We were looking for after-dinner dessert in the area and we ended up with Cafe Cartel as we saw their after-9pm promotion while we were deciding between the different outlets on the 2 side of the road.
I didn’t have a good impression of Cafe Cartel, due to past experience with their big-serving ribs which is cheap but nothing tasty. But to our surprise, the dessert were good (and now doubly good due to the 50% discount after-9pm promotion).
We ordered cakes and ice-cream. As the 50% discount also applied to snacks and takeaways, one of us also ordered takeaway supper.
I had the Paradise De Chocolate which is mainly cookies and cream ice-cream, stuffed into a narrow tall glass (so each scoop remains thick and does not appear to melt away as fast). The banana chocolate cake (it looks more like triple chocolate cake due to its entire-dark colour) and the caramel tiramisu were great too, according to my friends.
The place was pretty noisy, as their target customers were mainly teenagers (who care more for pricing and size, rather than tastiness) who came in groups and were all chatting away. But luckily for the timing (after 9pm) and the location (not in a busy shopping mall), there wasn’t a queue building up and so we were allowed to chit chat after all our food were finished.
I like this outlet the most among the ones I've patronised.
Their cashier counter staff have the best smile and he would explain (with patience) to customers who asked about difference between the drinks. Other outlets I often feel that I owe a million dollars to the cashier counter staff (they gave the me "black face" look).
Note that this outlet is the only one I know (among the ones I've patronised) that has a sitting area. Others I have to find myself a standing spot in front of the collection counter and usually there's a lot of people also waiting there, not in a queuing order.
This outlet has 2 number-display panel, 1 at the collection area and 1 at the sitting area in front of the cashier counter.
I went one day after the weekday lunch hour so the place only had 2 or 3 other tables, so my Hainanese Pork Chop came pretty fast.
I've always seen this item on their big-board menu in the other outlets, but I never got to see how "Hainanese" is the dish (I don't remember the printed menu has a photo of it) as I'm usually at the place only when I have a craving for food-court-pricing western food. But today I just happened to be near and so decide to try their famous dish.
I didn't order it as a set (the western sets comes with soup, bread, drink and fruit but I wasn't really hungry for so much that day) and so it came with just a plate of rice and a dish of gravy-filled pork chop.
I came with a lot of onions (there was one that was even a whole piece) which I took some but definitely had a lot of leftovers of it. It was a little spicy, although it must also be because of the chicken-rice-style chilli that they put on the side of the rice. Although I wasn't too hungry, but the gravy goes very well with the rice - the dish has deep fried pork chop and also pineapple, tomato and some kind of fruit (pear? apple?). It just make me crave for more.
Leenie Pigssaid: I love the hainanese pork chop. Did you taste something like fruit inside the gravy.. its like apple or pear or something? I can't figure out what is it.. can you? 03 Jul 2012 at 1:33 pm

We went for their teatime buffet and probably because of the location (most people probably went to the one at Tampines), or because of the day (Thursday), there were hardly any other customers at that timing.
But as they have the self-service ordering system, we did not have to worry that we couldn't get our desired sushi from the conveyer belt - noted that the served all our orders without fail - where the conveyer belt still had a fair amount served, but it seems that the raw stuff are missing probably to ensure their freshness.
We used to love their potato salad, but now because it is priced higher, and hence no longer part of the buffet offerings. But we found a new love : the corn sushi. They grilled the corn and slice out a piece and placed onto the rice. The sweet corn goes well with the sushi rice.
The buffet price includes 1 red plate, 1 pink plate, 1 hot udon, 1 dessert. Not exactly sashimi fans, we ordered the jellyfish and the lobster salad (both red plates) - but both kind of failed our expectation, as they were quite salty by our preference.
One thing I found, either with this outlet or now in general, is that their included hot udon is now in a small bowl. They must have realised that a lot of people can't finish the big bowl after getting so much sushi and sashimi.
We got a cup ice-cream as the dessert. Not a bad ending to our heavy teabreak.
Leenie Pigssaid: seems like they don't have a good selection for buffet! I used to enjoy only the sashimi and the advocado salmon sushi in sakae sushi 02 Jul 2012 at 2:31 am

I bought my package after getting a free trial session some time ago. After the trial session, I felt that the treatment is identical to one of those that they offer at Jean Yip, but eventually I still sign up with them as they were offering me a slightly lower price and since I already had a different treatment (more expensive range) at Jean Yip, I decided to also buy a package (cheaper range) here.
For those sessions that I went, the staff never tried to get me to upgrade to a more expensive range or ask me to add another different range. So that's considered a plus point for me.
However, for those sessions that I went, I could not feel the "specialist" in them, maybe because the staff are more "wash hair girl" rather than hair stylist (they don't offer hair cut etc over here).
When I first signed up the package, they claim that they are "different" from the treatments offered at Jean Yip (Oriental belongs to Jean Yip chain) as their staff will look at my hair condition each time and alter the ingredients (eg to treat white hair, or dandruff, or losing hair). But their staff never bother to ask about my hair condition or tell me that they are doing something specific for that session. But since I am happy with the overall treatment which includes head massage, and I could feel that regular treatments keep my hair in a better condition, so I'll still rate it as ok.
