After hearing so much about this café, finally have a chance to step into this café to have a meal, this is like after 2 tries. I nearly gave up! Anyway which café do not open on a Sunday. Sigh….
Well we make a reservation since it can get quite packed at dinner time. I reached there around 10 mins before our reservation time and found to place to be pretty empty. The I stood like an idiot for a good 10 mins before someone saw me and came stomping to me in a black face (or her face is by default black which means no smile). Trust me, that is the last thing I wanna to see after a day of work, is to see a black face. So what happen to the motto of “where happy people meet”? Hmm.....
The first impression of the place is very dark. Seems like they switch off all the light and trying to use the tea candles lights instead. Romantic? Eerie? To me, both. Haa….. Another reason being the table that I was seated was directly below the air con, freaking cold! I was having goose bump throughout the whole dinner. Pls dun seat at Table 7. Have to say that the place is nicely decorated though.
Took some time to decide what to eat but then they got this set meal thing which is actually quite a good deal. Add $3 for a salad/soup drink ice cream. You can even upgrade starters, drinks and desserts as well. Great!
In the end we decided on the following:
Potato Munch Skins: It is potato skins topped with bacon bits baked with mozarella cheese, served with mayonnaise. Have to say this came as a disappointment as my partner had recommended this, expectation too high I think, but I have tasted better ones at other places. At $7 for 6 pcs, can consider cheap alr. If it has more bacon bits and the potato skin more crispy, it would be much better.
Soup: This soup of the day which I think is cream of mushroom. This is good. It came hot, cream and full of mushroom chunks. Good enough. It will be better if it could come with a bun or some bread. Hee….
Garlic Crusted Dory: It is dory covered with chef's special garlic herb butter & bread crumbs, baked till golden brown. Well the presentation was good and the portion was big. The side dish of mixed vegetables was good. The fish is covered with garlic bread cumbs. Brings a unqie taste to the fish. Refreshing. The fish is fresh as well, even after deep fried, it still remains soft and not dry. Cost @ $8.80.
Roasted Chicken Leg: It is whole roasted chicken leg with mouth-watering mushroom & potato fricassee. This dish came to me as a normal dish. Nothing to be wow of, less of the potato fricassee, which is smooth and creamy. Have to say the portion of the leg is big as well. Cost @ $9.80. I think the dish is not worth this price. I can get better tasting chicken leg at half the price.
Warm Bread & Butter Pudding: I loved bread and butter pudding. This one came to us hot and with vanilla cream, it was great. I loved the taste of it, milky and creamy. The bread is still firm as well, soaking in all the flavour.
All in all, the meal cost $32.60 for 2 person and there is no service charge as well.
Overall the dining experience was not too good due to freezing temperature. Have to eat our food fast if not risk it turning cold. Even though, we ordered drinks, it will be good that they could have served us ice water as well. Their service is disappointing as being a small café, I expect their service to be warm and friendly. All I got was very business like service only. I dun think I will go back on my own. Food is one thing but service is another and they go hand in hand. They are always other places with warmer services and better food.
Heard quite a bit about this cafe and finally got a chance to patronise one afternoon. Located along East Coast Road, The Cheesecake Cafe, as its name suggests, primarily sells cheesecakes in a stunning Victorian interior which boasts a miniature cascading waterfall, roman pillars and plush sofas.
Peanut Butter Cheesecake - I personally like this the best as it was light and fluffy with a rather heavy hint of peanut butter. The cake could have been a little more compact though, coming across as rather soft at times.
Peach Jelly Cheesecake - This one was a little weird as the layer of peach jelly was a little too rubbery for my liking. I probably just can't get used to eating cheesecake with a layer of jelly like substance in between. However I must say that it was a rather interesting slice of cake.
Rum & Raisin Cheesecake - The rum and raisin rendition didn't impress me much as the alcoholic taste was a tad too strong for my liking.
All in all, a very nice place to hang out and have some cheesecakes, especially if you get seats inside. Prices are a tad steep though but service is very decent.

Savouring seafood has become so affordable these days that diners do not need to confine themselve to only special occasions to have seafood. Among the numerous seafood restaurants, Manhattan Fish Market (MFM) and Fish & Co will immediately come to mind as they offer affordable and delicious seafood that caters to everybody need. MFM is always compare with Fish & Co, as they offer vastly similar menus; fish and seafood. Each has its own strength and weakness, read on to find out more..
MFM specialises in American-style seafood. Its product ranges from fish & chips to Garlic Butter mussels and Red hot whole fish. Manhattan fish & chips, flaming prawn patter, and Manhattan Seafood platter are among its signature dishes.
Fisherman's Giant fried patter ($36.90)
The patter consist fried shrimps, fish, calamari, mushroom with garlic rice and fries. The whole presentation of the food was done very nicely and looks tempting. There was 6 shrimps, with lots of fish, calamari, fries and a generous serving of the garlic rice. The shrimp was very delicious, calamari not too bad, fries well done, and i particularly like the garlic rice (although eating it made me very full). But the fish was a bit of a letdown. By the three of us, we could not finish the patter and left quite a fair bit of fish, fries and rice. For the price, i though it was quite reasonable with such a big serving.
Manhattan Fish & Chips ($9.90)
Manhattan's all time favourite, its fish & chips. We made the fatal mistake of ordering this; not that its not good, but we can’t even finish the patter and yet we ordered this dish. Wasting food is so sinful!! We though that the patter might not be enough for the three of us, so we order the fish to share. The rest you know is history, anyway we did manage to finish this fish, the taste was rather similar to the one i had in Fish & Co. In fact, if you have not tell me which is which, i almost can't tell them apart, mayb except of the size; the one at Fish & Co is too much bigger.
The waiter used a device to flame the sauce that was spread on top of the prawn for the seafood patter. I was rather tempted to order this dish just to see the waiter flame the prawns, but gui tried this dish before and commented that the prawn was burned and not very nice.
To conclude, i will say Manhattan Fish Market is on par with Fish & Co in my opinion. Price wise they are not too far apart, menu wise they offer quite similar items, taste wise i also though they are quite close. MFM had the spectacle flame show, but there is also the consequences that come with it, a strong gas smell around the restaurant. Total bill for three comes up to $66.60. Both MFM and Fish & Co are great place to dine, but after eating there i am thirsty!! They do not include any greens to go along with the main course, yes they do offer salads separately, but can’t they just include some greens in it? You know Singaporeans are getting more and more health conscious, cannot everything fried food : )

Dinner at Fish & Co The Glass House, as i had called in advance to place a seat in the waiting list (they don’t accept reservations on Weekends), when we reach we managed to go in straight away. The menu had quite a variety of fish and seafood for their main course (no other meat, after all they are called fish & co, not meat & co)
Fried Calamari ($8.90)
The all-time favourite there, juicy tender squid rings grilled or fried to your preference! The servings were huge, two of us almost cannot finish it, best to order it when you have a larger party.
New York Fish & Chips ($14.90)
Before i start eating i was starving, but after eating halfway i was already full! From the picture you can’t really tell how big the fish is. Perhaps because the fish is stuffed with cheese, i felt the thirst just halfway through. Maybe it will be better for two normal-eaters to share one fish & chips and order another starter to share. Big-eaters, go ahead!! 4 out of 5
Grilled Salmon with rice ($16.90)
Salmon was quite good, together with garlic rice and some vege to go along with. I don’t really fancy salmon so much, but mayb sometimes it’s good to have some changes? Ha 3.5 out of 5
Overall, the experience at Fish & Co was rather a good one, the staff were friendly, the food was pretty good just that i find it too thirsty, and the staff were a bit slow in refilling my water (mayb too many customers or i finish the iced water too fast). The price won’t burned a hole in your pocket, our total bill for 2 person was $47.90. There are also a lot more variety of seafood and fish to choose from. Positive!! I will go back again, but mayb meanwhile my next stop will be Manhattan Fish Market, a restaurant with a similar concept to Fish & Co.

Decided to have a quick lunch at Uno after reading fatpig review on it. Didn’t know that the Jumbo coffee shop at Dover has Uno as its new tenant since the last time i went to the coffee shop it wasn’t there. Anyway for the introduction, Uno Beef House is something like Botak Jones, “restaurant-style” western food sell in coffee shop environment.
Actually from the name Beef House we can tell that Uno is famous for its steak, but then feeling rather full i wasn’t quite ready to eat steak for lunch, so i had fish & chips ($5).
The fish wasn’t too exceptional, quite normal like those normal coffee shop western food. The coleslaw was nice though. Prehaps u really have to try steak at Uno, they aren’t call Beef house for no reason. 3.5 out of 5
Mister Ang had chicken chop ($5). I felt the chicken chop was okay, nothing too special but still slightly above average. 3.5 out of 5
Overall, the food was quite okay, mayb we didn’t try its signature steak. But considering the rather cheap price at $5 for most of the items, it is still acceptable. Most importantly it doesn’t has a long Q like Botak, and Dover is near my home : )

I decided to try the donuts since they looked interesting and colourful. One does get bored with donuts sprinkled with sugar after a while. I chose 6 flavours, Almond Lover, Strawberry Candy, Pistachio Crunch, White Chocolate, Chocolate Rainbow and Maple Iced Glazed.
I didn't get to try Chocolate Rainbow as I had to give it to a kid. However, I think the chocolate is the same as Almond Lover. I must say, I'm not a donut lover but the range at Missy Donut is simply fantastic.
In addition, buying in bulks do help to save the money when you are buying for a group of people. Just one thing, I won't follow the instructions to heat up the donut in the microwave. My donut shrank in size. Or was it the high heat?
This little hidden stall was introduced by one of my colleague after we were all full from lunch. Then me being a person must try everything, decided to tao pao some of it and go back office and eat. Hee…
So what do they sell, they are selling all fried stuff from all the usual stuff from pisang (bananas), to green beans, sweet potato and to even chicken (recently new addition).
Below are some of my favs:
Their famous sweet and sour goreng pisang. I wonder if it is the bananas or it is their batter that make the end product taste both sweet and sour. Haa… I am sure the sweet part come from banana but the sour part, I am not that sure. However the end product was good especially it came of crispy and hot! Yet the banana inside is soft, juicy and melts in the mouth type. The batter is not too thick as well and fried to crispy golden brown. Of cos size matters and they got 2 sizes to choose from.
Green bean / Red bean. I loved to eat this cos I loved green bean a lot. It is mashed up, smooth and fried to golden brown. Since it is made from fresh beans, it is not too sweet as well. Red bean, I think only this place serves this. I have to say that it is my new fav. The red beans are mashed whole so the skin is actually still intact. Loved the texture when I eat it.
One thing to take note, it is better to eat when bought, if you leave it aside, it is better to put it in the toastor for a while to heat it before it.
I think each of their items cost $0.70, however if you choose 3 red tagged items, they will cost $2. Cheap when their portion are considered quite big. Therefore everytime I walked past them, I will always stop to buy from them.
Was walking along North Canal Road when I spotted this Authentic Hock Lam Street Popular Beef Kway Teow stall. Had, on previous occasions, tried out the other 2 Hock Lam beef kway teow stalls at Far East Square and Purvis Street respectively, so jumped in to try this one.
$5 got me a medium serving of kway teow ($4 for small and $6 for large) with about 5 beef balls. The beef balls tasted like they came right off the shelves of some supermarket. My guess is that they really did. The beef slices were nicely done though I found them to be a little too thick, which rendered them a tad too chewy at some point. Overall quite decent and more value for money than the one I had at Far East Square and comparable to the outlet at Purvis street.
Had dinner at Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao at Jurong Point with my gf as we were too lazy to go anywhere far for dinner.
There are actually many Crystal Jade variations around with La Mian Xiao Long Bao being one of them. The Jurong Point outlet was packed to the brim when we dropped by, just like all of the food outlets in the mall (whats new?). We had the set menu for 2, which included a side dish, a rice/noodle, a dim sum item and a cooked dish, all of which must be selected from a preset menu.
Crispy Beancurd Skin Roll - This dish was actually quite decent, with the beancurd skin crispy and not too oily. The filling of flour was a little chewy, tasting and looking very much like small cubes of mushroom. But beware, consuming too much of it will make you sick really fast because of the starch. This dish is best consumed with the accompanying zesty soya sauce.
Fried Rice with Prawn, Chicken & Ham - I would say that the fried rice was surprisingly quite good. Homogeneously fried with a generous serving of prawns, chicken and ham. The only thing that was lacking was the "Wok Hei" taste which was a pity really.
Sauteed Egg White with Fish Meat & Conpoy - As mentioned in a few of my earlier reviews, Prima serves a kick ass rendition of this dish and unfortunately, Crystal Jade's offering is nowhere in sight. Sure, its eggy from all that egg white and a little raw from the fish meat, but it just didn't manage to gel the flavours together like the one from Prima. However, this is still one very palatable dish and I will not hesitate to order it if I do go to Crystal Jade again.
Shanghai Steamed Pork Dumpling - A forte of Crystal Jade, the Shanghai Steamed Pork Dumplings or Xiao Long Baos (XLBs) were just a wee bit short of fantastic, owing to the minimally thicker than usual skin. Everything else was the same though, nice lean meat with lots of juice encapsuled within the skin and gushing out as the skin was breached.
Souffle Egg White Ball -
The only other place that I know that sells such a dessert is Cheng Li Yuan, which also happens to do up a meaner version of it. Crystal Jade's rendition utilises a lot of icing sugar to make it sweet and the pastry is comparatively not as tasty or fluffy. But then again, Crystal Jade is closer to home.
A hearty meal for 2 stood at about $37, which isn't really too expensive. I must say that of all the Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao outlets I've tried in Singapore (I believe I've tried all of them), Jurong Point's outlet is comparatively better than the rest in terms of food quality. You can read my writeup on the Takashimaya outlet here. However, service is another matter altogether. Though not rude or unfriendly , service was slow and spotty and I could spot quite a few aggrieved customers.
Pro: Totally awesome clothes available on sale. Lingerie, dresses and tops that makes you feel sexy. Fast customer service, accommodating as long as you explain yourself and clear guidelines and instructions given in emails and web. Received the item like 2 days after payment which is fast enough. Clear size measurements and items are nearly exact of measurements. That's great since it makes shopping online more fun and clothes fit.
Con: Clothes without promotion is quite expensive. Can go up to $70 for a slip dress which although is very nice but a burn in the pocket. On the whole, its a great buy when they are having sale.

Overall, the food was quite okay, mayb we didn’t try its signature steak. But considering the rather cheap price at $5 for most of the items, it is still acceptable. Most importantly it doesn’t has a long Q like Botak, and Dover is near my home : )

I decided to try the donuts since they looked interesting and colourful. One does get bored with donuts sprinkled with sugar after a while. I chose 6 flavours, Almond Lover, Strawberry Candy, Pistachio Crunch, White Chocolate, Chocolate Rainbow and Maple Iced Glazed.
I didn't get to try Chocolate Rainbow as I had to give it to a kid. However, I think the chocolate is the same as Almond Lover. I must say, I'm not a donut lover but the range at Missy Donut is simply fantastic.
In addition, buying in bulks do help to save the money when you are buying for a group of people. Just one thing, I won't follow the instructions to heat up the donut in the microwave. My donut shrank in size. Or was it the high heat?

This little hidden stall was introduced by one of my colleague after we were all full from lunch. Then me being a person must try everything, decided to tao pao some of it and go back office and eat. Hee…
So what do they sell, they are selling all fried stuff from all the usual stuff from pisang (bananas), to green beans, sweet potato and to even chicken (recently new addition).
Below are some of my favs:
Their famous sweet and sour goreng pisang. I wonder if it is the bananas or it is their batter that make the end product taste both sweet and sour. Haa… I am sure the sweet part come from banana but the sour part, I am not that sure. However the end product was good especially it came of crispy and hot! Yet the banana inside is soft, juicy and melts in the mouth type. The batter is not too thick as well and fried to crispy golden brown. Of cos size matters and they got 2 sizes to choose from.
Green bean / Red bean. I loved to eat this cos I loved green bean a lot. It is mashed up, smooth and fried to golden brown. Since it is made from fresh beans, it is not too sweet as well. Red bean, I think only this place serves this. I have to say that it is my new fav. The red beans are mashed whole so the skin is actually still intact. Loved the texture when I eat it.
One thing to take note, it is better to eat when bought, if you leave it aside, it is better to put it in the toastor for a while to heat it before it.
I think each of their items cost $0.70, however if you choose 3 red tagged items, they will cost $2. Cheap when their portion are considered quite big. Therefore everytime I walked past them, I will always stop to buy from them.

Was walking along North Canal Road when I spotted this Authentic Hock Lam Street Popular Beef Kway Teow stall. Had, on previous occasions, tried out the other 2 Hock Lam beef kway teow stalls at Far East Square and Purvis Street respectively, so jumped in to try this one.
$5 got me a medium serving of kway teow ($4 for small and $6 for large) with about 5 beef balls. The beef balls tasted like they came right off the shelves of some supermarket. My guess is that they really did. The beef slices were nicely done though I found them to be a little too thick, which rendered them a tad too chewy at some point. Overall quite decent and more value for money than the one I had at Far East Square and comparable to the outlet at Purvis street.

Had dinner at Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao at Jurong Point with my gf as we were too lazy to go anywhere far for dinner.
There are actually many Crystal Jade variations around with La Mian Xiao Long Bao being one of them. The Jurong Point outlet was packed to the brim when we dropped by, just like all of the food outlets in the mall (whats new?). We had the set menu for 2, which included a side dish, a rice/noodle, a dim sum item and a cooked dish, all of which must be selected from a preset menu.
Crispy Beancurd Skin Roll - This dish was actually quite decent, with the beancurd skin crispy and not too oily. The filling of flour was a little chewy, tasting and looking very much like small cubes of mushroom. But beware, consuming too much of it will make you sick really fast because of the starch. This dish is best consumed with the accompanying zesty soya sauce.
Fried Rice with Prawn, Chicken & Ham - I would say that the fried rice was surprisingly quite good. Homogeneously fried with a generous serving of prawns, chicken and ham. The only thing that was lacking was the "Wok Hei" taste which was a pity really.
Sauteed Egg White with Fish Meat & Conpoy - As mentioned in a few of my earlier reviews, Prima serves a kick ass rendition of this dish and unfortunately, Crystal Jade's offering is nowhere in sight. Sure, its eggy from all that egg white and a little raw from the fish meat, but it just didn't manage to gel the flavours together like the one from Prima. However, this is still one very palatable dish and I will not hesitate to order it if I do go to Crystal Jade again.
Shanghai Steamed Pork Dumpling - A forte of Crystal Jade, the Shanghai Steamed Pork Dumplings or Xiao Long Baos (XLBs) were just a wee bit short of fantastic, owing to the minimally thicker than usual skin. Everything else was the same though, nice lean meat with lots of juice encapsuled within the skin and gushing out as the skin was breached.
Souffle Egg White Ball -
The only other place that I know that sells such a dessert is Cheng Li Yuan, which also happens to do up a meaner version of it. Crystal Jade's rendition utilises a lot of icing sugar to make it sweet and the pastry is comparatively not as tasty or fluffy. But then again, Crystal Jade is closer to home.
A hearty meal for 2 stood at about $37, which isn't really too expensive. I must say that of all the Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao outlets I've tried in Singapore (I believe I've tried all of them), Jurong Point's outlet is comparatively better than the rest in terms of food quality. Though not rude or unfriendly , service was slow and spotty and I could spot quite a few aggrieved customers.

Totally awesome clothes available on sale. Lingerie, dresses and tops that makes you feel sexy. Fast customer service, accommodating as long as you explain yourself and clear guidelines and instructions given in emails and web. Received the item like 2 days after payment which is fast enough. Clear size measurements and items are nearly exact of measurements. That's great since it makes shopping online more fun and clothes fit.
Con:
Clothes without promotion is quite expensive. Can go up to $70 for a slip dress which although is very nice but a burn in the pocket. On the whole, its a great buy when they are having sale.
