After hearing so much about threadless, I've been wanting to get my hands on one! But was relunctant at first as I wasn't sure of the sizes I should get. But when I heard about the sale that was on a month ago, I quickly placed my order to test the sizes out!
As I only know about the sales on the very last day, in the very last few hours, I had to rush my purchase. Quickly went through the Size chart and took out my favorite tshirt to measure the sizes. By the time I was done, many of the designs I wanted were already sold out!!
Managed to place my order for 2 of the designs and paid for the express delivery service. In less than 2 weeks, I got my threadless in my mailbox!
I wore them both already and I'm loving it! The material is soft but not sloppish-type. Great for the humid weather here in Singapore!
If you've not tried threadless tee, you better do so soon!
I literally watched this place renovate and prepare for opening. I looked forward to it as it seemed to offer more reasonable prices and was much nearer to my place than the coffeeshop.
The day it opened, I walked past pretty late and was dying to get some desserts. My sister and I stood there for a bit waiting. We didn't know if they had takeaways and wanted to ask if they had Yam Paste. They have some tubs of paste that looked like Yam paste on the counter but it wasn't available in the menu.
We waited and waited. 2 servers and 2 ladies whom we figured were the bosses looked at us in the eye but didn't say anything. They stood in front of us and instructed something to the counter people without acknowledging our presence... After a full 10 minutes of standing there, we went home without our desserts. We were really patient weren't we?
A few days after, my father suggested for us to go eat there. Thinking that they were just overly busy that first day I agreed. We were greeted as we approached the cafe and seated quickly. They gave us the menus which were strangely worn.
Food Ordered:
Chicken Rice Set B (Steamed) - $5.50 This set came with soup and a reasonable serving of vegetables. Chicken Rice happens to be "main dish" of this cafe. Most of the people I saw ordered at least a set. The meat was not too fatty and the rice was just slightly fragant and not too salty. The vegetables (thankfully) were not overcooked. I'd agree with my dad that there was slightly more rice than the usual at coffeeshops.
Thai Style Chicken Cutlet Rice - $5
I liked this one more than the chicken rice. The sauce was tangy and spicy. The Chicken Cutlet was very crisp. The rice was plain white rice but the sauce was flavourful enough for me.
Marmite Pork Ribs - $10
This one was surprisingly disappointing. The ribs were really small and there were about 5-6 pieces only. Mighty expensive if I had to say. Maybe I'm feeling a little disappointed because I just came back from Wuxi and the infamous dish there is Pork Ribs.... Tastewise it's alright with enough fatty bits. The sauce was pretty tasty but I still find it expensive. Moreover its presentation wasn't nice at all.
With no GST/service charge, the total came up to $20.50 for 3 people. Foodwise it is better than your regular coffeeshops. And in terms of pricing, it's pretty competitive in comparison to the food outlets in this area, esp the air-conditioned ones. Judging from the business it's been getting, I'd say this is here to stay... :)
This blogstore is one I chanced upon while surfing around one day. The owners also have another called Black Sequin which sells clothing at reasonable prices.
They sell a special product from Japan and I was really curious when I went to see the website. The website had plenty of information like the ingredients of the product, a FAQ and it is very easy to read and navigate around.
Despite all the information, Kiasu Me still emailed them to find out more and their replies were friendly and prompt. They also reply via MSN and their chatbox so it's really good. I also like how they constantly update their customers regarding the status of the orders.
I have yet to receive my items (as the spree has not closed) but I'm already very satisfied with how they have lived up to their motto of *Service comes first*
Basically, I have no complaints about Starbucks. Their staffs are always friendly, compared to the lousy services I got elsewhere. To them, they treat their customers like proper customers and also good friends. So, going to Starbucks is always a definite pleasure from me as I always get a smile from them, regardless of gender, race, religion. My only grouse? If you check out the link of Starucks I've posted above, the site says that the Starbucks store (on the 2nd level) is supposed to be opened for business at 0730hrs every day, no matter rain or shine, normal days or pulic holidays. But lately, for the past few weeks (close to a month), their store is only opened for business after 0830hrs. Either the manager/store-in-charge cannot wake up on time or that their pay does not enable them to buy watches for themselves. Sometimes when I work in the morning shift and I crave for a cuppa, only to realise that their shop is still not opened despite reaching there at 0845hrs....
So, if you plan to grab a cuppa in the morning, please think twice. It is best to go to Starbucks Vivo (2nd level) only after 0930hrs when they are really "opened" for business. Alternatively, you might be better off if you go to Pacific Coffee instead as they are always opened at 0730 or 0800 sharp.
P/S: This photo was snapped at 0855 when they are "opened" for business. I was already hanging around there from 0830 onwards and they weren't opened yet...
For starters, I never bought a single item from this shop. Want to know the reason why? The staff(s) are really bo-chap and whenever I have some movie enquiries, they give me half hearted answers and expect me to be satisfied with whatever they say. Recently, I went over to see if they are still selling Bleach VCD Season 1, mind you I don't mind if they have the ODEX version or whether it was released by any other companies whatsoever. Anyway, they don't have it and whatever they have, it's for rental only. So I enquired at the cashier counter if they sell Anime VCDs instead of renting it out and they simply replied "No!". They didn't even recommend me to try their other branches or whatsoever and simply proceed to serve another customer.
Then prior to this incident, about last year, I heard that they might be bringing in the Special Edition of FFVII: Advent Children and enquired once again if they have stocks for it. Once again, the answer was just simply "No!" and they didn't even bother to explain why they don't have stocks. Is it because they were sold out fast or stocks haven't arrived yet, I am not sure. And right after telling me "No!", the girl who answered my enquiry simply went back to doing her work while I was standing in front of the cashier counter looking like an idiot for a full 5 minutes while still anticipating that maye she was checking to see if stocks were available. Basically, whatever I needed or wanted to buy, they don't have to stocks for it and they simply don't bother to find out more from me at all.
It is a rather disappointing experience again and again with their bo-chap-ness. Now, I simply went in to see if stocks for any movies that I wanted (new titles) are in before I make my way to TS Group that is currently located on the 3rd level which is right beside Streets Café Restaurant.
This place is very much hidden, but I’m glad I managed to find them through Yebber.
There were 2 other customers when I reached. I sat down and was immediately served by Tim. We discussed about the type of haircut I want and he gave his suggestions and views.
Overall I like the service and the final look managed to “WOW” me. Tim gives very good head massage too! If you’re tired and needs a little boost in the head, you can pop by just for wash and blow service. It’s well worth it! I will be going back in a month or two to cover up the highlighted part and chop off more hair!
After getting cuts from female stylist all this while, its refreshing to get my hair done by a male stylist. And in fact, I find the guys more careful and he pays more attention to little details when cutting, washing and styling. Surely a plus for this!
During my 3 hours at Flhair Salon, I saw many other customers coming in with either messy hair or hair that’s way too long for their look. But they all left with great hair and better look! Being guy stylists themselves, they sure know what’s in and best suitable for the men. Many customers that came today were guys too.
They’re having a 20% discount now! (Till when I’m not sure. Can call them to check it out ya.)
Just some background before I begin.. I have ever been to Aston's when it was still in the coffeeshop. I've ever witnessed two mains plus all the sides feeding a family of five with 3 young children. Two mains would stuff me and my friend and there would be leftovers, so you can imagine how large the servings were. The food was also much better than your average western food stall. It was comparable to that of a restaurant. That time I remember that 2 mains would cost less than $20.
Having been to the previous establishment and seeing all the wonderful reviews here (needless to say) gave me great expectations as I walked into the place. It was close to 5pm and there wasn't the usual queue in front of the place. We stood at the *Please wait to be seated* sign. There were two servers just 1 metre away directly in front of us and it still took 4-5 minutes for them to come over as they were finishing their little joke before they did.
We were seated in a booth and there was only one other table occupied then. We checked out the menu and soon decided what we wanted.
I was unhappy when we ordered as the server didn't seem very sure when we asked if the items could be placed separately. We also repeated the sides a number of times as he kept repeating it back to us wrongly. My friend ordered an Iced Latte and the server said ok. But 5 minutes later when my coke arrived, another server told us that they don't serve Iced Lattes but only the hot ones. Urgh
Food ordered: Sirloin Steak (Medium - Well Done) The steak came as per ordered. But it wasn't very tasty. The meat didn't have much taste on its own and there wasn't much sauce too. My friend commented that it had a little too much fatty bits for her liking.
Grilled fish This was tasteless actually. One good thing was that it didn't have any fishy smell to it. If I didn't have my trusty ketchup I don't think I would have been able to finish this. And... we raised our hands trying to get their attention for ketchup but no one noticed us. (Reminder: it was quite empty then) So we got up, searched for it and got it for ourselves.
Fries I'd thought these would be the fat fries... well these were neither fat nor thin. but a little too salty though. I read that there was some spice on others' fries but there wasn't any on mine... mmm
BBQ beans It tasted exactly like baked beans from the Heinz can. We felt cheated.
Steamed Vegetables These were alright I guess but what could go wrong with steamed vegetables?
For some reason I can't remember what the last side order is. We, two girls, managed to clean out our plates so I can't say very much for the servings, can I?
Anyway the bill came up to $27 for two mains and three drinks. It IS cheap if you consider that it's western food served in a respectable looking restaurant. But the food is really average and service was pretty poor considering there weren't many people. I'm just glad I didn't have to queue to try. At least I know I won't ever have to.
I, a fan of desserts and Yami Yoghurt, was more than excited when we walked past Yoguru. The prices are all in Feizhu's review and they seem right. So you can refer to that.
I was a teeny bit sad when there were only two flavours to choose from. But the lady at the counter mentioned that Original flavour was a little sweeter whereas the YoguBliss one was more sourish so I picked Original.
There were about 14 toppings to choose from and I took some time with that. So maybe the lack of flavours is a blessing in disguise.I picked out Oreo Crumbs and Cornflakes for $1.80. I think that it was a nice combination in terms of taste as it adds texture to the yoghurt.
But it was quite messy to eat as the cup overflowed. If you pick one topping it was ok, but two toppings was a little too much and you would risk having it all over yourself when you were done.
I'd have to agree that Yoguru is sweeter and softer than Yami (although I don't find Yami TOO sourish) and I like how Yoguru is fatfree too. But it really is quite expensive. A regular cup of Yami one topping is $3.75. But I paid $5.10 for my yoguru with two toppings. Note that the price diff between one topping and two isn't very much.
I would give it 3 and a half stars really... take away half for being more expensive for a slightly smaller serving.
Mind you, in my job we tend to get lots of backaches and stiff necks so a massage once in a while is absolutely necessary. Thank goodness I have some of these nearby. Don't be fooled by places of similiar names! This is one of the early ones boasting of traditional Javanese massage from ages ago.
I like to get the full body massage Ginger treatment. After a good massage the therapist would cover my body with ginger bits. I'd feel very very very hot and sometimes it even stings. I'd be covered with towels like a wrap, and it will be kept like that for 15-20 minutes. Trust me, it can be quite torturous... But after that your skin will be silky smooth. I have very sensitive skin and my skin was a wreck after my trip to China. It was covered with rash and dried bits all over but after the GInger treatment it was obviously much better! I think with another treatment next week it'll totally clear. Not only that my tummy will seem flatter after the treatment.
The staff is always polite and they don't make you feel uncomfortable. Also I've yet to meet anyone unskilled there. The prices start from $40 for non-members. Lifetime Membership is $150 and is transferable... Members can also sign two guests in and the guests are entitled to the same discounts.
My mum has never tried pedicure before, hence I decided to bring her for a pedicure session on Mother's day. I've passed by Scratch many times and always wanted to try their service. Called them few days before mother's day and managed to get an appointment set for Mum and myself in the evening of Mother's day.
The salon is very big and spacious. Brightly lighted by the natural light coming from outside. The place is kept clean and to the minimum. And the furnitures used are from Ikea. Another thing that's close to my heart.
The lady who attended to me is very outspoken and friendly. She's the supervisor of the place. If I'm not wrong, her name is Claire. She's very detail during the pedicure process. And she'll share tips on keeping our feet nice and healthy. The entire process was enjoyable and filled with giggles and laughter. She sure knows how to make her customers happy. And the final outcome of my feet was smooth and the nail coating on my toes were perfectly flawless! It looks like a new coat even after more than 2 weeks!
As it was Mum's first time doing a pedicure after more than 40yrs. And with her daily standing and soaking of feet in water, her feet has always been hard, peeling and dry. She has got very bad cracks on her leg too. After the pedicure and a spa wrap (in white chocolate!!), her feet is as smooth as baby's feet! She loved it so much, she couldn't stop feeling and touching her own feet after the session!
We were both very satisfied with their service and has signed up for their 6-sessions of pedicure. Looking forward to going back again soon.
