A specialty of this restaurant is their Japanese pancake/pizza which comes in various favours: seafood, prawn, beef & vegetarian. I tried the seafood @ $10.90, it is served in a hotplate similar to those at Pizza Hut, and cones with Miso Soup. Well I was expecting something great, but I was somewhat disappointed when I took my first bite. The ingredient was fresh, unfortunately the sauce used spolit the whole thing. Plenty of mayionne was added on top of the pancake, and they used some other favouring, together the taste was strange. I only made it through half of the pancake.
I also tried the Wayau? beef set which is going at the offer price of $13.90. The set consists of rice, miso soup, egg custard, vegetable salad, watermelon and the main dish of beef. All the portions are moderate or tiny. The veggie in the salad was fresh but the sauce made it taste salty. Perhaps I am not accustomed to Japanese salad.
Next the main course, rice, ... and watermelon were all served together. I wish they will serve the fruits later, but never mind I guess practices differ in restaurants. The egg custard, miso soup, rice, melons were all average.
The thin slices of beef was cooked with black pepper sauce, it was very spicy but the taste wasn't fantastic. The beef was placed on top of a toasted bread which looked quite ordinary, and served with bean sprouts.
On the whole, I think the beef set was slightly over-priced, although palatable. As for the pancake/pizza, I don''t think I would try it again. But then others may find it palatable.
Dr Oon is a male Chinese doctor approaching retirement age. He speaks in a slow and halting manner so you have to be patient when you hear him speaks. Unlike some doctors he doesn't bother to explain your condition, like the cause of it. Neither does he voluntarily offer much advice or information. So you have to be pro-active and fire questions.
By the way, although he is a skin doctor he doesn''t do aesthetic medicine, that is he doesn't recommend or sell you a whole range of skincare products to beautify your skin. But he does do skin peeling though.
A 10-15 minute consultation with some basic medications could set you back by $100 or more.
This clinic is run by 3 doctors- 2 ladies & 1 male. But most of the time, the male Chinese doctor is on duty.
The clinic itself is air-con, has a TV and a children playhouse. But the leather covering of its seats are all in tatters, it looks awful and I wish they would do something about it.
Well, I guess the medical expertise of the doctors is more important than the appearance of the clinic. The male doctor, Dr Yang, is serious, observant and tries hard to educate his patients. For example, he will use diagrams to explain his patients' conditions to them.
On peak hours, you may have to wait for a while for your turn.
Charges are average at about $30 odd for treatment of common illnesses.
Well I think the most unique offering of Isetan (Shaw Centre) is its supermarket. Unlike other supermarket, it sells Japanese specialty or other delicacy. Like deep-fried squids cooked on the spot. However prices are always a little on the steep side. For example, 1 serving could cost $10.
As for other grocery, it sells the typical brands found elsewhere but the prices are usually higher. So don't shop here for essentials unless you really have to.
I visited the ladies department before as well for accessory, the brands are quite common like Chomel, De Fingers, etc. But the salesgirl was quite attentive without making me feel like I am being harassed.
This bakery has been around for a long time and was suspended last year for food poisoning due to its chocolate cakes. But yet it still remain popular.
Well I think its bread & buns aren't as good as Breadtalk, but I think its New Year Goodies like Love letters, etc are worth trying as it is comparable to those at Bengwana Solo. Also its cakes are nice.
And there are the Chicken pies, which Breadtalk do not have. They come in Mini or regular size and are quite delicious.
Another specialty is their Waffles which can be filled with various favours like Chocolate, Kaya, etc. They are made on the spot.
Now they also sell Cupcakes but I prefer those at Crystal Jade in terms of taste and price.
However, the prices of most items are competitive.
