    I had my first Brazilian Wax today! Yes I was a Brazilian Virgin at Strip @ Raffles. I was really apprehensive at first.. I mean who wouldn't be when someone's staring at your nether regions.

    They have two sorts : The Soft Wax and the Hard Wax (if I didn't hear her wrongly)

    I chose the Hard Wax. It's slightly warm when smoothed onto the skin and hardens after a while. Then the lady will pull the hard wax off with all the hairs in it. She did it a few times and TADA it was pretty clean! Then she used the soft wax (cloth) to take the finer ones out and finally she tweezed the hard to reach places. It was all done in 15 minutes. Great speed and she was very professional, giving me some warning when it's off places that will hurt and asking me to breathe normally. She was all smiles and so were the other people in the place!!

    It cost me $60 for that session. If you picked soft wax it would be $46. I signed for the $380 package which has $480 credit to begin with. More waxing for me!! :)

    I was at Vivo for some window shopping and dropped by at Kiehl's which is located near the taxi stand. It's well-known for their quality skincare so I decided to give it a try.

    Once I stepped in, I was greeted with smiles but there wasn't any hounding. The staff stayed at a reasonable distance, ready to help when it is called for. That I did, and Ms. Joey Huang immediately appeared. I told her I was looking for a good moisturizer for people with sensitive skin. She asked some basic questions about my lifestyle and recommended me two types. After advising me on the benefits and differences between the two, she also showed me the different sizes available. What I liked was that she wasn't pushy about asking me to take the biggest bottles and such.

    After paying, she also gave me 4 sachets of samples to try as I had told her that I was apprehensive about buying new products thanks to my sensitive skin. The service provided was definitely good.

    The product I bought:
    Creme de Corps - The Original Rich Nourishing Cream
    250ml for $54
    Its yellow colour made me think that it was very thick at first but it came out watery. Once on the skin, a 20 cent dollop managed to cover quite a bit of area. As my skin is pretty dry, it was absorbed fast and didn't leave any greasy after-feeling. In fact, the area was immediately softer (slightly). I've applied it thrice since and my skin doesn't feel as parched as usual. Thanks to its texture I think this would last me about 1 and a half months which I find reasonable for its price.

    Was at the eat-out session with many other Yebbers! Eden Cafe's a really nice place to go to I must say, just that it seems to be quite inconvenient to get there if you don't drive, and if you drive it's also inconvenient to get a parking lot!

    When you step into Eden, you'll probably feel rather comfortable in the place due to the rather homely interior and soft lightings. Also, feel welcomed by the friendly owner, Clement, who ensures that your experience there be as good as it can be.

    As there were up to 7 dishes (excluding the desserts) and on the whole I thought that all the dishes were unique and creative in terms of taste and appearance.

    Personally, I really liked the Rosemary Rosepetal Garlic Beef and Balsamic Strawberry Beef. Of course, I'm the sort that really likes beef, however these dishes were cooked in a different style which you probably won't taste elsewhere, especially the Strawberry Beef. It's literally cooked with the strawberries and you can taste the sweetness of it in every bite of the juicy beef. Also, the beef is very well cooked and tender despite the fact that thin slices of beef tend to cook faster.

    On top of that, there's the Seedless Grape Chicken in a rock-hard bread. Of course the bread's not meant for you to eat because, like I said, it's rock-hard! You can try.. but it's not that advisable. (I've tried.. haha) But the taste of the chicken was wonderful as it integrated the sweet taste of the grape, just that it would have been better if the chicken wasn't so dry.

    Then there was also the Black Sesame Mushroom Pasta. The pasta is made by the owner himself. I like the texture of the pasta, however as the owner says, this is a dish that you either like it or not at all. For me, I didn't like it actually. The sesame flavour does not appeal to me; I actually found it hard to accept the fusion of oriental and italian flavours.

    Lastly, it was the dessert. My favourite was the Wine Tea Floral Fruit Jellos! It wasn't too sweet and had a tinge of alcohol and fruit taste. A pity it was so tiny! I could have ten at a shot! Haha.. But Clement was so generous as to give us an additional 2 other items for dessert as he was worried we weren't full! How nice of him! :)

    Well basically, this session at Eden was a great experience me. I'm not an adventurous person when it comes to food and so I was actually quite skeptical of what's coming up. However, it was interesting to learn that food can be done in so many different ways, even with flowers (even the flowers can be so interesting in itself)! I would like to go back again, but I will probably be ordering the same things. But for adventurous people, this place is a must-try!

    Looking for a dress for wedding or prom? Looking for something different and that has a low possibility of someone else having? Try Strut!

    I got to know of Strut at the Yebber Fashion Fusion2 and I must say I was super excited! A pity I didn't have any upcoming event to shop for.. The dresses were so beautiful! Dresses at Strut are the-best for special ocassions, but some of them would be good for casual wear too.

    I find that the designs at Strut are rather unique. Girls, that's important right? You don't wanna go to your prom and see another girl in the same dress as you. These dresses are design by a local designer and I find it really impressive!

    However, I do find the dresses a little expensive. Unless I have a particular event to attend, I don't think I'd be shopping for dresses here. They are about 129 and 199 for the around-knee-length dresses and 299 for the super long dresses! Though they're really expensive, I do think that their long dresses are really elegant and short dresses really sweet!

    When the time comes, I'd be searching for my prom dress at Strut!

    Fashion Fusion 2 at Suntec!

    To be honest, I found the place pretty small when I first stepped in. Perhaps it was the impression formed from the empty space on the layout on paper that made me feel that the place was going to be much bigger. I did hear quite a few people complaining that the place was rather small, but as a customer, I actually felt it was good that at least there was ample space to walk! (Ok, other than when people who just enter decide to all stop at the same place to see the same stuff haha.)

    I liked the variety of items that was provided to us. There were shoes, clothes and accessories, and that's basically all a girl needs! (Though I guess it would have attracted more crowd if there were more guys' stuff? Haha. But I think it's a trend or something, that it's always girls' stuff at bazaars like that.) If the items at one shop doesn't appeal to you, you can always go to another! I really liked that I had a few choices even for the same sort of stuff. Plus, I did find that the different price range was good in catering to different people. I noticed that some of the things there were pretty expensive. No doubt it was nice, but I could only browse most of the time. Some things were really expensive for a student who's out shopping on their own with friends, and as I noticed, there were many students who turned up. Fortunately, there were stalls like Dainty Damsels who provided these people with an alternative.

    But one thing I'm definitely grateful for this FF2 is that I did most of my Christmas shopping there! Settled a few items in a day, at a really good price, on top of that, with another 15% discount! FF2 was like an avenue for nice and unique stuff that I could get for my friends without having to worry that it could be too common or something.. (or my friends won't accidentally stubble upon the shop and find out how much their gift costs.)

    On the whole, I did enjoy myself at FF2! And it is definitely an improvement from the first event! In terms of location, I felt that Suntec was a good place because it's rather convenient to go. But I though having it in the room actually reduced the potential of bringing in more people. But at least there was air-con! I think that's good for both vendors and shoppers! :D I can't wait to attend the next Fashion Fusion!! :)

    I am a big fan of toastbox's soft bun. Haa... Vivocity outlet is one of the outlets that I usually would go to. Its location is good, once step out of the underpass, it can been seen. Therefore explains the large crowd as well.

    The price is generally lower than other places.

    I usually will go for the softbun set. They would toast the soft bun unitl it is crispy outside and inside is soft. Together with their kaya, and thick slices of butter. The combination of these 3 things make their soft bun simply heavenly!

    The eggs came intact, so you have to break the eggs on your own. It is kind of fun to do it as well.

    The tea that I usually have comes thick with full of tea and milk flavour.

    They also sell other food like nasi lemak, mee siam, cup cakes etc. They also got a lot of different toast, kaya toast or thick toasts as well.

    The service of the crew is fast and they also clean up fast as well.

    The place always serves a good snack place if I happen to walk pass one.

    Passed this place a few times and always find it packed. So happen to find empty seats so decided to pop in for a drink. It got both outdoor and indoor seats. The indoor seats have serval plush and posh big sofa seats and have to say that they are very comfortable to sit and relax. Have to say that the coffee aroma is very tempting as well.

    They got a huge varity of drinks and I decided to have a nice cup of Hazelnut milk. It turn out to be a pretty good steamed milk I have there. I loved it. Hang out there for a few hours chit chatting before heading home.

    It is a nice place to sit, relax and people watch there, while enjoying their drinks there. If you got the sofa seats, count yourself lucky ok! Hee....

    Sage the restaurant is situated at Robertson Walk. It is a tastefully designed restaurant tucked away in the corner of the 2nd level. Warm cosy lights and soft jazz playing in the background made up a wonderfully romantic ambience. So it was no surprise there were couples enjoying themselves in little corners. There were two other small groups that Friday night. Our group of 10 trotted in happily with our trigger-happy fingers at 8 , ready to attack.

    The food…

    Amuse Bouche (Complimentary)
    A small shotglass of minced pork topped with tomato puree. I’m really not a fan of pork and was very apprehensive when this arrived first. But I was pleasantly surprised. The savoury tasteof the meat combined with the tangy tomatoes certainly prepared my stomach for the dishes to come.

    Scallops
    Seared King Scallops on a salad of homemade squid ink capellini, marinated ocean trout and avruga caviar, braised scallop lips and leek & potato vichyssoise
    First up was the very fresh scallop served with on a creamy soup (potato vichyssoise). The scallop was well-cooked with a slight crisp on the outer layer, while still maintaining its texture inside. The soup that came with it was not too creamy and had many of us grabbing the bread for a good dip.

    Foie Gras
    Pan-seared Duck Foie Gras with pistachio crust and fig compote, Granny Smith apple puree and a dressing of red grape mustard vinegar
    I have to admit. This is my first time and I’m glad it was here at Sage. The crisp on the outside and the lightness of the inside was a great combination of texture. The foie gras practically melted in my mouth and was definitely far from overwhelming. I loved the apple puree too!

    Cod & Bouillabaisse
    Effeuille of Cod and and grey prawns in a seafood bouillabaisse with ratte potatoes and garden vegetables accompanied with rouille on toast
    I was so happy that I picked this dish! (There was Beef and Lamb) It’s because it’s not on Sage’s regular menu and if I didn’t pick it, I wouldn’t have tasted such goodness! The cod just melted in my mouth… and the bouillabaisse tasted just right. I can still imagine the taste.

    Crème Brûlée
    Lavender Crème Brûlée with blood orange sorbet on redcurrant jelly and Navel orange meringue
    When the dessert was served, I was really full and satisfied by the main already and didn’t feel ready to tackle anymore. But the nicely sour sorbet helped a bit. I liked how the jelly and sorbet went together as the jelly was a little bland but gave a different texture to the sourness of the sorbet. I enjoyed the crème brûlée but not the meringue which was too sugary sweet for my liking.

    The damage: $1022 for 10 of us (inclusive of a bottle of wine)
    Individual damage: $96 (I didn’t drink)

    It was expensive, but strangely enough I didn’t feel any heartache. Maybe that’s what great food and good ambience does to people.

    Whee Fashion Fusion @ Suntec! It was held on the 24th and 25th (which is TODAY) in Room 325. I was there as a Vendor (a mini one) and a shopper!

    As a Vendor...
    I knew that there were some grievances that there was little space, however I liked it that way! It's a bazaar! And I think it should certainly look like one. Everyone managed to place their items somehow in the end so there wasn't much problems. There was sufficient space for people to move about, so that was fine too.

    The place is air-conditioned so that's a big plus compared to other places where you'll die in the sweltering heat (like today).

    The location is very good and I'm sure everyone knows where Suntec is. So regulars could drop by easily without getting lost. It's also more convenient for people as they could go for a movie or dinner after hopping by for a short shopping spree. So I think that's a motivating factor for people who know about this event beforehand. Also, at times when business was slower, the staff dashed down to give out flyers so that people who were already in the mall would drop by. That helped a lot. Can you imagine if you were in some warehouse flea market? Where are you going to do last minute publicity stunts? So this was a great location.

    The team also made efforts to put up posters and banners all over to inform people of the event on the 3rd floor.

    I liked how the staff got along with people and are receptive to feedback.

    But I think there should have been two mobile dressing rooms in the shopping area itself. Although it was already cramped, but I think it was a little nerve-wrecking for vendors to let customers take the clothing out of the toilet to try without paying first. (Luckily I didn't sell clothing)


    As a Shopper
    I would love to see MORE vendors! But one good thing was that the items sold were not very similiar. Most of the items were for women, if not all... So that's a plus for me. But I think it would be great if there were things that appealed to men too, so that the male companions wouldn't be tapping their feet or looking at their watches.

    I think the limiting factor could be.. the theme... Fashion Fusion. If it were ... "THE BAZAAR" there could be car-related items or toys to entertain the men. But that's my two cents.

    I liked how many modes of payment were accepted. That really helped some of the customers, so that no one had to walk to find an ATM.


    As a Yebber.. the overall experience...

    IT WAS FUN! I LOVED IT. I was excited the night before and the whole experience really didn't disappoint. Although I didn't make a lot of money but I managed to let people know about my blogshop and I got to know many friendly nice people! In fact, I got so ecstatic, I started posing for pictures all over (which is a first, mind you.) I wouldn't miss the next one for anything.

    Way to go Yebber!

    Had a thing for German food one day so popped down to Werner's Oven for lunch one day. To date, my only experience with German food was the rather good dinner at Magma, which I hoped Werner's Oven could emulate.

    Housed in a small shop along East Coast Road in the Siglap area, Werner's has been featured in various television programs as well as articles touting its authentic and tasty German food. The interior is simple yet homely complete with a bar counter and nice Christmas look a like decorations.

    Fried Camembert - Interestingly, when I first ordered this dish, I had hoped it would be on par with the one I had at Senso some time back. Unfortunately, it wasn't half as good although I have to admit that the cheese was nice and a little molten in the centre while the exterior was deep fried to a crisp. Would have preferred the core to be a little firmer though as it did seem a little too gooey for my liking.

    In all honesty, the calamari was good the first few pieces as the batter tasted like those you would find on onion rings. You might wonder why its only the first few pieces. Well because the batter was way too oily and when eaten with the accompanying Mayonnaise, rendered me nauseous really fast, especially when everything turned cold.

    Fleischkase - German Meatloaf with Sauteed Potatoes and Fried Egg - I shall refrain from complaining, but the Fleischkase was a joke! It really tasted like luncheon meat to me, albeit of a more substantial chunk and less salty variation. For the price, I rather eat luncheon meat!

    Schmorbraten - Beef Pot Roast with Dumpling, Boiled Potatoes - The Schmorbraten's gravy looked and tasted a little too dense but the beef was still acceptable - nice and tasty but a little too chewy. Nothing fantastic though and I probably wouldn't order this again.

    Rote Grutze - Sweet Sour Cherry and Raspberry Sago with Vanilla Sauce - A rather interesting dish and I must admit that I've never tried it before. However, it wasn't as special as I had made it out to be. The sago came submerged under a layer of vanilla sauce and its texture reminded me of jam. So just imagine jam under a layer of creamy tasting sauce. Not something I'll order again as it was a little too weird for me.

    Baked Cream Cheese Cake - I wasn't too impressed with the cheesecake as it wasn't as creamy as I would have liked it to be and the accompanying ice cream tasted like king's ice cream! Decent nevertheless.

    $78 for lunch for 3 pax is really expensive given the quality of food. I would be hard pressed to find a reason to return, rave reviews in the media or not. On a side note, Werner's operates a bakery just next door as well, which sells some really cool German bread.
