I have this sudden craving for tapioca, a very strong craving thats it. So, when i saw this Bali Thai with a takeaway counter, i jumped up with joy literally. For i know, they will definitly carry their popular dessert -- steamed tapioca.
True enough, beside boxes of steamed tapioca, they also carry varieties of kuehs (mostly with coconut as part of the ingredients) as well as their another popular item -- mango sticky rice.
Priced at 2 dollars for a box of tapioca, you can get rather decent pieces of steamed tapioca. I liked the texture of their tapioca, its neither too hard nor too soft. It also has a chewy texture that will allows me to do some mouth exercise. :P
However, i find that the coconut dressing seems abit too diluted. You will not find those creamy coconut dressing there, instead its those watery coconut 'water' which hardly has coconut taste in it. Well, perhaps im so used to coconut cream in thai dessert so when i saw this coconut 'water', i find that it just could not tasted as good.
Overall, i find that their tapioca tasted rather average. If they can improve their coconut 'water', this dessert would definitely tasted much more better. Ohh, another improvement that they can make, may be the temperature of the tapioca.
By combining hot steaming pieces of tapioca with the cold coconut dressing, this steamed tapioca dessert will be the most wonderful thai dessert. Super Yummy!
Using yellow and black as the primary colours for this cafe proves to leave a strong impression on me. When i am at IMM this time round, i decided that i just have to try them out.
Waiting at the entrance of the cafe was a breeze, i did not wait for long before i was being introduce to a table. Due to the design of the cafe, some of the seats were placed just beside the walkway. This design, i feel that it seems a little dangerous for ladies to have their bags placed on the seats.
A word of caution to ladies is to have your bags placed on your laps instead.
Out of curiousity (wonder how hongkong curry will taste like?), i ordered their chicken curry with bread (you get the choice of either rice of bread). To my dismay, the curry does not taste good. First, the curry sauce is a bit too watery and definitely not spicy enough. Next, the potatoes are basically tasteless and rather hard to bite. A pretty decent amount of chicken can be found, but i find that the meat tastes abit of raw to me.
The bread were sliced quite evenly, but i feel that it will fare better if they have toast the bread in the first place.
Feeling rather disappointed with their curry, i ordered another main dish - black pepper chicken chop. This dish was orignially paired up with a salad but in the end it was replaced by an egg (a cold one somemore!) without the customer knowledge. Well, somehow i feel that it will be good to inform the customer earlier if they have run out of salad instead of just changing it without saying a word.
I pretty like the taste of the black pepper sauce (smell nice too) and it seems like a great combination when combined with the chicken meat.
Overall, i find that their food tasted rather disappointing. Perhaps, it will be good if i have sticked to their speciality dishes instead. :P
I've always liked Hans. I've visited quite a few outlets and I like most of them. The food's pretty good, there's Chinese and there's western style. I especially the one at Bukit Merah Central, however this one at Harbour Front, I don't think I'll visit again.
Located at one corner of Harbour Front Centre, it's hardly noticeable.
There weren't many people around so I thought it would be a good place to rest my legs and have a nice quiet lunch.
To my horror, the place's empty, but the tables are not. Most of the tables are not cleared/cleaned properly and you can see files hovering round tables that has "food droppings".
If the place's busy or at some neighbourhood coffee-shop I would have understood. But it's located in a shopping mall and the workers were talking among themselves. Maybe they were super busy before I went in, so let's take it that it's not their fault.
But that's not the worst part, the worst part is when I opened the menu, there is nothing on the menu that is available.
Don't understand me? Check out the photos I've taken.
When I first heard of, or rather saw Miss Clarity Cafe, it was on TV and I thought to myself wow.. a pink eating place!
I told myself, one day I'll visit there. But as usual, that one day didn't happen, until the nice people at ping.sg decide to have a mini-gathering there. :)
Purvis Street was new and pretty hard to find, the taxi uncle didn't know where it was, so I told him to drop me off at Bugis junction. It's actually pretty near the National Library, and being PINK and all, it really stood out.
The meet up was in the afternoon, and since the members of ping.sg had already booked some tables, I didn't have to wait like what other reviewers said.
The deco is unique but too much bright colours makes me feel a little nausea. So maybe they should tone down a tiny bit.
The menu looks super packed and colourful. Even thought I was hungry, I just sat there, looking at the menu over and over, not knowing what should I order. Wanted to have lunch but when I saw the dry fried chicken on Daphne's plate. I don't think I wanna try it. I don't really fancy dry chicken. End up having a glass of lime juice instead ($1.00).
I like how they have this simple drawing on the wall directing people to the toilet. :) However, the inside of the toilet wasn't really well decorated and they only have 1 cubical.
It's written on their name card that there is free wireless broadband, so it's a plus point if I have a laptop and need Internet.
Unless there are friends who want to gather/have lunch there, if not I don't think I'll visit there on my own.
Just for the mango pudding, my friend wanted to have our dinner here. Haha...funny, right? I'll kept the review of the mango pudding to the last part.
I shall start off with the steamboat. Just the 2 of us & so we picked the sichuan spicy soup and the herbal chicken soup. Interesting, the steamboat was served in individual small pots instead of the big steamboat pot one usually sees. The have both cooked and raw food. The cooked food includes local delights such as popiah and rojak as well as others like teppanyaki, roasted chicken, pork rib, sausages. As for the raw food, the spread was surprisingly little. Not alot of variety, it's mainly meat like fish (dory & seabass), pork slice, chicken & beef slice. Seafood wise there's only prawns & crabs. Vegetables not alot too. Others are the typical meatballs you'll find at other steamboat places.
Although the food variety was disappointing, I have to say that the soups were good, especially the herbal chicken soup. Very often, I could smell the soup as I walk pass Suntec Convention Centre. Haha...
The mango pudding was highly recommended by my friend and it turned out to be really good. Its texture, sweetness. Just perfect! They have small fruit tarts, fruits & even DIY ice kacang in the dessert section. I think I'm more into their dessert huh? Haha...
For the price of $25.80/pax, I think it would be more reasonable for them to serve better drinks than just ice water. But i suppose their location & good service (they were really quite at clearing our used plates!) are the reason why they are charging so much.
We were looking for a chinese restaurant in Plaza Singapura. Without many choices, we landed in this restaurant to settle our dinner.
After sitting down, we were served some flower tea and pickles. Later did we realised that the compulsory tea costed $3 while the small dish of pickles costed $2!
For their menu, they have set menus as well as ala carte menu. They even serve hi-tea buffet on weekends & PHs.
Anyway, we ordered 5 dishes which include 'Braised Ox Tendon with Bamboo Shoot and Chilli in Small Wok', 'quick-fried seasonal greens', 'Braised Seasonal Greens
with Fresh Mushrooms', 'drunken chicken' and 'Braised Chicken Balls with Chilli and Parsley'. Most of the dishes tasted pretty normal, not much of a 'wow'. The meal was not satisfying for most of us.
However, their service was good. Their waiters would constantly refill your tea for you & clear off the used plates & replace with new ones.
The bill came up to around $100 for 5 persons, where only 4 dishes were calculated into the bill. All thanks to the credit card promotion. Although the service is good, I think I'll go to other places for better chinese food.
Eating while dangling on the air - such novelty. haha. Pleasant experience at the start. We were looking forward to dining on the cable car and watching the sunset at Harbour front so we made a reservation for 6:30pm.
Booking was made online and we pre ordered one grilled beef and one pan fried salmom when we made the booking.
Arriving at Mt Faber, we left the valet do the job (at $5) and off we went to the entrace of the cable car tower. There were quite a few people queuing up for sky dining and we were like the 6th couple in line...all bookings must be made before hand. No walk-ins allowed, at least that is what we were told.
We noticed that the sky dining cable cars had a table placed in between the 2 seats. So when it came our turn, we hopped onto one of them as it moved slowly. Then the waiter came by and served us the soup and appetizer for the 1st round. He had to do it quickly as the cable car was moving. So do not expect him to be gentle. Then again he will not "throw" the soup at you. haha.
The first round was an experience indeed. Eating 100m up in the air and watching the sun set what more could we ask for. We had the cream of mushroom soup and it was thick and well blended. It's kinda hard to eat and concentrate on the scenery and at the same time try to balance ourselves as the cable car can be quite shaky at times. There is also this nagging feeling that the glass filled with ice water will topple any time or the bowl of soup would slide off the table. Also since I have a thing with heights, drinking the soup and the salad was quite a challenge. But all said, we finished our soup and waited expectantly for the second course. The cable car went all the way to sentosa, made a u-turn and headed back to Mt Faber.
At Mt faber, the waiter quickly cleared our bowl of soup and served us the second course. ha....I forgot, he served us ice water and house wine and he had to make it fast, otherwise the cable car will move off without it or he might spill it all over the table. It is amazing to see how they manage to juggle all that within 1min I think and off we went with our second (main) course. There were at least 3 persone (I think) serving each cable car. One to clear the dishes, one to pour wine and the other to serve the main course. It happened so fast that we just did not know what happened. So service wise they were efficient and attentive. Before it moved off, the waiter asked if he could get us anything else. We spared him the trouble as we were wondering how he can manage to get us anything else if the cable car was moving off. So we said no thank you.
All I remember about the Beef tenderloin was that it done just right because halfway through the second round on the u-turn back to Mt Faber we started to feel the effects of motion sickness. haha. Never expected that. We joked that we had one more round to go...round 3...kinda like in the boxing ring waiting for the knockout punch. Actually also forgot much of the grilled salmon, execpt that there was some fishly after taste....so much for the meal. :(
The last dish was highly anticipated as it was the dessert. But when it arrived, we did not have the appetite to consume it as the cradling effects of the cable car got into us. Nevertheless we manage (yes...manage...seems like quite hard eh) to finish it.
Yes and not to mention, they served house wine also. Which we could not finish. Again we joked that if we finished the whole glass (coupled with the cradling effect of the cable car), we might just puke out of the cable car into the road or onto the people walking on the ground...funny sight indeed viewed from afar. But nothing like this happened....fortunately.
Overall the experience was good..minus the to and frow movement of the cable car. Food was average. Service was beyond expectation and ambience was good initially. But after going 3 rounds, that means 6 times seeing the same scenery, you kinda get tired of it after a while and just wished the cable car stopped and you can take your meal on more stable ground.
The experience cost us $90 per person. Recommended for a new experience...but not a culinary one.
Ah, what do I say. With the interior and name and uber-many-branches-around-in-such-a-short-period-of-time, it just made me feel like I just had to try this place. (Despite my friend warning me against going to the one at Siglap because of the quality of food.) With eating out being general more expensive now, I'd go to this place because I was expecting it to be slightly cheaper. Hey, it is a cafe after all right.
So I got myself a plate of noodles. I can't quite remember what it was called, but I guess they're all so similar, differentiating it is not that necessary. The noodles are like instant noodles! Along with two stalks of vegetables, a sunny side up egg and (seemingly canned) diced pork. Looks really ordinary, like you can do it yourself at home too. That was about $6 I think.
My friend ordered porridge. Again, I can't remember what it was called. I tried one mouth and I told myself if and when I were to come back again, I will never order this. It was just rice and water and it tasted like Fish Slice soup with rice in it. Yes, the kind you can get from hawker centres. It was $9.90 if I'm not wrong.
The food wasn't horrible nor inedible, but it was so ordinary that you'd feel the pinch just having to pay for the stuff there.
What was more appalling was that when the waitress served us our drink, she seemed so uncertain that she had to ask us if that was tea. I can't believe she did that. You can be new there, you can be unsure of what you're doing, but you really should not bring a cup of drink to your customer and hesitate to give it to them right before them.
On the whole, I really think it’s not that worth eating here. No doubt it’s like “fast-food” and it’s a relatively cheaper place to eat at, it still isn’t worth paying this kind of money for such service and food quality.
It's not one of my favourite places to watch any movie but there were times I was only given that option. The seats are average and not really suited for long movies such as Lord of The Rings or Titanic.
A real pity about the legroom but one can't complain too much if this cinema has been there for quite some time and no overhaul or makeover was done.
The stairs are more suited for people who have no trouble climbing but it's not really wheelchair friendly. In addition, if someone on crutches has to climb those stairs, it's time consuming as they can only climb one step at a time. I saw this lady on crutches attempting to climb up the the middle row. She was climbing one step at a time.
As for the sound system, I'd say it'll suffice for movies that don't require much surround sound system.
Doggie Wardrobe appeared in the Chinese Newspaper - My Paper (Wo Bao) during National Day, as they had a in house designed, patriotic Bandana, esp for the occassion. You can hardly find "Singaporean"Dog design in Singapore, i guess this will be the first!
The clothings ranges from $10 (Clearance items) to $29.90. Not those kind of typical singlets and tees, but more of elaborate designed kinds! There is the kinky nurse wear, which is actually sweet, and not kinky la! Army wear, Japanese wear and of cos, the most hyped Wedding designs. Talk abt man's best friend, You can walk down the aisle with your pet in your arm as your bridesmaid/groom mates, dressed in a wedding gown or tuxedo!
Usually they uses internet banking and mailing for purchases. Sometimes you can find them at bazaars, like the previous ones in Suntec and The Cathay. Do check out the website for more information!
