I think its a great idea to have a library that houses most of the library resources on ARTs & Music. The location is also extremely convenient with more than 10 buses available and a train station the is named the ESPLANADE as well as underground shopping tunnel malls that could lead to Marina Square, Suntec City and Raffles Place.
Located at level 3 with ceiling to floor glass facade which allowed natural sunlight and a fabulous view with a good airconditioning system to cool the hot summer afternoons, this is a great place to lounge around in search of your favourite artist or jazz singer. I love these little booths i call them which contain a player and headphones where you could listen to some of the selected titles which are featured or you could check one out at the counter. There is also screening booths for you to watch your selected articles. I was pretty surprised at the range of collection of the arts resources our National Library Group has and indeed they are all snapshots of our culture. Though we are a young country, but the multicultural art scene sure does bring colours to our artistic heritage.
I find that the librarians are also artistically inclined, as such non arty etiquette is very much abhorred. Do not be surprised if you are asked to exit the library if your mobile phone ringed or you are talking on your mobile phones. No chatting loudly and seating on the floors. Walk and quiet gestures are very much appreciated with the comfort of other library users. I like it this way... It makes my browsing experience very nice.
So if you have not been to this outlet of the National Library, its a must to visit. Just put on your artistic hat and go for a walk... Remember to silent your mobile phones and enjoy pretending to be Mozart...
Love the location of this place. The esplanade concert halls is situated iconic-ally in the esplanade building which is the heart of the ART SCENE in Singapore. Love the extravaganza feel of the place, laced with medium height red carpet and simple state of the art acoustically perfectly designed walls. The natural acoustics of the concert hall is designed to amplify the appropriate tones to allow almost perfect acoustics at every performance, while you will not get any sharp echos or feedbacks. With its start of the art sound and video equipment, we could expect fantastic visual and sound at every performance and optimum sound at almost every location of this 1000 seater with 2 levels of circle seats.
Love the spacious stage and the well designed seats that is both comfortable and has ample leg room. Air-conditioning quiet and the noise at the Foyer is well insulated.... Its indeed a very grand place and the Orchestral concert I went to is a superb test of the acoutics of the place. I could hear almost every instrument performed with the very low bass to the extremely high ting-ing of the triangle.
The foyer is also pretty grandly decorated and for a performance here, everybody is beautifully dressed in their gowns and glam wear... One of the reasons I love to come to this place for a performance or concert is to be able to spend a glam night and to scratch that arty-farty spot of mine :)
Everyone should go to a performance at the esplanade concert hall at least once and enjoy the CROWN JEWEL Seats and feel arty-farty-ly glam... Its for good fun and memorable experience. Get a few friends and dress up old english, just don't snore so loudly... it would be fine :)
Sorry no pictures allowed and watch the bag check, no cameras and even mobile phones looking cameras.... I am saddened by this.... :)

I'm always walking pass "Boston Seafood Shack" and telling myself that I must visit it someday... And today is the day...
With my 38 girlfriend firmly hooked arm to arm, we stepped into this interestingly furnished restaurant for some underwater delicacies. The furnishing is interesting.. really look like a shack on the beach... Wooden benches, rope boundaries marking the perimeter and interesting underwater ornaments on the wall and matching menu that looked resembles wooden sign boards cut out of pieces of drift wooden planks.
As we are being showed in by the friendly staff, we are given a pretty spacious seat for 4 though the restaurant is not exactly crowded, I'm glad they didn't stow us at some crappy corner for a seat for 2. The menu did not offer much dishes however a few interesting stuffs did catch my eye... They do offer the regular seafood based soup like clam chowder (which looked really yummy), pasta, seafood sandwich (i find interesting) and fingerfood such as deep fried calamari and fish & chips.
We ordered a Cheesy Crab Nachos.... which is heavenly... Picture this... nacho cheese generously drizzled on a bed of crispy nachos, topped with luxuriously littered salsa and a huge dollop of sour cream sprinkled with delicious crab meat... its really good... and the best i've ever had... The taste is extremely balanced with the crispiness of the nachos and savoury cheese topped with refreshing salsa balanced by a hint of the sea (crabby)... Every mouthful is a delight and i'm definitely going back for this again.
The serving size is great for sharing though its a pretty casual dining place whereby you will be paged to collect your food when its done and cutlery as well as other sauces are made available to be collected via self service. I kinda like this arrangement as I could get whatever i want by myself and I always love more serviettes as well as some dark balsamic vinegar to tingle the tongue...
Its a refreshing place with wonderful food at a really affordable price, I will definitely come again and the next time bring more friends so that I can try the other dishes.
Been to brozeit at this outlet as well. Agree with emilyvanessa.quek that the place is great for small gatherings.. Love the hardwood tables and the icy cold beer on the tap which by the way has got a couple of flavours to choose from. Though the place is littered with ceiling fans, its still way too warm for warm and humid singapore, as such... a cold beer is a must if you want to sit and laze for a longer period of time.
Besides the beer, i also tried the pork knuckles the last time round... Its crispy and juicy on the inside.. Love the sourish pickled cabbages that come with it.. It makes the deep fried pork less oily and more tasty. As usual, service is good even when it gets really crowded in the evening and I simply love their flavoured beer which is fruity and yet so easy to drink. I would recommend flavoured beer for occasional drinkers.
Beers are priced pretty okay and if you go during happy hours it would be extremely economical. Food is a little pricey but the portion is good for sharing. Great place just opposite chijmes but drop by earlier to avoid a seatless experience.. even on weekdays.. oops yar! remember to bring along your own mini fan.... unless you wanna experience your make up melting away :) Fantastic dinner crowd... noisy but enjoyable. Will bring friends....
Love Love LOVE this outlet... one of the largest Uniqlo Outlet in SG... Be prepared to be greeted by huge spaces, high ceiling and bountiful merchandises. I always love Uniqlo's brightly lit and neatly arranged shops.. They make shopping so pleasant and comfortable and the brightly coloured merchandises with such good quality and make coupled with the reasonable prices, who would not want to own a few of these fashionable pieces.
Love the entrance to this outlet, there is 3 entrances actually.. It is Spacious with 2 levels and a lovely escalator with patent red handrails transporting you between levels. There's also separate changing rooms for male (2nd level) and female (1st level) for privacy sake. Check out or payment counters are available for both levels. Cashiers so attentive and friendly oh yar.. did i forget efficient, you will get your merchandise paid for in a split second.
My little secret if you enjoy to steal a good bargain...
#1) Always check out the horizontal racks at the end of the shelves... They look like water troughs.. They usually have off-season items that can be bought for a fraction of the original price. Though perhaps the colours ain't that many to choose from, but the you might just find something you like.
#2) On the left side of the queue to the FEMALE changing room, check out the horizontal racks that is facing inwards towards the wall shelf of pajamas and ladies inner wear. At this location, you will find defected items which some lose a button or some small tiny weeny stain or perhaps super out-dated items that is left with one or two pieces... There you might just find a gem....
#3) Also check out the horizontal racks near the mirror of the centre pillar nearest to the MALE cashier... There is where we got some real fancy t-shirts (off-season but still interesting to have) for $12.90. A piece of corduroys shirt in earth colour and good condition (new) for $10. A 100% wool cardigan thin enough for our hot Singapore's weather for $10.
Indeed a great place to shop with reasonable prices, great products, neat arrangement of merchandises and friendly and helpful staff.. Will come back again and will introduce my friends
Casually shopping around bugis village the other day after stopping by KFC for a quick yummilicious lunch, I passby this shop that made me walk in for a quick tour and I found some great bargains here.
Tightly stacked with a narrow walkway among portions and portions of basics such as t-shirts, blouse, shirts, polo shirts, pants, shorts, skirts, dresses hanged in top and bottom layers... I should say some of these clothings have got pretty good quality and I suspected them to be rejects, however, they looked pretty fine to me and the price is extremely economical. You can find all sorts of colours, materials, sizes and designs in non-conherent state, so its more or less a pick the one you think looked good and manage a good bargain kind of thing.
I managed to get:
White basic tee - $7 Various coloured razor backs - $5 - $7 Black Shorts- $7 Pencil Skirt - $10
T-Shirts for children - $3 - $7
I almost got: Really cool Sweater - $20 but i couldn't find a good fitting one.
So if you happen to be around that area, this is a good place to browse as I think they carry rejects and left-overs or odd sizes for a few australian and US brands.. I think i saw something that might be from GAP.... Its fun.... and basics are basics.... Should not pay a hefty price tag for a basic t-shirt or whatever
Was doing my weekend shopping while i came across these delightful snacks that come in the shape of fishes.
Yes fishes... or more like a giant fish made with savory Japanese pancake mix pregnant with delectable fillings. They do have many flavors to choose from like chocolate, green tea, red bean and Cheese.
After investigating with my keen eye.. I've decided on the Cheese Melt flavoured FISH... and I waited as I watched the lady pour the mixture into what looked like fish template pans... that could possible house 5 fishes on one side. While the mixture sizzle away... you could smell the wonderful aroma of the batter in the air... She later drop a few cubes of cheese into the almost formed fish shaped crust and covered the 2 sides so that the filling is wrapped tightly within.. After about 2 mins, my fish is ready to have...
The other helpful aunty actually asked me if I wanted my fish clean or with the crispy sides... I opted for the crispy sides and it looks like fins to me... The Fins were really crispy and nice and as I sink my teeth into the piping hot fish.. the smoking cheese filling oozes out! I should say this makes a great walk about snack...
Its healthy, low in salt and oil, extremely delicious, easy to munch on and is not messy. I would definitely try it again as it simply taste sooo good.... Maybe another flavour next time :)
Perfect Cafe to hang out with friends. Situated in the middle of nowhere, right in front of the entrance to ISETAN, this cafe serves one of the best baked seafood chowder I've ever eaten.
A Korean chain that serves french deli and cafe all day main courses dressed in a Blue NEON signboard and plush leather chairs studded with diamonds. One cannot but be enthralled by the scent of freshly baked bread and cute tiny milk bottles of flavored puddings. The interior deco resembles a posh classique cafe and the neatly dressed chef looking stuffs are friendly and quick to take your orders. Though you have to chop (reserve) your own seats, its completely free seating which is quite a downside for me as its always so packed with people, the staff are quick to pack up the left overs from the previous user for you. Be sure to also pop into the queue for all the savoury baked products you would like to order and for beverages, you also order from the same queue at the cashiers.
They have 3 places where you can order food. First at the milk pudding sector, then at the bakery cashier and another cashier is situated behind where the cold salad and delectable healthy looking sandwiches resides. You may also order hot main courses at this counter.
Baked Seafood Chowder: I simply love this on a bread, the soup is extremely tasty and creamy and you also get a full sized prawn. Though the bread is a little hard, I love to scrap the inside of the bread that is infused with the soup.. YOU MUST TRY THIS (5/5)
Korea's Power Garlic: This is a full sized baguette that is infused with garlic baked till crispy and soft on the inside. It goes will with anything, soup, on its own... The best Garlic Baguette I've ever tried (5/5)
Royal Pudding: This tasted a little Penna Cotta, I had the original flavor and loved the soft texture. The little bottles with cover that came with it is extremely lovely. Its not too sweet, just the right balance of milk and hint of caramel. (4/5)
Layered Cake: This resembles the milli cake that is Ow-So-Famous, however I find it not exceptionally delectable. The layers of crepe and cream is light and yummy. The cake is not as heavy as some other may thought and I could taste the cream and crepe properly balanced. (3/5)
I still find it a little more pricey though the setting as a cafe and location could justify for the price however the FIND YOUR OWN SEAT makes me kinda feel i'm in coffee bean or starbucks. The beverages are also priced a little high I feel but the food is delicious!
Since it is double yebber dollars month, then I would try to relive my memories of cathay pacific flights. I took CX Flights to HongKong, Japan and Taiwan before and most of the CX flights from Singapore to other countries you have to transit in HongKong and boy the hongkong international airport is crowded. My last trip to taiwan on CX flight, we are actually delayed for about 45 mins hovering in the air atop the airport unable to land due to congestion of airspace. Upon landing we are being whisked off in a taxi way bus to the terminal while we are being whisked off again by running staffs so that we can catch the next transiting flight to taiwan. It was fun but could be stressful as we are about to miss our connecting flight.
I love CX flights because the flight schedule from SG to HK has many choices of preferred timings and you can also choose to visit HK before or after your destination of choice. The flight is pretty fairly priced if you book early and during promotions. Service is okay and the food served decent portion and quality. Not extremely nice but its still nice to have warm food onboard. Sometimes i find the prices cheaper then low cost flights... during some promotions.. Hard to imagine right. It minimal on flight service as compared to other airlines but as i say decently valued...
One thing i learnt after booking a few flights is that booking direct from the CX airline webpage is not necessarily the cheapest, you may consult other online flight booking systems such as misa travel or etc before making your booking to avoid disappointment of finding out its cheaper somewhere else.
My final verdict, Its value for money and good swift service just hate the congestion at the HK airport that mostly causes some delays.... Love to be ontime most of the time :)
If you are looking for some really good flight deals, then you should subscribe to tiger airway's newsletters... They do have some really good deals coming up. Can you imagine that, I've actually ever got $28 flights to malaysia and sometime ago $48 flight to phuket... Its cheap, service is pretty good and love the in-flight entertainment (the other low cost flight travellers).
Though its low-cost travelling, you could also make yourself more pampered by the few upgrade options available.
1) Opt for check-in luggage: In this way you need not hurl your overly sized luggage up the flight (be it walkway or a staircase). Trying to put an overly huge cabin luggage in the overhead cabin compartment is a tedious thing. Besides having to watch the other commuters angry faces for hitting them while you try to carry your luggage overhead, also face the angry fumes of your neighbours for taking too much space or squashing their cabin luggages.
2)Order in advance your on-flight meals or purchase on flight meals to avoid strange looks given when you bring your home-packed sandwich out to eat. Or having to secretly consume your packed of prepacked home baked nuts. I mean on tiger, i've ever seen one guy took out his bak guar (pork jerkies) to eat.... and the air-crew giving the other crew a funny look while exclaiming : WAH! BAK GUAR leh!
3) Upgrade to a premium seat near the emergency exit is great for tiger flights as you really do get some good leg space.... even if somebody near the window needs to go.... You just simply shift your leg a little.. Thats pretty convenient...
4) Purchase the Board ME First option to fly past the queues of eager boarding guest that is snaking in the queue way before time. Though the waiting area is usually well ventilated with plenty of space, because its low-cost, people tends to want to board quickly to make sure they get their cabin luggage space.
5) Bring along your ipods, ipads and entertainment.. As it does get a little noisy from excited passengers and the staff will do nothing to keep the noise down.. so to have a more pleasant journey.. PLUG IT IN!
6) Always choose a seat near the toilet if not near the entrance. Because on small flights there is only 2 loos and on a longer distance flights you might get 6... but the toilets are pathetic so drink more water before boarding.. make sure you dry yourself before you get on and only start drinking nearing the end of the flight so that you can use the loos at the airport itself. I personally find the cabin toilets on the tiger flight pretty ill-kept, ill-stocked and not a very pleasant experience.
For good and cheap flights, tiger is the way to fly.. If its gonna be just an hour or two.. why not take the economical way to fly :)
