Ate dinner here twice for the past few weeks. Never managed to write a review yet though.
Firstly, this place is at the second flr of hougang mall which is a largely food oriented place with cafe cartel, etc. Some of the tables around for 2 persons are rather small, in the sense that it is small than usual width. Other than that, it's fairly spreadout, no bumping into other tables around.
Food wise, i ordered those typical jap hot pot with slices of beef for you to cook. It is quite gd. The soup is a tad salty though, maybe from my prolonged cooking which make it saturated. At this point of time, I must also comment on the service standard. Clumsy me accidentally tip the pot and quite a far amount of soup poured into the fire 'pit' below it. This left little soup in the pot to cook the many pieces of beet (at least 7 pieces) and a small flame. Offhand, I asked if they could help me top up the soup (not really in the mood for ownmade 'beef sushi') and was surprised that they do. They quite speedily brought my set in to change the fire and top up soup, allowing me to continue with my cooking of the beef. do not really know if other jap rest offered such services cause I'm not always clumsy.. haha..
My gf ordered some don set which was ok, typical stuff I must say.
The next time we went, we ate the sushi. The sushi are quite normal except for a few that includes cheese on it which isn't the typical stuff available. I think we ate a lobster cheese sushi or something. It is quite nice, though not typical jap sushi. sashimi is fresh too.
Service wise, it was quite ok - speedy and friendly faces.
Cost wise, each set is around 13 - 16 dollars. As a whole, the meal cost us around $28 which is quite acceptable.
For every $20, there is this chop on a card and you can accumulate chops to redeemn food voucher or food stuff.
Another downside is that there is no tie-ups with banks to offer any discount or such.
The place is at basement and it is quite a open-spaced concept, just like the one at citylink. Ambience wise, it is quite good, got soft music at background. Although it is quite open, it is not very noisy and is quite empty. Maybe it is lunch during a weekday.
Food wise, it offers the typical western meals. I had some beef steak. Fully cooked. Taste quite good due to the good marination.
There is also the Giant Yankee burger challenge. It's huge.. free if you can finish it all by urself!
Service wise, it is quite ok although i only got my food last among my 7 friends. It took around 15mins.
When it was there, they still give me a $10 shokudo voucher for over $100 spending. Interesting that branch of shokudo is at heeren.
Location wise, it is kinda inaccessible unless you are driving or cabbing. It is situated on the second floor of the building. You can't miss it.
Inside the cafe, it is decorated quite nicely, boutique style. There are around 4 tables facing the yacht berth. Not alot of seats. There are also mini chandeliers hanging around.
Menu wise, there are quite a wide variety of food. However, the price is quite steep. Around 17-20 for a main course. I had a chicken breast for 18 i think. The food tasted quite nice though. For cakes, you will probably need to go over to the counter to look at them yourselves. I can't find it in the menu. There is this devil's chocolate cake. It's very nice as the choco is very thick. For citibank member, there is a 15% discount. Overall, spent $50(inclusive of discount) for 2 mains, 1 drink, 1 cake. Nice and affordable place for a date.
After meal, you can tour around the place to take pictures and such. Nice photo opportunities around.
ate my dinner here today. There are actually a few part of the mcdonald separated at this place. There is a openair mcdonald area just outside the building, an air-conditioned area within the 1st floor of the building and a mccafe between its first floor at the basement. All are under shaw house.
I ate at the mcdonald in the building at 1st floor. Sitting wise, there aren't a lot of seats.
Food wise, it is quite nice, comparable to other outlets. 1 thing special i noticed, often, this outlet will be one of the few around to roll out new items on the menu. When i was there today, I saw shaka shaka chicken and spicy bbq chicken snack wrap. Price for the other items are the same as other outlets. I ordered an mega big mac. It was nicely made and the components within arent falling all over the place.
Service wise, it was quite efficient, considering i went on a weekend. Other than that, there are also newspapers available for you to read. This is a plus considering i didn't see it available at any other outlet.
Firstly, the ambience is quite nice. It is like a openair pub with live music. That day, it was 1 guy singing and the other playing the keyboard. I quite like how the lights are hang from the trees. There are also no other big tall buildings around. The chairs and tables are all wooden, providing a cottage like feel. Only drawback is the place is not so accessible unless you drive or take taxi. Though the roads are quite crowded, parking is not so much of a problem.
Drinks wise, as usual, you can drink from the tower or jug or glass. Price wise, still quite affordable. As the beers are made in house, they are quite different from tiger and such. They tasted sweeter. Appropriate for first timers. One of the beer is green in colour which looks weird but surprisingly tasted quite nice.
Service wise, it is quite ok. Drinks are brought quite promptly and seats are not so much of a problem if you reserve beforehand. Quite surprised to find out that they closed at 2am on Friday which is a tad early. Overall, a nice place to bring along friends for gathering.
