Went for dinner buffet at straits cafe with my family. The place has warm lighting which makes the ambience really great for fine dining. the place we sat at has sofa seats with cushions making it really comfortable.
there is a wide selection of food, from the normal sashimi, sushi, steak to more high end fresh raw oyster and laksa.but the oyster was not as fresh according to my mum and quite small in size..
i thot the laksa would seem quite out of place but no, it taste really good. my dad cant help but have 2 servings of it.
the overall taste of the food was satisfactory only but the dessert was the best, especially the durian 1s that it is famous for. the durian cake, pengot and puff were all made of real durians with really rich taste. something which we enjoyed the most!!
the price at 40 is really too high for international buffet like this, but is more worth a try if you use dbs credit card to pay cos there is a buy 2 get 1 free kind of offer. so the 6 of us that went spent about $210 which was quite ok..
My family went to Kuishin bo to celebrate my mum's birthday. We were attracted there for the big crab legs that it was famous for. The first 2 rounds were still ok but all of us agreed that somehow the crab legs get saltier and saltier each time! maybe thats why we see ppl getting really a lot at the 1st few times. we thot they were plain kiasu but no, there was a reason.
The variety of food was not bad, the normal paper steamboat, hot plate, chinese cuisine, sushi and sashimi that almost all international buffets would have. and they refill quite instantly so you always get the food you want.
I like their dessert variety. quite alot. With those jap kinds like red bean wan zi. and you can make the ice cream from the machine yourselves, which consist of green tea and vanilla flavour. we all like the ice cream!
There is also some this special about this buffet. Listen for the music and sometimes it goes "Dong dong dong, kuishinbo, we love kuishinbo" or sth like that. it means there is chef's special with limited pieces but for grabs. and every1 will flood over to get it. late and you wont have it. that time i went it was baked lobster with cheese, limited to 30 only! luckily i managed to take 1 cos i was nearby. it was at the paper steamboat there the last time. so must act fast! there is like only 1 or 2 times each session!
The queue is always very long. Throughout my course of meal i always see a lot of ppl queuing outside. So it would be good to go earlier!
Azabu Sabo has been famous for its authentic Hokkaido ice cream. A small cup of its ice cream like these costs $3.80, a bit expensice but it do guarantee the quality. if you are unsure of which flavour to choose, and do not want to regret ur choice, feel free to get the person to let u try the flavour you want! they do provide such services.
Green tea ice cream. there is a hidden taste of milk but not very strong. I heard its the authentic kind from Hokkaido. the taste is not too sweet and just right. i like the taste of the green tea. soothing for ur tongue.
Tiramisu. there is an obvious taste of wine in the ice cream. but again, not overwhelming. a veru special and unique taste which i have never tried before.
Do give it a try if you are craving for authentic jap ice cream =)
727 cakerie had been famous for its durian pastry. tried the durian puffs ($4.20 for a box of 6). the puffs were small but the fillings were rich. the whole puff is stuffed with solid durian fruit. the smell is really strong even before you open the box. its as good as eating a real durian fruit, save for the fact that there is a thin puff skin outside. the only minus point would be that you get the real ‘pulp’ in the fillings, which is harder than the durian fruit. some may feel that it adds to the texture while others would feel that it spoils the smooth texture of the fillings. well you have to try it and decide for yourself.
celebrated 2 friends’ birthday at wong kok char chan teng in bugis junction. the place was spacious and brightly lit. quite comfortable as a dining place. the price of the food range anything from $6.90 to around $18.
beef horfun. ($7.30) the plate was sure big. was quite fragrant but i couldnt really finish the whole plate.somehow it was nice on the 1st few bites but i got sick of it. perhaps the gravy was too much.
yang zhou fried rice ($6.90).quite a nice dish with a lot of ingredients that went in. taste was just right.
mango sago (6.20) the mango was sweet but i dun think its made of solid puree. the ice was a tad too much making it a bit diluted at the end. a bit too expensive for its price.
since it was my friend’s birthday, we got a complimentary “giant teh bing” (iced milk tea) when we showed the waitress the ic. you just need a min of 6 people and min purchase of $30 to get the drink. a lot of tourists came over to take photos with it. quite a memorable experience if you hadnt tried it before.
quite a nice place to chill out with friends but the food is so-so.. do go there to celebrate birthdays though!
