It was a rainy friday afternoon and I was nearby Clark Quay after a meeting when I passed by Freshness Burger Fast Food Joint. So I've decided to pop in and try this new fast food restaurant.
As i entered the restaurant, a whiff of grilled beef patties hit me and my stomach started to growled uncontrollably. I cannot say its a big joint as i think at one time, the entire place could most likely be able to hold 30~40 consumers. Finding a nice seat is not difficult though made troublesome by space occupying students trying to study in such a noisy environment. Though seating the large glass panels is appealing, i've decided to choose a more comfy seat by the side sofa.
There is many choices of burgers to choose from, as many as 10 varieties of hamburgers, as well as vegetarian burgers... but i ended up choosing a classic beef patty burger. I also ordered some sides such as the french fries and mashed potato as well as a nice pineapple soda...
They do have an island of condiments and sauces in which the variety intrigues me. Theres the standard, mustard, chilli, ketchup as well as the peppers, tobascos and other spice kickers... for you to freely drizzle on your food.
The burger tasted nice, as the tangy sauce fused extremely well with the juicy beef patty and crunchy lettuce. Its a simple burger but I should say the quality is pretty good. I especially have to mention the mashed potato with beef sauce... Its really really yummy.... I'm actually surprised how they could get the sauce to coat every layer of the mashed potato.. Usually the sauce will be drizzled from the top but its not so for this.. As i scoop downwards, there is sauce at every layer.. how amazing.... The pineapple soda was also refreshing and of the right sweetness...
Price wise.. I should say it is slightly higher than are normal fast food pricing, however the quality is good. Oh yar.. my set meal also included a free skewer with 2 balls of Japanese donuts which is quite a delight for me.
Service is pretty zero. No cheerful HIsss or Good Byes.... and usually they are all gathering in the kitchen. I had to stand at the counter for sometime before somebody notices... Perhaps they are all trying to perfect the food... But its great food no doubt...
I would also love to try their waffles breakfast and the other type of burgers.... Will be BACK for more :)
Sports Lovers will know what is trending at NIKE Sports outlet. Always carrying the latest fashionable sport wear and functional sports accessories made from high technology processed materials and state of the art stitching techniques. While I shop at Bugis, I must at least pop by the second level of the shopping mall. Here you can find many sports and casual wear shops as well as watersports shop and skin/body care outlets.
This Nike Store is not really big but the staffs are helpful. Like all Nike stores, it is not cluttered up and there is ample space to browse and not elbow other shoppers. They carry a good range of the newest NIKE products, one section for the shoes and another for tops and bottoms. Though you can never find a really good discount as NIKE items are usually controlled priced, you might get to surprise yourself. I ever bought a really nice washable sports cap, very functional and easy to care for 40% off from the caps shelf....
So, if you are passing by the NIKE Shop in Bugis, just jump in and browse... You never know what surprises you can find... Though they do not have HUGE RELOCATION SALEs signs ON 'ALL THE TIME'.... or even big sale slogans like 50% or 70% off..... - This is totally not NIKE's Style to slash prices... but you will be surprised at some good silent offers....
I was shocked and disappointed. I left the shop feeling cheated...
I participated in the Bausch Lomb HD (Free Trial) for their Dailies HD Lenses via an Ad to their webpage: http://www.bauschandlombdaily.com.sg/ During registration, I was asked to choose a location, in which this Capitol outlet at Anchorpoint is the nearest for the collection of 5 pairs of free HD Dailies Contact Lenses. After registration, I received an sms on my mobile on the location i've chosen and to call to make an appointment before I go.
I called the outlet and appointments can only be made for weekdays as according to the lady, weekends are busy so no appointments on weekends. But i've been to Anchorpoint on weekends... Though there is shoppers, but its hardly crowded and Capitol is almost always not busy. So, i've got no choice but to make an appointment on a working day near to my lunch hour.
I reached the shop slightly later then my appointment time and was told that I've got to do an eye test and health test???? Further conversation lead to if I have a pair of spectacles and I was told how we should wear spectacles more and avoid contact lenses. All the while, the so called optician was not around and I was told she went out awhile. I mean whats the use of having an appointment when the in-house optician is supposedly late. 20 minutes after my appointment time, the optician appeared with a SLOW STROLL and nonchalant look (like she just went window shopping) and I was asked to go into a room behind for eye checking. I asked if i needed to remove my contact lenses and they said no need for that as they can check on top of my lenses. I find that particularly weird as my experience with other optical shop requires me to remove my lenses and allow my eye to rest for at least 10 mins. So, I did an eye test with my contact lenses on and an eye examination with my contact lenses on.
After the examination I was then showed outside and a poster on different eye diseases. I was told I had a mild symptom of some blood vessels around the eye and was told that I should stay off my contact lenses for 2 months. Wear spectacles and then i was then asked if I have spectacles if not i HAVE TO MAKE ONE. After a moment of silent she then carry on to say.. SORRY WE CANNOT GIVE YOU THE CONTACT LENSES. I was embarrassed not because I was not given the lenses but the whole experience is traumatizing.
Here I am taking my lunch time to rush down to the location on a working day and after much waiting, did an inaccurate eye examination WITH MY CONTACT LENSES ON and was told a scary news of a mild case of blood vessels around my eye which I could only further derive from the other pictures and the optician didn't say anything of what might caused it and she only said this ONE THING... THIS IS CAUSED BY YOUR CONTACT LENS WEARING in which I deemed inaccurate because 16 years of contact lens wearing and my eyes have no problems, no feeling of strains or other slight symptoms of discomfort. There was no further elaboration or any kind of report given on my eyesight test whether if my power increased or decreased and all was said was your eyes are not healthy and you need to rest it with spectacles for 2 months, DO YOU HAVE ONE If not YOU HAVE TO MAKE ONE. Well its an eye examination and consultation, then give me advises on what caused it, how to prevent, or if there are any other things that could help. NONE... and she carried on to embarrass me by telling me that we cannot give you the lenses with that (You're so cheap you want free gift and i'm not giving it to you) attitude, on top of my rejection, I felt a slight feeling of being coerced into making a pair of spectacles with them, in which is way TOO EXPENSIVE as compared to the many other optical shops in Queensway Shopping Mall and the shops opposite queensway shopping mall. I've ever made spectacles in queensway shopping mall and the service attitude is great, there are many shops and designs to choose from, price is very economical, quality is good, fast (you can pick up the same day sometimes) and you feel like its money well spent...
So I left the shop, both embarrassed and puzzled... Feeling like i'm a cheap, kaisu Singaporean who needs the free pairs of daily lenses. Its the kind of feeling when you got scammed and the aftermaths of regretting that you made it for the appointment in which I would have conveniently forgot and quit making way to Anchorpoint which is neither near a MRT Station or in Town.
To sum up, the service was bad, attitude is somewhat STUCKUP, hoping to get more spectacle sales then contact lenses... oh yar of course.. you get more profit from spectacle sales... If you do not honor your word, then why should i trust you in making me a pair of trusty spectacle.
Even if you advise not to wear more spectacles, you could still ask me to come back for a re-examination or even to honor your word and advise me not to wear them till my eyes are rested... NONE OF THESE... JUST IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE A PAIR OF SPECTACLES please SCOOT OUT OF MY SHOP kinda attitude...
Well, this also affected my impression of Bausch Lomb products, I mean it is your responsibility to work with your dealers to honor the promotions or marketing that you do. I mean if they do not honor them then how do you expect the users to trust your products? If your free gift is subjected to eye health tests and only be given to healthy eye users, then put that in your conditions or make it known to the participants... I'm disappointed...
A new CottonOn MEGA Stored opened at the old location of the PAGEONE book store. Though I loved pageone, but I love cotton on even more... Be greated by the beautiful array of fashions must haves littered all over the place. Bright litted up in a cool white hue of fluorescent light, this mega store not only provides the casual everyday fashion knick knacts, they also provide really nice accessories to turn your casual wear to a smart casual one.
Theres this new section that I love called TYPO.... CottonOn also launched a section on stationaries, notebooks and other students must haves... Who says studying cannot be fashionable. With the brightly coloured beautifully wrapped and designed notebooks, who dare says a student is not a fashionista.
I also love the cotton on BODY section. I particularly like the PJs they offer.. mostly thin and silky and priced really reasonably... I mean sometimes i really do find sleeping wear to expensive... You know sometimes i rather sleep with my $50 bill buttnaked... then wearing that tiny PJ that cost me a BOMB!!! The soft and fluffy HOOD PLUSH GOWNS with pastel colours are really a hit for me. I love them as they make excellent after shower wear and after you emerge from the swimming pool wear.... They are soft, water absorbing and easy to handle.
You can also find economical and well designed sports wear, yoga wear or stretchy pants here. Be sure the price is reasonable but you could also view the sales items. I personally find the sales very attractive on top of that, they look good feel good, though not the upmarket fashion products, they are good for everyday wear and if you happen to tear them, you won't feel your heart ripped apart.. Thats for sure.... So if you happen to rip some of your clothes intentionally or unintentionally, that just gives you more reason to shop and buy somemore :)
Be sure to head down to this MEGA Store and I'm sure there is something for everyone and most importantly, its super economical and value for money :)
A pizza lover introduced me to Domino's last week and it was a good surprise.
With the sudden influx of pizza restaurants and franchises coupled by the ever booming colourful and confusing set meals promotion leaflets and brochures, it sure takes a long time to decide what to order and what taste good. I mean if you want good old regular tasting pizza you go to the Pizza Hut, if you want 2 For 1, always go canadian and if you want the premium ones, you can always go to california kitchen or other up-market pizza restaurants. See.. isn't it confusing... Such a simple delectable dish with a variety of flavors as many as the amount of toppings, cheeses, sauce and herbs could deliver such a great array of tantalizing dining experience for the young and old at anytime of the day. But after I've tried Domino's I think I will give the other franchises a miss, because i find Domino's the most value for my CALORIES.... and I can't help but crave for it the very next day after i had it... Thats pretty unlike me... :)
I was surprised by the location of the outlet. It is tucked away neatly within Jurong Green community club, at a humble corner near to the open air carpark. Clean and Full length mirrors allow the natural lighting and the green to flow into the dining area. Its not a big place, somewhat 5-7 tables that can hold approximately 20 people. The entire setting is like a take away place however, if you would choose to dine in, there are seats available. I love the ordering process, though there are many value and set menus to order, the service person kindly introduce the best offer for that hour and to the number of pax.
What i love best is that there is a screen that tracks the progress of the food you ordered. Immediately after ordering, you will see your name appear and it says BEING MADE.... then a few minutes later it says IN THE OVER... Its really helpful and surely calms the buyer as sometimes we wait and we wait for our merchandise and it gets on our nerves.. At least for now, we know whats going on and that helps us calm ourselves down better.
The pizza tasted great, the size was good, crust was fluffy and crispy *slurp* and the toppings are sufficient. Cheese is cheesy and they provided serviettes as well as paper cups for our drinks. Oh yar! They serve in a take-away format, so if you can't finish what you ordered, its easy to take away. We also ordered garlic cheese onion rings and drumlets which tasted superb as well. Though I don't really fancy the onion rings as i prefer them more crispy however, my pizza lover friend loved its well seasoned savory taste. The chicken drumlets were superb as well, perfectly seasoned with a balanced taste and chicken tender yet juicy.
I will definitely go back for more of the pizza as it is really yummy and the prices are great. They have also very economical offers which is a great encouragement for me patronage. Home delivery, take away or have it there... ALL WORKS FOR ME :) Oh yar.. no extra charge for delivery :))
Your One Stop to all the good and reliable brands of imported Skin Care, Beauty, Fragrance, Cosmetics and Body Care products all under one roof. Find brands such as MAC, Clinique, SKII, Burts Bees, Crabtree & Evelyn and many other more farmiliar brands of products here. Prices is not so much different from elsewhere however, I love the fact that its all under one roof.
If you would like help, then the friendly, always smiling shop assistant is there, but if you prefer quiet browsing, you may do so also. I love to browse by myself, try out whatever I would love to try out without somebody bothering me and this is the kind of place I like. However if you would like to try on something professionally, they have trial zones set up almost everywhere for the professional shop assistant to introduce you the products with a pro demonstration on you. They too have proper makeup removals and cottons / tissues/ wipes for you to use. Service is generally good and the store is brightly lit with plenty of neatly arranged products in spacious shelves.
Usually the crowded part of the shop will be at the housebrand cosmetics. I find them priced economically and the sizes of the blushes / eye make-ups and lipsticks are great and value for money. Quality is good and they have a great array of colours to choose from. Nail polishes are also displayed in a great range of colours, finishes and with or without the SPARKLEs....
Besides the housebrand cosmetics, also check out the SEPHORA branded skincare. I love the spray on toning water as its gentle and works well with my skin. The body care also comes in various flavors, colours and attractive bottling. My favourite had to be the chocolate shower gel and body lotion.... Also find interesting products such as the bath bombs and I must say the hand sanitizer smells superbs, feels so cooling and dry.... is a good sanitizer to have. So if you pass by a Sephora, just walked in and check out the fun and interesting stuffs.
If you are looking for that pair of cool headphones, be sure to drop by Stereo Electronics. They have the largest range of Headphones and Earphones for sale and for trial. The brands they carry includes the very common like Sony, Shure, skullcandy, marshall, as well as the very hard to find BeyerDynamic, Grado and other very rare brands.
I am impressed by the layout of the entire shop as most of the shops that i go to are either looked terribly untouchable aka super attas or super down to earth and messy whereby, you can't really find the stuff you want unless you ask. They have most of the stuffs on display with clear indication of price and model as well as some description. Sort by brands and types, at one glance, you could easily find the section of the item you need and compare the prices of the various products from various brands you are interested to buy.
I found the pair of headphone i wanted to buy and I was offered to try out the chosen one at the trial counter. They provide an ipod for me to test and the entire service and experience is really good, friendly and very pleasant for me. The sound is superb and I am all ready to buy, however I think as human we always think maybe it would be cheaper in Sim Lim Square or other out of town audio shops, however the friendly sales person indicated to me that they have a promotion and this item is going for a 20% discount if I were to 'LIKE' their facebook. This is a good deal and I realised that no shops elsewhere can beat the 20% discount price and so.... with a quick access at their MACBook, I am entitled to the 20% discount... Trust me.. i saved LOADS.... enough to buy myself a good hightea buffet somewhere posh....
It was a fabulous experience and SUPER GOOD DEAL... so for music lovers out there or even professionals sound people, this is the shop to go... and always check out their promos on their facebook.
Their online E-Shop via the home page is also a great indication of the items they carry as well as their prices. I find the at a great reference and makes things all the more simple for the perfect sound gadget i'm looking for.
Look Cool.. Feel Great... Get a pair of trendy headphones today!!!
Its my first time dining at Wendy's this morning and I was really surprised by the breakfast menu they offer. They have a few hearty choices for breakfast such as eggs with ham in bread and even this biscuits with jam clamp down kinda thing. I ordered a Panini sandwich with the ever nutritious Ice Milo and it only cost me less than $5. I particularly love the setting of this glass house restaurant. Situated in the less crowded part of the concourse area between Jurong Point 2 and the MRT Station, its like a Peace (NO WAR) Zone to me especially during evenings when commuters are rushing between dinner and home. There are some steps leading to the entrance and on the glass walls you get to see their signature posters of burgers with square patties... Its a pity i didn;t get to have lunch as the square patties look really interesting.
Besides the great view and the natural sunlight in this petite restaurants, it was fun watching busy people walking by while i sip my icy cold milo and enjoy my hearty sandwich. The sandwich is warm and crispy and I love the melted cheese on ham and egg. Its creamy and not too salty though i expect the Panini bread to be something more than slices of toasted white bread. I expected it to be with herbs and drizzled with olive oil which i think its not too much to ask for. The place is rather small with only about 4 dining tables for small groups of 2-4 people and about 10-15 high chair side seats. I also spotted some foreign workers sitting by the steps just outside the restaurant and if you are dressed in something short, i would suggest not to seat at the side counter.
It was a rather squeaky breakfast for me I must say as I was seated on this chair with worn out rubber stoppers and every time i move a little, the metal part of the legs of the chair will screech as it scratches the floor.. Though i simply love to be the intimidating ugly old witch whose fingernails could scratch the mirror with the same kind of impact, I too am irritated by the high pitch noise. It kinda reminds me like when my Stiletto heel's rubber part got stuck in the groove of the pavement and while i rip it out, the rubber part breaks and your stiletto heel is left with the nail that held the rubber in and you have no choice but to still continue to walk coolly in that pair of killer heels while slipping and making screeching noises. Its embarrassing yet funny!
Came here on a Sunday evening on a kind invitation to find the place sparsely populated - perhaps due to its relatively unknown location. Many people also would not have thought that a cafe existed inside a bookstore.
A pity, as the set up is really comfy, with plenty of window seats available so you can watch the hustle and bustle of Orchard without being stuck in it. Bright cheery decor added a vibrant feel to the place - perfect spot for chilling out and catching up, especially with those comfy chairs.
Unfortunately, the food was a hit and miss for me. I tried a number of dishes so I could give a more balanced reviews:
Cheesy beef pastrami ($10.50) - one of their hot sandwiches. I find the beef quite nice but there was too much cheese making the whole dish very salty. They also drizzled a sauce on top of the cheese which just killed it. Bread was toasted nicely though, and the accompanying greens were given a nice zest with vinaigrette.
Mushroom Macaroni and Cheese ($9) - This was very strange to us. The bowl was only half full and had the mac and cheese in a broth. Yes, broth. I couldnt figure out what it was - melted cheese could not have melted down that much. Servings of mushrooms were little too. A pity - it could have made it as the pasta and cheese (the normal melted ones) combi was actually quite nice.
Ultimate beef meatballs ($4) - This was a signature which you can choose to have it as a sandwich if you like. Its 3 meatballs for $4 but you also have the option of 7 pcs for $8.50. The meatballs were a larger size than expected and honestly quite nice but it came with the inside a little cold, which was a disappointment.
Baked potato wedges with mixed herbs ($7) - This was to me the best of the evening. Fat wedges with skin still on baked to a nice firmness and sprinkled with herbs like rosemary (I think?) etc.
Soup of the Day ($5) - served with breadsticks - we had mushroom soup and it was good and didnt taste like it came out if a can. Good effort for a simple cafe.
Cafe Latte ($6) - Came with a cute latte art but unfortunately there was too much milk with too little coffee and tasted bland. Iced Cafe Mocha Mint ($7) - Nothing to complain about according to my dining companion.
Signature Affogato ($6) - This was indeed nice! Cold ice cream thrown into hot expresso. Nothing to not like in my books!
Cakes - I also tried their Red Velvet cake and some mocha coffee cakes which were forgettable.
For a cafe with 2-3 staff, I salute them for having a expansive menu. But perhaps they can trim things down a little and focus on bringing the quality up a notch.
Service was alright with food not taking too long to be served. Prices were mostly reasonable too.
I would still come back of course, but perhaps just for drinks and chilling out.
I went on a Saturday afternoon and was glad to see the café not packed like the rest of the Orchard Road. The first impression of the place was nice and quiet. It is part of the book store so it does make sense to have a café there where people can read and relax over a cup of coffee. The decoration pretty much used books to decorate; you can see books on the wall and above the light bulbs. This should enable people to get into a reading mood fast.
Next to the food, since it is our first time there, we decided to go for the chef recommendations. Below was our order: Soup of the Day (Cream of Mushroom), Norwegian Smoked Salmon Sandwich Ultimate Beef Meatball Pasta, Cappuccino and Iced Lemon Tea.
Soup of the day (Cream of Mushroom): The accompanying bread was cold and hard. Personally I prefer them to be warm and soft. Although the soup was supposed to be cream of mushroom, but it tasted more of potato and celery soup to me. Nothing out of extraordinary.
Norwegian Smoked Salmon Sandwich: This came in a generous portion and looks good in presentation as well. One bite into it, it makes me want to eat more. The bread is warm and soft, with the thick smoked salmon slices, lettuce and mayo makes a prefect combination. I would recommend this to everyone.
Ultimate Beef Meatball Pasta: With such a name, I was disappointed when the dish was served, three small meatballs on a small serving of pasta. I do wish the meatballs do come in a larger portion since its name has Ultimate in it. The meatballs are a bit dry for my liking even thought they are quite flavorful. The sauce and pasta tasted like any normal pasta. Nothing wow about this dish.
Overall the food can be pretty much hit and miss, of course there are other mains and desserts which I have yet to taste. I might be back to try some other mains. However, I would remember this place if I need a quiet place to relax and read a book, with food and drink to accompany me through an afternoon. After all, where can you find such a peaceful place to read in Orchard Road.

This review is late, sorry!!
