    6. Cherry Garden

To reply a comment on Feizhu's review will be too short a comment for me.

    1) Cherry Garden is not a standalone restaurant but located in the hotel so for pricewise, it is obviously expensive like all chinese restaurant in the hotel.

    2) The ambience and food served is definitely better than some of the chinese restaurant.

    3) $38 for set lunch is considered reasonable for a hotel restaurant coz i notice you do have side orders based on your pics posted.

Anyway, I do frequent Cherry Garden quite often and always leave it to the Exec Chinese Chef Hiew to plan the menu for us coz we trust his recommendations.

Your last review was on September 2007. Recently, they hired a Chinese BBQ Chef late last year and do try their Chinese BBQ Roast.

CherryWood Roast Duck was absolutely heavenly to me coz of the crispiness of the skin and the fragrant taste of roast. I have recommended to one of my classmate and her Italian boyfriend simply falls in love with the Beijing Duck.

Try the Char Siew Pork... do ask for Kurobuta Pork coz the taste and texture of the pork is simply deliciously sinful not that the normal pork isn't. BUT if you order Kurobuta Pork then the price is so much difference unless you are going for quality instead of pricing.

The Siew York (Roast Pork) oooooooo... the crisp of the skin simply cracks in your mouth...the siew york taste and flavour simply arouse your taste bud... maybe I am a meat lover so that is why I only crave for meat. But then again, if the taste or quality isn't there I rather go to the wet market or hawker centre to savour instead.

One of my favourite soup is the Hot 'n' Spicy Soup but this might not be a favourite to all due to its spicyness and sourness.

Dining in a hotel usually eats up your pocket with a minimum of $50 for lunch and $70 & above for dinner depending on ala carte or set menu.

But of coz, set is still value for money.

As for the ambience, I SIMPLY agreed with you except that the fact the flooring is not carpeted so you have to bear the "click clack" noise of the high heeled shoes the server are wearing... other than that I have not much comment on the service.

I went there for their dim sum buffet on a weekend. Not too bad, but nowhere near the stuff Li Bai serves up IMHO. :P

I was at the Patara in Tanglin Mall on Friday, 11 Jan 08 for dinner... was not impressed by the food. The Green curry chicken and Red curry beef gravy is so-so... there is too much sweetness in both the gravy. For about $18-$19 per dish is pretty expensive. The sliced meat portion is barely 100-120gm...

My friends and I were astonished that we have to order main dishes before we can enjoy the dessert buffet of $7 per person... meaning if you have 4 people dining all 4 have to choose a main course each before they are entitle to enjoy the dessert... and we queried the manager again if we have a table of 10 do we need to order 10 main course before all 10 of us can have the dessert buffet and the answer is affirmative....

Can you imagine besides mains we also would like to order some salad or soup. how are we to finish so many dishes if we were to crave for some Thai desserts.

BTW, the dessert spread is quite pathetic on that day. Not much home-made Thai dessert very limited besides the fresh fruit platter and jackfruit platter.

There are lemongrass creme brulee which i believe is not authentic Thai. Probably their focus is on ala carte dessert. Our suggestion is to waive off the buffet if there isnt much variaties....

We tried the Deep-fried whole garoupa with 3 sauces... no doubt about the crispness of the garoupa fillet but the chefs should be more careful to remove those bones from the fillet which can be quite dangerous for children.

That system of theirs is pretty odd really but I guess it's to make sure that people don't share the buffet. :) Thanks for telling us!

We used to be regulars at Marche practically once a week until lately the standard/quality of the food has slackened abit.

We understand that Vilage has taken over Marche, Management and staffs all remains the same. Even with the change of name, it does not do the business any good as before.

Rosti and Caesar Salad has been my favourite but of late the toppings seems to shrink... if you know what I meant.

BTW, I heard that the outlet in Heeren is closing soon probably end of this year..... Haiz!...what a waste for they have been in this industry for so long (just ignore the name changed though)....

A cozy establishment tucked away at the junction of Club Street & Mohd Ali Lane.

The bright red logo caught our eyes... and lure us in on a hot afternoon. We had 2 set lunches and I must say Thumbs UP for the quality of the food - value for money @ $25 per person.

I had Salad of Vine Tomato. Zucchini. Crisp Fennel, Fresh Herbs & Balsamic Olive Oil as a starter, the sweetness of the vine tomato was just too refreshing. My mains was Duck Leg Confit, Lentil Stew and Mesclun Greens. Duck has always been my favourite. The salted-cured duck was so tasty especially the crisp on the skin - I must say it's sinfully good... the dessert of the day was a refreshing watermelon in cubes with sorbet... that definitely flushed off the "extra fat" from the crispy duck skin.

My colleague had soup of the day ~ Prawn Bisque ~ the bisque was infused with fresh tomatoes, garlic and onion with a tinge of liquer. Her mains was Pan-seared Salmon Fillet Parsley Coulis and Seasonal Vegetables recommended by the server simply melts in the mouth. The doneness was just right and not overcooked.

The ambience and setting was truly soothing and intimate ~ good for lover's nite out dining.

Overall service was good. Worth going back again to try the premium meat as recommended by one of the server.
