    Thanks to the food hunters! We managed to have our Christmas dinner at this hidden place. I think I've heard about it before but never really thought of trying it. But no regret after I tried it.

    When we arrived, the place was empty with only one table filled. But as the night comes, the place gets very packed with hungry families and friends.

    The choice of food is pretty decent, and they're fresh. Agree that the beef was fantastic! We should have ordered more of it! Love the mini custard bao which needs exactly 2mins in the boiling steamboat to cook/ heat it.

    Their choice of cooked food though little, but they are of good quality too imo. Love the lemongrass chicken, fried chicken wing, sotong you tiao and cucumbers!

    The service staff were helpful too. When the table couldn't put that huge number of plates we ordered, they helped us "throw" all the food into our steamboats too.

    And do you know who owns this place? Its Terrence Cao the TCS actor.

    Nice place for gatherings and hungry souls.

    *No photos caused everyone was hungry and too lazy to take out our cameras! LOL!

    My girlfriends and I had the chance to visit Ma Maison on a Wednesday evening. Thinking that it's a weekday evening and that we were there at 8pm, there would be less people. Boy, were we wrong... There was a queue snaking out of the restaurant. We waited for 30 minutes before we were shown a seat. Very popular place indeed. We ordered and settled to take photographs while waiting for our food. We noticed that there were a few tables with Jap patrons and that's usually a sign that there's good Jap food in existence.

    My apologies for not being able to provide the actual name of the dish as I was too excited and forgot to take a photo of the menu.

    The food we ordered
    Escargots:
    This is done with garlic. It was delicious! Served up warm, it was very fragrant and they were good to provide all the right utensils for extracting the flesh.

    Hamburger Steak
    The meat was well minced and packed in a patty. It is served with an egg and some potato, doused in brown sauce. Even the waitress said "brown sauce" So I have no idea what sauce it is actually. Even though I'm not really one for meat, I did like this one as the meat was minced and easy on the stomach.

    Gratin with Prawn and Scallops

    I love this potato and cheese combination. There weren't many prawns and scallops though.. I think there was a grand total of two each. But this is one dish you have to share with friends. One person can't finish the whole plate.

    Pork Cutlet
    This is served with two sauces and mineral salt. The waitress explained what we should do with the sauces but when she left, all four of us were still baffled because we couldn't understand what she said. Well in the end, we did it the Singaporean way - Rojak style. We put all the sauces into the little dish she gave us and just dipped our pork pieces into it. The cutlet was a little on the tough side, a little too difficult to chew. The meat inside didn't have any taste and the crisp outside was a little bland too. The potato it was served with was nice though.

    Cuttlefish Ink Spaghetti
    I was a little taken aback by how black the spaghetti came. But all my companions swore by this dish so I tried it. It was yummy! Just good on its own. My only grievance is that it is a little on the dry side but I will definitely order this dish again.

    Apple Pie with Ice Cream
    The apple filling was suitably sweet but the crust was a little too dry and had a very starchy taste to it which I couldn't bear to eat. We finished up most of the pie leaving the crust behind.

    Brownie with Ice Cream

    We all loved the brownie. Me being a dessert lover, I'd say this is one of the better brownies I've had. It's not too dry nor moist and has just enough chocolate flavour so that one will not be sick of the taste before finishing.

    Goma Ice Cream (Sesame)
    This is my first go at such a flavour and I'd have to say it has a special taste to it. The ice cream left a strong aftertaste in my mouth. It wasn't sweet but did have a very strong taste of sesame. Quite enjoyable I guess.

    The four of us spent $87 in all which I'd say is pretty reasonable.

    On 05 December 2008 at 7:11pm (the EZ Link machine stated 8:11:55HRS), I boarded TIBS Bus Number 861P. And upon finding a seat, the bus captain immediately stood up, turned around and stared at me accusingly. He then next pointed at me without saying a single word and immediately pointed back to the EZ Link machine repeatedly. And for the entire journey, I was really angry at being embarrassed and humiliated in this manner and the bus captain didn’t offer an apology upon knowing that I had tapped my card and duly paid my fares like everyone else. Although throughout the trip, I had considered asking for his name to lodge a formal complaint, I decided not to do so and decided to ask him directly what was going on.

    I understand that bus captains have their duties at hand, whether is it in checking and making sure that passengers paid their fares or if their passengers moved to the back of the bus to allow other boarding passengers to board and things like that. But what happened next really left me feeling disgusted with this bus captain’s attitude and aggressive behavior towards me.

    Just before I reached my intended stop, I went up to him and ask what exactly was going on and he simply feigned ignorance. When I questioned him on why did he have to humiliate and embarrass me in front of so many passengers even though I paid my fare, he started to raise his voice at me and claimed that he never humiliate me at all. So I explained to him that he just pointed at me accusingly and at the EZ Link machine and he claimed that he asked me nicely to tap my EZ link card for verification.

    And he next taunted me by saying that I can lodged a complaint against him if I feel like it and further said that I was being aggressive and he would report me to the police even though he raised his voice at me first. Of course I was angry and raised my voice back at him. He kept raising his voice, taunting me and still embarrassing and humiliating me by saying that I was aggressive even though he was the one who raised his voice throughout the conversation until I got off the bus.

    May I enquire if your bus captains were trained to embarrassed, humiliated, taunt and be aggressive towards passengers who paid their fares duly and without a word of apology? Or is the bus captain very confident that I won’t have the courage to lodge a formal complaint and hence decided to taunt, humiliate and embarrass me?

    This incident have traumatized me and give me the impression that bus captains can have their way as and when they decide to and I am waiting for an explanation and apology from the bus captain who was involved in this dispute.

    34. Peranakan Museum

    With the latest TV drama on Channel 8, I'm sure there'll be an increase of interest among Singaporeans to want to learn more about the Peranakan culture. If you still do not know about it, there's a Peranakan Museum in Singapore!

    I visited the museum awhile back and I'm impressed with the collection and details that the curators present at the museum. There's a total of 10 galleries housed within the 3-storey building.

    You can learn about the origin, the 12-day wedding, the nonya, their religion and their life in public. With the world’s finest and most comprehensive collection of Peranakan artefacts, you'll sure be spending hours in there exploring and experiencing the Peranakan way of living.

    If you're glued to the television set daily watching the drama show, you might want to go check out the museum too. I would recommend joining a guided tour if there's any. This is the best way to learn more about museum.

    After hearing much about the famous Ayam Penyet at Lucky Plaza, finally I went to try it. And there are so many version of Ayam Penyet within the building. I hope I didn't go to the wrong one.

    From the photo, you can see the crispiness of the ayam (chicken). The serving size is pretty big and the rice is fragrant too. But for me, having ayam penyet, the most important ingredient is the chili! The more the merrier!

    And with just this one plate of Ayam Penyet, and some beef balls, I finished 4 portions of their powerful chili!! I was sweating and feeling the tummy spinning, but I just couldn't stop! I love their chili!

    There are so many new eateries at Downtown East E!hub, we were spoiled for choice. On our way to the toilet on the second floor, we saw an interesting shop selling colorful noodles! Yes! There were green, yellow, orange, and brownish looking ones. And there's also green and golden dumplings. And best of all, it's Halal certified. So we decided to give it a try.

    The place is very small and has cafeterias kind of tables and chairs. The menu is whatever you see on the big signboard. I can't recall the name of the dishes, and since there wasn't any website to go to for details, I'll refer my review with the photos posted.

    I ordered a type of laksa that cames with orange looking noodles. The laksa stock was quite tasty and the noodles was pretty alright. I still prefer laksa with thick bee hoon thou. The noodle tasted like the ban mian kind of you mian. And I couldn't really figure out if there should be a unique taste to the noodles since the laksa stock has covered up all other tastes that's supposed to be there.

    My partner ordered a mee goreng like noodle that came with diced crab stick and 2 pieces of halved hotdog at the side. Noodle was alright but not as tasty as he hoped. A suggestion to the owner (if they ever get to read this) is to slice their hotdogs too for this noodle. At least it looks better and perhaps might help make it more appertising too.

    The twin color dumplings were pretty good. With so much taste from the laksa and mee goreng, we couldn't quite figure out what was in these dumplings. Perhaps fish meat or something.

    Later we realised this shop's main business is the distribution of their innovative noodles. You can buy them home and prepare it your own way.

    Oh! And there's also the complimentary tidbits. Looks like fried crispy flat noodles. But we both agreed that this tasted the best. If I'm not wrong, they're also selling these in packets which is like 50cent or $2 only. Great as snacks while coaching in with a good movie.

    Great place for chilling out with a group of friends. Comfortably priced alcohol for all. Local uni students get 30% off listed price too! (How I wish I was still a student lah!)

    Have been to ICB several occasions for gatherings with friends. Located in the center of Singapore, its easily accessible for people staying anywhere. This place serves over 38 types of bottled beers, and also martinis, spirits and sodas. Happy hours from 11am to 9pm daily and all day long on Sundays!

    If you're planning to go there for decent meal, you can forget it. But if you just need something to bite, I'll recommend going for the beef wrap ($6) and big bowl of popcorn ($5). Works all the time for me with these and beer! (Avoid the hotdog bun, go for the beef wrap. Trust me! It's more worth it!)

    There's also a pool table to play and every Thursday night, there's also free wii games!

    Oh! And if you're sitting along the stretch of seats with pillows and red back rest, please sit with care k! The seats are NOT soft and the entire sit may just pop up at the side if one sits too fast at the edge of it. Don't say i didn't warn you ah!

    Yebbers! Anyone wants to go party on a Thursday at ICB?

    Once and never going to return

    This is one of the latest fast food outlet at Compass Point. When it first opened, the crowd was overflowing. The queue is super long and there'll never be any tables available. Everyone is curious when new things arrived. But after the initial fanfare, things just seem to slow down. And now I know the reason why!

    Like the rest of the curious customers, I gave Curry San a go. Although the smell of Japanese Curry filling the outlet was overpowering, we thought it should probably be worth while to give it a try.

    Ordered Curry Chicken Katsu - $6.80 (which was recommended as their best seller) and Ebiko Cream Fried Shrimp - $7.90. When the food came, both of us lost our appetite. If we had not pay for the food, we'll probably kick a big fuss and walk away.

    Curry Chicken Katsu came burned. The fried chicken was tough and tasteless. The rice was overcooked and was too mushy. The curry was no way near tasty too. Very sad! Even the two little girls (around 4-5 yrs old) sitting next to us commented that its not nice!

    When I thought mine was bad, the Ebiko Cream Fried Shrimp was worst! Diluted cream sauce with plain looking pasta, few seeds of sesame and sad looking fried shrimp. I could see the total disappointment in his eyes. One word to describe this dish - tasteless.

    I wonder if the boss themselves are tasting what they're serving. Too much improvements need to be made. Unless there's a new crowd forming again at Curry San (because of great improvement to the menu), I'll not be stepping into it anymore.

    Momoteapots has been around for a bit and has quite a large following. I chanced upon it a couple of months ago and have been drooling over their pretty clothes.

    What I like about this blogshop is how they maintain being polite. Even when they talked about fraud in their site, they didn't sound unnecessarily angry and explained their reasons for requesting for receipts from customers. They even apologised for the inconvenience caused, which is great!

    The prices are very reasonable. Not only that... the photographs they take are good and they try to show the clothing in all angles which is what I love most. Somehow some other shops when trying to make the clothes look nice, they forget to show you what the back looks like. But Momoteapots always shows the best they can which I think it really commendable.

    They have a wide range of clothing, needless to say I'm not a fan of ALL their clothes because they have to cater to different tastes but I do like quite a number of stuff they have. They mostly have dresses (which are easier to buy online anyway) and sometimes bags and belts.

    They even maintain a facebook account to keep in touch with their customers!

    My only grievance is that I wish they would update more often!!!! But then I would spend money much more often toooo haha :)

    Celebrated my grandma's birthday at Jumbo over the weekend. As usual, the place is packed up and down, outside and inside!

    Having read the reviews on other Jumbo outlets, I had all the dishes I want to order prepared prior to the dinner. And thank goodness the dishes didn't disappoint. Except for one - the black pepper crab.

    The crabs were all very fresh and juicy. We were given the bigger ones since we had 16 at the table. Ordered Chili Crabs and the black pepper crab. Chili Crab was fabulous - gravy was tasty, not too sweet nor too spicy. Just nice and goes very well with the fried mini man tou. However the black pepper crab was too saltish. Not too most for our liking.

    Other dishes ordered include...
    Scallop yam rings - very yummy!
    Crispy baby squid - crispy and nice
    Abalone, sea-cucumber and mushroom with broccoli
    Cereal prawn - love the cereal! fresh prawns!
    Salted egg prawn - it was gone before I could taste it!
    Steam fish - at $110 the fish was very fresh and juicy
    Shredded chicken ee-mee
    Honeydew Sago dessert

    Overall the food was good and the serving size was just enough for 16 of us. The service could have been better. Being seated at the corner on the upper level, with an almost dying air-con and a bright orange light, it was a little warm through the dinner.

    Total bill came up to about $650, with 10% discount off from the Jumbo card, we paid slightly more than $580 for the dinner. Price wise is reasonable.

    No photo/video for this because everyone was hungry and the lighting was really very bad for photography. Must remember to ask for a white-light lighted table the next time.
