We were on a burger eating binge and ended up at Omakase Burger one weekend morning. Apparently OM serves up one of the best burgers in Singapore, as evidenced from the frequent citations in various media sources.
The place works (and looks) very much like a cafe. Prices are displayed overhead as well as at the counter where you place your order and make payment. Your food will be delivered to your seat. The interior is rather chirpy through the use of bright colours and bright lights (part of the lighting comes from the mall).
Omakase Chicken Sandwich Combo - We had the truffle fries with our chicken sandwich and it was unevenly splashed in truffle oil, which meant some portions of the fries bucket were dry whilst others were glistening with oil. Real classy.
And we thought that perhaps the chicken burger would do wonders. But we overestimated its potential. The chicken fillet was deep fried to a crisp but could do with a little more moisture (not oil) and seasoning to bring out the flavours. Read. Bland and oily. And I never thought I would ever say this but the batter was way too crispy for my liking and it unceremoniously left a few puncture wounds in my mouth. Almost fifteen bucks for the sandwich alone, seriously? Did I mention that the sandwich was small? Think the golden arches' fillet o fish size, maybe a whisker larger.
Applewood Smoked Bacon Cheeseburger Combo - And in continuing the tradition of small burgers, the bacon cheeseburger was, well, small, by many accounts. However it did taste much better than it's friend, the chicken burger. The patty was done to medium but came across as more oily than juicy whilst the bun, though soft, was bland. The highlight of the burger was definitely the applewood smoked bacon; crisp without coming across as too dry, imbued with a nice smokiness and saltiness.
Available only on weekends, the signature beef tallow fries were pretty good; golden brown exterior with a lingering bovine aftertaste. Think McD's fries on a good day. The fries could do with a little more moisture though.
Both our burger combos came up to almost $53 which was quite pricey considering the size and quality of the burgers. In short, Omakase Burger was a let down and is nowhere near Suprette's offering, neither in size nor in taste.
This is a relatively small restaurant along the common walkway between Orchard Gateway and 313 Somerset. Each day as we walked pass this outlet for lunch, we noticed the aroma of fresh prawns been steamed. We have originally thought they serve only dumpling noodles as that was what we observed from most of the diners.
But upon looking at the menu, we discovered that they also serve congee, roast meats, double-boiled soups, fried rice and some side dishes.
Triple Mixed Roast Meat ( Signature Dish ) - $28.50
- choice of roast pork, roast duck, soya sauce chicken or barbecued pork. The meat for the duck, chicken and barbecued pork (char siew meat) was tender and it tasted well marinated. The skin of the roast duck was thin and sweet and not fatty.
Shrimp Wonton - $8.30
- a bit steep for 8 pcs in a bowl. The broth was lukewarm and the mere fillings in each wonton was not up to our expectation.
Seasonal Vegtables with Garlic - $12.00
- one of the most expensive vegetable dish that we have eaten. It was Chinese kale (kai lan) being blanched and topped with oyster sauce. We could not see or taste any garlic flavour as mentioned on their menu.
Mango Sago - $4.50
- cold refreshing dessert with generous topping of thick mango puree, big chewy sago balls, evaporated milk and mild taste of lime juice.
Overall, we felt that the prices are on the high side. It has deter us on many items that we wanted to try such as their Special Congee ($12.80), Mixed Roast Meat Noodle ($10.50) , Pig’s liver ($14.00) and Seafood Curry Rice or Noodle ($15.50)
The wife and I are quite a fan of Gordon Ramsay, having dined at his eponymous restaurant in London less than a year back. So when it was announced that Bread Street Kitchen (BSK for short), his first foray into Singapore, would open for business on 19 June 2015, we immediately made reservations for the following weekend.
Located near a corner of the swank The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, BSK prides itself on serving up a British European menu with fresh seasonal produce and takes up 2 levels of space (B1 and L1) at the mall. From our observations, the dining area on B1 is much smaller and consists mostly of bar counter seats as well as an open concept kitchen while L1 offers a more expansive dining area with lots of natural light (from the floor to ceiling glass panels) and views of the surrounding Marina Bay area.
Although the place markets itself as an informal dining space, there is a smart casual dress code listed on the website. But enforcement probably isn't strict as I did notice quite a few people in bermudas and slippers. Note to self to wear favourite pair of slippers next time round.
Complimentary Bread - Served barely lukewarm, the complimentary bread basket didn't quite impress and I must say that the bread roll was rather dense and compact (in a good way) but with an yeasty aftertaste.
Traditional Fish & Chips, Crushed Peas, Tartar Sauce - I'm usually not a huge fan of fish and chips but this was pretty decent; light, crispy batter coupled with mildly sweet, tender flesh. Accompanied by a richly smooth tartar sauce and a sweetly refreshing crushed pea puree (I think there was a sprinkling of thyme in it, which explains the lingering, mild mint like cooling effect). The fries were crisp and nicely salted but having said that, I'm more of a fan of shoestring fries.
Irish Angus Rib-eye Steak 12oz 28 Days Aged Grass Fed - Irish beef is purportedly gaining in popularity for its quality and if BSK's Irish Angus Rib-eye is anything to go by, I'm quite inclined to agree. The 12oz (~340g) piece of steak was done to an almost perfect medium rare, lightly salted, tender with bits of chewy fat and full of juicy flavour. At $68 (definitely not casual dining prices though), this could really give the steakhouses in Singapore like Morton's and Ruth's Chris a serious run for their money.
Macaroni Cheese with Garlic Roasted Crumbs - This was a side that was meant to be served together with our mains but unfortunately, the mac & cheese didn't show up till we were almost done. And if we hadn't asked halfway through, I'm not sure if it would even show up. The much longer than usual wait aside, the mac & cheese, though rich and cheesy with a nice crunch from the roasted crumbs, tasted more like béchamel sauce than cheese. Nothing like the mac & cheese from The White Rabbit (though I once had a nasty rendition from them ~ 2 years back)
Banana Sticky Toffee Pudding, Muscovado Caramel, Clotted cream - And on to desserts. Our toffee pudding tasted like a more refined version of the banana cake from Bengawan Solo; moist, with a rich banana taste and a sweet finish from the caramel. Not a big fan of clotted cream though.
Treacle Tart with Crème Fraiche Ice Cream - A traditional British dessert (and a favourite of Harry Potter), the treacle tart sported a crusty, uneven surface and a rather dry, crumbly filling on a base of rock hard pastry. I've never had a treacle tart before and this virgin exposure was somewhat pleasant although it did come across as overly sweet and a tad stodgy. Thank god for the crème fraiche ice cream, which helped to maintain a balance with its light sourish notes.
There was an issue with the Point of Sale (POS) system so we had to wait ~ 15 minutes for our final bill (our initial bill had apparently been settled with an unknown credit card number). Boo-boos aside, at close to $172 for 2 pax, it's honestly a little pricey, especially for the quality of food and the "informal/casual" labeling of the restaurant. Service was spotty (our bottle of water never got refilled until I asked) but the staff do try to be friendly.
Overall, BSK strikes me as a decent place to have a meal if you are at Marina Bay Sands but I wouldn't see it as a specific dining destination. Having said that, if BSK can iron out the kinks and refine their pricing strategy, I'll be happy to return, if only for the steak.

They have moved to Kallang when their old lease expired at Marina Square.
We like this new atmosphere because it is a smoke free and non liquor environment. This also means that we can bring along children to eat and have family bonding time.
Besides singing, the singers will also talk about concepts of life, their personal experiences and even create jokes for a good laugh.
The café also serves a variety of food items :
1. Peranakan dishes like chap chye ( mixed veg ), ayam buah keluak ( chicken Indonesian black nuts ) and assam fish or seafood
2. Western dishes like Teriyaki chicken, Duck ramen, Mushroom soups, Tempura squids, Chicken chops & fries, etc
We have decided to visit this place again since we are semi hungry for some light food. As usual, the place look crowded even though we saw a few empty tables. Look like there is a shortage of staff as no one seem to notice the short queue of customers at the main entrance.
When we decided to walk towards the empty tables, one of the staff suddenly realised that all of us are standing impatiently at the entrance.
The staff apologised repeatedly and explained that three of their staff are on medical leave. So, they are short-handed and ask us to be patient if service is below expectation.
We ordered their usual ramen together with some side dishes.
Sanpou Tonkotsu Ramen - consists of 3 different types of meat : pork belly marinated in two different types of sauce and braised pork cheek. The cheek meat was soft and tender but the pork belly meat is so so only. Unfortunately, the broth look very diluted and tasted salty.
Spicy Minced Meat Ramen - simple ingredients yet delicious. The broth is thick and has the sweetness of pork bone. The minced meat was finely mixed with the spicy sauce and therefore give a kick to the whole dish. We also like the semi-cooked half egg floating on top of the ramen.
Pan Fried Dumplings – Each dumpling has generous meat filling and you can taste the juiciness of the meat mixture.
Fried Chicken Bits – Nuggets tossed in sweet sauce. Initially, we thought the meat has shrunk because it looked like over-fried but surprisingly, it tasted delicious. The chicken skin is fried till perfectly crispy outside but maintaining the moisture in the tender meat.
Overall, the dining atmosphere is much better as there are lesser diners and therefore, not so noisy that we could still hold a conversation.
Common Man Coffee Roasters, a collaboration between Harry Grover of 40 Hands, Five Senses Coffee and the Spa Esprit Group (behind brands such as Skinny Pizza, Tiong Bahru Bakery, ODP etc) and one of the "in" places to have brunch at in recent days. Desperately wanting to feel young again, I made the long trek to Martin Road (cut throat parking charges!) to try and wrangle a table for brunch (they don't take reservations).
Full Breakfast - The Full Breakfast consisted of 2 free range organic eggs done in any style (I had mine poached), bacon, sausage, tomato salsa, chorizo hash brown, mushrooms and pork cannellini beans with artisanal sourdough toast. In all honesty, everything was pretty average and nothing really stood out. It was just a mixture of flavours that happened to find find themselves on the same plate. At $26 , this was really quite expensive.
A coffee and a breakfast platter cost almost $36. I usually wouldn't blink at such a price but quality of food really doesn't justify the price. So what brings locals and expatriates alike to CMCR? Is it the coffee? The food? The service? The sense of belonging? I really wouldn't know but I'm guessing it's not the food.
Popped by Molly Malone's Irish Pub last weekday evening for a short drink. I must say the happy hour is a pretty good deal coupled by a good live band that played that funky music all evening i was there.
We itch for some savoury food while having some fresh kilkenny from the tap as such we ordered some fried wings which arrived in about 20 mins.
The fried chicken wings were delicious. Smoking hot crispy crust with a juicy inside and was so aromatic even the band was tempted to have a bite. The place is pretty old school, decorated with many ancient items thats speaks sixties Singapore / British...
Crowd was pretty disseminated with some sitting outside the bar, some in another room and more on the higher level. Love the peek a boo feel of the place that created much privacy for many. For me... I love to hang at the bar...
Great place to chill after work with friends or alone with fresh beer and yummy chicken wings.
If you are looking for a place to splurge the afternoon than PS Cafe at Ann Siang Hill is the perfect place for that romantic meal be it brunch, dinner or supper.
Built atop the scenic Ann Siang Hill, in a heritage shop house with all 3 levels made to look stylishly old British. Seasoned leather couches, wooden staircases and intricate details that reminded many of our short stint with the British before independence made the whole place strangely nostalgia even though I was not born during that time.
The location was not easy to spot as the entrance is somehow perched on top of a landing on the small hill and while we entered the level 1 bar (which is like a snipplet of 'WESTERN BAR', if you could recall the game), long wooden bar with a handsome looking bar tender, wooden framed windows and wooden bar stools...
Shortly shown to our seats and carefully reminded that every patron had to order at least one dessert, we prodded up the wooden stair case up to a cool level 2 drawing room. Well, I'm impressed by the number of aircon fan units i see, almost above every table theres one and the menu was pretty concise however housed the most interesting concoction of desserts i've ever seen.
I ordered a calming tea that arrived in a pot, hoping to calm myself from all the rush on a weekday afternoon and also ordered one of my favourite dessert, the date cake that was warm, moist and date sweet that arrived with a large serving of premium vanilla ice cream.
My friends ordered cappuccino which is pretty standard coffee with a creamy tiramisu served in a bowl infused with the goodness of flavoured syrup. While another ordered a banana cheese cake which was a little too cheesy for me.
While we envied our neighbour's truffle fries, we ended up ordering a basket for ourselves. I must say... they were really generous with the delicious truffle oil and the fries was crispy and yummy. Though many couldn't finish their servings, our table did... Thanks to Miss truffle fries LOVER....
A tea time chit-chat session at this pretty joint cost us $99 for 3 drinks, 3 desserts and one truffle fries. Extravagant but worth every cent. Love the ambience, love the yummy desserts, love our neighbours which BTW... are a few handsome magazine cut-outs....
The famous fresh creamed pastries have arrived in Singapore. I was utterly amazed by the beautiful selection i see in the showcase fridge and found the pricing to be affordable, as such i went on a cake spree.
They have a good selection of various classic and new creations for their legendary fresh cream cakes and they even do sell half cakes, meaning you can buy a full cake of 2 delicious flavors, half of this and half of that. Matter of fact I spotted a guy in front of me choosing 6 slices to complete one cake.
Prices were about $5 - $8 per slice of cake and the cross section looked packed with yumminess and of a decent portion. While you may not be a cake fan... you must try the cream mochi ($2.1) which is a floury soft chewy mochi with soft fresh cream and a dolop of chocolate, red bean, match or strawberry (4 flavors to choose).
There is so much more to try, I've yet to collect them all...

Hush TeaBar, a global movement, the first of its kind to promote tea appreciation in silence amidst the busy and rushed environment of modern cities such as a typical work place in Singapore. Not only does it aim to inculcate regular mindfulness of self-reflection, it also brings one on a journey to explore the creativity and strength we possess when we stop blotting ourselves out with noise and negative blabbers.
I am glad to be able to experience a typical hush tea bar experience and with the help of the lovingly trained, hearing impaired TeaRistas, I have been able to fully understood the power of silence and with it, the calming and strangely motivating effect.
The entire experience started off with me rushing to the venue and when i stepped into the Hush Tea Bar space, i was immediately greeted by friendly staff and their wave of calmness. Anthea, the founder of Hush Tea Bar gave an introduction on the different zones we were about to experience and we are off to our silent treatment.
The first zone is a time of appreciating the various tea moods (in which there are 12) and choosing the one you would like to experience. We were then made to silent our mobiles and hand them over to one of the TeaRistas who carefully store them away. (Yes... Tech Savvy generations would rather lose a hand before they surrender their mobiles), so there's a visible struggle there..... and then while we sat down with uneasiness without our handy gadgets (Should have brought that spare phone... grrrr......) we were led through a journey by the TeaRistas or how we were to enjoy the tea, what should we do and the various instructions in absolute silence except for facial and body expressions, hand signs and word cards which seemed to speak louder to me then when somebody is physically speaking with their vocal cords.
So while we pick our seats at the Tea appreciation zone, I carefully read the instructions placed on a beautifully moulded raw clay plate. While I closed my eyes, listening to the ringing of my ear drums, i could smell the various tea moods being served and the one i had 'Freshly Tranquil', smelt heavenly. I enjoyed my tea, taking my time to smell the leaves, feel the texture of the cup, sip, enjoyed the after taste and the serenity that felt interestingly comfortable.
While I felt able to move to the next episode, I quietly left the table and joined a few others in a time of tea art. Using the tea ink available, I expressed my feelings in various forms of lines and curves drawn using my finger and wrote some words of encouragement for the next participant, in return for the card i received earlier which says... i quote "Being Uncool is the coolest you can be!"
The entire session ended with a time of quiet sharing on the entire experience and completion of a survey form. Well, I felt more tranquil then I was before yet more clear-headed then while i multi-tasked. I enjoyed the feeling to the extent that I felt reluctant taking back my noisy gong (the mobile phone).
It was a fruitful experience for me and I enjoyed it tremendously. Will look forward to attend the session again and its a good movement which i encourage companies to consider having a hush corner in every office. It sure perked me up and made me clearer of my goals, my hopes and the important things in life.
At least for now... when i get home from all the RUSH... I would certainly make myself a cup of my favourite tea moods and get into the HUSH... The phone calls and outstanding work can definitely wait...

When we decided to walk towards the empty tables, one of the staff suddenly realised that all of us are standing impatiently at the entrance.
The staff apologised repeatedly and explained that three of their staff are on medical leave. So, they are short-handed and ask us to be patient if service is below expectation.
We ordered their usual ramen together with some side dishes.
Sanpou Tonkotsu Ramen - consists of 3 different types of meat : pork belly marinated in two different types of sauce and braised pork cheek. The cheek meat was soft and tender but the pork belly meat is so so only. Unfortunately, the broth look very diluted and tasted salty.
Spicy Minced Meat Ramen - simple ingredients yet delicious. The broth is thick and has the sweetness of pork bone. The minced meat was finely mixed with the spicy sauce and therefore give a kick to the whole dish. We also like the semi-cooked half egg floating on top of the ramen.
Pan Fried Dumplings – Each dumpling has generous meat filling and you can taste the juiciness of the meat mixture.
Fried Chicken Bits – Nuggets tossed in sweet sauce. Initially, we thought the meat has shrunk because it looked like over-fried but surprisingly, it tasted delicious. The chicken skin is fried till perfectly crispy outside but maintaining the moisture in the tender meat.
Overall, the dining atmosphere is much better as there are lesser diners and therefore, not so noisy that we could still hold a conversation.

Common Man Coffee Roasters, a collaboration between Harry Grover of 40 Hands, Five Senses Coffee and the Spa Esprit Group (behind brands such as Skinny Pizza, Tiong Bahru Bakery, ODP etc) and one of the "in" places to have brunch at in recent days. Desperately wanting to feel young again, I made the long trek to Martin Road (cut throat parking charges!) to try and wrangle a table for brunch (they don't take reservations).
Full Breakfast - The Full Breakfast consisted of 2 free range organic eggs done in any style (I had mine poached), bacon, sausage, tomato salsa, chorizo hash brown, mushrooms and pork cannellini beans with artisanal sourdough toast. In all honesty, everything was pretty average and nothing really stood out. It was just a mixture of flavours that happened to find find themselves on the same plate. At $26 , this was really quite expensive.
A coffee and a breakfast platter cost almost $36. I usually wouldn't blink at such a price but quality of food really doesn't justify the price. So what brings locals and expatriates alike to CMCR? Is it the coffee? The food? The service? The sense of belonging? I really wouldn't know but I'm guessing it's not the food.

Popped by Molly Malone's Irish Pub last weekday evening for a short drink. I must say the happy hour is a pretty good deal coupled by a good live band that played that funky music all evening i was there.
We itch for some savoury food while having some fresh kilkenny from the tap as such we ordered some fried wings which arrived in about 20 mins.
The fried chicken wings were delicious. Smoking hot crispy crust with a juicy inside and was so aromatic even the band was tempted to have a bite. The place is pretty old school, decorated with many ancient items thats speaks sixties Singapore / British...
Crowd was pretty disseminated with some sitting outside the bar, some in another room and more on the higher level. Love the peek a boo feel of the place that created much privacy for many. For me... I love to hang at the bar...
Great place to chill after work with friends or alone with fresh beer and yummy chicken wings.

If you are looking for a place to splurge the afternoon than PS Cafe at Ann Siang Hill is the perfect place for that romantic meal be it brunch, dinner or supper.
Built atop the scenic Ann Siang Hill, in a heritage shop house with all 3 levels made to look stylishly old British. Seasoned leather couches, wooden staircases and intricate details that reminded many of our short stint with the British before independence made the whole place strangely nostalgia even though I was not born during that time.
The location was not easy to spot as the entrance is somehow perched on top of a landing on the small hill and while we entered the level 1 bar (which is like a snipplet of 'WESTERN BAR', if you could recall the game), long wooden bar with a handsome looking bar tender, wooden framed windows and wooden bar stools...
Shortly shown to our seats and carefully reminded that every patron had to order at least one dessert, we prodded up the wooden stair case up to a cool level 2 drawing room. Well, I'm impressed by the number of aircon fan units i see, almost above every table theres one and the menu was pretty concise however housed the most interesting concoction of desserts i've ever seen.
I ordered a calming tea that arrived in a pot, hoping to calm myself from all the rush on a weekday afternoon and also ordered one of my favourite dessert, the date cake that was warm, moist and date sweet that arrived with a large serving of premium vanilla ice cream.
My friends ordered cappuccino which is pretty standard coffee with a creamy tiramisu served in a bowl infused with the goodness of flavoured syrup. While another ordered a banana cheese cake which was a little too cheesy for me.
While we envied our neighbour's truffle fries, we ended up ordering a basket for ourselves. I must say... they were really generous with the delicious truffle oil and the fries was crispy and yummy. Though many couldn't finish their servings, our table did... Thanks to Miss truffle fries LOVER....
A tea time chit-chat session at this pretty joint cost us $99 for 3 drinks, 3 desserts and one truffle fries. Extravagant but worth every cent. Love the ambience, love the yummy desserts, love our neighbours which BTW... are a few handsome magazine cut-outs....

The famous fresh creamed pastries have arrived in Singapore. I was utterly amazed by the beautiful selection i see in the showcase fridge and found the pricing to be affordable, as such i went on a cake spree.
They have a good selection of various classic and new creations for their legendary fresh cream cakes and they even do sell half cakes, meaning you can buy a full cake of 2 delicious flavors, half of this and half of that. Matter of fact I spotted a guy in front of me choosing 6 slices to complete one cake.
Prices were about $5 - $8 per slice of cake and the cross section looked packed with yumminess and of a decent portion. While you may not be a cake fan... you must try the cream mochi ($2.1) which is a floury soft chewy mochi with soft fresh cream and a dolop of chocolate, red bean, match or strawberry (4 flavors to choose).
There is so much more to try, I've yet to collect them all...

Hush TeaBar, a global movement, the first of its kind to promote tea appreciation in silence amidst the busy and rushed environment of modern cities such as a typical work place in Singapore. Not only does it aim to inculcate regular mindfulness of self-reflection, it also brings one on a journey to explore the creativity and strength we possess when we stop blotting ourselves out with noise and negative blabbers.
I am glad to be able to experience a typical hush tea bar experience and with the help of the lovingly trained, hearing impaired TeaRistas, I have been able to fully understood the power of silence and with it, the calming and strangely motivating effect.
The entire experience started off with me rushing to the venue and when i stepped into the Hush Tea Bar space, i was immediately greeted by friendly staff and their wave of calmness. Anthea, the founder of Hush Tea Bar gave an introduction on the different zones we were about to experience and we are off to our silent treatment.
The first zone is a time of appreciating the various tea moods (in which there are 12) and choosing the one you would like to experience. We were then made to silent our mobiles and hand them over to one of the TeaRistas who carefully store them away. (Yes... Tech Savvy generations would rather lose a hand before they surrender their mobiles), so there's a visible struggle there..... and then while we sat down with uneasiness without our handy gadgets (Should have brought that spare phone... grrrr......) we were led through a journey by the TeaRistas or how we were to enjoy the tea, what should we do and the various instructions in absolute silence except for facial and body expressions, hand signs and word cards which seemed to speak louder to me then when somebody is physically speaking with their vocal cords.
So while we pick our seats at the Tea appreciation zone, I carefully read the instructions placed on a beautifully moulded raw clay plate. While I closed my eyes, listening to the ringing of my ear drums, i could smell the various tea moods being served and the one i had 'Freshly Tranquil', smelt heavenly. I enjoyed my tea, taking my time to smell the leaves, feel the texture of the cup, sip, enjoyed the after taste and the serenity that felt interestingly comfortable.
While I felt able to move to the next episode, I quietly left the table and joined a few others in a time of tea art. Using the tea ink available, I expressed my feelings in various forms of lines and curves drawn using my finger and wrote some words of encouragement for the next participant, in return for the card i received earlier which says... i quote "Being Uncool is the coolest you can be!"
The entire session ended with a time of quiet sharing on the entire experience and completion of a survey form. Well, I felt more tranquil then I was before yet more clear-headed then while i multi-tasked. I enjoyed the feeling to the extent that I felt reluctant taking back my noisy gong (the mobile phone).
It was a fruitful experience for me and I enjoyed it tremendously. Will look forward to attend the session again and its a good movement which i encourage companies to consider having a hush corner in every office. It sure perked me up and made me clearer of my goals, my hopes and the important things in life.
At least for now... when i get home from all the RUSH... I would certainly make myself a cup of my favourite tea moods and get into the HUSH... The phone calls and outstanding work can definitely wait...
