Peaking Duck   Oat Fried Prawns   Coffee pork Ribs   Chilli Crab   Beef Yee Mee
I have never known that in such an "ugly" and "ulu" building, otherwise known as the NTU Alumni House near the Rochester Park, there is such a good hidden deal. I always wonder how this chinese restaurant have managed to survive until now. During dinner time, there was like only 2 tables occupied, how on earth did they managed to keep their cashflow healthy? Nevertheless, there are quite a lot of attractive promotions going on currently (eg: $8.80 a dish and 50% off for crabs), and most of their dishes are not that bad. If you are looking for some cheap place to dine in with a quiet environment, here is one recommendation. =)

    Peaking Duck
The meat are cooked to just the right tenderness such that it still maintain its "springy-ness" when you are chewing it in your mouth. It is a must to dap the whole roll in the sauces provided to achieve an enriching sensation that will keep you coming back for more. The essence of the whole dish, which is the skin, is nicely smoked to just the right degree!! When you start chewing them, juices hidden in between the skin will start slowly oozing out which I guarantee that you will relish every moment of it.

    Mushrooms with Vegetables
The mushrooms in this simple average dish are nicely cooked such that they are all tender and soft. The sauces provided goes well with the blend vegetables which is not at all salty. In my opinion, this is an average dish which you can easily get at any other restaurant, and I considered it a bit too expensive at $8.80 a dish.

    Oat Fried Prawns
The prawns are either a bit overcooked or that they are not that fresh. When I started biting into the flesh of the prawn, I find them a bit too soggy for my liking. Other than that, the overall dish is still considered ok. Their shell are fried to the extent that they are brittle and easily chewed up and they have done a good job in removing the intestines of the prawn (which most of the restaurant don't even bother).

    Coffee Pork Rib
An interesting dish consisting of pork ribs stir-fry in coffee sauce. Giving credits to their creativeness and unique combination, however, the skills of the cook have let them down. I find that the pork ribs are too overcooked and too hard for my liking. The meat are hard to separate from the bones and I find them too dry. Definitely not worth the money to spend on this dish.

    Chilli Crabs
On picture, the whole presentation of the dish looks nice, however when you start eating, apart from the crabs, everything else falls below my expectation. The sauces used is a real major disappointment. Not only that they taste like satay sauce (really no kidding), but the sauces are all too watery. These 2 major faults totally kills all enthusiasm that I have for the crab. I recommend that you gives this a miss at all cost.

    Beef Yee Mee
At last, a more decent dish. The beef in this dish are all nicely marinated. Put them together with all the supporting ingredients, each of their individual favours are all nicely mixed around to give off a unique experience and taste. I think it is quite hard for me to fully describe it, you will have to taste it for yourself to know what I meant. A recommended dish by me.

For their service, I find that their staffs are all professionally trained. Empty and half full cups are filled up promptly without asking and the dishes are all quick to arrive (within 10 minutes) of ordering. Thumbs up for their work and effort!

Chocolate Fondue 1   Chocolate Fondue 2
For dessert, I and my class decided to visit Haagen Dazs to try on their chocolate fondue. Overall, I find that it is an interesting experience, dipping the food, especially the ice-cream in the warm chocolate, watching it hardened due to the coldness of the ice-cream and eating it in one big mouthful!! Haha, but truly speaking, the food is just average. For 16 scoops of mini ice-cream; slices of bananas, green apples and straw berries; chocolate brownies and cookies, set at a price of almost $50 a set, I find that it is quite expensively charged. In addition, you have to remember to finish the ice-cream quickly (recommended under 10 minutes) or else risk seeing it turning into a puddle of melted mess. =p Luckily for me, the whole class decided to chip in to share the cost so.... it is just all right. If you are interested to try for experience sake, I recommend that you have at least 5 people sharing a set, or else, you probably should give it a miss as there are other nicer food on the menu other than the fondue.

For their service, I find that they are acceptable and meet my expectation. Waitress promptly shows us to our seats and iced water are quickly filled up if they are half full. Our orders came quickly too (under 10 minutes if my memory didn't failed me).

Too bad my class only tried their chocolate fondue. As I find it too expensively charged and given the food is just average, I had to give it a bad rating (not recommended to order or try it).

         Kaeng Kari Talay   The Menu
I and my class are having our dinner at Thai Express to celebrate the end of our poster symposium. I can't remember the last time I had eaten Thai food but I decided to test my tolerance by ordering their hot and spicy seafood curry - Kaeng Kari Talay. The serving given to me was pretty large and seriously, 1 bowl of puny rice is simply not enough. I ended up ordering 2 bowls of rice and that translates to lots of carbohydrates! Oh no, time to go exercise soon or risk getting fat~ =p The curry is indeed as the menu promises - smooth and rich in flavour tinted with the sweetness from the seafood! The thing that leaves a deep impression in me is their prawns. They are so fresh and cooked to the right timing that they are all extremely springy and juicy!! In addition, once I started eating and mixing the rice with curry, I couldn't stop and crave for more even though my tounge was already burning hot!! The price, in my opinion, was reasonably set at $9.80 and I guarenteed that you will be full when you finished up the meal. The only bad point that I can say about the curry is that I find it a little too salty.

Service wise, I find that the waiter and waitress there are good and up to their job. Empty cups or half-full cups are promply filled up when they walked past us and the timing from placing our order to serving the food are all done in less than 15 minutes. Before payment, they reminded us again if we had any of the promotion cards with us so that we can enjoy the discounts. A job well done indeed.

Lime Juice and Brayani Rice   Spread of dishes
A get-together session with my great ESE class before the mid-term break at Sami's Curry to try out some of the hot Indian delicacy. Prior to trying out the Indian food, I had some reservation as I personally do not like the taste of some of the Indian staffs I had tasted before. Blamed it on the differences in culture, but luckily, my class did not order any of the things I do not like. Hah~

I particularly love their lime juice and their fish head curry, and I strongly recommend that it is a must try dish if anyone ever goes there. The lime juice was quite concentrated and rich in favour, definitely not the diluted kind that you get in most of the restaurant. For the fish head curry, in my opinion, it was not too spicy, and believe me, once you get started, you will not feel like stopping until you have finished the whole dish. The curry was very rich in favour and have an additive after taste that makes you crave for more. Mixed it together with the branyani rice to attain a heavenly taste.

The service was fast and great as it took approximately 15 minutes for our orders to deliver to our tables. The staffs are very customer orientated and they keep asking us with curtesy if we wanted more rice to go with our curry. The ambience in the restaurant was simple and quiet, definitely a great meetup place for groups to spend time with and do catching ups. Altogether, we spent around $20 per person for the meal.

Noble House Restaurant Front Display   Guest room deco   Buffet Spread   Yu Shen
I went to this restaurant on 23/01/09 for a class reunion dinner. To get to the restaurant will be quite a challenge as you will need to take a lift from the basement. Without the security guard to point me some direction, I don't think I will ever find the place~

Shop Front: The restaurant was nicely decorated with an oriental theme. If you are early, fret not, there is a guest room where you can sit down in the comfortable cushion and drowned yourself in the nice ambient. (You can take a look at the pictures I have uploaded.)

As our stomach are growling, we quickly placed our orders and the food was served in near record time. We did not get to wait long, perhaps 10-15 minutes and all our orders are served at once! Good service indeed, not to forget that the waiter who served us was pretty polite and nice. All the food on the buffet menu was pretty nice, which in my opinion was above average standard.

Some recommendations to must try (in my own opinion):

          蒸 / 炸曼头 Steamed / Deep-fried Bun
Freshly fried, sweet and crispy on the outside. Best to eat when hot!!!

麻婆豆腐 Sautéed Beancurd in Spicy Sauce
Beancurd that is so soft that it immediately melts in your mouth. Mixed it together with the sause to enjoy a heavenly taste!

          日式三文鱼刺身 Salmon Sashimi
Fresh, cold and tender. One of the best sashimi I have ever eaten.

招牌麦片虾 Deep-fried Prawns with Crispy Oats
Crispy Oats with sweet and tender prawns, a taste that you will not forget easily

          虾子虾仁煎蛋 Fried Egg with Shrimps
Fresh sweet and juicy prawns wrapped in egg. Heavenly taste!!

          Peking Duck
Crisp juicy skin, how much more can I ask?

However, I have one dish in the restaurant that I must advised everyone not to ever try:

海鲜粒炒饭 Fried Rice with Dried Seafood
Why? This is because I find that the rice was pretty hard, pretty dry and definitely doesn't taste nice at all. After eating one mouth, I decided to give it a skip and forfeit the whole dish altogether.

For dessert, I would recommend their mango pudding. It was rich in mango taste, soft and it was serve cold!! Simply sadup! =)
