|| BreadTalk & Toast Box @Vivocity||
In Singapore, theres quite a few Toast box outlets. The one that i would like to review is located at Vivocity. Vivocity is located just beside of the harbourfront MRT station.
This Toast box outlet is located in a very prominent location --just right at the exit of harbourfront MRT station. ha. Rather difficult to miss this shop.
This shop is created with the look of 50s-60s coffee shop style. Perhaps of its appearance, i have a homely kind of feeling whenever i stepped into the shop.
The atmosphere creates a nice place for you to have your chit chat. However, at times it may be too noisy to have serious talk.
This toast box is unlike the normal bakeries shop. This toast box has something that the rest of the bakeries do not have -- varities.
They have all sorts of breads, from toasted white bread to soft buns to thicktoast. If this is still not able to satisfy your taste buld, you can choose from a even wider variety of bread from its bakery shop next door (*they have innovative names tagged to the breads too).
Beside the different kinds of breads, their have a wide range of fillings to apply on top / between the breads. These fillings range from kaya to peanut butter to pork floss and even otah. Unbeliveable right?
Personally, i loved the peanut butter thicktoast. Why you may ask? This is because the peanut butter is simply heavenly. ha.
The good thing for ladies is that they will cut up the thicktoast into 9 small square pieces, so that you can eat every single mouth of toast bread more gracefully.
You will definitely be able to find the type of bread that you like from its wide variety of breads.
Fear not, if you do not feel like eating bread today.
They have many other alternatives like nasi lemak or even mee siam. All these are also hot item for the customers there.
|| QQ Rice @Square 2||
The one and only QQ Rice outlet originate from taiwan is now in Singapore. It is situated at Square 2 shopping centre which is conveniently located just on top of Novena Square MRT station.
As QQ Rice outlet is not situated anywhere near the MRT station exit, a long time is used up to locate its store.
It is tugged just outside the mall corridor. Can you imagine? If i never step out of the building, i may never find this shop.
After so much walking, thought i can finally get to eat the much awaited rice balls. Never expected thers is still a super long queue is waiting for me. ha.
A word of advice: Please do not visit the store during lunch time if you are not ready to wait.
Ok, from their signboard, you can roughly guess the type of food this shop is selling.
Ya, you are right!
They are selling RICE!!!
Mind you, is not those ordinary white rice that you often take for dinner. Their rice are really special. Special in the sense that every types of rice that they offer here actually has excellent health benefit in them.
Bascially, there are 5 different types of rice to choose from -- purple rice, brown rice, red rice, Ice Lake gourmet rice and mixed grain rice.
Well, you must be wondering what is so nice to eat these rice?? The interesting part is you get to add in 5 different ingredients into your rice.
Theres a range of more than 50 different kind of ingredients to choose from. Some examples will be ham, chicken, cabbage, corn, chicken floss, seaweed, etc.
After choosing your rice and 5 ingredients, they will proceed to wrap it up into a ball shape and packed it in a plastic bag. An innovative and fun way to eat rice. By shaping the rice to a ball shape will make the little bits of rice remain in tact till the very last mouth.
Whats more? Their proportion of rice and filling is just nice so you will get to taste the different types of fillings every single mouth.
The best part of this rice balls is that is rather affordable. Priced from a range of $3.2 to $3.9, depending on the type of rice that you have choosen.
Overall, this is a definitely must try place.
If you are rushing for time, these rice balls is a great pack and go food.
What's more, its portion its big enough to fill you up and most importantly it has lots of healthy benefits.
||Ya Kun Kaya Toast @Cathay Building||
Ya Kun Kaya Toast has quite a few franchises across the entire little red dot -- Singapore.
Although they have the same menu, the same ingredients, the food served to us will still taste bit different.
This is probably due to the individual chef skills.
This particular outlet is located on the basement floor of the cathay building.
Seats are always fully occupied thus locating a seat has always been a hazzle.
Recently, they have set up many more tables and chair outside of their shop. This is defintely a good move to accomodate more customers. Thumbs up!!!
OK, what is the most popular food to eat in Ya Kun?
One look at their signboard and you will know. Its defintely their famous KAYA TOAST.
What makes their kaya toast so famous?
Well, that definitely boils down to their homemade kaya.
This kaya is not only fragrant, it will leave a after taste that makes you crave for even more.
The best thing for this kaya is the 'not so sweet' taste. Good!
To curb your craving for more kaya, you can also purchase their kaya in bottle form. With that, you can use it on your everyday toast.
Next food to try will be their hard boiled eggs. The size of their eggs are really bigger than normal eggs. Almost thought that they are duck eggs. :P
Mixed with some added soy sauce and pepper, the eggs taste wonderfully delicious.
Overall, seating space over there is abit squeesy but guess that can be overcome by its good food.
Their staffs are friendly too.
Try it!!!
Each time I past by this area, I will tell myself to visit this restaurant because of the unique decoration at the main door. It really look good from outside.
I went with my friend on one saturday evening. The ambience was nice and everything was fine except that it took quite a long while before I was attended to.
I heard about this restaurant and was told the food was nice
and therefore I was prepared to wait especially on the weekend.
Either my expectation was too high or I did not order the right type of Peranakan food, I find the food here not better than any other normal restaurant. Maybe I should come with a Peranakan next time.
My mom loves international buffet because she can get a taste of every country's cuisine! So yesterday we went to Safra Tampines to have our lunch at Sakura.
It's been almost a year since I last came to Sakura and in my heart I really hoped they would have new dishes or better quality dishes at the buffet table.
Ok, first complain - We had to pay before we get in the restaurant to start our buffet and the cashier was so inefficient! My mom took at least 15 minutes to settle the bill.
The food spread looked the same as the last time I went there but however it does not fail to make me drool. A wide spread I must say but quality wise, it's only average considering the price we pay.
I started my first round with Japanese food, normal sushi and salmon sashimi MY FAVOURITE! It was fresh and thick and taste really good with wasabi, no complains!
Up next, I went to order some teppanyaki and satay.. the dory fish was really nice! It's grilled on the spot after you place your order and they pour this special barbeque sauce on it, I like!
There's also unagi, beef steak and lamb chops over at the teppanyaki section. However, there was only about 5 clips on the table so the amount you can order is quite restricted!
The pizza section was tucked away in a hidden corner, I was so happy when I saw it! However, it was such a huge disappointment. The pizza base tasted so flour-ish and the toppings were lousy! Worst pizza I've ever had in my life. I only ate one mouth of it.
The fried stuff section was good, there were tempura, takoyaki, chicken wings, sotong balls etc. Great for fried food junkies like my sis, she had a whole plate of it! Haha!
There was also a huge spread of chinese cooked food, a few choices of dim sum including siew mai and har gow. The salad bar also had appetisers like baby octopus and kimchi!
They even had baked scallops with cheese, I love it!
Desserts were really meagle in variety compared to the main dishes. The cakes were cut so small I had to take a few pieces at a time. =X And the cakes didn't taste quite good.
Drinks were free flow and had everything ranging from hot coffee and milo to cold beverages like coke and green tea.
Overall, it's a nice meal but if you're a person who goes for quality, this is not your place! People on a budget, this is for you! :) Safra card members get 10% off.
After reading the review on http://ieatishootipost.blogspot.com , I finally made a trip down to e.Blackboard last night for a taste of their famous Cajun Chicken!
I ordered the Cajun Chicken, my sis had the Fish & Chips and my aunt ordered the Unagi Aglio Olio, their new fusion dish.
First that came was the pasta, the aglio olio was abit too oily for my liking, it was soaked in olive oil! The unagi was one whole big piece that took up half the plate space, very generous I would say.
The unagi tasted really special with the pasta. I would wanna try this dish on my next visit! It tasted so special, I've never tasted anything like that before. Who would have though unagi goes so well with spaghetti?!
The fish & chips looked exactly like Fish & Co's except their serving was a little smaller. The tartare sauce was very good for a tartare sauce lover like me! They used dory fish and it was fresh and smooth.
My cajun chicken was a big disappointment though! I couldn't taste the seasoning of the chicken. It tasted so bland and the mozarella cheese that was melted on top of the chicken didn't add flavour to it either!
I was disappointed with my choice of dish! Had the cream brulee for dessert was it was soooo sweet. I saw a few customers having their pasta and they looked really yummy.
I am determined to try their pastas on my next visit!
I was looking for a nice place for my sister's birthday when I came across Hog's Breath Cafe and they were having a 1-for-1 promo at that time.
After hearing from my friend how yummy their steaks were, I gave it a go and brought my family there for a meal!
We ordered a total of 6 dishes, with a variety of their famous steaks, chicken and a fish.
The service was great because there were less than 5 tables occupied when I was there. The waiters were meticulous when introducing the specials and the dishes to us. Ice water was also served and refilled promptly!
The food came shortly and we were really pleasantly surprised by their nice presentation.
Tex-Mex Combo:
The mexican wrap was really good, the filling was genorously given and I love the special sauce that goes along with it. The whipped potato was nicely done and the mushroom sauce for the steak is good.
Baby Back Ribs:
The ribs were tender & juicy! It has 8 ribs altogether and we had the Hog Tail Fries to go along with it. My family and I are totally in love with their fries! The taste is so good you won't get tired of it.
Reef Ranger Prime Rib:
This dish consist of a prime rib and 3 grilled prawns. The prawns were big and fresh. Rib was medium done, juicy and yummy!
Calamari w/ Prime Rib:
The calamari ain't fantastic to have much to rave about. I think their batter isn't that good as other restaurants have got to offer.
Pan Fried Sea Bass w/ Mango Chutney Sauce:
This dish is really refreshing with the mango sauce drizzled over the pan fried sea bass. The sea bass was fried till perfection and it tasted so heavenly with the sweet/sour mango sauce! Yum~
Chicken Dijonnaise:
This is a chicken dish, with the chicken grilled and then eaten with a sweet mustard sauce. The sauce is very good.
Overall, Hog's Breath is a place worth to go for a catching-up meal with friends. After your meal, there's even a bar downstairs for you to have a drink! And with the 1-for-1 promo, we only paid a little over $100 for our meal.
Fatty Weng is definitely one of the best "zhi cha" I've tasted! I've been visiting them every now and then for about 7 years and the food still tastes as good as ever.
Unlike most "zhi cha" places, you get to dine in an air-conditioned place, which is a huge plus. Service is fast and friendly too.
As for the price, I wouldn't say it's value for money though. A dinner for two cost me $30 . It's not surprising though, as there seem to be a lot of caucasian diners here.
Having read something somewhere that the german sausage platter for 2 was good, i spent my 2nd anniversary at Brotzeit.
The menu was slightly confusing to me, since most the words are in german, with only a line of english. Have to read for quite sometime before you understand what they are offering.
Ordered a beer well, i forgot what beer, but it is on their first page of the menu. Plain beer? Ummm... I am not a beer person, but I LIKE THEIR BEER! It tasted so nice, that i could not stop drinking and i swear i will be back for the beer!
Ordered the Sausage platter for 2, and there is like 5 different kinds of sausage on the platter. I think we had chicken, lamb, ermm.. and i couldn't remember what other kinds of meat. They tasted kinda oily to my liking, but i love the mustards! They have 3 different kinds of mustard, and they all tasted very mild and pleasant to the tongue!
According to the menu and the table beside us, they have quite alot of german sausages on their menu, they even have goose liver sausage! But we didn't get to try it. But the normal sausage main portion was kinda small for the price. Just a miserable 2 or maybe 3 small sausages on your plate! I think the platters for 2 are much more worth the money!
After our hearty meal of sausages, i felt abit sick of sausages, and my partner complained that although the meal was filling, but eating sausages only doesn't equate to a MEAL in his dictionary. My man needed some MEAT, real meat i guess.
And off we go for our 2nd round of dinner!
Service is good, the menu was sent promptly to us, and the server introduced our sausages to us. But the cooking time was abit too long for sausages.
I would recommmend this restaurant for their beers only! Beer is good! 3 stars for just the beer! The sausages was soso, the other items on the menu i haven't go the chance to try, hope that more reviews will come!
When the outlet was first opened in AMK, the crowd was still ok, you order at the counter and the food was served within like 15mins or so.
Now, after much media exposure, the waiting time had be streeetccccch to 45 mins or more. And that doesn't include the QUEUEING time to place the order. I would say maybe 20 mins or so to queue to order? So you gotta prepare at least 1 hour to wait. Dun go with a growling stomach!
Food:
I never fail to order the steaks there. Ribeye is good! Cajun chicken was the must order for my friend. Fries are usually very generously given. Portion of the food was big, as compared to normal coffeeshop/ market portions.
Food served are usually piping hot, but there was once, they sorta waited for all our orders to be ready then served, and one of our main was cold already =( but overall still good.
Service:
Service is very good, staffs are very polite!
Pricing:
Considered expensive for coffeeshop. But portion similar to cafes, and i think the price is considered medium range. Can comfortably feed 2 person for less than $30.
