There are really only a few names that come to mind when craving Peranakan food, and Ivins is one of them. This premier purveyor of Peranakan cuisine has been doling out authentic nonya cuisine since the 70s. The food is fuss-free, homestyle and prices are very easy on the wallet.
1) Babi Pongteh ($8.90), stewed pork belly in a rich brown soy bean gravy. MUST-TRY. The pork belly was tender, juicy, and laced with a guilty layer of fat.
2) Nyonya Chap Chye ($6.50), stewed mixed vegetables in a soy bean gravy. This was nuanced, delicate and subtle in flavour.
3) Sayur Lodeh ($6), chopped cabbage, long beans and julienned carrots stewed in a coconut and turmeric curry gravy. This was fiery and delightful.
4) Ayam Rendang ($8.90), chicken stewed with a viscious coconut gravy. The chicken was incredibly tender and juicy
5) Ayam Curry ($8.90) traditional nyonya chicken curry. Compared to the rest of the dishes, this was really very ordinary fare 6) Chendol ($2.50), this was refreshing, sweet and balanced

Aburiya marinates their meats in a variety of flavours, I especially liked the Tare, traditional yakiniku sauce, a sweetish soy-based sauce. I chose most of the meats to be served with the Tare marinade.
ALL the meats were decadently succulent, mouth-wateringly juicy, addictively aromatic, melt-in-your-mouth tender, headily robust and blazingly flavoured. 1) Wagyu Ribeye ($25.50), my favourite cut because it has the best flavour, marinated in Tare
2) Wagyu Jo Karubi ($17.90), wagyu prime short rib, marinated in Tare sauce.
3) Jo Karubi ($12.90), beef prime short rib, also marinated in Tare
4) Karubi ($7.90), beef short ribs in Tare marinade.
5) Kurobuta Karubi ($9.90), pork belly marinated in Hot Miso (spicy miso).
6) Chicken, Tori ($7.90), one portion in Tare marinade and the other in the Wasamayo marinade (wasabi-mayonnaise).
7) seafood, Hotate ($10.90), scallops, and Ebi ($12.90) prawns, both in a luscious butter sauce.
8) Sausages, the Cheese Cracker ($7.90) pork, beef and cheese sausages.
9) The Horenso Salad ($10.90), a spinach salad with refreshing cucumber, onions and tossed with crispy garlic slices and (little) bits of bacon, complete with a topping of sesame sprinkles. This is my absolute favourite salad of all. 10) Portobello mushrooms ($6.90) in butter.Yummy.

The bad thing about this location is that it's way too warm. We always end up perspiring through our dinner. The management really should do something about the air-conditioning, if there is any at all.
1) Fisherman's Basket ($26), consisting of battered prawns, dory fish and scallops. We switched the chips with mashed potatoes. They remembered to put salt on their seafood. I loved the succulent and sweet scallops.
2) Grilled Cod ($28): This is probably the best main dish on the menu.
This was the location for one of our LA Dinner and Drinks.
1) Brewed Beers: Very fresh and good. Must try.
2) Fisherman's Basket ($26), battered scallops, prawns, dory fish served with tartar sauce, mesclun greens and chips. They forgot to put salt on the seafood.
3) Crispy Blueswimmer Crabcake on Mango and Waterchestnut Salsa ($16): lackluster. It reminded me of a fishcake.
4) Spinach Ravioli with Gorgonzola with Cream Sauce and Parmesan Shavings ($16): ho-hum affair
5) Hickory-Smoked BBQ Baby Back Ribs in Beer Marinade ($28) was nicely smoked, but wasn't tender enough.
6) Crispy Duck Confit Leg with Parmesan Potatoes and Fine French Beans ($28) was one of the better dishes, it was richly flavoured and moist.
7) Self-Saucing Chocolate Pudding with Vanilla Ice-Cream ($10): absolute MUST TRY.

We tried the ala carte buffet, but that was a mistake, the food wasn't great at all. Just go for the ala carte menu instead. The dishes looked better.
1) Bad: Ayam soto, Sayur Lodeh, Tahu Telor, pineapple rice
2) Okay: Satay Madura, Beef rendang, pad thai
3) Good: Tom yum seafood soup, Thai fish cakes, crispy fish filets, green curry, kailan

3) Portobello Burger ($14): delectable vegetarian burger option
4) Peri Peri Spring Chicken ($16): The chicken was moist, but we weren't huge fans of the peri peri seasoning.
5) Pork Belly ($23): The fatty pork was meltingly good.
6) Grilled King Prawns ($25): an Indian twist to the contemporary Australian dish. The concoction of spices weren't really my thing though.
7) Seared Sea Scallops ($18): The scallops were appropriately succulent and sweet, but the dish was unmemorable.
8) Ribeye Steak ($32): The steak was very American-style, full-bodied and robustly beefy. This was decent but also unspectacular.
9) Self-Saucing Chocolate Pudding ($10). This really is the ultimate decadent dessert.
