Huang Jia was a real discovery for me. The ambience is really different from the usual Chinese restaurant, but what stands out is the quality and the care taken over the food. The flavours are delicate - not over-salted, over-starched, over-oily, over anything. After you have tried Huang Jia, other Chinese restaurants may seem deficient. And yes, the crispy roast chicken is the best I've ever eaten - thin, crispy skin on the outside, tender and juicy meat on the inside. I really don't know how they do it, but it is very special. And they maintain consistency - one of my bugbears is when a dish is excellent on one trip and poor on the next. I sincerely hope they will maintain this quality. People haven't discovered it yet and it is still pretty quiet, so get there before it starts to become known and get crowded. [Read more] |
