I haven't gone to the restuarant before, but I don't have a good impression of it, now that I just bought their mooncake.

Was initially attracted by the Chef's man-sized-poster that the sales outlet have. It was one of the chef who went on TV program which had Sam Leong. Had a pretty good feeling initially.

But the good feeling I had about it got tanished, not that their mooncake taste awful, since I am only going for their traditional type and that can't go too wrong. But I am not happy with their service. I was at Raffles Xchange on Friday during lunch and they were offering a 30% discount on cash-and-carry. Already intended to buy the mixed nuts for my mum, partly for the mid-aug praying to the ancestors. But I was hoping I could have a mix-&-match with 2 plain ones, since not the whole family eat mixed nuts. I was told that I will be charged at the max price of $50 before disc (after disc will be $35) as I am getting a mix, although the mixed nuts and the plain ones are selling at lower price per box of 4 each. I wanted to tell the person that I should be charged at the highest price of my choice (mixed nut) and not at the highest choice of their options. I know I don't have much say in this, but the last thing I want is a black face staff telling me "it is already very cheap after the 30% discount, you go elsewhere you can't get it at such price". She is just short of telling me, 'if you don't want, then don't buy lah'.

Note: the staff is not a student-age nor a Chinese-national, so I am presuming she is a perm staff of the restaurant.

Too lazy to rethink my options of which other brands/hotels to get my mixed nuts from, I just say ok. The crowd behind me was so packed and noisy that I forgot to double check that I am getting the right mooncakes: when I got home, I saw 2 mooncakes with "wu" and 2 mooncakes with "dan" characters. Double disappointed. Am I getting the egg yolk which is more expensive?? I didn't ask for that!!!

Now, I just hope that my mum don't come and tell me that the mixed nuts taste awful. Else, I am not going to trust one of those gone-on-TV chef again.

I don't think its very fair to judge a restaurant's food based on the service you got while buying mooncakes at Raffles Xchange.

F&B industry is not just abt food. The fact that they put out the chef's photo, is part of the trick to attract people. If their service is not on par with its image, then just too bad.

After watching so many Korean dramas and seeing the people eating the rice cakes along the roadside stores, I always wanted to try it out. But I never get a chance to try it out in Korea, so I liked to try out the rice cakes in the restaurants in Spore. Sad to say, not many offered Korean rice cakes.

I was initially attracted to the Korean stall in Wisma Food Republic as it offered the pork slices with cabbage. Like it that the cabbage is cooked and there are kimchi vege (think is raddish strips) to go with it.

But just recently when I went, they now offer Korean rice cakes!! The kimchi paste has soaked into the rice cake, making it tasty. But I must say I prefer a more watery paste (like the one in Taka basement food hall) and less spicy.

The bibimbap was nice (where bibimbap is usually dependant on the bean paste on top). We also had the Korean Ginseng Chicken, although that was the one that blew my budget.

(I wonder if there are any restaurant in Spore that add mee sua to the Ginseng Chicken soup, I had it in Korea with a cup of ginseng wine added to it. But I guess I can only have Ginseng Chicken and cross-the-bridge-mee-sua in separate restaurants hereā€¦)

My first advice on going bintan, is to ask if you can pay them in SGD and if allowed, bring SGD with you to pay for the room, meal, massage etc. They quoted me SGD amounts for whatever items, but when they bill me in INR, they used a pretty bad rate and thus my bank converted to a higher SGD.

This resort in Bintan is nice. The bus ride only some 10mins. And you can take their resort bus just 1 hour before ur ferry departure time, if you change for the boarding pass on the day before, at the hotel counter.

We book their Resort Hotel rooms which is just next to the swimming pool and reception. If you book their other chalets or villas or the beach chalets, you can still use their facilities here. Some of them are linked by the beach and the furthest (and most expensive) can be linked by their golf buggy or fetched by bus/car on request. [I have already decided that if I am going back again, I will go for their beach chalets which is much cheaper, and then use the same facilities.]

Their pool is so nice, with the view being perfect. From a distance, the pool looks like it stretches out to the sea. From within the pool, I could stay at the side and face the nice sea.

The massage is standard, at a slight premium, but their packages are just right for a destress holiday. The body massage is located at another location and they will send you by car. The shoulder massage and hair spa and mani/pedi, is located near the reception.

Their 2 restaurants near the reception serves buffet for dinner and around $38 effective. So for our 2nd night dinner, we went for Korean promo set dinner and its only around $15 per person.

This is the first time I went for a leisure cruise trip. (I've being to a ship where their purpose was gambling, gambling and gambling - relax, we went because we heard that for $20, we can have as much food as we want in their restaurant and they have cheap jackpot to satisfy me....)

I went to Star Cruise with so much hope, not for the casino (since they don't focus their advertising on it) but for the 6-meals-a-day and the swimming pool and jaccuzi.... but they ALL disappoint me!!!

The 6-meals-a-day include morning and afternoon teabreak which are barely just juices, coffee, 1 or 2 variety of cakes/pastry. Where is the "6 meals"??

I wasn't expecting an olympics sized pool, but at least not something just outside the windows of their Chinese Restaurant!! Imagine me swimming with my fats and the others with oil on their mouth and watching me while they eat..... And I don't see a towel counter near the pool.

For the jaccuzi, indoor indeed. Just next to the bar counter AND the outdoor bbq restaurant!!! And mind you, the jaccuzi is levelled-up and those in the jaccuzi seems to be showcased.

Their casino, it took up a whole floor, with plenty of jackpot for me.... and to suck up my $$.

I was hopping that in the event I had nothing to do, I could go and watch movie. But it ended that the movie is shown once a day, near midnight. Do they have a cinema in Star Virgo?? The one in Star Aquarius, is made-do from their big performance stage.

Finally, I thought, no swimming nevermind, but I can still have sauna/steambath. But no, I still didn't use it. Cos they say I got to pay $5 for it!!! What? I'm not even asking for a massage service.

At least we still have the karaoke and the staff there didn't give us a black face when 3 of us just paid for 1 drink and we sang a few songs ask for warm water.

Conclusion: The next time I want to go to Star Cruise, I will think not just twice, but thrice!!

This shop was featured on Ch8 / ChU and that was why my parents pulled me along to try out the cheap delicacies. I tried to go once during working hours, but it was really a long walk alone Circular Road, from UOB Plaza: It is really deep inside. But the seating was ok, not totally full, but still quite a good turnout.

We tried the Braised Whole Abalone with Spinach Beancurd Set. Ok, at $12.50, the side is acceptable (small for me as a dish). The spinach beancurd (beancurd with a layer of smashed spinach on top of it) is unique, but not to my taste (don't quite like spinach's taste).

On another occasion, I had the Fish Maw Pottage with Rice Set. It was very long since I had Fish Maw Pottage in CBD area. It's quite a raw item in Food Court at a reasonable price. This is $5.50 and since the set comes with a dessert (Qing Tang - in addition to the menu's stated Chinese Tea)

But please, avoid the Shark's Fin & Scallops & Scrambled Egg Set. At $5.50, the price is good. But for this price, the shark's fin has to be put on top of the scrambled egg to give you the "there is shark's fin" impression. And knowing how shark's fin is like (tasteless by itself), the dish turn out just like plain scrambled egg. I couldn't get my friends to go back again because of this dish.

One of the standard tricks, they give out a stamp for every $10 purchases and 10 stamps give you a Free Buddha Jumps Over the Wall Set (my Dad loves this set and I think it has a small Abalone).
