales people.
Call me an idiot if you have to. But I spent a good 15 min locating the correct lift that takes me up to the spa. I believe I am not the first nor the last in getting a little lost here. Arriving at the spa feeling frustrated is not a good way to start already.
The moment I step into the spa, I felt like I had just entered True Yoga lounge. I was surrounded by the hustle and bustle of their sales team trying to sell packages to all sorts of different types of customers. There was none of the zen and peace you will expect when you go to a spa.
I had opted for a foot treatment that day. While they seemed to think that their Osim chairs are a plus point, I simply have to beg to differ. I was in discomfort for the whole 45 minutes while having my foot treatment done. The massager simply dug into my bony back, causing me a lot of pain.
While I was grimacing in pain, the other masseurs sat behind me dishing out their life stories to each other. I was devastated that these masseurs, on top of not noticing my discomfort, had to add to my growing resentment by talking so loudly behind me. I swear that by the end of the 45 minutes that I already knew who dumped her boyfriend for which man but really, as juicy as it is, I think these conversations are best kept behind the pantry door.
When my paraffin wax treatment was finally over, I was pushed off to a pushy sales man who tried to make me sign up a package with the spa for 2 years. 2 freaking years!!!
Honestly, running a spa is quite different from selling yoga memberships and unless the management understands that, there is no way I am going to step into True Spa again.

I am rather impressed by how Birdnestfern uses the most common charms and pendants and turn them into something totally whimsical. I have seen those pendants and charms once too often and have always left the beadshops uninspired, preferring to buy my supplies from overseas.
This girl however takes what I do not take a second glance at and turn them into cute little pieces. I totally applaud her for her creativity.
I like the pictures on her blog (word of caution, it makes you want to buy more than you should) and the little polls she has there to ask what her customers want is totally neat!! I think I will be taking a leaf out of her book soon.
The only thing I have to gripe about is the layout of the blog itself. I will prefer if it is categorized and perhaps I am wrong but I am unable to find prices on the blog.
Not sure if I am missing something or if it is really not there.
