My Dear recently is working on an Advert project on this “Ah Mei”. I as a KPO Queen, of coz, will follow him to Ah Mei to do research.
Saw “Banquet” ~ definitely its HALAH. Ah Mei is also selling things like Ya Kun - KAYA Toast (which I dun like), but they also sell another local favourite - PRATA.
Got ‘real’ fish in the curry. I mean normally we dun get to eat meat with the Prata curry. This branch will give you see the REAL ingredients in the curry.
I think only at Sun Plaza branch then you can eat MINI PRATA. Novena Square Branch dun have.
They sell nasi brani also. But but… its damn expensive leh. One drum stick will cost you SGD2. So I couldn’t part with my 2 bucks in exchange for the orange-crust fried drum stick.
I think different branches will have their own speciality. Coz some of the items can only be found at certain branch.
I never heard about this Miss Clarity Cafe before. Its at Purvis Street. A friend recommended and we went there to have dinner cum supper after an outing.
They serve western and some local favourites. We were lucky to get a table at that late hour coz the cafe was actually quite pack.
My friends ordered Potato Munchskin & Chix Salad. As for me & My Dear, we ordered set dinner. My Dear who dun like Vegetables, surprised me by finishing the salad!
My main dish was Stew Chix with pasta. Actually that’s not my first choice, coz all priority choices were sold out. Frankly speaking, this dish is so-so. Very home-cooked feel. Which means, my mum can cook too. Very suitable for those who missed home-cooked food. The chicken seems to be cooked with out defrosting it. Tough & dry.
My Dear’s main dish was this fried chix bake rice. Eh… also so-so only.
I wanna mentioned My Frienc’s main dish - Lobster linguine. Why? Coz they use the wrong pasta. Linguine was too soft for this dish. Too much of it will make pple feel ’sick’. If its spaghetti (swop with my pasta) then it might be better.
Haaa… mostly seems to be bad comments about the food. :p But for the price, its reasonable, juz that I am a bit picky. :p
I like the soup, salad and ICE CREAM…. Haaa… not their main dish. Maybe becoz all these are not their ‘direct’ product. :p
My sis brought me to this HongKong Cafe (师奶茶餐厅) at Novena for dinner. I have never try anything there before. I always go to the Xin Wang for Hongkong cafe food. Din like Tong Shui’s food also.
The menu is filled with alot of dishes. My sis wondered if all the items listed are available. I told her that the basic ingredients are there, cooking style different only.
We ordered a couple of things. Hongkong Milk Tea Sliced Fish with Flat Rice Noodles 鱼片三捞河粉 Seafood Buckwheat Noodles 海鲜伊付面 Dim Sum - Har Kaw & Pork Ribs
Verdict - TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT 1. Sliced Fish with Flat Rice Noodles 鱼片三捞河粉 Bland, tasteless. I add alot of green chilli and red chilli still find it inedible. So not to waste food, I finished only the tastless sliced fish.
2. Steam Pork Ribs Not flavourful too. Oily. No meat. Yes, I know its pork ribs, so you can expect it to be meaty. But i din expect it to be so boney.
At least things that my sis ordered are still edible - the milk tea, the buckwheat noodle and the Har Kaw. Yeah, at least its filled with prawn and not minced pork with a bit of prawn.
One day, my Dear told me he was going to bring me to a secret place for lunch. I asked where? He refused to tell me. Only asked me to meet him at Bukit Timah Plaza.
When we got there, I saw the familiar setting of dining ~ the stall was featured on TV. It was on “What to eat at next stop” ( 下一站吃什么). The owner is a Korean Mother.
Haaa… so.. not much of a surprise but my Dear’s idea of bringing me there was surprising enough.. as he dun eat Korean food. While for me, I do like it.
Their Kimchi - Not flavourful enough. A bit spicy. Only can taste the hot spiciness. No sweet cabbage taste. Sorry to say, I had tasted better Kimchi.
Their pancake is good, but abit too thin. Haaaa…
Their Ginseng Chix soup is flavourful. Mashita! But the serving a bit too little. We got to ask the staff to add more soup for us.
My Dear dunno how to order, he only know Chix Soup, so I ordered a bowl of rice for him and black noodle for myself. The noodles are the normal yellow instant noodle that you can get from supermarket. The black sauce also is available. It tastes like the Japanese UFO instant dried noodles.
Its been a while that I visit Ramen Ten @ Far East Plaza.
I decided to go ‘vegetarian’ ~ Mushroom Ramen. The soup base is thick with a strong milk taste. For pple who dun like milk, might not be able to accept it. The mushrooms had a strong ‘mushroom’ taste (raw raw taste lah) - the natural taste might not be acceptable by majority too. The ramen is Q. Very tasty. :D
My Dear ordered the Tom Yam Chix Katsu Dried Ramen. Spicy and not a bad try of Thai-Jap Fusion.
Chix Karage abit hard and oily. Think over cooked.
Found this new Japanese Grilled Seafood stall at Takashiyama, near the escalator of B2. It used to be the Hokkaido Okonomiyaki stall.
We were there quite late. So some of the items are sold out. I wanna try the Oden set, but no more. However, the aunty is kind to give me free sample to try - whatever is left in their pot. heehee… and its Oiishi!! The soup base is bonito, sotong tentacles and radish boiled, so its very flavourful. My Dear said he dun like the “fishy smell” and the salty taste.
I ordered by Favourite - Yaki Ika meal (S$8.90). The miso soup is not ordinary miso soup, its Seafood Miso! The Yaki Ika is not too tough, but crunchy after the grilling.
My Dear is not a Seafood lover. He only take Fish. So, he ordered Unagi Set ($$7.80), but he loves the Seafood Miso Soup. :D They put Sotong, pieces of Salmon, radish, other kind of fishes in the Miso Soup. Of coz, I got to take all the “good” stuff from his soup. :p
Dunno whether its that we were hungry or the food is really GOOD, we finished almost everything!
They close around 9pm and its always packed coz they have limited eating area.
I love Japanese Food. I like to try the food, and try cooking at home. Heeheee..
My Dear loves Sashimi, especially Salmon Sashimi. But I am allegied to raw fish. Can’t touch and eat them. :( However, I am able to eat amebi (raw prawn) and ika (squid). :D & I LOVE IKA SASHIMI. Its quite tough to fine cheap and good Japanese Food. Cheap as in reasonable or best buy pricing; Good as in fresh and well prepared.
My Dear and I found out this Japanese Restaurant in Chinatown, hidden or shadowed by MacDonald, Chinatown Point.
By chance, we got an invitation from the Boss as my Dear posted a ‘heartful’ blogpost about Takaya Bistro. :D & so happen that they opened a branch near my place - Upper Thomson. They took over the place from Sushi OM, which the Boss is an interior designer, so the decor is damn cool. :D
We are fortunate to try their signature dishes at no cost. :p
Takaya Special Appetizer - consists of Celery, Carrot, and the unique roots - Huai Shan (淮山). Not sure what it is called in English, but I know we normally use the dried one for chinese herbal soup.
Japanese Braised Pork - Tender, juicy, not that oily like the Chinese style. Maybe its becoz they din use the belly meat.
Braised Beef - I dun take beef. According to my Dear, its flavourful and tender.
Yaki Shitake - One of my favourite dish! I will always order this dish. Its nicely grilled till crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. It is lightly sprinkled with salt to bring out the natural shitake sweetness.
Black Pepper Prawn - Spicy. I really do mean spicy. From the first bite onto the de-shelled prawn, I tasted the sweetness of mayonnaise, then the spicyness of the black pepper. The style is like the wasabi prawn, only different is one is wasabi, the other is black pepper.
Lobster Dish - I forgot what is the name of this dish, so I called it the Lobster Dish. The lobster is steam/boiled (not sure), and slices of lemon were inserted in between the meat. Eat it while its warm. Lobster’s meat as compared to prawn, is definitely tougher. This is dish when I tried, its abit over cooked, so the meat is tougher, and the lemon pieces were too thick, so it makes the meat filled with the lemon sour taste. Can’t taste any Lobster’s sweetness. If it was to be a Lobster sashimi (or the meat is 80% cooked) with thin slices of Lemon, might be better.
Salmon Roll - Tempura Prawn wrapped in fresh Salmon sashimi. A pity that I cannot eat the salmon. My Dear ‘undressed’ the roll and let me eat the prawn. One comment : FRESH! Even the prawn is fried, I can still taste its freshness! :D
Grilled Salmon Head - One of their top dishes. I admit that I dun really know how to appreciate Salmon, but this one really caught my taste bud’s attention. The meat is grilled just right, smooth and juicy. The best part is the cheek and the crispy skin!!!! Yummy!!! I LOVE SALMON SKIN!
Cold Sake - I am a wine drinker. Tried Sake before (on airplane), can’t really take the spicyness. Always heard how smooth and tasty warm Sake is, had seldom heard about drink Sake cold. But this one, this particular brand, must drink it cold. Really cannot imagine how sweet and smooth the taste of this cold Sake is. It run down the throat leaving a sweet trace… Shiok!
Grilled Ika - MY FAVOURITE! Not the hokkaido style, but its damn sweet and chewy… Heeheee…. Its all mine, coz my Dear dun take ika! :D
Swordfish Sashimi - One of the expensive sashimi. The Boss insisted that my Dear try it. Coz its rarely served. My Dear said it tasted smooth and firm, bery unlike Salmon which is smooth and soft.
Its not easy to handle Soba or Ramen. Coz you need to be accurate with the cooking time to avoid over cooked or under cooked. Noodles must Q. The soup base is also important as noodles itself is tastless.
So… much of introducation of their dishes. Go try it yourself lah… they got buffet lunch at SGD19.80nett and dinner at SGD23nett. Value for money! Coz their items are very fresh!
Had lunched at Hooked! which is at the Railway Mall on MAY DAY. Its a very family restaurant. The staff are friendly. We ordered the set with mushroom soup. Appetizer - Calamari with fried Fish skin. As usual, my Dear ordered his Fave - Fish & Chips. Being adventurous, I ordered stir fried linguine with Otah.
Soup is not bad, not like its totally from Campbell. It has additional fresh mushroom. Fried Fish skins and Calamari are addictive though the calamari can be better. My Dear’s Fish & chips uses Dory Fish. I dun really like Dory Fish, coz it has a funny taste. My linguine is a bit too oily. Maybe I should not be too adventurous for a first-time visit.
My Dear & I trying out this White Dog Cafe on last Friday. Its packed with pple for dinner and also desserts and drinks.
Our appetizers: Triple Mushrooms Soup A must-order for Mushrooms lovers like us! It’s thick and creamy!
Fried Spicy Chix Wings Must eat it while its hot! It’s juicy and crispy! The special thai chilli goes well with amost anything!
Traditional Fish & Chips My Dear’s main dish. I like the fries. Crispy crust with firm filling inside. I dun take fried battered fish coz I afraid its not well done inside. Then I will have problem. :p
Whole Chicken Leg Yes, this is my main dish. I am a chickentarian. I never get sick of the mushroom sauce. They have this black fungus (or some kind of mushrooms) added. It delicious!
We are all too full to have desserts. Hmmm.. maybe next time. :)
"Love me somebody once said, and the world is mine."
I went down to try this petit french-Japanese bread shop at The Central with my Dear.
Bought the cream wassant which is one of their speciality - Le Petit Three; and Pon which has cheese in it. We like this one. More flavourful and most of all, I like its texture. Damn chewy. :p
I tried their tea cake which came in 3 different flavours - Green Tea, Original and Chocolate. Dun really like it as its a bit dry though it does look dry.
They have samples for you to try, so U can decide what to buy and not regreting it. :p
