there was this time i went to hmv to buy some CDs (anime and J-pop). when it was time to pay, i used my debit card but told the cashier i wanted to pay by Nets. The cashier started to nod his head non-stop and i thought he heard what i say, but apparently, he was not listening to me but to the music that was playing in the store. and then, he charged my purchase to Mastercard debit, not Nets like what I initially told him to. makes me furious!! ended up, i was so angry that i wrote "I said I wanted to pay by Nets!" on the charge slip instead of signing it. when he say it, he didn't even say anything, much less an apology. he just simply 'destroyed" the charge slip, reprint one again and asked me to sign beside the "x". arrgghhh! *Banana* him lar!! now, i only shop for my J-pop and anime CDs on CDJapan liao...
Note: The fact that people signed up for a debit cum NETS card have a purpose and that purpose is not to show off the Mastercard logo and pretend to be some rich snob kid. Imagine being stuck overseas and you're unable to withdraw cash from overseas ATM due to service charge. The only thing that cay save your day and a$$ would be the debit card you're holding.
the first time I stepped into page one at vivo, i expected it to be similar like kinokuniya. true that initially the staffs there were a litlle "snob", but then, if you go back there now, the "snob" ones are no longer working. perhaps they are under-staffed, but still, it's a real pleasure to have an available staff attend to you if you do managed to grab hold of one. of course, if you ask a staff about a certain genre of books in which he or she doesn't have much knowledge on, it's quite frustrating. the good part is that, lately, the staffs are more than willing to go out of their counters to get your books for you liao. when i first did a book enquiry about a particular title which they didn't bring in, the staff simply checked on their own system and seeing that they don't carry that title, they simply told me: "sorry, we don't carry this title." but now, if you're looking for a title in which they happen not to carry, they actually suggest to you that you could place an order with no additional charge at all. and back to the topic about snobbish-ness, i personally think kino is gearing towards snobbish, blur and bo-chap lor...
My first trip back in Serangoon Gardens. I haven't been here for the last ten years. So many things have changed and many had remained. I found myself on the doorstep of this quaint little Italian restaurant. My friend and I were curious about it and decided that this would be our dinner place that Thursday evening.
Being a weekday evening, I guess it's perfectly understandable why it wasn't crowded. About 4-5 other tables were occupied while we were there. They have a seating area of about 40, including the two tables outside. They have soft warm lighting and earthy tones to create a cosy ambience. It has nice interior decor really.
The staff was warm and friendly. My friend came a little later than me. So the staff talked to me a bit, introducing the restaurant and telling me about the background of it,which was nice.
Food ordered: Funchi Triffolati al Moda Dello Chef - $12.90 Portobello Mushroom garnished with grilled bell peppers, sun dried tomatoes & olives with de Parma's house dressings. I love mushrooms and I'm so glad this dish didn't disappoint. I love the juiciness of the mushrooms as I bit down into it. In fact I loved it so much I was clearly happy to have more than my share. haha I also enjoyed eating it with the bell peppers.
Calzone (Folded Pizza) - $24.90 This Neapolitan speciality is filled with ham, bacon, onions, mushrooms, capsicums & smoked cheddar cheese. This folded pizza was pretty huge, so it sort of justified the price. Inside was filled with plenty of warm ingredients. It would have been more delicious if it were piping hot but then it would have been difficult to eat. So it's good as it is, just one gripe... the outer covering was a little too hard and we had to put quite a bit of effort into cutting it up. Good exercise.
Fileto Di Mento - $32.90 Air-flown, grain-fed beef tenderloin drizzled in red wine sauce & served with Portobello Mushrooms & sauteed vegetables. Let me say this for the record: I'm not a beef person. In fact I don't like beef, but only started eating it when I joined Yebber. Even so I only take one small slice to try each time. But this one? It was fantastic. Yummilicious! The meat wasn't tough and hard to chew. It was tender and the meat was well marinated. But the mushroom that came with it was visibly squashed and shrunken, though it still tasted nice with the sauce they had.
Chocolate Fondant Break the hard crust outside and the chocolate inside flows out nicely. A chocolate addict, I'd say this fondant is good! Not the best but certainly very good.
Tiramisu I think I was a tad biased when I had this Tiramisu. The last 4 Tiramisus I had simply didn't taste like Tiramisus... so when I had this one, I had the words "FINALLY...." going in my head. Nicely done with a tinge of liquor which my companion insisted didn't exist.
The total damage for two of us was $105. Good food, nice ambience, good service. It does seem a little ex but I think it was well worth it. TRY TRY TRY!
I had 2 lousy separate experiences at Mos Burger Taka and I urge readers to read my review to decide for yourself. The first involved this crew I had unluckily been served by. I placed my order and requested for less ice for my drink. And when the crew returned with my order, I noticed that my cup of coke was not filled to the brim. So I asked the crew why is this so and he replied smugly: "You say doe wan so much ice, so coke like that lor!" I was instantly taken aback, as he could have informed me that he was unable to top the drinks to the brim due to the less ice request. Not only wasn't there an apology, the crew gave me a "Take it or leave it!" expression. Not one to be bullied, I demanded my money back and told him he can keep his unfilled cup of coke for himself to drink.
The second incident involved a manager whom I was also unluckily served by. Initially, everything went well, I placed my order, he took my order, accept payment. But when it was time to gave me a number tag to wait, he didn't. I told him nicely that I don't have a number tag as he didn't give me one. In return and without listening to a word I said, he raised his voice at me and said: "Please hold on to your number tag and wait to be called once your order is ready!" Not to be outdone by his behaviour, I raised my voice at him and replied: "I wouldn't mind waiting, but you haven't even gave me a number tag when you raised your voice at me, a customer of this store!!" Embarassed, the manager just simply grabbed a number tag and swinged it across the counter towards me and walked off into the kitchen, most probably bitching about how "rude" I was. After an eternity of waiting (which I suppose must have been done on purpose as customers who came later than me actually got their food ealier than me instead.), my order was done and I simply paid him back for his service by swinging his number tag across the counter towards him and promptly replied: "Thanks for the lousy service you provided!"
And to be honest, a lot of customers were already curious as to why is there a shouting match at the cashier counter while they were enjoying their meal served rudely and lousily to them. At least, the Mos Burger at Bukit Panjang Plaza is a little better..
I had a terrifying experience at Zouk once. They had an Xbox event a couple of years back and my colleague had tixs, so a total of 4 of us went together. The thing that I don't like about Zouk is the steps inside, it's virtually so small you have to walk on tiptoe to get up and down. What made it even more terrifying is the fact that there were so many people crowding and posing on the steps that we had to make our way down without any handrail to guide us. And the worst part? I nearly slipped down the stairs and fell if my friends haven't grabbed hold of me in time. Music and crowd wise, it's good, brains and etiquette wise for the patrons, I'm giving it a thumbs down for the slip on the stairs!!
I didn't know Popeye existed initially despite having worked at Changi Airport before. It was partly due to my staffs who were going crazy over their mashed potatoes and before long, I took the plunge and try it for myself. I mean, if it doesn't taste that good, I won't go back anymore. And seriously, I have to slap myself for saying that comment. Their chicken is superb, dare I say better than KFC. Their mashed potato isn't simply just mashed potato only, there's something more inside that makes them yummylicious, compared to KFC. And who can forget the fries? Absolutely perfect!! And soon before long, I found myself drawing from the ATM on a too-regular basis just to satisfy my cravings from Popeye's!! In my opinion, we should petition for Popeye to take over KFC in all the major and minor shopping centres in Singapore as KFC's standard has drastically dropped over the years.
I bought chicken pies from Polar a couple of times and I dare to say that their pies are excellent. Even after leaving their chicken pie overnight doesn't change the taste or quality at all and I would seriously recommend it to anyone and everyone who like pies, especially chicken pies. To be brtually honest, I don't mind having chicken pie for my meals every day..
In fact, I even signed up for a membership card to show my "loyalty". It does look a little blur, as I don't want my name to be shown. Shy lar...
I usually go to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf @ Takashimaya if I don't feel like drinking a cup of traditional kopi. But the last time I went there, the service is totally horrendou, not to mention the worst I have experienced in my life. Let me share my experience: I went to Coffee Bean (Taka) after work and decided to order a cup of Vanilla Latte to be taken out. The manager who served me greeted me without any sincerity at all, almost as if I had came up at the wrong time and prevented her from talking/gossiping to her staff. Anyway, I placed my order and the manager repeated my order before keying it in and taking the money from me. When when my vanilla latte was finally done, I took a sip and realised that it was just plain normal unflavoured latte. I enquired with the staff that I had placed an order for a vanilla latte. The staff asked for my receipt very politely and told me that I had placed an order of latte instead of vanilla latte according to what was printed on the receipt I was holding. I insisted that I placed an order for vanilla latte and that her manager had actually repeated my order before keying in my order. And guess what happen next? The manager pretended to look blur and confused like as if she didn't know what was happening while the staff kept apologising to me. In this case, isn't the manager supposed to offer an apology instead? I was so angry and disappointed with such bo-chap service that I am never going to step foot into another Coffee Bean & Tree Leaf outlet ever and up till now, I still haven't stepped into any another Coffee Bean franchise outlet at all. Lousy service is best experienced once and only once. Besides, Coffee Bean is not the only cafe in Singapore to serve espresso drinks!!
I remember going to Ya Kun at Takashimaya and seriously, I am a coffee addict by nature. So imagine my surprise when my special order of kopi di lo (coffee straight, no water added) actually taste like coffee. How should I put it? If you are a true coffee drinker, you can tell by the taste of the coffee whether any water has been added to it or not. Wang Jiao on the other hand SUCK BALLS! It's as if the older folk pretended not to understand kopi lingo when I ordered my coffee from them. Ya Kun is definitely my choice when it comes to coffee!!
Basically, it doesn't really matter which branch you go to. It's more like how early should you go to beat the crowd. Anticipate the lunch crowd by going in the morning or if time permits, go before dinner time. In this way, when you are done eating peacefully, you won't be caught in the craze to find a seat at all. I always go early in the morning, as early as I can, to beat the crowds. I mean, who wants to seat beside so many strangers hovering over you even though you had barely just bought your food?
