Been to Gmax to try the ride out when i was getting super bored with what i could do in Singapore. Basically, its just a little too boring.
So it was this fine day when a few friends and myself stepped out to visit the place after having some food at Sushi Tei and some drinks and cheese fries at Brewerkz when the crazy idea hit us to try the Gmax experience which was simply nearby.
Me, being a timid freak in terms of rides, was forced to go on it so that i could commit to my oath of changing my life. Haha. Well, it wasn't that serious but it was a start.
Anyway, it wasn't cheap. The ride costs somewhere between $35-50 depending on what kind of package you wanted to take up. And thats on a per person basis. You get the choice to either do a ride with the video of yourself and a T shirt and other memorabilia depending on your preference. either way, i think its just fun.
The ride is short. Lasting only 5 mins but slightly more due to the safety precautions and such. Its quite a rush and its different for everybody. But for my and my friend, we screamed like girls, not to mention expletives galore. My take is that it was fun as hell.
Especially when you are plummeting to earth and feels like dying. Damn its fun!!
Try it now. There are new rides which look like a swing and stuff. Try it with friends and maybe after beer. Either way, try it to escape from the oh so mundane lives.
After heard some recommendation My BF & I with 2 other colleagues Adrain & Landon decide to have dinner at Miss U Cafe... The place is air-conditioned environment, cosy with wooden furniture & sofa seats. At the left hand side of the corner you will get to see all the wine on the shelf.
After looking at the menu, we decide to order 1 Miss U Sampler, 1 Cheese Pizza, 1 Salmon Hollandaise, 1 Rib Eye Steak with Red Wine sauce & another 1 Rib Eye Steak with Black Pepper sauce.
Miss U Sampler - $18.80
It a combine of Cod Nuggets, Calamaris, Popcorn Chickens, Garlic Bratwurst, Corn Cobbette, Vegetables crudites & Potato Wedges and it come with Cheese, Tartar & Salsa sauce. The platter is big enough for more than 4 people to share. Everything is fried except for the vegetables. Overall the platter still not bad.
Say Cheese Pizza - $15.90
The pizza is richly topped with Mozzarella, Edam, Emmental and Blue Cheese. It serve hot, it was nice and can get to taste the strong cheese. It a nice dish Adrain has made a good choice.
Salmon Hollandaise - $17.90
Gilled salmon filled topped Hollandaise sauce and dress with beetroots compote, served with daily vegetables & roasted herb potato. I have choose this dish as my main course as it stated must try. Quite disappointed as I don't really feel any special about this dish. I can't taste hollandaise sauce, the roasted herb potato is abit salty. The beetroots was special as I can taste that there is red wine. Not really a good choice.
Rib Eye Steak with Black pepper/Red wine Sauce -$19.90
Gilled rib eye steak accompanied with daily vegetables & roasted herb potato. Medium well done with black pepper sauce, medium rare with red wine sauce. Both steak were nicly done. Not a bad dish. Good choice by My BF & Landon.
After having our appetizer & main, they decide to order 3 dessets. We order 1 Apple of my Ice, 1 Sinful treats & 1 Banana Speed
Apple of my Ice - $8.50
A scoop of vanilla ice-cream on top of the apple crumble pie with some strawberry sauce. After having the first bite of this desset you wouldn't want to have another bite of it. This desset was poorly done. It was hot but it was too soggly can't even taste what inside the pie. It shouldn't come with the strawberry sauce. A bad choice we had made.
Banana Speed - $8.90
3 scoop of ice-cream; chocolate, strawberry & vanilia, banana and some cornflakes at the base. It stated NewZealand Ice-cream but after tasting it I don't think it nice. As we can taste there is some ice inside the ice-cream. If you can taste ice inside which mean they have keep the ice-cream for some time. It not really that nice. Another bad choice we had made.
Sinful Treat - $8.90
Cornflakes as the base, coffee with chocolate ice-cream, chocolate syrup, cream and marsmallow at the side. Finally a not bad desset we had.
For the service is not really that good. As we waited for about 20 - 30 mins before they serve us the appetizer follow by our main. We need to inform the waiter to refill our drinks. Based on this experience, i will not be going back to this place again.
I used to patronise this place when I was a kid and when they were still located at an old shophouse along Tampines Road. Even then, the prices were steep, coming in at $3 - $4 instead of the usual $1.50 for nasi lemak then. But back then, the food was good and queues of more than 20 people could be seen.
Tried them out again after they moved to their current location. The queue is still there, the prices are still higher then average but the food quality has dipped. Prices are like $6 now which is ridiculous. I rather walk 3 bus stops down Hougang Ave 1 for better and cheaper nasi lemak.
Dome or Olio Dome held many memories for me because when i was a kid, the most expensive meal i could afford was either Swenson's or Olio Dome with a friend. Being kindred souls, we also only liked a few things in those places. Basically, all we liked were the fries and potato wedges and that was all we frequented the place for. Now, he's a manager so he can obviously afford better but its because of a coupon i got from purchasing books that i decided to have my lunch at this nostalgic place.
Chocolate Cake ($5.90) - The first item i ordered was the chocolate cake because thats what the voucher said, order any cake and get a complimentary coffee. And honestly, the reason why i used the voucher was because i was pretty darn sure i'll never make a trip simply to Dome just to use it again and also factor in the fact that it was lunch time. On to the cake, this was a recommendation from the waitress who was quite friendly. The cake was average at best though. The top layer was really hard while the sponge and cream layer was quite lackluster. There's a certain bitterness to the cake that hints at either coffee or good cocoa beans but i'm going with the former. Not too bad since it was served before the main meal but i wouldn't recommend it as a must order when visiting the place.
Long Black (Complimentary) - The complimentary coffee is a long black (espresso plus water) which was decidedly bitter but not as fragrant as i would like. Almost definitely not premium beans used but a grade above general coffee in coffee shops.
Beef burger with Bacon, Cheese and Egg With Fries ($13.90) - And since it was lunch time, my order was completed with a beef burger yet again. This version is a no nonsense and totally huge beef patty that turned out to be surprisingly tough. Its like the beef is squashed to the point there was little or no moisture within. More or less, it means the patty wasn't freshly made but ordered. However, i honestly found it a whee bit above acceptable. It came with melted cheese and a sunny side up and some stringy fried bacon for good effect. The overall appearance was nice but the bread was just bad. It was also hard, maybe because it was toasted, but its hardly suitable for a burger of this size. Overall, i found this edible but probably will not repeat my order again.
Surprise surprise. A lazy afternoon alone at the bookstore left me poorer by $90 worth of Science Fiction novels and an additional $23.30 more for a supposedly 'cheap' lunch. I happened to be one of the few scoundrels who sipped a coffee for 1 hour just to read my books as well.
Its not a bad place per se. The feeling is decent for a book cum cafe combination and nobody chases you out of the place when you simply sit and read and drink coffee. They could do with better coffee and cakes however and the mains need to have freshly made patties. Once they get that down, we may get a little bit of France's reading atmosphere and culture in Singapore after all.
This is my friend's business and no, I'm not being biased here. All those people who tried the Rocky Road cake at Bobo's birthday can bear testament to that. The cake was very pretty with little heart shapes and marshmellows wedged in between. The chocolate didn't come across as too rich or sweet for that matter. The only thing which I felt could have been better was that it could have been more moist, but the dryness could be due to putting in the fridge for too long. Lilfoot has other cakes too which are quite decent, like his fever! and signature chocolate cheesecake.
I tried this courtesy of Team Singapore quite a few years back. The ride lasted probably about 5 mins with most of the anticipation/fear coming during the waiting to be launched off period. I can't remember the exact costs for 1 ride but it definitely isn't cheap. You can also buy a dvd of yourself in the air from the counter after the ride for a few bucks.
Just went for lunch at this latest TCC outlet. Its situated in the rather inaccessible Keppel Bay, which also boasts fine dining restaurant Prive. Located on the 2nd floor of the clubhouse, the view is excellent through the mostly glass facade. The food is very average though, almost to the point of being lousy and prices aren't cheap (2 of us ate about $40). But the ambience is great, especially at night where you can view the twinkling lights of the city as well as enjoy the serenity of the sea dotted with bobbing yachts. A poor man's answer to a romantic night out. ;)
I went to this place even before I joined the ping.sg event here. Unlike when I was in ping.sg event, I was dining in the lower floor. Couldn't remember anymore what I ordered, but I remember the tea was so nice! Well, it's a tea restaurant anyway.. My boyfriend (that time was a new boyfriend =P) ordered the rosebud tea. My other friends ordered many exotic tea. Haha. One of them ordered the wild berries tea. After that she added honey into that and she was really really amazed by the honey. After that, every sip she took, she would add the honey! It's that good.. Haha..
Can't remember what I had for ping.sg event either. I think it was cajun dory. Even though I don't remember the name I do remember that it was very very nice! And what I like the most... Is the dessert! The dessert that came to my place was apple crumble with some vanilla ice cream. Oh goodness it was so good! I think i was the one who ate the most =P sorry my friends at the table... =P
i want to visit this restaurant again! Will drag my boyfriend... =P
my review of kolo mee at killiney road:
http://www.yebber.com/review/jia-xiang-kuching-restaurant/
I don't really like this branch of kolo mee. You see, I'm a big fan of kolo mee for its tasty noodles! But this branch simply doesn't cut it. Location is not nice and noisy since it's on the roadside. Furthermore it's kinda dusty from the road, too. They serve the same menu and I ordered the same thing as usual (recommended kolo mee - with char siew, wanton, and prawn), but it didn't taste as nice! Gotta put a lot of chilli before I finally got to the familiar tasty taste. It's kinda more oily than the one in Killiney too.
If you really crave for kolo mee, I suggest you take the trip to Somerset and go to the Killiney branch instead. It will be more worth it.
i think this branch of kolo mee is the best! ^^ (it's actually the main branch) and i think it's cheaper than its branches.. I always order the recommended kolo mee.. The one with char siew, wanton, and prawn. Super nice! Shiok chilli too! Usually it's not too crowded.
The ordering system is kinda troublesome though. You have to walk to the counter to place the order. Haha. Sorry, I'm a spoiled girl. I like my order to be taken by a waiter who comes to my table! =P Oh the good thing is usually the person at the counter speaks English! Yeay! This is beri beri important to me you know, as a person who looks Chinese with nearly zero Chinese knowledge.
I don't like their beverages =( they sell those pre-packed beverages.. They have luohan longan, lime juice, and aloe vera if i'm not wrong.. But those are not delicious! Maybe it was because of citric acid.. It feels funny on your tongue.
However all in all, I really like this place! I used to come here with my group of friends, chatting crap endlessly. How I miss those times! Will urge them to come again!
