I don’t get to go often, although I like mushroom a lot, as my friends have no craving for it. Furthermore, their locations (at OG Orchard, Kallang etc) is usually not where we will go for dinner.
The first time I went (yrs ago), we concluded that the 2-person mushroom hotpot (with choice of meats or seafood or veg) is actually suffient for 3 persons, if you get a few of their side dishes.
Just recently I went again, they actually have ala carte buffet hotpot which was a good choice for a super-late lunch (we had to pay the dinner price as the afternoon price will only allow us to eat for another 30 mins) and we can skip dinner after that. Just that the price for 2 was $72.85 without drinks (still have ice water) nor extra side dishes.
The service was acceptable, just that they didn’t quite give me a chance to pick what I wanted and just served me a full tray of items, luckily even the veg are acceptable ones for us. We ordered another round of some meats and yup, we were served without given black faces.
For the side dish, I loved their fried monkey mushroom and the cold drunken chicken. And of course the many many types of mushroom in the hotpot. We also tried the Mala soupbase, which was so spicy, that we only dip our food in for a little while for the taste.
As a co-operative, their aim was not really to earn and retain profits, so their pricing is generally lower than the other insurance companies. Plus they have all those no-frills policies, like send you an email for you to print out the birthday vouchers you prefer or even like booking your travel insurance policy online. But I suspect one of their savings is from paying their insurance agents lesser. But the ones I met from NTUC Income does not seems as aggressive as from the other insurance companies. So sometimes I wonder where is the breakdown in linkage....
But if you were to buy insurance from NTUC Income, you got to really compare the payouts as well. They tend to set lower premiums for lower coverage. Good if you just want a min coverage, but not good if you actually need the high ones and they don’t provide. Like recently, I need to buy a travel insurance and they actually do not offer protection for skiing. Their coverage for my usual plan is pretty low for the risks (to me) of this trip, so I had to buy their deluxe plan instead (well, maybe the part on having a choice is actually a plus point).
I was told by a friend that she actually compare the healthcare insurance of the different insurance companies and concluded that NTUC Income is the cheapest. Recently I was looking at their accident plans and thought the same too, wondering if I should changed my accident plan to be with NTUC Income.
However, got to take note that I don’t want to end up with too many policies with the same insurance company, else something like the AIG/AIA situation pops up, I would be at a loss....
According to their website, True Yoga is in the same group as the True Spa that had so many bad reviews on Yebber. However, me and my friends have yet to experience those bad ones that the others had on True Spa. Just warned my friends not to sign up for any plans with True Spa, in case of being promoted by True Yoga.
I am just a beginner with Yoga, so I always go to their Gentle Yoga class which have many slots, from the morning 7am slot (leaving me just in time for work) to the lunch break (around 12.15pm) to the after-work (7pm or later). For the morning slots, I can just walk-in as the class is usually just half full (almost always ladies only). I was told that the lunch-break slot is also walk-in. But the 7pm slots is definitely reservation-required and must be 2 days in advance, and I meant reserve in the morning of the 2 days in advance, because by 11am, it would be all full.
However, I am very irritated by their sales / system.
I paid for a 1-yr single-session-per-week plan and was told I could come for 2 times a week despite the plan specifying single session. It made me worried that one of those 2nd-time of the week visits will get be barred at any time the receptionist decide to.
They have member cards and need time to make it for me. However, when I tried to ask for my card, they claim that my membership was transferred according to the system. I called their admin person who handled my plan payment (the sales person was from the Orchard outlet, so I concluded it would be no use to call her), and I was asked to provide a copy of my passport showing my travel period, as I told her I only made a request to delay my starting of plan by one month and not to transfer to anyone. Then she didn’t call me at all again. After repeat calls (with replies that she is away or at meeting) and leaving messages, I still get no reply. And after repeatedly asking the receptionist whether my member card is ready, I finally got it. Just can’t be bother to chase the admin person again. So that later I got to make sure that my 12 months ended as per what I had instructed (to delay by 1 month).
Another thing they surprise me was that there was one week I actually went for 3 sessions, 2 are walk-ins and 1 is reservation-required, and I didn’t get rejected at all. Isn’t that very stupid of them??
I was told that their Orchard branch has steambath and gym facilities (not sure how the price differs), but not the Raffles branch that I go. But the Orchard branch is out of the way for me, so I only chose the 1-branch plan.
Anyway, they have many types of yoga, even Hot Yoga. So it is not a bad choice.
Last time when it just changed from the Tibs brand to the SMRT brand, they have staggered booking fee, so I always choose them, although there is no diff now.
However, now that I work in CBD and the Comfort booking line was hard to reach, despite the whole blue sea in the taxi waiting area, I still choose SMRT taxi.
On the overall, the experience was great. But there is bad one (not "ones" yet) as well.
There was this day, where as usual, I called a SMRT taxi while waiting at the taxi stand (building lobby). Thru out the waiting time (8-10min), I didnt see my assigned SMRT taxi. I ended up having to ask someone to call for a Comfort taxi using a land line (strange that using mobile line always doesnt seem to connect to Comfort in the CBD area during peak hours - 9pm).
- As I couldnt reach SMRT at all during the wait and the taxi driver didnt call to say he couldnt make it or anything, I emailed SMRT to complain.
- I did get a response from SMRT, via email, saying that the taxi driver picked up the wrong passenger and they have warned the taxi driver for it. In compensation, they gave me 2x$5 vouchers (which I used it on my next SMRT taxi trip).
When I received the email reply, not only was I not pacified, it made me feel guilty. First is, SMRT should have given me a call instead of a cold email and a cold letter with vouchers attached, it just make me feel that their attitude is "customer not happy, give voucher and everything is ok". Next is, they say "we warned the taxi driver and this will be taken into account when renewing the rental agreement with the driver", this made me feel like I am trying to kick the taxi driver out of his job. The whole PR process is just not acceptable to me.
Nevertheless, I guess I will still stay with SMRT for the moment, at least until I start experiencing the same no-taxi-available replies from their booking system.
Any fans of the Hong Kong mooncake (Wing Wah)? They have a distributor in Singapore here!!! They offer DBS/OCBC credit card discount till 2 Sept at their Raffles Xchange and Raffles City sales outlet.
I was in Raffles Xchange, testing out which mooncake is nice, when I saw the lovely box (with a lovely picture) of the snowskin mooncakes of Wing Wah. (I love to collect tins and use them to keep my barang barang, as the outside is easy to clean when dust starts to gather.)
Later, I was told by my colleague that she bought the traditional mooncake from HK once when she happen to be holidaying during the period, and everyone finds it tasty.
So just went to buy last Friday. Other than the nice tin for the snowskin mooncake, they are so thoughtful to have icebag (with the same lovely picture) for the mooncake and I could carry it over my shoulder. Not like the hotels where my snowskin mooncake became so soft by the time I got home.
Their sales person is also nice, doesn't even give me black face as I told them to separate the bill only after they have swipe my card and also I keep changing my mind about whether I want to pick up my snowskin mooncake immediately or after work.
You could go to their website and download the order form to check out the full list of the available mooncakes. But I want to highlight that they have Low Sugar White Lotus Paste Snowskin and Low Sugar White Lotus Paste With Double Yolks, for any of you who has specific dietary preferences.
Their snowskin has a 4 different combinations of flavours, giving 1 or 2 of each of these: blueberry cheese, chocolate pearls with Pandan, Mocca Chocolate, Mango, Strawberry, Red Bean and many more. Each combination comes in a box with a lovely picture on top and in different shapes.
Have attached a few photos, taken from the sales outlet and taken from home. (If you are buying the traditional as gift, I must say the box/tin doesn’t appeal to me at first glance. But for the snowskin one is definitely an attraction to the kids, esp since the dog pic is also embraved onto the mooncake)
$money$said: update: the sweetness of snowskin was acceptable, even to my mum (we tried milk choc with chestnut). the skin was also thin and blend in with the paste. no powdery taste of some snowskin 02 Sep 2008 at 8:41 am
