Most of the merchandise in this department store are mid-priced to exorbitant. For example, prices of its ladies shoes start from around $100 onward. So if you are looking for $20-$30 shoes try Bata.
My experience with the sales staff are pleasant on most occasions. However, an unpleasant experience I had was during the sale period with the staff in Takashimaya Square. I was shopping for bedlinen and household products there, and there was an hourly special deal. As the staff explanation was not clear and somewhat misleading, I seeked clarification, and his attitude was poor.
Located right next to Crystal Jade restaurant, both face Takashimaya Square. Its favourable location probably contributed to the perpetual crowd in this bakery.
Despite the crowd and queue, many are still willing to patron this bakery because of its wide variety of quality pastry and cakes. Almost exclusive to this outlet are the mini cupcakes, which they sell in various different designs. Prices start at about $1 each. After trying it, I do recommend them. I know that not every outlet sell them on the shelf, without a special order.
Another recommendation include Lao Pao Bin, which has a brown biscuit-like crust, and a sweet paste filling. The egg tart will also tantalise your tastebuds, the crust are light, crispy, and fluffy. The centre comes in egg yolk or egg white. They certainly beat those at Bengawan Solo and Prima Deli.
Besides these, they also sell cakes, biscuits, bao, chicken wings, and many more. So do check this store out if you haven't already done so.
Robinson is a great place to visit if you are looking for household products like cutlery, dinnerware, bedlinen, especially true during its sale period when great bargains can be had.
But if you are shopping for women apparels and accessory, probably Takashimaya will be a better choice. Taka has a much wider variety of shoes, bags, and clothings. Furthermore its clothing brands are trendier.
For men, you will find many discounted office wear during its sale, like Goldlion...
For children, its toys and clothings offering are reasonable.
Steak- lovers Jack's Place is the place for you with its many branches across the island and affordable pricing.
Although it specialises in steaks, still it offers other common Western main courses as well as a few type of Chinese food. For example, pizza, fish & ship, lobster, sphagetti, Fried Rice, Bee Hoon and many more can also be found on its menu.
For its steaks, there are the Garlic , Sambal , Black Pepper, Tenderloin, Sirloin, Fire steak, Jack''s special steak and a few others. You could have the Fire Steak if you are seeking some entertainment as alcohol is poured into it right in front of your eyes, so you could watch it burn for a few minutes. Next is the Jack's Special Steak, which cost about $22, but is worth every cent, considering its wonderful taste and juicey meat. It will leave you wanting more.
Note: most of its steak comes in hot plate which means the steak will cook as you eat, hence be careful of scalding your hand by touching the plate.
Besides the main courses, it also has salad, soup, dessert. Here I must compliment Jack's for being a great restaurant as it also serves delicious side dishes. Unlike some other Western restaurants like Delifrance, Swenson, it offer up to 5 types of soups , and all are appetitsing. Its Cream of Chicken & Cream of Mushroom are creamery and rich. Lobster bisque, onion soup, and soup of the day are the other 3.
Dessert worth trying includes Brownie, Apple pie or its own cakes.
Try its set lunches, if you are tightening your belt.
This outlet at Compass point isn't very large, so you may have to wait for a seat during peak hours.
This is a good place to shop for personal care products, like shampoo, shower cream, etc, as it offers a wide range and most at prices below what you will find in other shops. I find the prices even cheaper than at Watson, which usually give discounts. For example, a 400ml Nivea Body lotion cost $7.90 while at elsewhere it is $10.80. In short, you maybe able to save up to $2 for each item.
Brands you could find here include L'oreal, Nivea, Colgate, and other common brands, but don't expect to find upmarkets products.
As an added bonus, the sale people seem knowledgeable about their products too. I inquired about an out -of- stock product, and he informed me it has been re-packaged into another name.
