There are several coffee brands and several outlets of each brands in the CBD. When I crave for a drink, it’s usually the location that brings me to the store. But this one, I find the service good.

There’s this time, when I ordered a ice-blended. The staff somehow make a wrong flavour ice-blended and only realise it when she check out the orders before serving me. She just ask, is your drink “xxx” (my correct order) and she straight away make me my ice-blended without asking me if I am alright with the wrong order. This, I feel, is about service. Although an even picky customer would expect her to keep apologising for making me wait, but I feel this is the basic that she has met, and prevented me from boycotting the store.

This outlet is at a good location, just above the MRT station and near to 2 foodcourts. Occasionally, I might pop by for a take-away after-lunch drink. But I think the fact that this outlet has relatively more customers, has made the staff forgot that they are in a store that could afford to sell drinks at a premium for its service provided.

There is this time, when I need a breakfast coffee and I remember this outlet which is fairly on-the-way for me in the morning (although I always forgot that it exist), and I went in to get a Frappucino. For my specific taste, I usually request for an “under-blend” Frappucino and this morning, I ask for a Java Chip Frappucino. At the point of taking my order, staff A had to tell staff B about my order and I could repeated hear them saying “under-blend” and “over-blend”. Not wanting my order to be wrong, I told staff B “UNDER-BLEND” and he repeated it, while giving staff A some kind of “its under-blend lah” comments.

When my drink comes, I could feel the liquid moving very smoothly in the plastic container. I asked, is this underblend or overblend? And the staff dares to give me some comments like “it’s the blender”.... Oh dear, what service is this?? Wanting to get off to work earlier, I commented “this is Ice Coffee, not Frappucino” and make my way out. I don’t find any pleas to make me stay and give me another drink (AFTER my black face and comments). As I walk away and take 2 mouthfuls of the drink, I just can’t keep it down. I’m paying so much for an Ice Coffee?? When I got back to the store and said “Either you refund me, or you give me another drink” and I got the answer “Yes, we are making another drink for you”.

What kind of service is this?? The drink should not have come to me in the first place as the staff should at least know how a standard Frappucino looks like as he pours it out of the blender, not to say that I specifically ask for underblend. Next is, if the customer commented on the drink, he should at least give me some apologetic comments like even if he couldn’t exchange my drink. When I make that kind of comments and he could exchange my drink, he should stop me from leaving and not make me come back into the store and make those kind of demands before he exchange my drink. The next time I want a breakfast drink from Starbucks, sorry but this store is out of my radar forever.

I just went yesterday to the Bugis branch, but its gone now. Guess I have concluded (to myself) correctly when I went to try it out the first time round.

Actually, the food is a good concept, rice balls that can be eaten on the road and comes with non-traditional fillings like cheese. The availablity of a choice of normal or brown (healthy) rice, is also in line with the current trend of healthy living.

But I just feel that this concept doesn't work in Singapore. Compared to the Korean snacks a few stalls away, taiwanese snacks has little (or lost) its appeal in Singapore. The price of this rice ball (around 4 inch long, 2 inch wide), is also too high (around $3 plus) for a take-away snack.

They try to packaged it as a trend-food (with all the cuties faces drawn on the pictures of the riceballs, but without much adver around to create awareness, its unlikely to create any much hoo-ha over it.

Taste wise, I would probably accept it if I am having it in a nice cosy foodcourt or corner eating it. But eating it on the go with my fingers potentially getting oily, it just taste “normal” to me. Nothing fantastic.

I wanted to book a Star Cruise holiday under one of their promotion. As I have a choice of going to their HQ at Park Mall or going to one of their authorised agents, I chose Five Stars Tours for the simple reason that it is near our place and it does not have any negative reputation know to us.

I went on a Sat morning, before it even open. We waited while the only staff open the doors and prepare to start operations. The staff was quite calm when she see us, which I wonder if I should praise her for not showing us a black face (since she barely switch on her PC and we are already waiting outside “pressuring” her) or whether I should complain that she did not smile at all while serving us. But she did her job by going through all the necessary information with us.

As I forgot to bring my Worldcard, I was told that I could go back another day to allow them to credit the points to my Worldcard. Subsequently, we went to outlet at Golden Mile to ask for the points to be credited. According to the points system, I could get 1 point for every dollar spent, but the staff at Golden Mile said we could only get max 400 points. It was never mentioned in any of Five Stars Tours or Worldcard’s brochure. Not satisfied, I went back to the Tampines outlet and ask for the points again. This time, I got the full points with no questions asked (only asked for my card to make a photocopy and also my invoices).

            2008 CNY:

We went to this restaurant twice, both for CNY lunch gathering. For the first one, we had it in one of the rooms where we get a small view of the kitchen, the preparation area and our room is linked to the kitchen, so we could smell the food before it reaches us.

I like their Yu Sheng, as they have added pomelo (and good that they use the not-sour type) and gold sheets.

If you are like Tung Lok's Humble house, but is tired of going to the same outlet, try this restaurant. They also go for fusion. As for pricing, I got no idea how comparable they are, but my 2nd time at this restuarant, I paid $85 for my set lunch.

I'm never there outside of CNY lunches, but I heard that for CNY lunches, they actually extended the tables out to the hotel's lobby (i.e. you definitely need to book and I was told that set lunches will be served faster), so the restaurant should look better during non-CNY days.

            2009 CNY:

This time round, we only have 8 persons, so we could only get a table in their main hall (10 persons to get a table in the individual rooms). We were quite unhappy with their service this time round, as our dishes took very-very long to be served. This is despite that we already book the individual standard meal (per their claim that they can prepare the food faster) and we keep chasing them to serve the dishes. In the end, by the time the dessert was finally served, we quickly finish the food and simply run off as we are very late for work!!
