Regretfully, this is one of the worst dining experinces at buffets I ever had.

I went for the dinner buffet on a weekend and sadly, the cons tipped the pros..

The hot section reveals the following items-
1.Black Pepper Chicken Meat was rough and the skin bland.
2.Baked Fish-this too was bland and was the usual dory fish
3.Pan fried beef- okay, but not memorable. Kind of coffeshop standard.

The salad section pulled an interesting one- there was octopus salad with tang hoon, like those found in Japanese sushi. The Dessert section was no better, though there was a charming apple pie topped with strawberry and grapes. The chocolate brownie and strawberry cheesecake were not addictive at all. There is an assortment of nonya kuehs, which I am not interested.

Outside the ambience was nicer-though way hotter than the air-conditioned interior, thehumid night air stinging my neck. The foodhere is better- there was teppanyaki and BBQ, which features prawns, beef, squids and chicken. The BBQ squids came in reasonable slabs while the teppanyaki ones are in skimpy rings which provided no bite. The teppanyaki prawns are juicy but small..there is a lok lok section too where you can dip all those sticks inside the boiling soup..

When it was time to go there was prawn dumplings and siew mai..

Generally not worth the money, after UOB discount it is $20

They have this April promotion of all cupcakes at $2.50 and since everybody is saying that their dessert rocks, I decide to splurge a little and try the cream cheese and carrot cake.

Quite addictive actually, the cream cheese whipped nicely on top with a tangy kick to it and a snug slice of lemon lying on top.

The carrot cake was similar to other carrot cakes, with just the right amount of sweetness and its totally wholesome.

I didnt experience poor service though. The way they box it up and put it it that cute( but huge) plastic bag is definately cool. And that may just justify the $2.50 price for such a miniscule cupcake.

What food promotions do to me.

Due to the ongoing Citibank Gourmet Pleasures promo( they've extended it to end April 09), I am the most tempted to drop by Xiao Xuan Feng and with the tantalising discount of 50%( food only), how could I say no?

The place isnt exactly posh but it certainly has an old world charm. My total bill came up to only $16.50 for a table of 2. Here is what we've ordered-

        1. Fried onion La Mian ( springy noodles, not too oily, with a bowl of soup accompanying it )
        2. Pan fried dumplings ( the picture showed a prawn nestled inside the chive and meat filling, but no matter how hard I dig also cannot find it. Liked the crisp base and smooth dough though. Delicious!)
3.Fried durian puffs ( for those who love those slivers of durian flesh, you are in for a disappointment. The filling consists of only rather mashy durian purree, but taste good when hot)
4.Spicy chicken ( this is horrible. The chicken is cold and there is not much kick to it.)

The dumplings and la mian are a must try! Skip the chicken though..overall the food pricing is reasonable and the food fulfilling.

One of my new favourite spots to grab a quick bite!

I am hopelessly addicted to the mix and match concept and here is my personal favourite..

        Bread: Honey Oat
        Filling: Tuna
Sauce: Honey Mustard w/ Sweet onion
Vegetables: Onions ( they come in crunchy thin rings ),lettuce( my fav.),tomatoes( I will always ask for more-they are always sweet) and cucumber for the added crunch

However, I find the tuna a tad too salty for my liking, but overall, it would always make me hungry.

P.S I can never taste the cheese :C

Getting the hotel room at a rock bottom price of $10 during the paywhatyouwant promotion( and this is Singapore! ), I was wary of the type of room I would get. Right above the lobby? Smoking floor?

My fears were thankfully unfounded. I got a room on the 14th floor ( the highest is 16) and the view was generally okay, pretty good compared to the others who said they got a view of the CBD. The hotel is not at some far flung, remote area in Singapore and the best thing is it is right smack in the heart of Bugis with the MRT station only a mere 7 min walk away.

The hotel is brand new ( It was only opened in Feb 2009) and sheets are stainless (a rare sight in hotels) and a bonus is surprisingly, the body soap. Mine comes in an organic orange flavor and is resembles those soaps from The Body Shop...cute. It had this pleasant citrus scent which tops all the usual miniature hotel soaps.

The furnishings are minimal, but every inch of space is maximized and I found the bubble refrigerator pleasing and the boutique hotel style is so evident in the room, all bright and the queen sized bed all white and spotless that I was secretly hugging myself at clinching it at such a steal.

The bathroom is a tad too small, but I really liked the glass paneled doors that separates the shower from the toilet bowl, however scary feel it jerk when I tried to close it clumsily ( you have to place a refundable $50 deposit upon check in and if anything breaks..haha)

For those who like to check their makeup or simply prim, there is a full length mirror just outside the bathroom..and since the location is amazingly smack right in the midst of Bugis ( and Orchard is blissfully nearby)..the possibilities are endless!

Right now the introductory price I think is about $138 ...I would upload the photos later..
