Pontian wanton noodles is one of the best i had in singapore. It taste similar to the ones i like in KL. It is good because:
Firstly the char siew is of a good texture, not too hard or soft and the skin of the charsiew is mirinated with a good mixture of spices on a good source of fresh pork. The selection of choice meat is one that is lean with 30% of fats to keep the meat moist.
Secondly the noodles are cooked in such a way that it is chewy to bite yet not soggy. It is must be QQ to bite yet not too hard to swallow. The sauce is one that is of a good mixture of dark soya sauce with other type so sauces. It must be black with a little charred taste yet not too salty.
Third, the wanton must be one that contained just enough filling. The skin must be thin and smooth and the fillings marinated to perfection...
Pontian wanton noodles possesses all these criterias and it is hard to come by such a good stall.

It was another rainy weekday afternoon and I had just emerged victorious from another massive jam on the Sheares Bridge. I suddenly have cravings for hot lce Lemon Tea.
So....... Kampong Glam Cafe... here i come.......
Parking is a breeze, thats if you have a real good luck, but because it was rainy, I found a good lot nearby the cafe almost immediately. Usually that place is cramp during lunch hours as the white collars working in offices nearby will charge at that store for their Lunch Kills....
It was a good rainy afternoon indeed. When i reached there, most of the food are still available. Immediately i ordered... Chilli Fish, Fried Chicken Wings, Some Dao Guar Long bean in chilli, tahu goreng, potato patty, curry chicken and rice. I am not a spicy eater... actually matter of fact i take Ketchup with everything.... As i always think that my lips will swell when i take spicy food. Curry to me is never a spicy food. I love especially the exotic taste of their curry and the chilli fish is so tasty. It is not too hot really and my lips didn't swell... The dishes were prepared with fresh ingredients and generous amounts of spices. You must drizzle more curry sauce on your rice as it is very very yummy... The FRIED CHICKEN was crispy on the outside and Very JUICY on the INSIDE.. I love the skin best, as it is well miranated but not too salty or oily.
Besides Rice dishes, noodle dishes, GADO GADO and Etc... They also have creative beverages. The hot ice lemon tea is wonderful to have after meals or even before. The fabulous aroma of the good grade tea leaves with a squash of lime could really relieve bloated stomach and helps in PERKING you up. The other beverage I like is Teh with Ginger. I love the smooth taste of the tea with a tinge of ginger that helps to cool the throat and soothe my stomach.
THey have traditional cakes, Kuehs and snacks served at the cheery transparent show box. They are nice, moist and soft with rich flavours of coconut, gula melaka and tapioca... There are various varieties available to go with the beverages....
If you are feeling bored and you are living in the west or south western area, you can always pop by holland village. It is a more happening place for the westies.... thats if you do not want to drop by town as there are not much choices besides great world city or VIVO city which is already nearby town.
There are many cafes, restaurants and food joints in holland village but the one i loved most is TCC. Perhaps its because of the good experience i had with the other branches of TCCs in town that i would naturally choose to go into TCC.
I like this joint partly because of the comfy seats. They have these especially elevated sits that give me privacy and much comfort. I used to laze my afternoons there after classes while i was in UNI.
I personally love the wedges with spicy cheese dip for snack. They come in pretty huge portions and remains delicious even when it turns cold. Generous cheese dips is great for a cheesy me..... I once gathered with my classmates there playing uno stacko and we could squeeze all 8 of us in one table. I also love the wonderful sandwiches they serve especially the one with slices of beef.
It comes with delicious PAPADAM crackers and yummy side veg with sweet wine vinegratte sauce. The portion is quite generous and it is definitely YUMMY....
Really a must go HANG OUT place......
Usually they are open till wee hours of the morning on eve of weekends and eve of holidays. If you like a good healthy mid night snack, you might want to drop by TCC. Or perhaps hangout with your friends for a good chat when you don't feel like hitting the pillows early.

I am always amazed by the new creations like the NUTELLO... which is a shot of expresso with nutella smeared all over this nice oval short glass... Its drives you NUTS.... with its nutty taste and mind you.. this innocent looking beverage is simply delectable. IF you are a chocolate lover, this is the one drink for you. It combines the beautiful smooth nutella chocolate spread with potent expresso... The provide a small spoon for you to nibble and scrape the chocolate. Really fun and unique.
Bursting flavours from two ends of the world. Your taste buds will be so amazed by the bitterness of the premium coffee and the sweet sweet chocolate spread.
If you like paus, you must try this humble looking stall....
They make their dim sum on the spot, with fresh ingredients. I was attracted by the fact that a small stall can house so a mini dim sum production team... The prices were really reasonable and the paus were delicious...
I tried the char siew pau. and it was bursting with flavour. The thin, soft and chewy pau skin with generous fillings is a must have for breakfast. Very very nice...
When i sink my mouth into one of the char siew paus immediately i could feel the skin melting into my mouth and the flavours of the char siew fillings waking my tastebuds. It is saucy yet not too wet and the texture is a little chewy and chunky... Very very delicious.
Next i must mention is the red bean pau. The filling so smooth and generous... Oh.. very very nice.. Thin and soft skin unlike those in which you finish 80% of the pau then you find a tiny bit of dao sao. THis one is filled with red bean at least 70%. Red bean paste so SMOOTH, just right in sweetness, SOFT and Slightly Wet is just right for all RED BEAN BUN FANS out there....
The other dim sums were very very nice as well.... You MUST TRY THEM.... Really DELECTABLE.........
Nicely tucked away from the vibrant Thomson Road is this humble looking building undermining the glamourous treasures it possesses.
There are a couple of famous stalls there at this 1 level hawker food centre... Perhaps a regular haunt for food lovers. The basement is a market and upper levels are sheltered parking. How convenient yar...

Stewed Duck Rice.. Simply delicious. This franchise has branches all over Singapore and the one that i frequent is at Liang Seah Street.
Char Kway Teow... Nice, generous plate of this singaporean favourite with fresh cockles deliciously stir fried till perfection. Got to wait, so if you want a taste of this fabulous local delicacy, have patience. Try also their freshly made Orr Tah.... A dollar a piece but its value for money. Very yummy.....
Next to the char kway teow stall is a Pau store. Freshly made paus with delicious fillings that is ozzing with flavourful sauce when you sink your teeth into them. Really really good and fresh. Can buy more for supper and breakfast.
Poh Piah.. This uncle's poh piah is simply the best. Healthy serving of fresh veg and nice crunchy stuffs he put inside. Juicy Crunchy appetizer.
Prawn noodles Soup or Dry...... Really good. huge prawns and soup so sweet you will leave a truly empty bowl.
Our all time king of the queue.... Muffins. This muffin stall trains our patients featuring a good variety of high quality YUMMY muffins at value for money prices. I personally recommend the double chocolate and my dad loves the cheese one. He can eat 6 of these muffins for tea break.... thats with LUNCH before and DINNER afterwards....
You can NEVER MISS IT.... The AROMA is to DIE FOR........

Well I have...... and i hear it all the time. That is so because people around me like my mama, papa and etc etc etc. loves it. This traditional pastry brings alot of good childhood memories for them and for me......... i just want to gobble them up, less the calories of course.
And so, the story goes....
On a faithful weekday afternoon, I was out 'eating snake' and because it was cool after the cats and dogs have all fallen, i wound down my windows while driving leisurely at balestier road heading towards the PIE.
While making sure I do not kiss the butt of the car in front of me and checking out the other cute drivers, something TINGLED my senses.... It was a familiar yet surprising aroma. It was that nice buttery aroma that reminded me I WAS ON BALESTIER ROAD.... Subsequently i saw a banner box written on it " TAU SAR PIAH" so immediately i tarik the car into the carpark next to it, just when i was about to miss the opening and drive into the shop.
The aroma itself is enough to convince you how SHIOK it will be to sink your teeth into these pastries... I approached the shop with much apprehension... I was afraid i had to queue but i was in pretty good luck because NO MORE QUEUE. So happily i started browsing through the various items they have.
I had to say.. the shop was neat and clean with a welcoming ambience. There were various flavours of tau sar piahs and even other pastries like chicken pie, apple pie, char siew pau, flavoured Breads, cookies and my favourite Kueh Boo LOO...
Then i realise some flavours are out of stock so i asked the lady and she said gently SOLD OUT... GOT TO WAIT IF YOU WANT MORE... Uh HUH.. thats why no queue anymore lor... So i just chose those that were left quickly.. before somebody else buys them.
I chose some tau sar piahs of assorted flavours, other pastries and a bag of Kueh Boo LOO and brought it home, hoping to curry favour my daddy, mummy and etc etc etc... These warm UFO looking pastries are very powerful... Even more powerful then my Double Dose of ambi pur... making me hungry all the way home...
I truely understand what it means by BAKED TILL PERFECTION when i saw the pastries.
Nicely shaped, freshly baked, salivating aroma, flaking buttery skin that melts right away in your mouth, leaving crust at the edges of your lips for other to oogle at....
I am truly considering joining them as a QC inspector......
Oh.. not to forget the generous fillings which are full of flavour and just right in sweetness. These little treasures are of such a size that one is definitely not enough, two is perhaps just right, three is when i'm not too hungry, four is a blessing.. but more is what i need.
My daddy loves the durian flavoured piah. He commented he never tried such special flavour of tau sar piah and the flavour is so strong but yet not as sweet as the traditional durian Kueh, and had all 3 of them leaving NONE for me.
Mum loves the Black Sasame piah. She says its of good nuitrition, helps produces more black hair and it was unique in every delicious way.
Etc Etc Etc prefers the nice, thick, smooth lotus seed and traditional red bean piahs. It brings back much mid autumn festival emotions that they started to play with sparkles.
I love the traditional salty and sweet tau sar piahs. They fillings are smooth and generous. Most importantly it does not stick to your teeth like most grinded tau sar. It simply melts in your mouth... And the Apple Pie. i bought it because its HUGE, bigger then my PALM.. looked Soooo CUte.....
The chicken pie was also soooo good.... Flaky crust with chunky filling so chicken cubes, some veg with delicious sauce.. The pastry is not thick at all but yet it can hold much sauce inside.
HUMBLE PIE BURSTING WITH FLAVOUR......
The curry puff, not for the faint hearted or weak stomachs. It is spicy... very very suitable for those who love the excitement of RED HOT CHILLI. THe fillings look innocent with hardly any signs of chilli. But it is SPICY.... Fills your tastebuds with that exotic explosion of spice and flavour. Guarantee your nostrils smoking.... It is definitely a MUST TRY...
Not forgetting the Kueh Boo Loos. I kept them for breakfast and they are still crunchy.... yet soft and nice on the inside. Goes so well with my pipping hot Coffee O....

I'll definitely avoid going to this branch of Boon Tong Kee's again. Before we even stepped in, one of their waitress bumped into my friend with a dish on her hands. Instead of apologising, she gave him an annoyed look.
What happened to customers always being right?
And when we were trying to order food, the waiters and waitresses all seem to only have a 10-degrees viewing angle. All of them just can't seem to see the 7 of us frantically waving our hands at them to take our orders.
The food was not that fantastic either. The taste wasn't exceptional, and the food looks badly laid out. And being Boon Tong Kee, the price is on the high side too.
Fatty Weng is definitely one of the best "zhi cha" I've tasted! I've been visiting them every now and then for about 7 years and the food still tastes as good as ever.
Unlike most "zhi cha" places, you get to dine in an air-conditioned place, which is a huge plus. Service is fast and friendly too.
As for the price, I wouldn't say it's value for money though. A dinner for two cost me $30 . It's not surprising though, as there seem to be a lot of caucasian diners here.
I too tried their XXXL Chicken Cutlet. It tastes pretty good, but it is really oily! Just looking at them preparing it makes you feel really guilty for eating such unhealthy food.
At $3 a pop, it is not exactly cheap too. I guess it's good if you got a friend to share the serving with.

The food was not that fantastic either. The taste wasn't exceptional, and the food looks badly laid out. And being Boon Tong Kee, the price is on the high side too.

Fatty Weng is definitely one of the best "zhi cha" I've tasted! I've been visiting them every now and then for about 7 years and the food still tastes as good as ever.
Unlike most "zhi cha" places, you get to dine in an air-conditioned place, which is a huge plus. Service is fast and friendly too.
As for the price, I wouldn't say it's value for money though. A dinner for two cost me $30 . It's not surprising though, as there seem to be a lot of caucasian diners here.
Overall, a must-try!

I too tried their XXXL Chicken Cutlet. It tastes pretty good, but it is really oily! Just looking at them preparing it makes you feel really guilty for eating such unhealthy food.
At $3 a pop, it is not exactly cheap too. I guess it's good if you got a friend to share the serving with.
