I visited that place for their buffet dinner. $22.90 for Mondays to Fridays and $24.90 for Weekends. No special promotion available for credit cardholders.
It is ala-carte buffet, so it is free flow of everything except for their Mango Pudding and Shark's fin soup, which is one bowl per person only and not available for kids below 3 years old.
I must comment that their Shark's fin soup taste like soup without the shark's fins.
Tried the cold dish combination. Only 3 items (Ngor Hiang, Prawn Salad, Jellyfish with cucumber). The huge gaps left on the plate makes the dish very empty upon serving.
Their boiled fresh prawns are really fresh, but so sad they took very long to cook up each dish. I only get to tried the dish 3 times. Tried Fried shrimps w/thousand island sauce. Not bad.
Tried Stirfried fresh scallops w/celery and Deep fried scallops w/Yam. The fresh scallops are nice, while the for the deep fried ones, you almost can't taste the scallops.
Tred Deep fried marble-goby w/soya sauce. Very oily, it is like eating fried flour.
Tried chicken wrapped in special paper. Very oily too, and the meat is not tender. Chicken sticked to the paper.
Tried Fried Pork Tendon w/XO Sauce, very nice. Feel like eating sea cucumber. Also tried Baked pork ribs in sweet sauce. The sauce tasted weird, while pork is still ok, not tough.
Deep fried beancurd w/thai sauce's beancurd is tasteless, you really need the sauce to go with it. Deep fried twisted fritters w/mayonnnaise is very oily. Strong aftertaste after trying that dish.
Braised ee-fu noodles w/yellow chives is nice, except that it is quite dry.
I like the desserts best. Dessert of the day is something similar to barley cooked in coconut milk. Very nice. Mango pudding is so-so. Cold Sago Cream w/mixed fruits tasted more like dilute solution with sago and fruits.
Staff is friendly, but takes very long to serve the dishes. Some patrons actually order a list of dishes way in advance, to avoid having to wait for the next dish.
I like this outlet as it has wide retail space, offers more items for purchase.
Detest it when they has salegirls and the salegirls approaches you to buy off their item.
Meanwhile, there was this time I was making a purchase using Citibank 10% promotion. The cashier seemed unwilling to give me discount, kept repeating that discount is only for purchases above $50, when mine was obviously above $50.
I always prefer Cathay Cineplexes over Golden Village Cineplexes.
The Cathay cineplex is the best among all. As pointed out by many, the crowd there is not as huge as those at the other cineplexes (even the non-town area ones). This makes it a great place to enjoy a day of pure movie entertainment, without having to squeeze being big crowds and long queues. I like the idea of having many counters at different levels of the building (Cathay Cineleisure does that too). This disperse the crowd and shortens the queue by a lot.
I like the snacks counter. I always find food at Cathay more attractive than at Golden Village. Like their sweetened popcorn.
The seats at The Cathay are spacious and quite clean compared to Golden Village. The seats are like armchairs, don't result in you having neck pains after the show.
Perhaps Cathay can also introduce a movie club scheme like Golden Village does, and let us all Cathay supporters benefit from the scheme. :)
This is a tribute to the place, since it is no longer serving the public at the current moment..
I went there to celebrate a brithday. I had reserved a table a month in advance. The receptionist there were attentive to customers' needs. Two weeks or so before the actual dining date, I receive a call from there to check what occasion is the dinner for. When I say it was for a birthday, the receptionist actually ask what to state on the cake which they are giving free. I don't get the same kind of attention when I visit Shangri-la or Pan Pacific.
The meal wasn't really that expensive, given the location. I spent $100 for two persons. Took a seafood and a steak set (can't remember exactly the name). Ordered a fruit punch too besides the mineral water. The chef actually prepare the food in front of you, which is nice. And yes it is sweet that the singers go around the place with their guitars etc. playing songs as per your request. There was UOB credit card discount during then too.
I must say, I really miss the time I spent at the place. The food, the staff, the ambience were all unforgettable. When is Top of the 'M' coming back?

Not very worth it, for the price paid for.

I love their Deer meat Claypot rice the best. $12.
Food is steaming hot when served. Also like to order their Tom Yam Seafood Claypot noodle and barley drink.
