Buses, buses, buses. We see them everywhere on the road. Most of us have commuted on them at some point in our lives. Many of us have relied on this mode of transportation at least half of our lives, from our schooling days to our working lives. SBS has come a long way from the days when fare collection is done by a bus conductor to its use of a e-zlink card reader today.
Thus it comes as some surprise that some of our buses still do not have air-conditioning. And the waiting time for some buses still remain long, even during non-peak hours we could wait up to 20 mins if we miss a bus. For example, No.154. I wonder if the day will come when we can beat our sweltering tropical climate with some fans installed in our bus stops as we wait for the bus to chug along. Another complaint that I share with everybody else is, of course, the lack of seating places during peak hours.
But apart from the above gripes, most of our buses are clean and safe.
Veeko offers ladies fashion for the early twenties onwards. Collection are imported from Hongkong.
Designs are seldom very revealing, but can be brightly coloured. However, some tops are very fashionably designed.
Try coming here during the sales periond and you can buy one and get the second piece free. But they may not allow trying of some tops.
Once I fancy a jacket that has a loose button, as it was the last piece for my size I took it. But the staff did not bother to give me a discount or send it back to the factory to fix the button. I thought this aspect of its service could be improved. On most occasions that I shop here the staff are attentive and polite though.
Estyle sells ladies fashion imported from Korea. It is suitable for ladies in their early 20s to thirties. But I have seen older women buying too. Prices start from around $20. A dress will usually cost you $50 onwards.
So far I have bought only 3 dresses from this store. The fabric is soft and comfortable although it is not of premium quality. It also crumples easily. But the designs are trendy without revealing too much of your figure. Workmanship is average. On the whole, it offer a fashionable collection that is suitable for causal wear, without the need to burn a hole in your pocket.
Spending $200 entitles you to a discount card that is without expiry date. You can enjoy discounts of up to 15% with it.
PastaMania is a partially self -service restaurant, where you have to queue to place an order. However, the food is usually served to your table.
As its name suggests, it serves a variety of pasta. You get to choose the type you want from 4 choices, which are spaghetti, fusilli, linguine and penne. This is unlike other restaurants, like Delifrance, Jack's Place, etc where you do not get a choice of pasta. My favourite is the Beef Bolognese where there is a slight herbal taste, mingled in the tomato sauce.
However, perhaps you might want to avoid the Vongole pasta, which is pasta and clams in white wine sauce. It tastes fairly delicious but I had stomach upset after consuming this dish, and it happened several times.
The other main item on its menu is Pizza, it offers a wide selection of pizza that come in 3 sizes. The crust is biscuit-like that is brittle and hard. I would not say it is unpalatable, it depends on individual taste, but I still prefer Pizza Hut's crust.
Besides these, it has appetitisers, soups, desserts, beverages. The Minestrone soup is watery with some tiny pieces of vegetables, at $2.30 I do not think it is worth its price.
Coming to service, in general it is fine. But once, I bought takeaways and they forgot to pack in the soup, when I returned another day to inform them about it they simply kept silent even though I was a regular customer.
Today, they offer home delivery as well. Delivery is usually punctual and they include condiments and black plastic cutlery as well.
The Aussino at Paragon sell a wide range of households products from tableware, cups, pyjama , of course with a focus on beddings.
I once bought a comforter set but the staff refuse to open it to let me feel the quality, and there wasn't any samples either. But anyway, I bought it as it was a steal, and it turned out to be fine.
I think most of its tableware are microwave and dishwasher safe. And the pepper shakers are really cute. Toiletry set are also nicely designed suitable for both young and old.
